Nade is just being real. It is REALLY difficult to be profitable in esports. From the high costs of franchising and overvaluing, to the (rightfully) high demands of good salaries from players, and from how low returns are as the average fan/viewer isn’t close to as invested as the average sports fan, organizations will report losses year by year. The Overwatch League is a great example of high expectations leading to high failure, with not only teams but the whole league to fail. The only incentive into investing into esports is the passion for competing and seeing your team winning, or somehow having the fumes to run long enough that you build a legacy that then you get diehard fans, or as Nade said hopefully the next generation who grows up on it who will become diehards.
It’s called self awareness. The world isn’t the fairy tale you probably still assume it is. What you’re seeing is wisdom. Something lost on young people in 2024. Hustle culture is a lie.

The only thing holding esports up the last few years was crypto investors, like FTX and TSM, Coinbase and Liquid, Cloud9 and bc game, but with a majority of crypto struggling, a lot of these investors either pulled out or don’t invest nearly as much as they did. Sentinels in 2022 posted a huge 8 million loss, and it’s common for organizations to generally be in the red. Like last years Valorant Champions winner, Evil Geniuses, had to completely disband their team because even though they won the biggest Valorant event of the year, they still were in the red, had to lay off staff and sell some of their players. Last year, the prize pool for VCT was just over 2 million, and Evil Geniuses took 1m for being first. I remember first watching nadeshot years ago when he was vlogging and then he started selling 100 thieves shirts it is honestly crazy to see how far they’ve come since then.
I was part of those three rounds of layoffs at 100T. I also worked at Epic Games for 5 years and helped ship Fortnite to a global audience prior to joining 100T. Matt (Nade) was a good CEO and I learned a lot watching him and speaking to him during my few years there. I was a partnerships manager and was directly involved in many of our largest sponsorship deals and saw things at their peak versus what the landscape looks like now. Esports is no walk in the park and this podcast was an amazing look through the mirror for everyone. Blue chip companies and brands are thinking twice about where they are investing their money and are realizing that there are better (more impactful) ways to connect with gamers. They saw esports as a means to attract and ultimately gain gamers as customers. When they saw the needle wasn’t moving the way they had hoped in conjunction with the current economic state it led to them pulling back those dollars significantly. Esports isn’t going anywhere, but it will look different in a few years.
Seeing Nade mature from where he started and to where he is now is the coolest thing. I know he likes to play it off like he's a moron, but the dude has learned his lane and to see him vocalize it is truly impressive.
It’s probably one of the scariest ventures to go into to.. but the next step for ESPORTS is to move towards a streaming website specifically for esports. The scariest part is twitch having a chokehold on gaming. But whoever can figure it out will make A LOT of money.
2 years ago I'd somewhat agree with that statement, but the way the landscape is today with how popular watchparties are that just wouldn't work, especially since the vast majority of watchparties are now finding the most success with people who aren't always constantly involved in the esports side. Sure you have people like NiceWigg with Apex who's entire involvement in the game is the esports, and somewhat to the same degree you have Tarik in Valorant etc etc, but the majority of huge watchparty creators are doing content unrelated to the esports side for 95% of the time until a tournament in their game shows up and then they co-stream, and then it's back to their standard schedule of content until the next one rolls around. The big esports streaming platform isn't going to fork out millions in creator contracts for creators that only stream esports twice a month at best and all those creators are going to stick to their Twitch/UA-cam contracts.

As a loyal fan since 2018 of Colin and Samir, and an avid supporter of Nadeshot since like 2013 and 100 Thieves, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for this episode. I've always hoped for an episode featuring both Matt and Jack. Growing up on UA-cam and watching Nadeshot during his Minecraft Optic days, it’s incredible to see his journey from leaving Optic to founding 100 Thieves and achieving so much success in esports. This episode was particularly engaging as it addressed many questions I often ponder about 100 Thieves from a business perspective. Witnessing the challenges faced by gaming companies, especially the layoffs since 2023, has been tough. You’re right; individual creators don't always bring the same level of hype to an organization as a superstar athlete does to a team, like Bronny James to the Lakers. Each game has its own niche audience-when Rated and Tommey joined 100T, it was a big deal for COD fans, just like Octane’s return. Similarly, Timmy’s addition excited the Val and Apex communities. Hiko is another great example, staying on as a content creator after retiring. It’s challenging to maintain a unified fanbase when interests are so spread out. Personally, I follow VALORANT, LoL, and COD but don’t watch 100T’s Apex content. I’m sure there are others like me who focus on just one or two esports titles.
Yo! It's been a while since I've seen one of your videos on UA-cam. I really learnt a whole lot from your videos and I miss them. Regardless, I hope you're good, man. If you do decide to make a comeback for BO6, I'll be there. If not, I just hope you continue to take good care of yourself. Have a great one!
That’s cool and all but that’s not the point. The point is how can he make the company profitable. It’s easy to build hype for yourself and your Org to the point where you get millionaires to give you money and you go on to sign the best players….but it’s another thing to be able generate money from having all of them under your Org. It’s impossible to profit when the very same ppl you signed are a brand themselves. People would rather give their money to the player rather than the Org they’re on. The Org needs to take a % of what the players earn if they want to be profitable. It’s that simple. Giving them money to be in your group just isn’t enough
Whether Matt is on his own stream or in a Colin and Samir video, he is still yapping. The king of yapping. Nadeshot has done more for the CoD community than we deserve and we'll be forever grateful.
- Pay creators a minimum wage - Convert some space to rooms - Release shares to creators - Create a team locally that grinds together for 5 years - Cash out *hire accordingly for content etc, make strategic decisions, get Drake involved, easy to sell at 1B * Nade should completely handover until he's rejuvenated
I think an Org like PWR has done it perfectly. Get talent but make sure the brand is growing and recognizable. Of course they're down under and it's probably "easier" but I'm from Belgium and I know the org and the players. Nadeshot, you should be proud man. You've moved mountains
The way to grow is to sign players with personality that have ambitions of doing more than just sitting at their desk gaming. You need people willing to participate to do events and do things to bring attention to the brand. itzTimmy is a great player but he does nothing to help the 100T brand grow. If anything…his own brand made more money than 100T gets in return.
I believe Nadeshot has the vision and the formula to make 1oo thieves the success it should be.. but I feel that what Nadeshot doesn't have is the WILL to implement his vision on to others without worrying what others might think of him... hopefully this new directions creates a peace in mind and a journey of success for 1oo thieves ..
First time listening to this pod cast. I think y’all should look at the recent cod champ event hosted by optic. The amount of people who attended the event gives me hope for the future of esports
Unironically, you guys need some skating content on this channel. I can tell that Samir is still passionate about it! Someone like Stacy Peralta would be a golden interview. But otherwise, PRod would be great. NKAVids has been doing it a long time. Spencer Barton is a fun and unique video creator.
For people that don’t understand what raising 120 million means. It means that they got investors to put up $120 million to build out the infrastructure of the company while looking for a return on that investment in probably 5-7yrs. 100T did what most people do in esports which is spend way more than they’ll ever get in return to try and build a brand that will gain a fanbase that they can sell sponsors to. That’s it
Love to see you guys thriving after following since the TLN days. Watching you guys cover lacrosse throughout my high school years was awesome, really happy you guys found another lane that you're thriving in.
I was a student in a collegiate esports program for the last few years before I dropped out this May (for personal reasons that don't have anything to do with esports). its crazy to see how much of a tailspin the industry has been in from this perspective compared to my perspective working the bottom rung at some large events and seeing now how obviously overblown the market was and how sold a lot of us were on the dream reality that was just too soon for the industry. esports went from grassroots homebrew no infrastructure to multimillion dollar contracts too quickly with nothing underlying any of the businesses to support that capital injection.
this is so great to hear from nade. he's literally summarizing and addressing all of my issues with 100T. good to hear the org has a self aware founder
I think in the future, e-sports teams will have their own venues and league matches will be held home & away. They can earn extra money from Ticket and Food/Snack sales.
Damn, you hear all those stories about layoff and exec failing to show emotions and tell how tough is it, but nadeshot enbodies it like no one ever could.
Nadeshot if you are reading this, at 1:06:25 why was that not the case then? Obviously the funding was going to stop at some point and profitability was always going to be a question. Not just in 100T case but in all the cases.
As Nade said "i dont know why a creator would join an organization" I think investing in small creators and obviously paying them less than what you'd pay a bigger creator would be a smart investment. They will shill your brand, logo, and image for what you think they're worth more than what they think they're worth. More brand awareness is the name of the game. Say my name is dissolve and i wanted to be apart of a brand named quikstotic who at the time was the biggest brand in esports. Id immediately change my name to "Quiksoticdissolve" and start being like "yo buy this, buy that" and as his numbers and brand grow so do mine. Its just a marketing decision that would be smart.
This was the best episode you guys have ever done. So beyond refreshing to see Matt be totally open and honest and not this idiotic hustle , everything is good, young people mind set these days. Gives me hope.
You guys should take a look at Karmine Corp in France where they actually execute a lot of suggestions you guys have : a stadium (not theirs but they have residency in an arena), storytelling, a nemesis in France with Vitality and in Spain with Koi and a lot more business venturse they are exploring.
I love nadeshot, I feel like I’ve grown up alongside him, I watched him in 6050 with the boys, it’s sad to see how much the last 7 years has crippled him, hoping him being back around the optic boys brings back his confidence
I feel like 100T has the balance right, get people on their esports, then sell associated lifestyle merch. People are unlikely to buy an esport jersey to wear around, but a dope shirt with the subtle logo adds a bit of IYKYK element to the purchase. Love their League team btw. Go Sniper.
Nade started grinding cod from his gaming chair in his bedroom and became one of the most influential gamers of all time and started one of the most loved gaming brands ever. Absolute fkn legend
i was basically raised by nadeshot and optic. i can't say so for other esports, but specifically with call of duty esports the biggest problem in my opinion is that when franchising happened it did bring a more dense talent pool which naturally resulted in more compelling matches, but it also brought traditional investors who aren't in it because they genuinely love it. nade was right when he said competitive call of duty is like the wwe of esports. it's very theatrical, in your face, brash, and unrivaled shit talking. it's why call of duty is my favorite esport

I remember first watching nadeshot years ago when he was vlogging and then he started selling 100 thieves shirts it is honestly crazy to see how far they’ve come since then.
This gave me a lot of respect for Nade.
Never watched him, but been fully aware of him for years.
As a diehard 100T & Nade supporter and avid watcher of Colin & Samir - this was a dream video! Been hoping this would come one day 🙏
I was part of those three rounds of layoffs at 100T.
This video is so honest and refreshing man
Great conversation! A lot of free game in here! Appreciate everyone involved.
Seeing Nade mature from where he started and to where he is now is the coolest thing. I know he likes to play it off like he's a moron, but the dude has learned his lane and to see him vocalize it is truly impressive.
Nade is the goat. I won’t hear otherwise
NADESHOT! Man we played before back in 2010-2011. I'm just getting back into gaming! everything lol. its dope af man to still see you guys around!!! LEGENDS. dont forget about lil poison n halo 2! hahahahaa
I’ll take cap for 500
@@kylev8502 not cap look up KILLER MINI ME. I was homies with Gazii actually and XGeN was fakies name before anything. and have old clips of me playing with temperr and all the OG's shut up some of us PRO GAMERS Quit and come back and KIDS Like YOU THINK WE'RE HACKING LMAO
Nade is the goat. No doubt. He's the reason I started creating in the first place back in 2014. So much of my life is thanks to Matt, it's just crazy.
Nadeshot you done for the esports community than you can imagine. your the goat
Giving them money to be in your group just isn’t enough
nades the goat, 2nd podcast ive watched of him in 2 days
I love Nadeshot, hilarious, honest, humble and actually makes things easy to underhand. Followed him since I was a child
what a crossover! love 100T and this podcast, dope episode!
Whether Matt is on his own stream or in a Colin and Samir video, he is still yapping. The king of yapping. Nadeshot has done more for the CoD community than we deserve and we'll be forever grateful.
omg NO SHOT Matt is rolling hand warmers in his hand, LMAO. Love this guy
- Pay creators a minimum wage
- Convert some space to rooms
- Release shares to creators
- Create a team locally that grinds together for 5 years
- Cash out
*hire accordingly for content etc, make strategic decisions, get Drake involved, easy to sell at 1B
* Nade should completely handover until he's rejuvenated
42:13 I knew my boy was faded since the beginning 😂😂
i wish people who arent aware of Nadeshot, one day realize how REAL, SMART AND GENUINE this man really is.
Everyone needs a friend like Jack
Been a fan of their League team since it was created and really sad to hear it wont be around next year.
Going to call him Matthew Hog from here on out 😂
That threw me off ngl
Nadeshot. I used to play against you in MW2 with Fear. You’re a legend. Love the honest interview. This is incredible.
Nadeshot has been one of my biggest inspirations since I was a kid and has carried over to business
Love seeing worlds collide here
Unironically, you guys need some skating content on this channel.
Been waiting for this one! Let’s go!
I see nade, I click
As a long time fan of Courage and Nadeshot, thank you for having them on the show!
You spoke with the man and didn’t ask him how to pronounce his last name? Matthew Hog 😂
Never clicked so fast on an interview.
Amazing show! Wish you would’ve touched on what happened with nickmercs in the beginning. It’s really weird that it’s just ignored
Shout out NadeShot he put me on to nicotine!
this is so great to hear from nade. he's literally summarizing and addressing all of my issues with 100T. good to hear the org has a self aware founder
Been fans of these guys since the beginning. Very cool hearing the business side
Samir drew a perfect comparison about UE5 being Epic's AWS.
colin and samir been real quiet about mrbeast scandal
Content I have been waiting for a long time!
Great stuff! Been following both groups for a long time and was cool to see them in the same space on this podcast.
I could listen nade talk about the business of esports all day. Very entertaining
Genuinely one of my favorite interviews you guys have ever done--super insightful about a very interesting topic
Never heard of these guys before watching and am so glad I clicked. Awesome insights and a fun conversation.
Incredibly insightful video, Nade's a legend man...
Nadeshot if you are reading this, at 1:06:25 why was that not the case then? Obviously the funding was going to stop at some point and profitability was always going to be a question. Not just in 100T case but in all the cases.
I’ve been watching nadeshot since a teenager and you guys as an adult. A crossover I didn’t know I needed!
As Nade said "i dont know why a creator would join an organization"
I think investing in small creators and obviously paying them less than what you'd pay a bigger creator would be a smart investment.
Its just a marketing decision that would be smart.
matt zoning out during jacks talk is hilarious
Nade is always that guy. God bless him and his family
This was the best episode you guys have ever done. So beyond refreshing to see Matt be totally open and honest and not this idiotic hustle , everything is good, young people mind set these days. Gives me hope.
We are all waiting to get the old intro music back.
You guys should take a look at Karmine Corp in France where they actually execute a lot of suggestions you guys have : a stadium (not theirs but they have residency in an arena), storytelling, a nemesis in France with Vitality and in Spain with Koi and a lot more business venturse they are exploring.
Nade's dad arc is going crazy! I'm glad he has properly prioritized his time and realizes his mistakes he's made along the way.
I love nadeshot, I feel like I’ve grown up alongside him, I watched him in 6050 with the boys, it’s sad to see how much the last 7 years has crippled him, hoping him being back around the optic boys brings back his confidence
Sometimes you need to contract before you expand again. Loved the candor in this and getting insight in an industry I’ve never tapped into before!
This video is gonna blow up (9.4k views rn). Glad your focusing on gaming
I love the theme esport and try to work in that field myself. Would love to see more of that content. Great episode !!
I feel like 100T has the balance right, get people on their esports, then sell associated lifestyle merch.
People are unlikely to buy an esport jersey to wear around, but a dope shirt with the subtle logo adds a bit of IYKYK element to the purchase.
Love their League team btw. Go Sniper.
Love these guys
SUCH a great crossover love this content.
Awesome interview.
I like how serious Colin and Simir are, but at the same time they can let loose and joke with the boys too.
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
100% relate with obsessive fixation, and then burnout
