This color is perfect as a road running water proof jacket, as many times cars can be somewhat unaware of runners or bikers on the shoulder of the road. For the wt/ there’s no reason not to bring it with your kit. And of course great trail runs as well, my go to rain jacket to date.
imho this gram counting attitude to designing clothing, results in useful features being omitted. The hood here looks a little like the Rab Vital windshell, which suffers from having no cinch cord to tighten it. This is a useful feature which weighs a few grams. This is such a tiny, tiny amount that it wouldn't make the difference to any athletic activity - you could save just as much weight by taking clippers to your hair and shaving it all off, or taking an earring out.
I see where you are coming from but I'm sure rab make another jacket that has all the features so it's just something different
Great video as always Paul and Harry! I really hope they bring the Phantom with a full zip next season, adding a couple grams won't hurt that much imho, it is one of the lightest waterproof jackets out there anyways. It could also serve as a lightweight emergency shell for traveling in spring-summer!
I second the suggestion of a full zip. Much more versatile and the added weight is minimal. Love Rab products!! 🙂
They actually did. It's called the "CInder Phantom" and it's only 8 grams heavier

Slightly different product, but a good one nonetheless.
I think Rab Borealis is more similar to Arcteryx Gamma Sl? This one here is more like Montane Featherlite stuff but looks more breathable.
Try to do trailrunning uphill in the Gamma or to fit in in your running belt🤣
That's a whole different product with a different use case.

Great review as always! I have the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 but I don't want to use it for walking/running because it's too nice to sweat in 😂I love it - just wear it when I'm out to protect me from the elements, it's great to shoving on over a t-shirt even if it's a bit chilly it protects you from the wind. I run quite warm so I'm wondering if I need to get the ultra or the phantom pull on? Looking for something waterproof and lightweight which is easy to clean.
I'd personally go with the Phantom as a super lightweight, packable layer to chuck on in emergencies and the Kinetic Ultra for prolonged use. Harry
How about durability? I think backpack shoulder straps will damage 7D fabric.
It's fine with lightweight running packs but you definitely wouldn't want to use a big trekking bag with it.
