i love how DOOM is literally just a nerdy dude who has unparalleled rapping skills, and what may be the most iconic voice and sound in all of hip hop. RIP.
I think it's a good track to start out with honestly. Dude said he wanted to play an examle for people who may not be so familiar with DOOM and a great way to show people how crazy he is as not only a lyricist but also as a producer is to show them a track like Beef Rap where the whole intro is comprised of tons of different samples that all pertain to food and tell a story, or give a bit of information on DOOM himself. It demonstrates all the skills of DOOM amazingly.
I disagree. It looked like DOOM did too from the look he gave like "really, this one?". I am a huge DOOM fan and I always skip that intro. I understand playing the song, but as the FIRST ONE I'm sure a lot of people were confused.
Imagine if DOOM made an album called MOOD FM and it was like a radio show concept album. Im sure someone thought about this before me. edit: rest in peace DOOM. your universe meant the world to me.

The best part of this is that when we look at Doom we don't even see him wearing a mask, it's just like it's a part of him like that's normal, like that's his actual face.
"Follow your heart. A lot of people may not see your vision yet, people may call you crazy or think it doesn't make sense, follow your heart and follow it all the way through and that's when you'll see you're making new ground and people will appreciate it later on. Never try to do something to impress the next man or woman. It's about what you see and what you have inside." DOOM last tidbit at the end of this interview has been such a source of inspiration for me lately.
+Pete Rock and JB Smoove I laughed at the fact he played that track too. That track with that skit at the start is meant to introduce an album, instead of playing something shorter as a sampler, he had doom kind of awkwardly sit there through the 5 minute track just looking at a room full of white people awkwardly bobbing their heads to a song being played off itunes like it was some kind of live set.
I like how chill he is. He doesn't just give a reply. He thinks about it and gives an answer. I respect him rocking it at his own pace. Not everything needs to be so fast. Just chill.

god this is so hard to watch now. DOOM was such an inspiration to so many people including me. he brought me out of the darkest parts of my life and taught me that you don’t have to fit in to be happy. Long live the masked faced villain, you are loved and will be missed
DOOM seems like the type of guy to not listen to his own music. Not because he isn’t happy with it or not proud of it, but because he just likes music and wants to listen to what other people have made
Hip Hop is just too materialistic these days that artists like DOOM are overlooked because of not having mass appeal, i.e club bangers. I cherish the day I discovered DOOM in my Hip Hop self study journey. Thanks to Boondocks, "Let's nab Oprah" episode.
Makes me sad watching this interview because I always used to read it instead. Learning how much thought he put into his music, from the concept to lyrics to production to the message he try to convey. He didn’t just rap and make beats, he was creating full fledged art in a way no one has seen before. Creating his own universe with his own characters and have us literally craving anything he released so we can see how the story continues. Crazy thing about is he knew what he was doing the whole time. Like artists like him, you would think he was just chilling and doing his thing however whatever but no.. DOOM had everything planned like a real villain would. Rest In Peace Legend.

relating bad food habits to heroine addicts using toilet water (public bathrooms in mind most likely) to being brainwashed by TV. that mindset is what makes Doom timeless. his beats Ill. his flow the dopest. but what tops it all is his perspective on life.
I can't believe he isn't with us anymore. It feels like we really lost a bunch of knowledge... He was hurting, the death of his son must have really impacted him this year.

Mate, that's an insane spot by you, holy shit. I keep playing it back and you're 100 percent right.
I feel like Doom smells like cologne, cheese and beer.
Travis Turner gross
Travis Turner all caps bro u forgot it
ALL, MUH'FUCKIN, CAPS
Brendan Wright he smells like peanut butter and chocolate
It's the Cosby sweater.
Doom is such a chill guy, letting every word you say to him seep to his core before he replies.

“Keep it simple” -MF Doom
Didn’t see that one coming
yeah, in a weird way keeping it simple is much harder than being abstract.
Says the man whose lyrics need an English professor to decipher
lmao
DOOM
I think he meant the production. Keep the production simple and as close to the original sample.
I feel like this guy was just a long time DOOM fan and he got the chance to interview him😂 dude seems like he’s geeking out
god this is so hard to watch now. DOOM was such an inspiration to so many people including me. he brought me out of the darkest parts of my life and taught me that you don’t have to fit in to be happy. Long live the masked faced villain, you are loved and will be missed
Same man, feels weird looking back at this
1:18:00 Damn, you see his hand movement? He STILL remembers exactly how that piano is played. That's sooooooo fresh. Love DOOM.
that's a sample, he did not play it himself.
@@hassroek you really had to do it to him
I think I heard somewhere that Madlib played the piano on one/a few of the songs on Madvillainy, but I don't remember which
And from what i can hear, the sample uses a saxophone, not a keyboard/piano. So it's probably played by either DOOM or Madlib.
@@hassroek That makes even cooler
This hits heavy, makes me tear up: 1:38:48 RIP DOOM!!!!
i'm sure i'll come back to this
14:48
16:35 MF DOOM character
20:04 why the mask
Ward
Did you come back?
*Narrator voice*
“He in fact did not come back”
Best thing about DOOM is that he's not gimmicky - has a well thought out answer for WHY he wears the mask, has the samples e.t.c.
45:26 is such an amazing moment, he remembers every little beat of what made him, rip a legend
damn youre right
Man DOOM truly is a living legend. Abstract rhymes, obscure beats, a master who is truly unpredictable.
DOOM seems like the type of guy to not listen to his own music. Not because he isn’t happy with it or not proud of it, but because he just likes music and wants to listen to what other people have made
I love how he adjusts his mask. It's part of his anatomy.
Its something you have to do when you wear a mask
Dude is so fascinating. I like how he really pauses takes in the question and responds intelligently and concisely. My favorite rapper.
Hip Hop is just too materialistic these days that artists like DOOM are overlooked because of not having mass appeal, i.e club bangers. I cherish the day I discovered DOOM in my Hip Hop self study journey. Thanks to Boondocks, "Let's nab Oprah" episode.
Thabo Mahlaba THANK YOU THATS THE NAME OF THE EPISODE MUCH LOVE
Thabo Mahlaba Same , I remember how much I loved Raid and I simply couldn't let that go
thought all caps played in boondocks
@@smileyent.3055 that and Strange Ways showed up in that episode
For all your MF DOOM fans...if it wasn't for Kool Keith aka Dr Octagon aka Dr Doom aka Black Elvis there would be no MF DOOM!!
Rest In Peace
Legend.
Returning to this after news of Viktors passing, rest in power DOOM.
I’ve heard stories of the one they call DOOM for the past 15 or so years (I’m 22) only as of yesterday I decided to listen to this Madvillain and I don’t regret this at all!!! MF DOOM is the goat
What stories have you heard..??
those people don't realize how fucking lucky they are to be there with doom
Micheal Scott i was thinking the same. They all dont deserve to be there.
31:38 YES. I completely agree Daniel. I hate that nobody in the crowd screamed it. I think that hip-hop, as well as the rest of the world, could use a little more humor. I will play your rhymes till the day I die. RIP DOOM.
RIP to an actual legend...
Hes a real legend
Mm...food is an absolute masterpiece of an album
Had to come back to hear DOOM's words of wisdom. RIP MADVILLIAN
him doing the piano movements with his hand at 1:18:00 is too crazy
Literally had a room of hiphop enthusiasts and backpackers. Watchin the suits nod like its Shakespeare speaks alot to his words and rhyme schemes. Long Live Viktor Vaughn
Viktor Vaughn is one of his alias's too btw, his real name is Daniel Dumile Thompson if I know correctly
RIP MAD VILLIAN. Seriously lost sleep over the bad news.
Me too man, it’s the worst news I’ve heard in a long time
@Jommy Whjjwjw no but when a person you idolize and probably meant something to you fucking dies, you're gonna get hurt whether you knew them or not.
@Jommy Whjjwjw you need a hug
I lost sleep cause I was up all night running back his discography, very sad but part of me is happy knowing I got to experience a music genius like DOOM in my lifetime. Nobody ever gonna do it like DOOM did
@Jommy Whjjwjw oh yeah man good point!! so when you’ve been listening to someone for over 4 years nearly every single day and watched countless videos appreciating his art and music from interviews and shows, no need to get upset. thanks dude, will remember that next time.
I'm glad he used "Great Day" as the example for Madvillainy. Favorite song, too bad it's much less popular than All Caps, Accordion, Curls, etc
Floating Mario Head or rainbows
Floating Mario Head Strange Ways is a slept on track too, that and Meat Grinder are probably my favorites
Really like the Four Tet remix too.
DAUKSZ them and RC are my favs
Boondocks put me on DOOM without me even knowing. I love Raid.
Didn't find out about doom until he died now he's my favorite rapper...I'm mad at myself for not knowing about him early in his career😢
"Just remember all caps when you spell the man name" - MF DOOM
Me same here, just know who MF DOOM was for 2 days ago 😭 I am super late of course I also feel ashamed for discover any genius artist after they dead 💔
RIP the Mozart of hiphop MF DOOM, legend never die 🕊
all caps when you spell the mans name
Hearing and seeing young DOOM and seeing him now is so strange. Almost eerie when you know what he's been through.
I Am Geezus what has he been through?
Ball into theMax His brother and son have died and he was homeless for a while, he definitely hasn't had an easy life.
relating bad food habits to heroine addicts using toilet water (public bathrooms in mind most likely) to being brainwashed by TV. that mindset is what makes Doom timeless. his beats Ill. his flow the dopest. but what tops it all is his perspective on life.
heroin.
I can't believe he isn't with us anymore. It feels like we really lost a bunch of knowledge... He was hurting, the death of his son must have really impacted him this year.
I did not know this
He's in Cuba with Tupac .
I even like his voice and the way he talks and express himself, so chill but sharp and clever at the same time, he really was a genius, much love to him wherever he is, R.I.P.
“Just keep it simple” he says that but at the same time almost every word in ‘Figaro’ fits a rhyme scheme
For him it's all simple

doom is soooo underated compared to other artists from new york! Every kid knows who jay z is. This is hip hop. operation doomsday should be recognized as the best album ever.
jay made a bigger impact in popular hip hop culture, why do you expect any different
+Harrison Brand publicly maybe that's how it's seems but that's not strictly true! Doom has had a lot more to do with the entire music industry than most people realise! Jay z is responsible for countless bullshit gun gun money money bitches emcees! Mf doom makes the freshest hip hop albums! Freshest ryhmes and beats in the game! He's should have the recognition that Kanye west has and more importantly he ain't an arrogant prick! He's in the background like a real boss! Your favourite rappers rapper
+William Sulman i prefer doom absolutely im just saying in general whoever is making most pop/headlines will come out on top in the public eye.
+Harrison Brand sorry I maybe got a bit excited, and yeah that's correct obviously. Respect brother

I'm still here till this day, I've studied this man for years and my writing has skyrocketed heavily. Thank you so much for all the beautiful music you've made MF DOOM, all of us appreciate your music. MF DOOM's creativity was exceptional. The world misses him and I do, I hardly get influenced by many but he is one of my huge inspirations.
