Super helpful! Thank you for making this video. I’m taking the bar this July (TX/UBE) and you just gave me the validation I need to stray from the Barbri PSP lol. ❤
My timings were Up at 7am - shower and eat breakfast, listen to music and watch a little tv 9am to 1pm study / 4 hours 1-2 lunch break 2pm to 6pm / 4 hours 6-8 dinner and tv time 9-11 3 hours study Sunday off I studied four months - 1056 hours and I creamed the bar exam - I mean I literally destroyed it - you have to make a schedule and stick to it - I switched my phone off and didn’t speak to anyone except my family - I focused and didn’t care about anyone or anything. I followed a simpler pattern to this lady in this video except I went through the materials first three months in depth and then just practiced every 6 days for a month is exam conditions and after I did my cycle I sat the exam with a one day gap - no studying day before exam I - ate light food, relaxed and got an early night prepacked and got up early and went to face the biggest battle of my life! You can do it too - just believe, keep to a routine and remember keep that phone off!!!!!!
Love to hear this!! This is why you killed the bar! Had a great routine, got rid of all distractions and stuck to your schedule. Super happy for you! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
hey .. thanks for this, i have no idea what i'm doing, i just graduated from law school. i haven't formed any study habits at all.. i'm scared .. i'm just blessed i passed the law school subjects. now the problem lies on how to start the real studying for bar exam. thanks a lot really.. T_T
Hi Denise, I didn't see in your videos or schedule time blocked for studying outlines. Did you just jump into questions without studying/memorizing outlines? I am struggling with spending too much time viewing and studying lectures, and by the end of the day, I am exhausted, and I don't even feel like I remember all that much even though I am doing active studying, meaning I am taking notes and really listening. Any advice you have on how to memorize outlines would be hugely appreciated. Thank you, Nina
Hi Denise. So, I'm using Barbri since my school provided it for us and I'm not sure if you're familiar with it but barbri has lecture videos that lay out all the law for the subjects (I'm CA). The lectures are usually separated into 2 videos scheduled one day after the other (the videos can be up to around 5 hours long each). For example, I have gone over evidence, con law, and have just now finished contracts over the past 2 weeks. You mention that we should 'study less, practice more' by doing active studying like mbe sets/essays/PT's but my concern is, by practicing more aren't we essentially just learning from our mistakes? Say I do 100 torts mbe and get 38/100, I have to review the reasoning and rules on the questions I got wrong to learn. What do you say on the video lectures that explain the reasoning of the law? Personally, I find myself always getting distracted and often 'bored' while watching the lectures which could be the whole passive studying you mentioned. I suppose what I'm trying to get at is, wouldn't you need to have a foundation for 'practicing' by 'studying' the subject first? Also, you mentioned flashcards as part of your 'passive studying' at the end of the day, does this include memorizing rules verbatim? And when did you have time to write down the rules? I'll be sure to email you to take a look at your study schedule because I honestly don't feel like I'm learning that much with what barbri is scheduling me.
Read first on your review material then pre test then watch lecture then post test .. Tomorrow follow up test then read for another subject then pre test then lecture and so on Combine passive and actife studying
Appreciate this and glad you found these tips helpful! Will be posting more bar prep tip videos in the coming months leading into the July exam as well. Stay tuned!
I believe your method is superb especially the order in reviewing the essay. I thought about that but I can’t give myself an assured answer. Could you please confirm why reading the model answers first before you start to outline and type your answer?
Completely agree with you here! The sample answers shouldn’t be seen as “bible” per se. In some instances there can be missed issues and whatnot. But what it does show is what the graders are generally looking for and the main issues to hit in that particular fact pattern. It’s a good starting point if you’re completely lost in how to answer an essay question. This is why it’s so important to read A LOT of the sample answers so you can craft your own essay attack outlines. Just my opinion though and what also helped me! 😁🙏🏽
Hi!! Thank you so much for sharing these great tips. I will be taking the CA bar next year and feel like I’ve forgotten so much. How did you deal with learning the black letter law/rule statements without going through all the long lectures? Thanks again!!
Hi Kathy! Appreciate your support on the channel :) Wishing you best of luck on the CBX next year -- you got this!! As far as learning the BLL / rule statements, I did a mix of learning and memorizing by creating my own Essay schemas and MBE rule sheets. I discuss this further in another video where I talk about the Resources I used to pass the bar exam. Hope this helps! 🤗 The Resources I used to pass the Bar Exam: ua-cam.com/video/K_UpYPflL38/v-deo.html
Thanks very much for your video! Quick question- when did you take the time to actually learn the material/ write your outlines? I’m doing Barbri now and most of the time is spent with me watching lecture videos. Thanks!
Hi Steven! I studied my outlines in the 3rd shift of my day (I.e, after I was done doing active studying like essays/MBES). So I used this time to work on more passive studying while my brain was winding down and reviewing my answers from the essays/MBEs.
Sorry, I have additional question. I’m doing MBE practice. You mentioned you do 100 MBE’s, don’t you write down your right and wrong answers? That takes me so much time! I couldn’t get through 100 MBEs!
Hi Fatelia! Are you sitting in for the CA Bar exam or another state? Absolutely, what's your email and will shoot you over a copy. FYI - I'll be posting more bar prep tips in the coming months leading into the exam. So stay tuned and best of luck with your studies!
Thanks for the great video! Just to be clear, for the month 2, if a day is for contract and torts, do the 100 MBE questions and 4 essays only deal with these two subjects? or are you do mixed questions for all other subjects? Thank you!
Appreciate the support here! For month 2, I would do a mix of all the MBEs every day. For the essay subjects, I would do 2 contracts and 2 torts (from your example above). So I would split the essays into the 2 subjects I was reviewing that day.
Thanks! that's very helpful. I am curious though, how did you prepare your outlines? I am preparing them as I solve MBE and Essay questions, but that takes up a lot of time. This means I am not able to solve as many questions as I would have liked to, as I am spending a lot of time learning from the answers. Do let me know if you have any suggestions! thanks
So happy you’re finding this helpful! As far as book recs, the only one I used during actual bar prep was Strategies & tactics by Emanuel for the MBE portion. I also talk more about the resources I used during bar prep here: ua-cam.com/video/K_UpYPflL38/v-deo.html Hope this helps!!
When you did active studying sessions, how did you develop the foundation to do the problems? Did you squeeze in video lectures before or just jump right in?
When did you have time to practice Performance Tests? I feel that is my weakness and I’m not sure if didn’t hear you mention where you squeezed PT’s in during month one?🙊
For the 2nd month I was doing a mix of all the MBE subjects. But of course, if you feel weak in a certain subject, I’d focus on that and maybe do like 50 Qs subject specific then the other 50 mix. Up to you though! Best of luck 🙏🏽
@swaggyesq, hi Denise, I hope all is well. May I obtain a copy of your outlines and templates of each tested subjects. I’m studying for July bar. Working full time . Thank you!
Hi! Yes, for the 1st month of bar prep my main focus was to go through each subject 1x and split it into 2 days. The 2nd month of bar prep, I went through each subject again but this time twice for a total of 3x by the end of bar prep. Also, I have a downloadable PDF attachment with my daily and monthly schedule broken down. If you're interested in a copy, feel free to send me your email! :)
