Like you said come up with the prop to steady the knife, add an angle cube, add their 3D printed 4” stone attachment to use any stones. It will be a perfect system. This will sell so well anyway, but giving someone the ability to use what they want out of the box will be that much better.
If I hadn't bought a Wicked Edge Go last year I definitely would've bought this sharpener in the upgrade kit. I have a buddy who uses the standard version of this kit and he is shown me some of his edges and they look fantastic for only 50 bucks!!! 😃 I have the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener & still use it on my kitchen knives, it's perfect for that! Work Sharp, you're killing it! Now just release a clamp & diamond plates to supplement the plastic ones you already have, so people have the option! 😃
This system is great! My main gripe with this sharpener is the stones wear out quickly with recurved blades made out of strong steel.. not entirely sure how they'd fix that issue. Maybe spherical grinding stones? That itself presents its own problem though. Easily replaced stones would definitely make the precess much more intuitive.
The stones are easily replaceable, just pop them out and put in a new one. I just bought a 220 grit stone for my original kit, and the strop. It's just an adhesive backing, grab a thin flat head and pry out the old stone
Just bought upgrade kit yesterday. I also bought clamp brace. Love this system by Worksharp. Your videos are very informative and detailed. Still debating on getting the other kits from your other videos (4" stones and holder) for this system, want to try Worksharp's upgrades first. Thanks for the information
Hi , i think this type of sharpening systems are not sharpening a blade on the original angle but on a forced angle and only if the blade is perfectly round with the same radius on the whole lenght of the blade this kind of system will work and i said not this sysytem but all the systems with only a pivot point. If you are not in accord with me, you can make a video to show with the electronic angle meter to show everybody in different spots of the blade it is a different angle and that can damage the blades and messed up your entire angle of the blade because when you haveTHE SAME HEIGHT BUT DIFFERENT DISTANCE, THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND STONE CHANGE, and THATS NOT GOOD FOR THE BLADES. After few sharpening sessions with these kind of systems you will have on a single blade a mutitude of angles that VARY with the shape of the blade, the more curves or chages of a direction of a blade has the more angles you'll have because, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THE DISTANCE AND ANGLES ARE INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL then as one quantity increases, the other decreases.
I really think the precision adjust is a great tool and that at a very good price. I like to recommend it to people that dont feel comfortable doing freehand sharpening. I myself prefere freehand or my wicked edge system. (But my freehand stones and the wicked edge for sure are both much more expensive than the we precision adjust)
It is a neat system for sure, I thought about buying one on sale for $50, but I have a 1x42 wet/dry grinder and if I'm going to set up a Work Sharp I'll set up my water drip and ceramic belts or silicon carbide belts I use for rocks. I mostly do a low grit diamond to form my edges unless it's bad, then to the grinder, but not everyone has one or the skill. I made the drip easy and with a sponge it doesn't throw crap all over with the guard closed. Shoot you know why they don't make all those accessories right? More money selling their stuff. Old as business to try and keep it in house, but there are already OEMs, they'll eventually have to make holders for other stones and what not.
Yeah and i agree they should capitalize where possible thats why i think making the attachment i reccomend would be extremely beneficial to them instead of others making that profit like they will
The precision adjust is a great knife sharpening system. The only complaints I have with it is the thumb screw on the clamp is all plastic including the threads. I've had my precision adjust for about six months and I've already had to replace the clamp twice because the thumb screw stripped out as I was tightening the clamp. My only other complaint is that you can't sharpen smaller knifes because they sit to deep in the clamp.
System is good for small knives. You have to get an attachment so it don't wiggle and change the angle. However, even if you do get the attachment if your blade is big, it will wiggle. I ended up buying the edge pro apex 4. A bit more money but it's way more stable.
Looks like a good addition to the system. I believe the upgrade kit will be $80, and the whole system with the rods will be $120. So that leaves the dilemma of whether to get the base model, a universal stone holder, and some 4 inch stones instead of the upgrade kit or whole "elite" version... Hmmmm. Also, and maybe you've done this before, but can you make a video on the lowest angle you can get on thin knives? I'm thinking the short blade of a SAK would be a good reference point since those are pretty ubiquitous.
@@NeevesKnives On this system. I'm curious about the limitations about the stones hitting the clamp. Although from what I've seen a 20° angle can be achieved in most narrow blades, and I'm not opposed to that as a compromise, I'd be interested in seeing what the limitations are for this system. I'm sure you can put an insane 10 dps on a SAK freehand lol. Not that it would last... Also in regard to my main comment, by "thin" I actually meant narrow, as in from spine to edge, in case that wasn't clear.
Idk what would be the lowest angle you can get but it would be in the 20 range maybe a little higher I chamfered the edge of the clamp and I normally run a 17 degree round about angle on most knives and Iv had very little trouble with what your talking about the stone hitting clamp on a thin blade long as I barley put the blade in the clamp so the most knife possible is left exposed you need a very tiny bite on your knife
The problem I have with these kinds of sharpeners is the blade clamp. It's not always clear-cut getting it straight if you have a blade that has a swedge or a spine that curves or drops. Narrow blades like on the Ultratech, or old-school slip joints are also troublesome. I like my Spyderco sharp maker. It works on everything
I really hope there’s an option to buy it as an actual upgrade kit where it comes the same way it came to you, with the carrying case and extra stones alone.
They have both options to buy just the upgrade kit or to buy what’s called the elite kit which is the worksharp precision plus the upgrade kit. It’s $10 cheaper to buy it all together if you don’t already have the worksharp
I have both, and I like the work sharp more. The Lansky is nice, and I use it for knives with really narrow blades, but the work sharp is nice, because you can get the exact angle you need, without the whole re-profiling of the edge bevel to match one of the pre-determined angles. I can resharpen a blade in about 15 minutes on the worksharp device. I don’t go for mirror polished edges, I go for sharp edges, although the new rods will help in the mirror edge department.
I agree 💯 with echo. Lansky is a great system for most pocket knives but work sharp is easy and reliable. Lansky has slop in each hole that can make your edge vary from sharpening to sharpening also each rod in the lansky has a slight difference causing variance from rod to rod. In it's defense, it is a daily carry in my Jeep it will put an edge on most knives. But the work sharp is faster repeatable and very accurate.
I personally like this system better than the lansky, i do like that the lansky has more stone options but since theres attachments you can get for this system ypur stone options are endless
@@NeevesKnives Thanks! I thought this system might be better for having an integrated stand and the ability to pick specific angles rather than preset ones. I’ve got a 1000/6000 whetstone that I’ve been trying out, but I haven’t gotten the knack yet. I’m practicing with a cheap knife, hoping to put a better edge on my Safe Maker push dagger, after enough practice. It has a modified chisel/hollow grind, and I’m nervous to try without a good guiding system.
Wonder if they’ll come out with a different clamp option that will handle thicker spine knives? I’ve got some folders and fixed blades that won’t work with this system because they’re too thick.
Clamp your knife in the middle of the spine instead of near the finger tab and you might have a better result with the end of the blade. You might have already tried this but was just going to put it out there 👍🏼
I've been thinking about getting one of these looks awesome - one comment about the clamp system: it's probably like apple where they want you in their ecosystem and not buying anything from other companies
@@NeevesKnives yeah but idk if they care that other companies do it. I think their logic could be something like if the competitor lets you put in worksharp stones, it's more business for worksharp cause you bought their stones. If they let you put in someone else's stones in their system, it's stuff you could have bought from them but didn't. Since you already have their platform youre not going to spend an extra like $200 to get a different company's and why do that if you can buy stones from worksharp for like 45 - Just guessing on the prices here btw and a lot of other things :P
Which is better? The new upgrade system or the basic one + venev greater dog series? In terms of longevity of the stones and the quality of the edge that you can achieve
I agree that a stone holder would have been better, but if they're already making plates then a magnetic plate holder (basically the field sharpener on a rod) that uses existing plates would have been perfect (proprietary as well, which is great for Worksharp).
I mean i personally think its good to have a selection of stones, regular diamond plates are extremely useful and good to have in your Arsenal, especially the lower grits, they can help you reprofile faster is it a must NO but is it good yes
Nice video; thanks! This is probably where I'll go when I get a system. Good ideas on the interchangeable stone-holder cassettes. Dollars to donuts they get that going pretty quick once they see this video lol!
Where can you find the blue support piece that you placed under the knife? Something I was thinking about making myself due to the sag you get while putting pressure on the blade. Thanks
For less than 2 dollars you can go to hardware store and get a 3/8 inch rod coupling and two 3/8 inch cap bolts 3/4 inch long. Screw cap bolts in each end and it's fully adjustable to put under the clamp for larger knives. I put electrical tape on ends of bolts for a little padding. That was just for preference though.
Just bought one on Facebook marketplace for $25 brand new. I want to order he additions for other fine stones I’ll comment on how that will work for me. Thanks again for the great help!!! 🤘🏼👍🏼
Yeah I think a 1200 would be great especially before the Ceramic but the 800 will get finer after some use and the Ceramic will be more effective. And if you seen my aftermarket attachments you can get any stones you want
@@NeevesKnives I saw that attachment and the fact that it can use 4" KME stones etc. gives you a lot of really, really good options. I am actually planning on buying that sharpener, as well as the attachment you have shown. I do have a question for you though if you are feel up to answering it.. I have a much loved Fox Knives Karambit and wondered if flat stones were safe to sharpen it or if I should hunt down some curved stones instead.
my biggest problem so far as a beginner is not knowing when to switch stones...what's your advice to know when it's time to switch? Idk if I'm doing it too early or too late.
after your new scratch pattern reaches the apex on one side on the entire edge bevel and you have a burr, flip do the other side the same way after you get another burr on the opposite side you are ready to switch stones, i have a lot of sharpening videos you should watch i break all this information down perfectly, check out my playlist theres all my sharpening videos in there
Yes and no, watch my aftermarket attachments video, if you have this system you can buy an aftermarket attachment for scissors. And an attachment for recurve. If you have both attachments then yes. But you might not need both if the scissors will fit the clamps properly, You can also try the lansky and buy the recurve attachments.
I have both holders from gritomatic. If you are able to get the hapstone version , it is much better. Not only is it built more solid. It also gives you full range of motion on your stones. The LE version has the ball handle, which shortens your stroke. That being said, the LE version is still a decent option.
Awesome vid and congrats again on the 15K ride that wave all the way to 100K hopefully. Would you suggest the upgrade kit by worksharp or the Stone Holder and extra venev stones from Grainger in 2" by 4". With regards to cost and longevity I'm leaning towards the stone holder and extra venev stones. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
Hi Jared I was wondering when you clamp the knife in the clamp do you set it up as if there is an imaginary line from the heel of the blade to the tip, so that the clamp runs parallel to that line?
Thanks for the video. Rather informative and certainly helpful. Do you have a lead on where to acquire the clamp brace? The eBay link is no longer valid. How well does the clamp hold the knife steady without scarring the blade in the place where it clamps to the blade? Thanks in advance for your time and willingness to help.
I have my doubts and thinking buying this system was a bad idea as there are no replacements available in the u.k. this upgrade kit your talking about is certainly not available over here, I am now stuck with a sharpener that has a limited life span.
Not readily available everywhere, because I guess everybody wants one and almost every company has supply chain issues these days. Heinnie has replacements: heinnie.com/search-result/?search_query_adv=worksharp+precision+adjust, as do couteaux-collection.com/search?q=worksharp+precision+adjust and www.knivesandtools.nl/search?q=worksharp%20precision%20adjust. I just ordered my upgrade kit from www.coutellerie-tourangelle.com/recherche-resultats.php?search_in_description=1&ac_keywords=worksharp+precision+adjust
Can u replace each stone individualy or do i have to replace the entire set as one that would be alot if plastice tossed out and wasted stones if one wasn't used as much as others
Im hoping they will have replacement stones no rod for purchase, as of the moment im not sure. Butvthey would have to come on new plastic the way its made, that was kind of my thought at the end with what i was saying
Has anyone tried W.E. paddles on these. If the rods are the same diameter shouldn't they work? Idk. I have kme. But I'm getting very interested in this system as well. Just a random thought as I'm falling asleep. Love your videos Jared. You are one of my favorite channels to watch on here. Keep banging out the content.
@@NeevesKnives my buddy has a W.E. I'll try to get over there and mic. The rods on his system. I'll let you know what I find out. If those work it could be really sweet
I let the stone do the work very little weight but yes i use the same back n forth, but when i finish i usually go one direction, im going to do a tips and tricks video soon keep an eye out i have some great tips
If I’m reading the info correctly on the original kit and the upgrade kit, some of the stones are duplicates. I wonder why they did that rather than giving you all different grits.
Either way the stones wear out so having a duplicate would be a good thing, and if you already had the original stones they could possibly be wore out by now
If you have the aftermarket 4" stone holder for this system you can use any 4"stone, but you have to get the aftermarket attachment, I've got videos on it and more coming soon
You can still get the original setup or the upgraded one which gives you the system and these stones and Strop, I'm not completely sure if you can just get the stones separately, I'm guessing soon you will be able to buy stone replacements
"why dont they use the slider holder where you can use anyones stones?" you answered your own question. right now, if your stone holder breaks you have to buy a new work sharp or the upgrade kit. which costs more
ok so it cuts paper. Does it shave? also if your scales are not allowing the works to get all the way to the end of the blade then take off the scales. break down the knife and only put the blade on the sharpener. problem solved.
You're awesome Jared, you got a great point you really do and I don't know sometimes sometimes the most obvious goes right over the smartest heads I don't know but anyways good point hopefully they will do it thanks for your time and for your brains
Check out my other video on all the aftermarket market attachments I have an entire video filled with all kinds of attachments and the links are in the description
Well the diamonds are monocrystalin or what ever they are lab created diamonds and they are expensive in a way look up larg diamond plates they are hundreds sometimes. Their are different levels of quality my venevs are 180$ a piece, but it just depends on how they are made and the size, it's diamond dust electro plated to a metal surface, venevs are resin bonded throughout
I know this is a old video but they do sell replacement stones for this system. I would love to get this system but at $180.00 Canadian it is a little out of my league. My wife would shoot me if I came home with this system.
Sorry but not worth it... 80 dollar for 3 stone you already have, and 3 different grit stone... With 3 rod and 3 stone holder... Not even going to mention the strop since it's pointless having a strop on any system... A free hand strop is 100time better. Buy the normal kit for 50 and grab yourself one of those orange stone holder... This the best way to go... For the same price of the elite $120...
Not the best system for thin, narrow blades (think shun paring) blade and low angle (Japanese 15-17deg). Problem is the clamp: When you put the knife deep into jaws of the clamp, very little if the blade is exposed and with the angle you’ll wind up grinding the clamp vs the bevel. Nothing is perfect.
Did he just sharpen & POLISH the edge!!! & Slowly cut thru a paper towel??? WAIT.. do you know how extremely almost impossible it is to "With a knife" cut thru paper towe..?? Let that sink in.. I'm gettin' one...

Idk if I'm doing it too early or too late.
after your new scratch pattern reaches the apex on one side on the entire edge bevel and you have a burr, flip do the other side the same way after you get another burr on the opposite side you are ready to switch stones, i have a lot of sharpening videos you should watch i break all this information down perfectly, check out my playlist theres all my sharpening videos in there
Hello
One question please, would this product help me sharpen dog grooming scissors, especially if they are curved?
Yes and no, watch my aftermarket attachments video, if you have this system you can buy an aftermarket attachment for scissors. And an attachment for recurve. If you have both attachments then yes. But you might not need both if the scissors will fit the clamps properly, You can also try the lansky and buy the recurve attachments.
Gritomatic just recently released a new version of the stone holder for this system. The LE stone holder is $16.50!! Available in 4" and 6"
I have both holders from gritomatic.
I think both are an amazing option, the upgrade will be easier to deal with but won't last as long as the attachment with stones
Would you be able to sharpen harder steels like maxamet or s110v with this upgrade?
Absolutely
Do you need to raise a burr with every face of the plates? (I’m new to this)
Hi Jared I was wondering when you clamp the knife in the clamp do you set it up as if there is an imaginary line from the heel of the blade to the tip, so that the clamp runs parallel to that line?
You can think of a line from center of pivot to tip of blade
How can I get that after market part that helps the blade from moving? Where can I order it from?
Thanks for the video. Rather informative and certainly helpful. Do you have a lead on where to acquire the clamp brace? The eBay link is no longer valid. How well does the clamp hold the knife steady without scarring the blade in the place where it clamps to the blade? Thanks in advance for your time and willingness to help.
Hey where’d you get that little blue reinforcement thing you’re putting under the knife sharpener I just bought this set up and I’m hoping it’s ridged
Etsy, I linked it in my last attachment video from a couple weeks ago
I have my doubts and thinking buying this system was a bad idea as there are no replacements available in the u.k. this upgrade kit your talking about is certainly not available over here, I am now stuck with a sharpener that has a limited life span.
Check out my aftermarket attachments video, you cab upgrade it so you can use any stones
@@NeevesKnives Do you have a link I still cannot find anything I assume you have a website but cannot find that either
Not readily available everywhere, because I guess everybody wants one and almost every company has supply chain issues these days.
Heinnie has replacements: heinnie.com/search-result/?search_query_adv=worksharp+precision+adjust, as do couteaux-collection.com/search?q=worksharp+precision+adjust and www.knivesandtools.nl/search?q=worksharp%20precision%20adjust. I just ordered my upgrade kit from www.coutellerie-tourangelle.com/recherche-resultats.php?search_in_description=1&ac_keywords=worksharp+precision+adjust
Great video Jared. I was wondering if you can use water with the stones?
Yes you can but don't need to, the Ceramic you should though, I likevto use dish soap and water mix
@@NeevesKnives Thank you!
Is the finger bandage required for all knife videos? I like it!
Pretty much one place or another 👊
Does this work with small pocket knives like little otf’s?
How do you like that 3d print ?
Can u replace each stone individualy or do i have to replace the entire set as one that would be alot if plastice tossed out and wasted stones if one wasn't used as much as others
Im hoping they will have replacement stones no rod for purchase, as of the moment im not sure. Butvthey would have to come on new plastic the way its made, that was kind of my thought at the end with what i was saying
Great vid brother
Has anyone tried W.E. paddles on these. If the rods are the same diameter shouldn't they work? Idk. I have kme. But I'm getting very interested in this system as well. Just a random thought as I'm falling asleep. Love your videos Jared. You are one of my favorite channels to watch on here. Keep banging out the content.
Yeah I'm not sure if they will fit or not, 👊
@@NeevesKnives my buddy has a W.E. I'll try to get over there and mic. The rods on his system. I'll let you know what I find out. If those work it could be really sweet
I have a question bud do you put weight when you go both forward and when you come backwards again???
I let the stone do the work very little weight but yes i use the same back n forth, but when i finish i usually go one direction, im going to do a tips and tricks video soon keep an eye out i have some great tips
If I’m reading the info correctly on the original kit and the upgrade kit, some of the stones are duplicates. I wonder why they did that rather than giving you all different grits.
Either way the stones wear out so having a duplicate would be a good thing, and if you already had the original stones they could possibly be wore out by now
Is this only available through their website? I can't find it on Amazon unfortunately.
I put links in description this upgrade will be available Oct 1st
@@NeevesKnives it's a bit pricey for the 3. I was thinking longevity wise separate stones and a stone holder is most cost effective
Wait does that hack work? Could I use the plates from the guided sharpener on the gritomatic attachment?
If you have the aftermarket 4" stone holder for this system you can use any 4"stone, but you have to get the aftermarket attachment, I've got videos on it and more coming soon
Do you still use the basic stone or just the one of the upgrade kit ?
Just the new ones, you can still use the old one but it's not necessary but still good to have because DIAMOND plates wear out
Any idea where to get that clamp brace? It doesn’t exist on eBay anymore….
I just posted a video a few days ago, go on my page I have a whole video of aftermarket parts, and all of them are linked in the description
Would you really recommend this over the Lansky??
Yes,
A different reviewer of a sharpener deliberately blunted a knife so he could sharpen it and he suggested we look away.
😆
so i got confused, this isn't just an upgrade kit to their original system? it's literally a whole new setup?
You can still get the original setup or the upgraded one which gives you the system and these stones and Strop, I'm not completely sure if you can just get the stones separately, I'm guessing soon you will be able to buy stone replacements
What's the name of that blue piece you said was aftermarket
I linked it in the description
First again! WOOT!
Bang!
"why dont they use the slider holder where you can use anyones stones?" you answered your own question. right now, if your stone holder breaks you have to buy a new work sharp or the upgrade kit. which costs more
Whats the blue thing and how do i get one?
Does the strop already come with green compound on it?
Yes
There’s that kubey321 again damn gonna make me have to buy it
You wont regret
ok so it cuts paper.
Thanks Ron
One clamp many stones means one clamp less money for work sharp lol. Great sharpener though. I really want one.
Where can I find the little support tool you have?
Thanks
Etsy, or check out my new attachment video I linked it
@@NeevesKnives Thanks
@@NeevesKnives found one on eBay, thanks.
How it be with the calibrated angle ?
What do you mean?
I wish it was strop+fine ceramic+800 so that I don’t have to switch those rods every time I touch up my knives.
They dont do that because the stone would contaminate the strop, however i wouldnt mind a 1200 added, then move the ceramic and strop into one
@@NeevesKnives Oh that make sense.
👍🏻
Precision adjust or WSGSS?
Both
Can someone provide a link for clamp brace to keep it from moving so much?
Check out my other video on all the aftermarket market attachments I have an entire video filled with all kinds of attachments and the links are in the description
On what degree you did this knife ?
Probably 20° for the video but I usually do 17°
Another thing. Try putting an Esse 5 0r 6 or Laser Strike in it. 😢
One clamp many stones... Fortune cookie fortune 😃
Hi. Where can I get a Clamp brace? TY
Watch my other attachment videos they are linked in description I have a new video coming very soon
@@NeevesKnives found it on Etsy
do you know why diamond stones are not expensive?
Well the diamonds are monocrystalin or what ever they are lab created diamonds and they are expensive in a way look up larg diamond plates they are hundreds sometimes. Their are different levels of quality my venevs are 180$ a piece, but it just depends on how they are made and the size, it's diamond dust electro plated to a metal surface, venevs are resin bonded throughout
the way you check how sharp your knives are; terrifies me.
I'm a professional so I check edges all day long, I run a Sharpening service, so checking sharpness is something I'm extremely used to
I know this is a old video but they do sell replacement stones for this system. I would love to get this system but at $180.00 Canadian it is a little out of my league. My wife would shoot me if I came home with this system.
Any link to the blue piece ?

Sorry but not worth it... 80 dollar for 3 stone you already have, and 3 different grit stone... With 3 rod and 3 stone holder... Not even going to mention the strop since it's pointless having a strop on any system... A free hand strop is 100time better.
Buy the normal kit for 50 and grab yourself one of those orange stone holder... This the best way to go... For the same price of the elite $120...
What is that blue thing?
Stabilizer
@@NeevesKnives I realized after watching father into the video lol. Was hoping it was an item that could be bought
True
I have the same problem. I tried to sharpen an old knife from EKA and it took nothing and then I saw the clamp got fucked up instead... huh.
Was about to grab the Gritomatic adapter and stones, but I'm gonna get the upgrade kit instead!
👍
How much $ is this upgrade kit going to run.
I think around 75$ or something like that, you can look it up on there site
@@NeevesKnives thanks man, yeah it’s up on there site meow. It’s $80. I looked the other day and couldn’t find it.
@@A-Fern it's probably out of stock until they fill it again which shouldn't be to oong
Disappointed the flexing issue wasn’t addressed.
Well i atleast found a small attachment you can get from etsy
Did he just sharpen & POLISH the edge!!! & Slowly cut thru a paper towel??? WAIT.. do you know how extremely almost impossible it is to
"With a knife" cut thru paper towe..?? Let that sink in..
I'm gettin' one...
Bang!
It's around 140 dollars
