Yup that is what I was looking for lol. All of these additions, if it still over heats. I will just stick with my hero 9 and 10. My 9 doesn't really have a overheating issue versus my 10.

I am done with GoPro just because of the heat and freze issues. My first GoPro was the Hero 7 Black than it just ceased to work with no reason. One day I try to turn it on and it was just dead. I bought another Hero 7 Black in second hand and then it just frezes after a few seconds of working. The salvation on that day is I had the Osmo Action with me. No nore GoPro for me if they still have that issues on the newer GoPro versions. Expensive cameras turned into junk after some use. Now I have two Hero 7 Black to sell for parts if someone want them or I will put them awy to recycle or film myself destroying them with a hammer or smashing them with my car passing over them. And I have the Karma Grip that actually works but another useless piece of technology that can't be used with other sport cameras to sell if someone want it. But comparing the image quality of the Osmo 3 with the GoPro 11 I think the GoPro 11 wins! but... I don't want the GoPro 11 because I can bet it still have heat and frezing issues like the previous GoPro junk!
Excited about the 10-bit!!! 🔥 I can already get really good results with my GoPro 10, people are surprised when they see my videos and realize it's a GoPro video so if i can get even better results with the 11, that's enough reason for me to get it! Thank you for the awesome review 👏

Hey David just to let you know, to quick switch using the buttons, you can hold the power button while hitting the shutter button. You don't need to quickly press one and then the other. PS if you do it in reverse it adds a highlight marker to your video but you probably already knew that.

In that regard, they have to watch what they say because if they say something bad about said product will be a breech of contract and there will be negative repercussions. However, a video that is not sponsored usually means the reviewer can say whatever the hall they want as they are not being paid and the manufacturer has no say on the review
As a diver who wears 7mm gloves in NorCal, the addition of a third button on the top would result in clicking the wrong button on my GoPro mounted on top of my dive mask. Which would ultimately mean a lot of missed footage.
FINALLY! So glad they let you change the aspect ratio! That’s why I use the Insta360 Go 2 is because of that aspect change freedom. So glad to see this with a GoPro
Hey David, I LOVE my Snap Mounts and thank you so much for introducing them to us. Since you have an " IN " with them, can you suggest they make on that fits a GoPro with a MediaMod...I (and I am sure others) would PAY for that! (yes, I know I can use it and my camera is just a bit offset, but it would be nice to have that nice, flat mount so it's easier to work the GoPro controls on the back screen.)
Genuinely replied to your message on the Osmo action video as I got the notification for the upload of this video :D. So the Hero 11! I Absolutely love the 8x7 square, seems like they've learned a thing or two from Insta360 with the variation in content publishing requirements. The audio versus the Osmo action is miles apart, the Osmo 3 is just the next level! The preview issue is a big one, I hope they can resolve it with patents etc. As its the reason I use my Insta360 more often! I feel a little disappointed that they haven't changed the form factor to allow for a fully blown 1 inch sensor, however it was one of the biggest complaints for everyone I know because of batteries from older cameras not being able to be used and gather dust. However I feel like GoPro have been tactical because in keeping the Hero 11 form factor and the leaks of increased camera options coming from them. My speculation is that there is something newer on the horizon that does fill that void but is a new addition to the fleet instead of a change to the flagship camera.
I love Snap Mounts. Doing backpacking and back-country videos I have them on my chest pack, trekking poles, Ulanzi mini flex, windshield mounts. I have never had one come off of any of the applications, and I climb over rocks under trees etc. I will however be holding off on buying the 11 until we stop "Building back better" ;) Thanks again for the review, the new ops look interesting.

Okay, two things: First, how have I not heard about the lens being removeable on the 10 and 11?! And No. 2, shooting in 10-bit color and an almost square aspect ratio is pretty awesome. Wow!
For usability in the water, as you pointed out, the DJI Osmo mode button is great. I love the GoPro Hero 10, but switching modes is a pain. I pre ordered the DJI Osmo Action 3 because it can go deeper without a case, the mode button, a longer battery life, as you can't safely replace the batteries on a wet camera at the beach.
David, are u going to do a "favorite settings" list for like sunny days, and low light, like you did a few gopro's ago? Those were very helpful. I also hope you do a rendering video where you show how to render your video before you upload them to UA-cam. Thanks for all you do. Your videos are extremely helpful!!
12:53 more megapixels contributes to more heat too... they really need to focus on video and not photos or just make two different cameras. As Sony has shown 12mp is all you need for outstanding videos.
Great review David. I find Snap Mounts work very well except when used with the lanyard under a T-shirt when there is too much movement while walking. I would love to see a video on low light performance compared with the Hero 10.
You know what would be very useful is a video on using the bluetooth connection with GoPro Quik. Especially with multiple GoPros. Trying to stay connected (lost connection) when on the move is always disappointing. Have to believe there is a better way!
Hey David, I was wondering if you can do a low light video test? I record my arena soccer games in so-so lighting, for years with the GoPro Hero 4 Black! I use the 1080p Linear 30fps setting. Seems to be the optimal setting for this older action camera in my location, even though the videos show lots of pixels. Hopefully the new larger sensor can draw more light into the videos.
The way camera technology on phones this day, there is no point of getting gopro unless you do a bunch of videos underwater. Take a look at iPhone 14 pro. Not only you get a phone, but you get a camera that is pretty much the same level as mirror less camera. I saw a UA-cam who compare gopro 11 and iPhone 14pro. It's a night and day difference on image video quality, especially at night. Iphone really nailed the stabilization on the 14pro. Plus the fact you can get up to 1tb storage and pro res editing in the phone itself. And a few clicks away to post on social media. It's what I call total package
The 10-bit color really shines in the comparison with the Osmo Action 3 video. Did you see that shot with the sun in the background? Massive difference there between 8-bit and 10-bit!
The 11 looks pretty cool feature wise. Would be nice if Gopro brought back a desktop suite though. For users that like utilizing the telemetry features. Being stuck to adding that only on your phone, wasting time and battery life of your phone to render that there, then move it to the PC to do actual post work. It's unnecessary. At the very least, Gopro should make a plugin for Adobe if they're too lazy to bring back a desktop app. The only option we have right now is 3rd party options that charge $100 or more. Which is ridiculous lol
I'll tell you my pet peeve for the entire gopro lineup. Having a physical press button, that requires some degree of force, to take a photo, INSURES camera shake. It would not be that difficult to provide a shutter button on the back screen, Or a touch sensitive button on the camera. I find I need to set the 3 second timer, to press the button, then stabilize, or, Use voice commands. And sometimes neither is a real solution. Just give me a simple, touch surface button. Even if it was in addition to the other 2.
10 bit in this camera is not super important, it is hard to get extra gains out of 8bit/10bit if the sensor is too small to use a properly fat log profile. But I think you got a Sony and know this. (There are also a few great camera comparisons between the DJI mini 3 pro 8bit vs 10bit, and they had to use massively underexposed images to find tiny differences in the image when looking at the histogram). I am pretty sure I am going to be sticking with my action 2 (big sensor, tiny camera, great mounting system) till we get a quadbayer hdr action camera, or something that has a big enough sensor and low enough aperture to finally make an AF system a necessity. Cameras around the 1/2inch mark at f2.8 have kind of reached their limit since the gp8 I feel as it pertains to image quality.
I think they can add the feature you want for the menus in the software, because they can add another click inside the first menu, and make people select the other setting inside the first more generic one, maybe this way they can add that feature! I had the the Hero 9, 10. But lost them on a bike ride and left the Volta. Which started using as a remote on my Max. Well I almost pulled the trigger on the insta 360 X3 since. At lest the Volta will work with the hero 11. Thanks for helping me make a consumer choices.
Damn David you are really selling me on those Snap mounts. I’d be so sold on the 11 for the colors & that horizon leveling if my 10 wasn’t so new already. I think I need to do use it enough to accidentally break it before I get a new one. 🤣 How does that new sensor perform in low light? Also does the max lens still only do 2.7K on the 11? I just wish they’d let us custom name the settings already.
If you've got a GoPro, Snap Mounts makes like a whole lot easier! And YES! Oh my goodness Caprica, that's something I've been wanting for so long! Since we have an app connected, they should let us be able to go in and type names for our own presets! Low light performance test coming in next week's comparison video to the Osmo Action 3👍 And same on the 2.7K max lens. I think it has something to do with the physics of the physical lens and how it's positioned in relation to the sensor.
I wish those snap mounts had the magnets on the bottom. I hate how that thick plastic kind of blocks the touchscreen. I mean it doesn't really block it but makes it super uncomfortable. If it were on the bottom the back wouldn't be blocked at all.
I want to try the snap mounts. I use Ulanzi Quick release mounts now. Just cause price point they work well to move from place to place quickly. These just look more secure cause I have had one pop off my tripod before. I have the max lens mod but it makes funny halos in sun. So it would be great not to have to use that.
The Snap Mounts are so good guys! Especially now that they added the locking adapter to their lineup. That one makes me feel a whole lot better when I have a GoPro mounted outside the van for a cool shot🤣
Can you make a video showing the interior of a home moving from room to room? I am into real estate video blogs, and the lighting is always an issue with my Gopro 9. 😀Great Video
You say "UA-cam compression makes it a bit tough to see the difference" of 8 to 10 bits. So... if one is thinking 10 bits will make your YT videos any better... well... Hope one day YT will bring this improvement to our life because 93.8% of recorded videos end up here.

Snap mounts - I know its not too narly, but do you reckon they would hold up for skydiving? Other people bumping into it and up to 350 km/h? would be cool if they would be suitable, looks amazing.

Scrolled thru much of the comments and didn't see any regarding time lapses. What format is the output? Does it have the option to take individual stills for later post processing? And can you zoom in time lapse mode? Other questions I have, does this have HDMI output? And finally, are you able to charge in camera while in use? Any info would be awesome and appreciated.
The overheating probs of the Go Pros has always been their achilles heel while my original Osmo Action just works that's why I've been using it for 3 years now and I'm looking to upgrade,I'm just looking forward to see the direct comparisons.

Now ..you mentioned something about the reason for not having that function WAS a legal case and you correct ..!! I have links to that legal case ...and you know what ???' GOPRO won ..!!! yes as in " Gopro wins the case " no copy right infringement . If I turn on 10bit, I can't play it on my phone (has a big exclamation point), the audio is fine but black screen. But it can export on my capcut and it works fine. btw, I have a GalaxyA53

Have you used the pro usb mic adapter? Mine won’t use the mic with it. Charges through it no issues but doesn’t detect the mic. Plug back into a 7 black and works without issue

But how awesome would it be if that third button was on the side and while underwater you were able to easily flip between different settings?

Can it record 10 bits? Can it record with higher FPS than 25/30?

12:53 more megapixels contributes to more heat too... they really need to focus on video and not photos or just make two different cameras. As Sony has shown 12mp is all you need for outstanding videos.
Bought the Snap Mounts after seeing one of your videos a couple years ago and love them!
My biggest con.. no rear mic. It makes narrating from behind nearly impossible. It forces you have to buy a media mod or some other audio device(s).
Great review David. I find Snap Mounts work very well except when used with the lanyard under a T-shirt when there is too much movement while walking.
I would love to see a video on low light performance compared with the Hero 10.
You know what would be very useful is a video on using the bluetooth connection with GoPro Quik. Especially with multiple GoPros. Trying to stay connected (lost connection) when on the move is always disappointing. Have to believe there is a better way!
Hey David, I was wondering if you can do a low light video test? I record my arena soccer games in so-so lighting, for years with the GoPro Hero 4 Black!
I use the 1080p Linear 30fps setting. Seems to be the optimal setting for this older action camera in my location, even though the videos show lots of pixels.
Hopefully the new larger sensor can draw more light into the videos.

The way camera technology on phones this day, there is no point of getting gopro unless you do a bunch of videos underwater. Take a look at iPhone 14 pro. Not only you get a phone, but you get a camera that is pretty much the same level as mirror less camera. I saw a UA-cam who compare gopro 11 and iPhone 14pro. It's a night and day difference on image video quality, especially at night. Iphone really nailed the stabilization on the 14pro. Plus the fact you can get up to 1tb storage and pro res editing in the phone itself. And a few clicks away to post on social media. It's what I call total package

The 10-bit color really shines in the comparison with the Osmo Action 3 video. Did you see that shot with the sun in the background? Massive difference there between 8-bit and 10-bit!

The 11 looks pretty cool feature wise.
Would be nice if Gopro brought back a desktop suite though. For users that like utilizing the telemetry features. Being stuck to adding that only on your phone, wasting time and battery life of your phone to render that there, then move it to the PC to do actual post work. It's unnecessary.
At the very least, Gopro should make a plugin for Adobe if they're too lazy to bring back a desktop app.
The only option we have right now is 3rd party options that charge $100 or more. Which is ridiculous lol
I'll tell you my pet peeve for the entire gopro lineup.
Having a physical press button, that requires some degree of force, to take a photo, INSURES camera shake.
It would not be that difficult to provide a shutter button on the back screen,
Or a touch sensitive button on the camera.
I find I need to set the 3 second timer, to press the button, then stabilize,
or,
Use voice commands.
And sometimes neither is a real solution.
Just give me a simple, touch surface button.
Even if it was in addition to the other 2.
10 bit in this camera is not super important, it is hard to get extra gains out of 8bit/10bit if the sensor is too small to use a properly fat log profile. But I think you got a Sony and know this. (There are also a few great camera comparisons between the DJI mini 3 pro 8bit vs 10bit, and they had to use massively underexposed images to find tiny differences in the image when looking at the histogram).
I am pretty sure I am going to be sticking with my action 2 (big sensor, tiny camera, great mounting system) till we get a quadbayer hdr action camera, or something that has a big enough sensor and low enough aperture to finally make an AF system a necessity. Cameras around the 1/2inch mark at f2.8 have kind of reached their limit since the gp8 I feel as it pertains to image quality.

I think they can add the feature you want for the menus in the software, because they can add another click inside the first menu, and make people select the other setting inside the first more generic one, maybe this way they can add that feature! I had the the Hero 9, 10. But lost them on a bike ride and left the Volta. Which started using as a remote on my Max. Well I almost pulled the trigger on the insta 360 X3 since. At lest the Volta will work with the hero 11. Thanks for helping me make a consumer choices.

And YES! Oh my goodness Caprica, that's something I've been wanting for so long! Since we have an app connected, they should let us be able to go in and type names for our own presets!

And same on the 2.7K max lens. I think it has something to do with the physics of the physical lens and how it's positioned in relation to the sensor.

I wish those snap mounts had the magnets on the bottom. I hate how that thick plastic kind of blocks the touchscreen. I mean it doesn't really block it but makes it super uncomfortable. If it were on the bottom the back wouldn't be blocked at all.
I'm not sure they could fit those four beefy magnets on the bottom🤷♂

I think if you change the orientation to “all” , it will keep the Horizon level any way you turn the camera…
I want to try the snap mounts. I use Ulanzi Quick release mounts now. Just cause price point they work well to move from place to place quickly. These just look more secure cause I have had one pop off my tripod before. I have the max lens mod but it makes funny halos in sun. So it would be great not to have to use that.
The Snap Mounts are so good guys! Especially now that they added the locking adapter to their lineup. That one makes me feel a whole lot better when I have a GoPro mounted outside the van for a cool shot🤣

You say "UA-cam compression makes it a bit tough to see the difference" of 8 to 10 bits. So... if one is thinking 10 bits will make your YT videos any better... well... Hope one day YT will bring this improvement to our life because 93.8% of recorded videos end up here.

Great video as always. Insta360 is killing the GoPro. I’ve owned many GoPros going all the way back to the original but, Insta360 is where action cameras are at now!
Snap mounts - I know its not too narly, but do you reckon they would hold up for skydiving? Other people bumping into it and up to 350 km/h? would be cool if they would be suitable, looks amazing.
With their locking mount, you could 100% skydive! Maybe I'll do that next time they want to sponsor a video!

Scrolled thru much of the comments and didn't see any regarding time lapses. What format is the output? Does it have the option to take individual stills for later post processing? And can you zoom in time lapse mode? Other questions I have, does this have HDMI output? And finally, are you able to charge in camera while in use? Any info would be awesome and appreciated.
The overheating probs of the Go Pros has always been their achilles heel while my original Osmo Action just works that's why I've been using it for 3 years now and I'm looking to upgrade,I'm just looking forward to see the direct comparisons.

Now ..you mentioned something about the reason for not having that function WAS a legal case and you correct ..!! I have links to that legal case ...and you know what ???' GOPRO won ..!!! yes as in " Gopro wins the case " no copy right infringement .
But then ??? why they don't bring that feature back ??? since it is one of the biggest features since the 10 bit colour !!! and the answer is very simple . We wont see the LIVE PREVIEW - while recording in 4K - BECAUSE GOPRO 11 , 10 , 9 , ECT " will burn to cinders " .

If I turn on 10bit, I can't play it on my phone (has a big exclamation point), the audio is fine but black screen. But it can export on my capcut and it works fine. btw, I have a GalaxyA53

Have you used the pro usb mic adapter? Mine won’t use the mic with it. Charges through it no issues but doesn’t detect the mic. Plug back into a 7 black and works without issue
