The garden looks spectacular. The colours really pop. I missed your previous house and garden but my goodness I don’t now! Also the new homeowner of your previous house is doing a fab job too so I feel that I get doubly treated. ❤❤❤
I love the Chinese Snowball bush. It’s marginal in my area zone 6 so I planted a different Snowball viburnum. Doesn’t seem to grow as quickly. I also planted several Popcorn viburnum too.
My word! Everything looks just breathtaking! I am in awe that you accomplished this in one year. Bravo, Linda! P.S. You always make me smile, but "I think Leah murdered a Smurf" made me laugh out loud. You are a treasure ❤.
Just put a cut tennis ball over it like they put on the bottom of school chairs. Will keep water and debris out the umbrella tube and the bright color will allow you to see it. Love the garden and you have inspired me so much that my garden will be on our towns garden tour this June as the cottage garden representative. Nervous as heck but with help from your Vlogs , both books which I own and adore, will get me through. All the best from Oakville, Ontario , Canada.
Oh wow ! When’s the tour? , open to public I assume. I am in Burlington and would love to attend ! On my way to Bulow on Monday, my favourite garden centre for spring colour 😊
I Love the flowers on the front yard.😍 I love tulips but have many deers 🚫🦌. They even eat thorny plants. The squirrels also dig too much of my yard but I can deal better w them.
I plant my pansies around Thanksgiving or at least by Christmas. They stay pretty all though out winter and remove them as soon as I can find Pentas for the warmer weather. Here in the Dallas area, they are wintertime plants.
Your front yard tulips are just beautiful!!! When I 1st saw Leah’s hands I thought she had colored eggs & got blue food coloring on them! Thanks for all your tips & tricks Linda! 🌺🌼🌸
This is definitely a “happy” video. It was fun to watch you with the little projects! Leah is adorable and it is exciting to see her learning about plants. Please be careful with your hand, wrist and arm. Rest is best to deal with the inflammation. 💕
You are my garden inspiration Linda! Keep the great videos coming. What you have done with your yard in such a short time is truly amazing. So beautiful! Even my hubs was in awe of the beautiful tulips and colors in your front yard. I really want a Chinese snowball viburnum! You’re amazing Linda!
Hi Linda . My cross stitching and quilting hobby’s almost came to an end because of hand , mostly thumb pain. I have been wearing copper thumb rings for several years and my pain has been null and void after about two weeks. Worth a try and I’ll be buried with my rings on. 👍👍🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Happy Easter, dear Linda. You bring us all so much joy and inspiration here in Canada. Thank you for showing your real self, talented, fallible and kind.
Ohh Linda, how I do adore and appreciate your delightful videos! The roof on your cottage home never ceases to mezmerize me. Whenever I watch one of your videos,I can’t help but think of the story that I wrote for you, when you shrink down teeny tiny😅 Such adventures you would have!
My pansy viola planting habit is to get them in early. I planted them 2 weeks ago and journaled it❤in my Vater Joynal. We had three 20 degree nights and they are fine. Of course I knew they would be. After pansies I wait until May to plant annuals. These will include coleus New Guinea impatiens and begonias. But here in 7 a New York our gardens are displaying forsythia magnolia daffodils hyacinths and hellebore. I try to wear a support glove when pruning and it helps! Your viburnum is so beautiful! Nice to see how far along your garden is at this time of year! We will be getting more rain this week! Happy Easter!!!🐇💐 !!
I always plant my pansies in the fall. So I get several months out of them. Also I planted a Chinese snowball viburnum last year( a small one) and this spring it bloomed with two little blooms. I’m so excited!
What a full video! Thank you for showing off the snowball viburnum. It's glorious. My sister suffered with hand arthritis for a long time. She found a doctor, a surgeon really, who injected the nerve at the base of her thumb. It was such a relief that lasted several months and then they'd repeat the process. It worked great for several years...until it didn't. Last fall, she had hand surgery to replace the tendon/ligament with a cadaver one. Her surgery and physical therapy went so well and with our mild winter, she decided to have her left hand done in February. She's still healing and limited in her movements, but she's so glad she had it done. She cares for her two horses and several cats. She was able to sew a beautiful quilt for her youngest granddaughter who is graduating HS this summer. She made me some lovely pearl earrings (the pearls were from a necklace our dad gave our mom when he was in Japan recovering from getting shot at in Korea. So they're special for a few reasons.) So, despite her crying, "I have no hands!" She manages to get by pretty well. She's tough. I hope you find some relief as she did.
Your gardens are breathtaking! As for planting my pansies and violas, they are winter annuals here. I live in Florida, zone 9b. Mine go in the ground around mid November or early December. They are not available in nurseries and garden centers until the weather cools a bit. They usually last until May when the heat and humidity soar.
The view of the side yard is stunning as is everything. I plant pansies and violas in November (7b DC/Md). Most years they bloom all winter. In the spring I sometimes have to replenish the ones in pots. Usually, take them out early June.
Linda when you were standing at the bottom of your front steps the color of your flowers was just outstanding !! Putting the pansies around the boxwoods looks so sweet ! Enjoyed this video, so full of ideas. Will be looking for the better boxwoods here in sw Pa..
Love the snowball viburnum. I will have to work them into my new landscape. I have Bunny's new book and it is wonderful. Love seeing all your beautiful tulips. Mine will be blooming in April.
Hi Linda I'm just falling in love with your Chinese snowball ! You convinced me to adopt one. Is it Viburnum macrocephalum Happy Fortuna ? Thank you so much 🐞Marie
An idea to protect the umbrella holder when there isn’t an umbrella, remove the bottom of a planter to set over the post. You could create a false bottom to continue to use the planter to make more part of the landscape.
Linda your tulips, pansies and viburnum look stunning! I must pay attention when your ordering for next spring. The later blooming tulips are definitely the way to go!!❤
Beautiful! I can tell, however, that you don’t have deer in your neighborhood. It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen a tulip bloom in my yard. The night before they are about to pop, Bambi and her extended family show up to munch off the buds. They leave the greenery for the rabbits. I’ve tried everything to deter. Nothing seems to work.
I plant pansies in pots in the fall. This keeps them away from the rabbits. I learned the hard way my first year here. I had no idea that they would decimate them, roots and all. They stay beautiful from fall all the way until scorching summer comes.
I do the same thing with my pansies in 7b Northern Virginia. They give me a great show in the fall, semi-hibernate in the winter (while continuing beautiful root growth) and then explode with gorgeous color in the spring. I also can’t help myself, so I add a few more in the spring.
Hi Linda, I was a nurse. I notice you seem very right handed. I suggest you try to use your left hand more often. When you used your mechanical clippers, u still used your right hand. Can u try to use your left when working to give your right a break. The more u use the left the more dexterity u will get. Just a thought. Love your videos! 🌺
I am the same way, using my right hand too much and understand what you are saying. I know your comment was meant for Linda's behalf, but it helps me also. Thank you for the advice.
That is REALLY good advice. My 93 yo mum had a wee stroke -- it's only effect seemed to be: Her right hand closed. She has to carry tissue in that hand to prevent the skin from breaking down. She was SO right-hand-dominant at 90, when that happened, that now she has REAL trouble feeding herself, writing!! Poor thing!! Etc. I asked her to try to use her left hand instead; it was useless to her (at 90). :( Your advice is loving and kind.
😊 beautiful !!! And just by the sneak peaks .... 🌳You my gardening friend, have reached all "the feels" 😊 that your back garden has always offered !!! I am soooo excited for the full view , can not wait !!! 💙💙💙
Here in Colorado, pansies are annuals. Desperate for spring, I have just planted up some containers with pansies. I will be bringing them all in at.night for awhile!
I plant my Pansy and Violas in Fall and they make it through winter not doing much until Feb or March. They are looking glorious right now and I'm giving them all a cut back and food. They last until about June if they have afternoon shade then I put my summer flowers in. I'm in Prescott Valley AZ zone 7
Thank you for thinking of the doggies! Just a thought, when the weather turns warmer, put ice cubes in the water dish. My Mom use to do that for my little dachshund. From that point on, in the warmer weather, even inside the house, I would put ice cubes in all our dog’s water, through the years. I absolutely love the “snowball” bush! ❤️ I’m planting one in my garden this spring!
Hi Linda! UA-cam dropped you off of my feed. I’m so glad you’re back! RE: your viburnum, will you take your cuttings and root them or do you just throw them away? I’m wondering how easily they root. Are they deer resistant? Stuart, you’re always doing such a great job!
Your Snowball Viburnum is fabulous! I purchased one last year and am waiting patiently...I think for a miracle. LOVE everything you have done. One thought might be to consider raising the wreath on the garage door about 12". It just seems too low. Other than that, everything looks absolutely magazine worthy. You are costing me $$$ bc I run to the nursery after each video. What a pleasure!. Happy Easter!
Oh dear,! Golfers elbow, im such a gardner and florist and have it too.. is it the constant digging, pruning, cutting, and lifting ..im feeling your pain,..take care..your garden is worth all the pain..janis
You're quite a beautiful lady Linda and I sure do enjoy your videos. I like learning how to make my container gardening more successful. The street shots of your front are quite picturesque and watching you makes me want to especially plant tulips this fall. I've never planted any and would love to give it a shot in containers. Do you just plant bulbs and if so where do you order from. Don't want to leave out Stewart, love his interaction. Pat Aldridge, North Carolina
Hi everyone! Linda do you worry about staining on your hardware from the planters? I have to use bases or a ring appears on my concrete and/or wood. Thank you! Your friend Kristine 😊
Generally I don't plant pansies but maybe I will in a few weeks. I found the better boxwood on Plants by Mail so I ordered Skylight and ordered five total. I like that gravel. Lowes has black but holy crap it's like $35 for a bag. I guess I'm just going to stick with the kolorscape. Linda I mailed something to you today. You'll love it! And by the way Leah I love your scarf, and Linda you look really nice in that color shirt
Linda, try the Push thumb brace. I have the same issue with my thumbs from cutting hair for 45 yes. Recommended by an orthopedic surgeon. Amazon . It truly took the pain away. Waterproof also.
I took cuttings in the very late fall of my dragon wing begonias, 18 have survived in my house in 4” plastic pots. I hope they harden off ok in May outdoors. 🇨🇦
Maybe some beautiful plant tags with the common name and the horticultural name would be nice on some of those stand out. Plants and Shrubs and people could learn as they walk by and enjoy the beauty beauty.💚
Thanks Linda. But I tell you ,I would just discard the angel wing begonias they are quite tattered and I have no patience lol. Cheers BTW, agapanthus out of stock !!!
Your yard is beautiful! My Chinese viburnum is awesome, too! I love your tulips and would like to know where you buy your tulip bulbs! Your videos are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your beauty of God’s creation! ❤
The garden looks spectacular. The colours really pop. I missed your previous house and garden but my goodness I don’t now! Also the new homeowner of your previous house is doing a fab job too so I feel that I get doubly treated. ❤❤❤
WOW! Your Snowball Viburnum is outstanding! I know how you’ve been waiting for it’s blossoming 🌷🌺
I was anticipating it too. I bought one to replace a dead bush I had. It is just now budding out here in Indiana.
I love the Chinese Snowball bush. It’s marginal in my area zone 6 so I planted a different Snowball viburnum. Doesn’t seem to grow as quickly. I also planted several Popcorn viburnum too.
So sweet to think of the doggies - 🐕 You are one precious neighbor. 🤩
You are just so kind to think about the animals in your neighborhood
Linda is an angel ❤
I love the balance of green and flowers, it’s just going to get better and better. It’s really lovely Linda, well done
SOOO Sweet and thoughtful for you and hubs to think of the dogs! So awesome. The Vaters are the best! ❤️
My word! Everything looks just breathtaking! I am in awe that you accomplished this in one year. Bravo, Linda! P.S. You always make me smile, but "I think Leah murdered a Smurf" made me laugh out loud. You are a treasure ❤.

Woo hoooo!!! The old Linda Vater was back today 🎉. Enjoyed this video so much.
Hubs got a dog bowl....next is his own dog. :) Everything looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing all the hard work.
I Love the flowers on the front yard.😍 I love tulips but have many deers 🚫🦌. They even eat thorny plants. The squirrels also dig too much of my yard but I can deal better w them.
I am so happy to see much more boxwood in the backyard!

Well done Linda. What an achievement your garden is - and achieved so quickly.
I can't wait to get working in my 7 flower beds. We're still in winter here in Ontario. 🇨🇦 We start in May here.Luv your flower beds. ❤
Me too (Quebec)
Love the gravel!
Love the idea of the better boxwood growing in the tutor, perfect.
Your front yard tulips are just beautiful!!! When I 1st saw Leah’s hands I thought she had colored eggs & got blue food coloring on them! Thanks for all your tips & tricks Linda! 🌺🌼🌸
It would be so fun for you to put up a red & white striped umbrella on those summer holiday weekends!

We haven’t had many spring plants yet as it has been so cold. I am so ready to plant early plants!!!❤
Happy Easter, dear Linda. You bring us all so much joy and inspiration here in Canada. Thank you for showing your real self, talented, fallible and kind.

You said that it will look like a small tree, rather than a large plant.
Bravo.

Love the peek of your back patio, it is looking awesome! Also the color of your blouse looks really good on you.
Linda, your yard is beautiful. The tulips and pansies, just gorgeous. I would be driving by your house daily if I lived there. 🩷
Oh my goodness!! It is beautiful !!
Fingers off the trigger until ready to cut… beautiful garden!!! Happy Easter!

🥰👍Love Your Yard! and the Boxwood I will be putting in my yard love the way it looks😊
Hi Linda, love watching your channel. All those branches you cut, you can propagate into new plants.
Great show today! Took alot of notes. Have a wonderful Easter and thank you for all the beauty🌷🌷

In November I plant my pansies in Raleigh NC

I am the same way, using my right hand too much and understand what you are saying. I know your comment was meant for Linda's behalf, but it helps me also. Thank you for the advice.
She was wearing a brace on her left hand because of tendentious. So maybe she is kind of resting it?
The cottage garden is stunning!
I don’t use pansies for the same reason you stated. They don’t last and just become compost. I do however use faux pansies in some pots.😁
That is REALLY good advice. My 93 yo mum had a wee stroke -- it's only effect seemed to be: Her right hand closed.
She has to carry tissue in that hand to prevent the skin from breaking down.

Perhaps a small plant marker for the viburnum would help passers by!
I got a Chinese Snowball Viburnum for my birthday!
Beautiful video thankyou lovely Linda xx ♥️♥️
❤️ the idea of mulching my pots with gravel. Squirrels should not be interested! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Here in Colorado, pansies are annuals. Desperate for spring, I have just planted up some containers with pansies.
I will be bringing them all in at.night for awhile!
So proud to meet you dear man!!!

Your flowers r gorgeous ❤

Try using hand lotion and plenty of it to remove the paint, it usually works for me. Lather up with lotion, wash and repeat.
You're quite a beautiful lady Linda and I sure do enjoy your videos. I like learning how to make my container gardening more successful. Hi everyone! Linda do you worry about staining on your hardware from the planters? I have to use bases or a ring appears on my concrete and/or wood.
Thank you!
Your friend Kristine 😊
We still have snow on the ground!
Same here 😅, the garden centres not even open yet.
Love your hat too❤
Generally I don't plant pansies but maybe I will in a few weeks. I found the better boxwood on Plants by Mail so I ordered Skylight and ordered five total. I like that gravel. Linda, try the Push thumb brace. I have the same issue with my thumbs from cutting hair for 45 yes. Recommended by an orthopedic surgeon. Amazon . It truly took the pain away. Waterproof also.
Love your videos 😄. Would you ever consider planting all the way along on the east side slope?
I took cuttings in the very late fall of my dragon wing begonias, 18 have survived in my house in 4” plastic pots. I hope they harden off ok in May outdoors. 🇨🇦
Maybe some beautiful plant tags with the common name and the horticultural name would be nice on some of those stand out. Plants and Shrubs and people could learn as they walk by and enjoy the beauty beauty.💚
Glad I came across your videos enjoy you so much. Thanks for sharing. Your house and garden are beautiful. Just interested where did you move from
Thanks Linda.
Precious!!!
Gorgeous tulips and snowball viburnum!!! As for spry paint mishaps, better your hands than someone’s car😮
