Growing up in the 80's, the 911 was my dream car. I finally can afford one so I drove the 911 turbo. It was slightly used. Beautiful car, but as they say, never meet your heroes. The car felt like a tank, slow and lethargic until those turbos kick in and then it took off like a rocket. I absolutely hated it. Then I test drove a Ferrari, a car I was never that fond of growing up. I fell in love and bought it. Ferrari's have such an intangible feeling that is hard to describe. You feel special when you drive one. The Porsche didn't give me that feeling.
Comparing a Ferrari to a Porsche is like comparing a toolbox to a gucci purse. Of course the gucci purse has a larger price tag and is more stylish. But the toolbox is all about function, and have you ever seen a real man with a gucci purse?
Absolutely yes, the Porsche is a well balanced car. It is for people who loves speed, all they want to do is go faster than the other guy and that´s it. They love the car just because it´s fast, so they can love an airplane too, if they could drive one. Ferreri is a car for people who loves cars, love the shape of the car, driving it at ANY SPEED. I´m a true car guy, I love get my hands dirty on my XJS, I love learning about facts and mechanics, I love almost all kind of cars (SUV, luxury sedans, japanese cars) and I really love driving my car at ANY SPEED. Porsches are for men who thinks like 8 years old kid and want to go fast over the street. We have to remember Ferraris are made in Italy, the country that thinks in clothes, watches, paint, architecture and CARS as art, not only something to go fast from the point A to the point B. Germany is a country that is constantly developing things to be "better" everyday, and they sometimes forget the important thing in life, enjoy what you are doing.
with the ferrari you get so much more, brilliant design, the engine compartment and view through glass, a beautiful v8 that sound fantastic, aluminum body/chassis less corrosion risk, superior suspension geometry, gated manual transmission, and probably many other things. The 911 is also most likely set up close to the maximum potential of the car while the 360 is probably in “safe mode” wheel alignment and can be added a rear wing so it would get faster than the 911 especially on a faster track. however the problem with the 360 is not the buying price but the ownership costs which can be in a different league even if lower than of other ferrari models.

So they’re track cars. How do they do at the world’s best track, the Nordschleife, instead of some parking lot course? 996 GT3 RS 7:43 Ferrari CS 7:57 Ouch.
We all had more fun in our track day cars back then. No one looked at times, but we ran bumper to bumper lap after lap at pace and all had smiles. Miss my old 6 GT3
I like the fact that on No other track are they even within a second of each other, Yet here they do the same time? Please, That GT3 should have ate that 360.
Absolutely love the 996gt3rs! I drove one a number of years back, and not driven anything since that matches the unadulterated driving appeal...before the era of electronic nannying driving aids. Good times.
the porsche is also beautiful and has such great handling that people say that when you test a Porsche for a day, your car will feel very "poop" compared to it. It also has decent handling! :D
Mike Gambarian You right, model is irrelevant. Porsche are far greater than Ferrari. They built the greatest sports and racing cars known to mankind and will continue that tradition in the future. Ferrari have never been a threat to Porsche.
I took my 1973 2.7+ Carerra RS 911, stripped all the good parts out of it and cobbled them into a great condition 1976 914 beefed up body. Lots of custom features along the way such as a electric heater/AC, holographic HUD, custom seats, etc. I'm keeping it!
I think the design of the 360 still holds up beautifully to this day. That design is timeless. The Ferrari 360 has been my dream car since it came out when I was a kid. I just hope to God I make enough money one day to afford one 😭
It's aging so well. With the 430 messed with the beautiful lines that call back to the Dino. Stick with the dream! Took me 14 years. Definitely have a large budget for maintenance/repairs, especially if you get a spider.
@@adamantiumknot I totally agree. Yeah it's not anywhere in the foreseeable future at this time. I definitely wouldn't buy one if I wasn't in a financial situation to afford the maintenance. May I ask what kind of work you do that you were able to afford one of these?
Just goes to show the effort the manufacturers put into these cars when they both put in all their efforts and get practically the same lap time that they have both taken full advantage of everything available to them.
Watching this 15 years later makes you realize how much these cars have evolved. The current 488 Pista is a turbo monster with just enough Ferrari (and electronics) attached to it to make it behave roughly like a car, while the 360 CS had finesse, it needed to be revved and carried through corners. The 911 GT3 on the other hand has basically stayed the same, but it has become much prettier, much more exciting and a lot faster by maintaining a good balance of engine and chassis. And I gotta say, I prefer Porsche's evolution vastly over Ferrari's technocratic revolution. I feel like Ferrari really should do a car that is a bit more retro in its approach, just to put the soul back in.
Of course Jeremy would pick the Ferrari just like how Richard would pick the Porsche and James would say both are rubbish
James owns more that one Ferrari
He has only owned two Ferrari's in the past he sold his F430 and has the 458
Hariz Hafi james has owned ferraris you jackass

They should come back to this test with a modern GT3 RS and a 458 Speciale
they probably will, since this was way back in 2008

The 911 is also most likely set up close to the maximum potential of the car while the 360 is probably in “safe mode” wheel alignment and can be added a rear wing so it would get faster than the 911 especially on a faster track. however the problem with the 360 is not the buying price but the ownership costs which can be in a different league even if lower than of other ferrari models.

2 good cars and the sound of the Ferrari is just so amazing...
So they’re track cars. How do they do at the world’s best track, the Nordschleife, instead of some parking lot course?
996 GT3 RS 7:43
Ferrari CS 7:57
Ouch.
We all had more fun in our track day cars back then. No one looked at times, but we ran bumper to bumper lap after lap at pace and all had smiles. Miss my old 6 GT3
Watching this in 2019, the good old times!
I like the fact that on No other track are they even within a second of each other, Yet here they do the same time? Please, That GT3 should have ate that 360.
The very definition of chronic is that it happens over and over again, so it's actually impossible to have chronic back ache in one day.
Absolutely love the 996gt3rs! I drove one a number of years back, and not driven anything since that matches the unadulterated driving appeal...before the era of electronic nannying driving aids. Good times.
The sound of the 360 is just 🔥🔥 but damn the sound of the flat 6 of the 911's all these years have always been such a beautiful thing to hear ❤️❤️
same time and the 360 is 50 grand more?il take the Porsche any day.
the porsche is also beautiful and has such great handling that people say that when you test a Porsche for a day, your car will feel very "poop" compared to it. It also has decent handling! :D
Die hard Ferrari fans like Jeremy Clarkson cannot hide their distaste of Porsche. VW Beetle? What the hell is Ferrari then? A baby FIAT :)
Ferdinand Porsche was the creator of the Volkswagon Beetle, Fiat wasn't the creator of Ferrari.
Mike Gambarian Porsche 911 wasn't built by Ferdinand Porsche but his grandson Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The 911 isn't a beetle. Never was.
Model is irrelevant, Porsche was created by him and so was the Beetle, end of discussion. Porsche will never be like Ferrari.
Mike Gambarian You right, model is irrelevant. Porsche are far greater than Ferrari. They built the greatest sports and racing cars known to mankind and will continue that tradition in the future. Ferrari have never been a threat to Porsche.
LOL! The drugs must be better where you are.
How is The Stig listening to music if there is no radio in the Ferrari?
I thought there was at least a radio in it
He said as standard. You can see a radio in it. Look at 2:59
Thank You For The Videos. From Argentine 🤗
I took my 1973 2.7+ Carerra RS 911, stripped all the good parts out of it and cobbled them into a great condition 1976 914 beefed up body. Lots of custom features along the way such as a electric heater/AC, holographic HUD, custom seats, etc. I'm keeping it!
"scaled down version of god" hahaha
He's a one sided heathen!!
I've never heard Hammond commentate a lap before.
accurate to microseconds!!!unbelievable!!!
It was accurate to a tenth of a second not to a millionth.
2:56 Radio isn't standard but you can see it there.. Eyes and Ears, use them as a same time.
420 bhp was insane back then...now u get it as standard on most car saloons lol
“Ik its not on majority but u know wim”
I'd take the P-Car anyday for a track car over the Ferrari.
MrFunk Proton.
omg they literally used the entire Boards of Canada geogadi album for this
I think the design of the 360 still holds up beautifully to this day.
@@JackieLanceTenor freelance graphic designer. BUT it was more years of saving and making the savings work for me.
Just goes to show the effort the manufacturers put into these cars when they both put in all their efforts and get practically the same lap time that they have both taken full advantage of everything available to them.
Is that Boards of Canada?
yep
