Hi!! I have Generalized Epilepsy. Diagnosed at 14. I’m now 27 and married. My husband and I are wanting to start a family and have spoken to my neurologist, and our high risk OB. I am currently taking Keppra, Vimpat, Zonegran and Lamictal.
My neurologist wants me off of Lamictal before becoming pregnant due to chance of cleft lip & pallet. He said Keppra is the safest.
Go with your gut sweet girl!!
You are in charge of your own medicine. Always remember that!❤️❤️❤️

I'm so happy to come by this video! And all the women who also find it helpful. My friends are not epileptic and all mothers and I hear about how it's been so stressful etc or easy. All I think about is fear because I'm epileptic. I've been on Dilantin, Keppra and currently on Lamictal. I've been on Lamictal for the majority of my Epilepsy journey. I had bad side effects with the other medications. So far, with Lamictal everything has been fairly good. I'm 32 and now my husband and I decided to try for a family. I love that you mentioned that it needs to be planned. It totally does. The folic acid is a MUST! I was recommended that if I want to even think about having a baby to start prenatals and folic acid intake asap. I've been doing so and feel great. Probably better than usual. Maybe us women should just take prenatals regularly, lol. I don't work to keep my stress level down. Every job I've had I've had seizures. I also don't live alone. My parents live with us, my husband and I. So I always have someone near for help. That was important to me. I was living alone prior. And then we lived together and when babies came into the mix, I knew I was going to need the extra help. So I'm so blessed and thankful for that. Have any of you thought about that? Cause I know it's going to be hard and tiresome etc. And that's all got seizures written on them. I really would recommend either a friend or family member or maybe even a dula or maid who can assist with anything you need. The extra help is a must I think. Or just someone who can be a stand-by incase of emergency. I think I'm also going to document the process for informational purposes cause you don't find a lot of this on UA-cam. Thank you so much! 💓

Also the birth control method, you are correct. People with epilepsy can take bc because I'm also on it. Have been for 2 years. 'Xulane Patch' They say it helps my horomone patterns and I also found myself having less seizures. So yes glad to find this video with your advice and experience.

Hello, im 16 weeks pregnant with twins. I never had a seizure or even lost my conscious before the preganancy. At 8 weeks i suddenly got a tonic seizure. I was taken to the hospital and observed for 24h. Everything was fine. The neurologist said it seems like an epilpesy but won't give me medecine and ordred a IRM which i am still waiting for. At 15 weeks i had another seizure but while asleep and i broke 4 teeth and damaged my tongue. I am afraid. I will see the doctor again in a month. I think he will give me pills because it's my second one. :(

      Don’t stop taking your meds.
All epilepsy meds do increase risk of birth defects.
My current meds (lamotragine and keppra) haven’t effected baby.
      Call hospital to tell them.
It’s scary but the best thing you can do is continue with your meds.
The main med which dangerous is sodium valproate.
I don’t think yours is that risky. It’s often used during pregnancy.
The doctors should prescribe you with high dose folic acid.
      Try not to worry. X

If you take 5mg of folic acid the risk halves. X
