I got to play a Vectrex at a local shop a few weeks back. Pretty damn cool. $200 not so cool. Wish I could buy it but too much.

Toguro Can't be done. You can't replicate the look of vector graphics on a modern display. It's a very unique technology and tube manufacturing is long dead.

Vectrex designs have been released publicly, so all the info needed to build one can be found easily.
      The problem is the display.
you need a CRT for this to work. a Vector display just doesn't look right on an LCD panel.
You might be able to get a very rough approximation, but it wouldn't look right.
You basically had to remember that the vectrex worked by letting programmers have direct control over the electron beam in a CRT tube.
Televisions didn't work this way, and neither do modern monitors. (however, old radar displays and oscilloscopes did.)
There's no pixels. Just lines. But... LCD displays are defined by their pixels...
So, yeah. No Cathode Ray Tubes = no new vectrex systems.
Or... At best, some rather poor approximations of a vectrex display that only looks somewhat like it.

And it's not just a typical CRT computer monitor; it's specifically vector graphics monitors like on an oscilloscope.

The Vectrex opened the eyes of mortals to a land beyond this plane, a land of salvation and enlightenment. May The Vectrex forever dwell in the mortal world.

The only thing keeping the VECTREX away from beeing the most amazing console ever is the lack of GUNSTAR HEROES!

I think the world is ready for a Vectrex 2 with some sort of video-out for recording.
Or without the video-out. Let's just get a Vectrex 2.

does it take alot if cpu power to display vector graphics?

Almost? This thing is from 1982!

Not particularly, but it takes special display hardware.
From a 1970s-80s perspective, the advantage of vector graphics was that you could do really impressive things without a lot of CPU power. But it would only work if you had a physical vector CRT--simulating that on a raster display would make all the vectors look jagged. These days, of course, it's possible to do much better at emulating a vector monitor on a modern raster screen, but the look isn't ever 100% right--a real vector display could make really bright lines with all sorts of weird halation effects when the brightness was really jacked up.
