- Classic Game Room HD reviews SCRAMBLE for Vectrex from 1982, developed by Konami and manufactured by GCE. Scramble was originally released in the arcades in 1981 and made its way to a few game systems including the Commodore 64 and the almighty Vectrex. This Vectrex side scrolling old school SHMUP has amazing gameplay and is addictive and fun. Shoot enemies but be careful not to run out of fuel! It's like River Raid mixed with Vanguard, a side scrolling space ship shooter which stands the test of time and remains a true classic. Developed by Konami, who is known for their popular and awesome Gradius series, Scramble can also be purchased for XBLA / Xbox 360 these days. Vectrex collectors will enjoy the colorful overlay and responsive controls, try and use a non-broken Vectrex controller for those tight spots. This CGR review of Scramble from Konami for Vectrex has Scramble gameplay showing this retro old school vector graphics space ship shooter in action!!
2021 and this is still absolutely incredible!
2022 now.
2023 now!
2024 nOw!¡
So many hours of my childhood with this game!
same man, scramble still a great game 2019 :)
😀😀😀
Same here. Loved it.
Vectrex is a hell of inovated, underrated and AWESOME console
It's awesome to play and see it in person. I tried the vectrex out for the first time 6 years ago and it was amazing. The vector lines are so clear.
I can't afford a vectrex because the price is high on crack. I emulate it on RetroPie and have a great time.
hell of an* innovated*,
@@DarthVader1977 When we last met I was but a learner, Now I am the master
@@marccaselle8108 its just not the same though,
It's amazing this bad-boy still works after all these years.
Just plug it in, press the power button and bang, you're back in the 1980s.
Yup...you said it; the awesome responsiveness, and smoothness of gameplay is one of the big things I remember about Vectrex. Was an awesome, yet somewhat obscure, little system.
the intro to this channel man... it just brings back simpler times
Scramble needs a sequel. ON THE VECTREX.
Love the Vector Graphics! To eBay I go, got to have myself a Vectrex!
Yeah, I hope it's cheap and in good condition
hell YES for extended CGR theme music!
Just from Scramble, you can see the awesome potential in pre-NES Konami which led to the legendary Contra and Gradius games. Thank you for this review. For me being an early 80s child, this was an easy 5 stars + fave. :)
Back when your channel was my favorite.
I had this game and console. Got it as a Christmas present and many hours were spent playing this great game!
This brings back so many good memories. The best of which is the sound of Scramble which used to drive my parents insane.
I had to get rid of mine back in the 80s because I was addicted .
lovin' the old CGR intro music.
This was the first ever game i played...i used to be so good i could hug the bottom of the screen and just bomb everything. One of my all time favs....ahhh the memories
One of my favourite games of all time
I had one of these when I was a kid. I would love to get another one. I had damn near every game too. Such an awesome gaming system.
I played this in 1983 in a local video rental store in Finland, had soo much fun...
I lost all of my Vectrex stuff along with the all the rest of my things in a house fire many years ago. I am now able to start getting my Vectrex stuff back. Scramble was my favorite game and I can't wait to be playing it again. :-)
God, this brings back memories
Picking one up tomorrow. Looking forward to trying it out :)
I love the glow coming off of everything! Great review! Pity I don't have a Vectrex lol!
this was my favorite game on the vectrex
Played vetrex today. It was awesome. As awesome as i remember it being from my childhood.
Scramble is one of my favorite arcade games. I probably dropped $1500 of my parents quarters between 1981 and 1985. This port looks awesome.
I like that sound that it makes when you turn it out. That's how a video game should sound :)
Awwww.. The 80's ... Makes me wanna watch "FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH" !!
man I am a call of Duty player but u brought the old school out of me . I got addicted by watching.
I love how Gradius and Metal Gear Solid 4 are used as examples of Konami games in the same sentence and held together in the same hand. Games from generations as different as those are rarely compared so casually.
I played this game like million times on my Vectrex as a kid. Seeing this makes me wanna get my old Vectrex out of my storage.
awesome! I want one of this!
I loved my Vectrex. A couple years ago I was looking around my old basement while visiting my mom and asked where it had gone... she threw it out 😞 Scramble, Narzod, Rip Off, Solaris, Armor Attack, Cosmic Chasm, Blitz, Spike, Hyperchase, Berserk, so many great memories GONE.
I have an original Scramble machine, and this is a surprisingly faithful rendition. Trying to navigate the maze section without a working joystick sounds like it'd be impossible.
I got to play one in the 80's courtesy of Pat, a friend of my dads. Left quite an impression.
Great port and best home port of Scramble, and it's nice to know that new games are still coming out for the Vectrex. Since 1998 the Vectrex has gotten GOOD ports of Frogger, Pac-Man, Defender, and Donkey Kong, among other games!
So great! I played it in the middle of the 1980s.
1981. What a year. The golden age of video games. I used to play Scramble down at the Basketball Centre afer training or junior games plus whatever new arcade games were released like Donkey Kong, Dig Dug etc. Classics. At night time playing Scramble was awesome. 20c after 20 c. Things just didn't get better than since those early early days. Vortex I've never heard of. Prolly better than pinball though.
I love this guy! Keep up the good work Mark.
My first touched arcade machine... Legend!
This is my favorite game on my Vectrex. Just a note to Lord Karnage, your strategy on the final level is you need to push the ship all the way to the right and then come back down at an angle to hit them tight corners ...;)
I love vectors.
I want a Vectrex now. I know I'd barely play it. But I want one.
Great Review man! Watching your reviews are like acheiving an accomplishment.... so fresh and simple!
Great review Mark. Scrambe definitely is a fun and addictive game in the arcade and on the Vectrex.
Much love for the Vectrex! I like how Mark dances to the music with the controller at 2:38.
Ahh! There's an extended version of the old CGR theme song in this video! I've never heard anything other than the short version.
I still have this game! :)
This game looks hell fun, and the audio is excellent too, is incredible how messed up the sound effects can be in games nowadays
Got vectrex when it first came out. Only one in my neighborhood. Bought it at TOY R US !!! Great game and came with the monitor. Finally had to return it parentscsaid I was addicted to it AND I WAS!!! It was that school thingy that I had to go to. Good times while they lasted. Great graphics.
Just got my Vectrex with 8 games cant wait!
this takes me way back even though i never played it, it reminds me of the early atari and ti-99/4a days where it was exciting just to see graphics and hear computer sounds from your tv....
A blast from the past
Why did i watch this? I must buy a Vectrrex now! Thanks for giving me more ways to spend money i don't have!
I am 31 years younger again.... Thankyou 😁
Once again, just awesome!
Vectrex is your favorite system. You mention it in almost every review nowadays,
The condition of that box is amazing.
I just had the chance to play Scramble on the vectrex. It´s a massive throwback to the past. I can´t agree more with the review, it´s a perfect sample of a simple idea expertly translated to the screen. A pure retro gem. I´m even looking for a Vectrex machine to buy just for this game.
Boxes on chopsticks - haha! I always thought they looked like transistors. :)
The Vectrex is back with the ultimate gaming technology!!!
The vectrex looks ridiculously awesome.
Another awesome Vectrex review!
My brother's and I constantly played Vectrex
Nice port, the level layout is pretty faithful to the arcade
so many memories
Man, i remember playing on this thing ... specially liked the starwars game
I need this @___@
Scramble, Berzek and Solar Quest LOOKS AWESOME!
OMG you just took me back to my childhood. It aost brought me to tears. How can I get one?
I had this system and this game in the 80's around the same time I owned a sega master system . . . Classic stuff!
Love this machine.
I want a vectrex so expensive. So ahead of its time.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, THEY ARE AWESOME
I had the vectrex, loved it. Somehow I broke the joystic and played it for years with the sharp piece of metal sticking out. Loved scramble and almost lost my mind playing it, lol. Unfortunately i sold the vectrex at a garage sale for $10 back in the mid 80s!
Sad thing is, you can unscrew the head from any RC joystick and screw it onto the Vectrex's
So sharp, so phosphorescant,
so arcade, so vectrex!
So 80’s ! 😋
Damn, that game looks good!
I like this game, I've never owned a Vectrex, but now I want one. I'm assuming these systems were available in Australia when they were new, but I wasn't even alive in 1982, so I don't know.
DejaVu i love this game i play this on my PSP all the time got it on a Modded PSP slim
BTW, that overlay is the one I usually leave on my Vectrex 24/7. I love the retro look.
looks like a fun game. I'm impressed for a 1982 game.
looks amazing...you guys are so lucky
I played this game system day and night in mid 80's, my friend visited me more because this.......
I used to take the controler apart and use a stanless tie wire my dad had in the garage and make new springs for my controller.
thnks for the vid, i have very good memories of this game and the Vectrex, too bad the company had problem that time
youre reviews are AWSOME!!
OMG Vectrex is aweome as hell.
Saudade dos tempos do arcade e dos gráficos vetoriais.
Oh man 13 years ago 😮💨😵💫
You can see the vector graphics scanning, since it's not rasterized.
(It's pretty much an Oscilliscope that plays games.)
Looks like a side scrolling Xevious... Awesome!
Innovative for the time. Cool stuff.
Same here for the arcade classics collection on the GBA.
I think I remember something like this in "Midway Arcade Treasures"....
Looks fun! Great review.
"pew pew pew pew", the way all lasers should sound and the vectrex gets it right! :)
This was the pioneer game of its time. Besides Gradius, it was the inspiration for other great arcade classics such as Super Cobra and Cosmic Avenger.
muito bonito.. principalmente com o overlay
Never thought I’d See this
I want one of these!
woooow awesome console I didn't know it !!
One of the cool things about the Vectrex is that it can pump out some serous volume. :)
STAY AWESOME! :)
I like to play Scramble and other Vectrex space games with the purple Spike overlay. I don't care much for that game, but the purple color looks great, gives kind of an ethereal feel to the space shoot'em ups.
