I just gave my son this system, with the aluminum 4” holder and 3 diamond plates, for his 14th birthday like an hour ago!! Thanks for all of the suggestions Jared!!
Thank you for taking so much time to explain everything in detail. I have zero experience with sharpening but want to get started. I was originally going with the Lansky, but after watching your vids I just ordered the work sharp precision elite, 3dp desk clamp and clamp arm brace, venev 4” greater dog (100/240)(400/800)(800/1200),the 4” stone holder, 4” strop w/ .25 stroppy stuff mono diamond. I’m sure I didn’t need to get the elite since I ordered the Venev greater dogs, but I figured I’d get it just to have a variety. Your videos have really helped me and I can’t wait to start practicing soon. Keep up the great content. Cheers !
Thanks so much for all the attention you are giving this sharpener and all the upgrades available. I ordered all these stones and the stone holder from Gritomatic. Makes this such a capable sharpener now. Thanks!!
I picked up the dog series (smaller stones) I got the f80/f150, f240/f400, f800/f1200. Then used your link for the conditioning stone. Extremely happy with the current set up!
Pretty awesome system. If I didn't already have a kme I'd get this. Thinking about giving this as a gift to a Buddy of mine too go along with his work sharp field sharpener. Great video, love all the extra attention and level of detail you get into.
Its only an issue because of this system, especially the venev stones, they are coming from russia but theres lots of different 4" stones and 4" stones are usually available
Should be pretty straightforward to update those recommendations. That's the awesome thing about consumer level technology now... you can make it just as fast as you can think it.
It looks to be a good system out of the box. The aftermarket attachments seem to make it great! I still have not pulled the trigger on sharpening supplies. I have a strop and I'm so "light duty" on my knives, that's been fine. However, I do need to make a decision. Lol. I'm still leaning freehand, though. Good vid, sir! ✌️
I use the DMT 4 inch stones with a LE holder that I modified a little bit. The stones lay flat and it works really good. The prices are good too. Definitely better than the ones that came from worksharp.
Just got the greater dogs in the mail ended up getting the grammatic attachment as well, looks like it'll work fine but haven't tried it yet. thanks for all the helpful info 🔥
Another great vid! I learn something all the time here thanks! Got me thinking I could possibly make that stabilizer from wood. Definitely a weak point of the system on larger blades or a heavy hand from time to time. Thanks man for getting this out there! Also I definitely agree on the threaded stone holder over time.
Depends on the kind of sharpening you wanna do freehand or fixed angle, if fixed what system. Then how much you trying to spend. My favorites are bonded diamond stones. If not then diamond plates, MAGNACUT likes different edge finishes depending on the heat treatment I go between 600 and 5k typically for finishing stons
Thanks for all the great videos you have really educated me as I’m new to the hobby. I am going to get a precision worksharp for Christmas and was wondering what accessories you would recommend? I’ve seen multiple stone holders on the channel and wondering which one you feel is best and also if there are other accessories you would recommend? Also was wondering what diamond plate or other alternatives you recommend as the venev have been out of stock. Thanks again for any help and I appreciate all the great advice you provide!
@@NeevesKnives you know I will:))) going to by my friend some of the things you’ve recommend for the system too so I’ll hold off. Thanks again for the help
Pro hack: 2 C batteries with some gaffer tape on the top/bottom on each side wedge in almost perfectly, prevent the arm from rocking. Pretty sure most people have a pair of old ones lying around
I'm sold. I think I'll just buy the base kit and then get my own stones because buying the entire kit is the same price as the base model + expansion sold separately so 🤷🏽♂️ may as well
For less than a dollar I got a 3/8 rod coupling and two 3/8 cap bolts about 3/4 inch long to screw in each end of coupling. It works great. I taped the heads of bolts up but that's just a preference.
They're selling some attachments you have to buy to use with the 6-in stone holder supposed to help with the issues having a longer Stone would cause, but I still wouldn't get it. It's just cuz they're sold out of everything else in the 4 inch stones is why people want to know. Thanks a lot Jared 😂✌️
Lol, figures someone would make that eventually. one other thing I wish they could make is a better clamp system when you have a long thin blade using the worksharp precision is a pain.
No not needed, but I definitely appreciate it, it helps with getting a more consistent finish on your edge, I have a new video coming soon on more attachments
@@NeevesKnives Just saw where you’d last replied. Thanks. If you ever want something designed for the sharpening industry, I could help design and produce it.
@@NeevesKnives I watched till the end. My question is that once you start adding on the extras with the worksharp, will you still be spending less than if you bought a KME and started buying extras? If you buy a worksharp system and buy add on or if you buy a KME and buy add ons, will you be in the same price range? Is so then the KME looks like a more solid unit. The whole worksharp thing was that it is a gamechanger because of what it can do for the price.

I bought the Grit-o-Matic (with a nice copper color knob), so far no issues. I find 4 Inch stone availability to be more of an issue atm.

Are those Real Steel aluminum oxide stones decent? I saw them on Blade HQ and was considering trying them.
Yes, 2 were they are good for simple steels, I prefer other stones far better
How about something to hold the knife in the jaws better! I have several knives that will just not stay in the jaws.
Most of those Venve double sided stones are sold out right now. What are your thought on the 4” scorpion series that they offer?
they are great as long as you have a system that can hold a 4" stone
@@NeevesKnives awesome. Thank you!
can you please link those 4 stones you recommended in the video?
Work Sharp announced an upgrade to the Precision adjust with more stones October 1st
Yes im in contact with them to get some on the channel
I looked at getting that kit for mine. I was disappointed that they didn't go a little wider on the stones.
I'm curious what are your thoughts of this vs the rev 2 gritomatic holder? Or even the LE series?
They do the same thing, there benefits and downs to each
Hey, what do you think gritomatic vs new upgrade kit from work sharp?
I'm waiting on the new waiting setup now
@@NeevesKnives any opinion on this question yet? I'm ready to pull the trigger but don't know which way to go yet

I'm sold. I think I'll just buy the base kit and then get my own stones because buying the entire kit is the same price as the base model + expansion sold separately so 🤷🏽♂️ may as well
You can make the “clamp base” with a nut and bolt
I was thinking of doing the same except using a rod coupling and a piece of all thread rod.
For less than a dollar I got a 3/8 rod coupling and two 3/8 cap bolts about 3/4 inch long to screw in each end of coupling. It works great. I taped the heads of bolts up but that's just a preference.

How much is each stone and where do you buy them? 🤔 Q. Also what grit is the ceramic on the worksharp precision adjust? 🤔
3rd but 1st like 👍
Looks like the page is gone from eBay. Any info if it’s been moved somewhere?
Lol, figures someone would make that eventually. one other thing I wish they could make is a better clamp system when you have a long thin blade using the worksharp precision is a pain.
And thicker Blades like some of the CS knives ..
Bigger clamp would be nice for the thicker Blades
I agree
Is there anything I can use for recurved blades?
Yes! Watch my updated video on attachments for this system, there's a great attachment for recurve and it's linked in the description of the video

Is that little blue plastic support that goes under the clamp is that a needed thing

@@NeevesKnives Thank you :)
Would those stones work on KME sharpening system?
Yes as long as your stone holder will take a 4" stone they are originally made for kme

Perfect! Yeah i need to get a new extra extra coarse stone bench and for this system
