You know what? Thank goodness for UA-cam because we get to see the real brains behind the gardens! And psst they are the humble moms and homemakers with quiet eyes for design…❤
Does anyone else ever find themselves heading to the local nursery right after watching videos of beautiful gardens like this GORGEOUS one?? I have a long way to go, but these tips are so very helpful.
I love Heather‘s use of pots in the garden! I am inundated with deer and gophers. With pots I can do a “test” and if the deer find the plant enjoyable, I just moved the pot to my second story deck or front porch. It’s obvious why putting plants in pots for gophers makes sense. if I plant, I have to put everything in a cage because even if the gophers don’t eat it, they will undermine the roots. Thank you so much for this tour of Heather’s garden and all of these incredible tips!❤❤
What a stunning garden! And thank you Heather for the 4 c’s! That really helped me grasp cultivating a garden! Loved your tribute to your grandparents and the idea of shopping in your own garden.
Thanks for watching! See more tips and details in the full article with Heather on our website: www.gardengatemagazine.com/articles/garden-design/garden-tours/colorful-flower-borders/
I am in love with this romantic garden. I have many borders myself but always anxious to learn from others. I will indeed incorporate some of your ideas. So very beautiful.
It is beautiful.. I’m trying to get all the the different blooming plants for all the seasons. So you have beauty all year. Thanks for the tour gave me lots of ideas. 😊🌺🌸🌾
Try growing plants from seed. It's way cheaper. I've been growing some perennials from seed it's so satisfying. I'm not that green fingered but love gardening as I find it very calming.
Its a very restless night as i can't sleep. My step son is having brain surgery 8 am tomorrow morning. He lives in CA and im in MN which makes it even harder. I just happened to come across this video. God knew it was a great dose of medicine for the soul. You are an amazing gardener and outstanding commicator explaining everything! I wish you had other videos to share. Such a joy to listen to. Blessings for future gardening.
I'm very touched by your comments. I'm glad that this tour of my garden provided you with solace and connection with beauty at a time when you needed it most. Best wishes for your stepson.
Heather has a gorgeous garden. I found a lot of takeaways from her garden to use in my own garden that I am planning. I have a blank slate to plant. I love her use of containers and grow bags to fill in the gaps. The dahlia grow bag idea is brilliant. Why dig up the tubers to overwinter when you can bring the grow bag inside. The pot in pot idea is great to use for seasonal color like daffodils and tulips in spring to hanging baskets for summer to mums in fall. Brilliant idea.
This is one of my favorite garden gate tours. I am brimming with ides and inspiration. I love the shift on companion planting idea with the seasonal idea. And the ‘GARDEN CLOSET’!!!! Genius!!!!
Heather needs her own UA-cam channel! I would instantly subscribe! I love how she can explain and teach us her style of designing a garden. She's executed her 4 C's beautifully 😍 I can't wait to incorporate her ideas in my narrow side yard. Cheers from CO!
Heather it is truly beautiful - I'm sharing the video link with some of my YT gardening friends. And I love your 4 C's - I do a lot of that but have never codified in quite that way. So helpful!
Gorgeous cottage gardens with a romantic color palette throughout with so many creative and smart design elements. I will be applying your 4 C's to my front garden. It's one thing to learn about bloom-time planting for the three seasons, plus winter interest, but to see it in Helen's garden really brings it to life! I also love the idea of using containers as blooming fillers in the garden and using existing perennials and shrubs to one's advantage to create the cottage feel. I'll be sharing this video with my gardening friends. There's something for everyone from beginner to master gardener!
Wonderful ❤❤❤ great inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing so many useful tips about the gardening! It was such a pleasure to watch this video! WHAT A WONDERFUL WOMAN AND GARDENER YOU ARE !❤
Thanks for watching, Heather is so talented! Be sure to check out more of her tips from her in our web article: www.gardengatemagazine.com/articles/garden-design/garden-tours/colorful-flower-borders/
What an incredible accomplishment! Everything is so lush and beautiful This is my basic color scheme of pinks, blues, purples and whites. Then seasonal dashes and pops of surprise colors. Seeing the before and after of the beds is very inspiring . I do need to learn how to have continuous blooms. I am that amature who goes to the nursery and buys everything blooming in the early spring. In the fall I do plop and play with pumpkins and fall mums, but don't have succession flowers. I need to learn as this is stunning! What a gorgeous , magical space to get lost in. Lots of work, but the romance and ambiance are totally worth it.
Amazing. Love the 4-C's idea. While this video might not be life changing, it will be garden changing. So much good information and ideas. Just lovely. I might have been tempted to keep the tree fort and make it into a she-fort.
Just lovely, so relaxing, and peaceful!!!❤❤ It's one of my favorite videos you have done this year! I am and have been trying to incorporate all kinds of flowers & plants that will flower, providing color at every season in my yard. It certainly is a detailed task worth creating and doing in creating my vision of beauty, giving me more peace in my life away from the world! I just love, love it!!! Thank you, for showing this garden and this wonderful lady!!!!❤❤❤❤😊🥰😉😘 Sincerely, Joy Carey from Winder, Georgia. Zone 7b.😊
Thank you for your 4 C´s. I sreenshotted them to work on in my garden. The c-word I need to learn - well it has a c in it - is patienCe. 😁 Your garden is wonderful! Love from Germany
Wow! Not only a beautiful garden but some truly invaluable tips!! Those 4 Cs … and the space behind the hedge … and even just the idea of using the rambling forsythia to create the hedge in the first place! I have one of those crazy wild forsythias, which I inherited, creates useful height but otherwise I don’t feel in control of it and I’m sure I could do something so much more creative with the space 🤔 So that’s on my mind. And while we all think about moving from season to season, I don’t think we generally come close to the cleverness of this planning. For example, why have I never thought about following on with the exact same colour, so that I can be sure that the combination really works?! So simple but I’ve certainly never been told that or even considered it! My brain is working in overtime right now … I’ve learned so much. I’m definitely going to have to watch it again. I do take screenshots throughout so that I have points of reference to return to (I have ADHD so things go in one ear and then evaporate! They don’t stay long enough to go out the other!! So if I don’t record everything useful I might as well not have ever seen it!) But also the fact that she manages her garden with such clear structure makes it so much simpler. The fact that she has already decided which variants she likes best in each spot means she has predictability … which makes it much easier to think about how to make improvements, say ‘how can I introduce some height?’ or ‘where might I introduce some peach colour?’ And I can also recognise that she communicates every concept so simply and clearly; it means it’s instantly understandable and you’re not still trying to work out what something means while the presentation goes on and you’ve missed other key points. Invaluable stuff ladies - thankyou very much for your generosity in both time and ideas! 👏🏻🪴🪻🌷🌺🌸🌹🌻💖 xxx
Wow, your garden is beautiful Heather. The patience in getting to your vision is an inspiration. I'm thinking specifically about the forsythia hedge, genius! Thanks for sharing your 4 c's which I will definitely incorporate into a large new area we're planting.
This was both inspiring and so useful! Thank you both for the extensive lists and process. There were a few great takeaways for me as a relatively new gardener. Beautiful garden, and great eye and plant management on Heather’s part.
Wow! What a beautiful garden and some fantastic ideas. Particularly when you have certain plants that you love. I love the idea of getting another variety to keep the colour and form going in your garden for longer. Love the container idea, which I use also for dahlias. I grow them in big black plastic pots and pop them in the garden. You can't see the pots. I think I need to do some more though.
Love, Love your ideas!.. I might not be able to take on such a LARGE PROJECT all by myself, but I am inspired and will learn something. Thank you for SHARING! 😊❤
This is great - the color theme and the shape continuity. It really hit me when you mentioned alliums, then nepeta. I am also hooked on the idea of grow bags for dahlias. I am sure it will be easier for me to dig up the tubers in the fall (zone 7). Thank you!

Dahlias have to be lifted in the winter where I garden. By having them in grow bags, the chore is much easier. I can just move them into the garage.
