This was beyond inspiring! Most definitely made me appreciate Macklemore's artistry on a wider scale. It's amazing to see someone work so hard and get so far as indie artist when the odds are stacked against you in this business. As a writer this was a great reinforcement that the road may be long but with a constant dedication and commitment to your craft you will begin to grow. Staying true to what you believe will take you such a long way. Favorited this video so anytime I'm feeling like my hard work is going unnoticed I'll have this as a reference. You did an excellent job Jabari.
Hey Shyann, I really appreciate it. Glad you found inspiration in my film. I hope you can share it with your friends and subscribe because there is more on the way!
well Macklemore and Ryan Lewis you guys just won 4 grammys you should feel very Proud and accomplished for all the hard work and dedication you have done. you inspire me so much Thanks Guys
Not hating just curious. I am Norwegian and I live in seattle. Bitch you didn't know Seattle has a huge Norwegian culture living in an area called Ballard about 5 minutes away from the Space Needle
tennismediadynamics I love that with the lyrics and the way he sings it you can feel that he has either experienced or really really cares about what he sings about. Like for an example in otherside. The way he's able to express and explain what it's like and really make you see what it was like for him is truly amazing. And even after all he's been through he's still able to almost always have a smile on his face. The most awesome thing about him is that if he wanted to he could sign up with the biggest labels around yet he still commits to doing it his way. He's so real and true and makes songs about exactly what he wants. And he's not scared to take chances like he did with same love,
4:32 This is our city, town pride, heart, blood, sweat, tears, I-5, North, South side, vibe, live, ride down these city blocks, and never will be stopped. My favorite line by Macklemore. I pretty much live on I-5. Great documentary
There's something extremely admirable about these grassroots artists. The song "Same Love" is what brought me here. I wish big things for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
I just bought "The Heist" this week and I am very impressed with it. Greatest album I have listened to in a while and I can't stop listening to it. After watching this documentary, I am even more blown away by the work of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
This video is nothing short of inspirational. Reminds us that in order to get somewhere in life as in passion, career or money, we NEED to make a sacrafice and to never give up. Respect
"Dedication, Sacrifice and Believing in yourself" -these are things we hear all the time. But, few of us put those words into action.” - Jabari - Beautifully said!
As an aspiring journalist watching doc's like this are what gives me the inspiration to persue my dreams, no matter haw many times I hear that it's a dying industry. Jabari, you did a fantastic job in both coverage and delivering a huge impact emotionally. As someone who was a little skeptical of Macklemore at first, this has helped me see that he is one of the most genuine artists out there these days. Absolutely brilliant job. Keep it up.
I watched the first 25 seconds, and its already pretty amazing that he says he just wants his music to touch millions of people and give them something to connect to. Just to let you know, dude...you've done it.
So much respect for someone who can stand up and say "I am an addict". Am hooked on these two guys and this documentary is a very interesting and I look forward to getting to see them in the UK.
Sabari,I really gotta thank you for doing this. Macklemore and Ryan are the best duo in music Ive seen in a long time, and I really had absolutely no clue how much work has gone into making their dreams come true. It also gives a more realistic look into the hours musicians, especially starting musicians, put into getting their material noticed and out there. I think more people need to see this. Thank you.
I usually don't like rap at all but Macklemore and Ryan... How can you not love them? They are talented really living for their arts and you can feel it when they are on stage. They have a message to deliver, their songs have a meaning! They are truely amazing!
This was amazing! Thanks for making it. Macklemore, there's so much support for you from all my friends. We freaking love you, it's amazing that you're still independent, so inspirational. Thanks for all you do.
Never heard of Macklemore until my buddy forwarded me a link of the Thrift Shop video. After watching other videos, I've bought multiple other songs..Otherside and Wing$ are on repeat in my truck pretty much every day. Huge amount of respect for him. Great documentary.
I was at the Mariner's home opener when he played my oh my! and since then he has been my favorite music artist and a major influence on my life and recovery. Thank you Macklemore
I'm not saying this just because i'm a major fan of the two , but i met them in an Instore in Dublin and they are the two most genuine people in the world. They have changed my outlook on music , great documentary.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are both very well spoken people. They came to my hip hop class last year and spoke about the meaning and art behind it all, it was amazing. When you listen to them talk, you can hear their passion in what they do. Also, I'm so glad their putting Seattle on the map!
Macklemore has just breathed life back into real hip hop, when artist were all about "keeping it real" how much more real can you get. Big love for Macklemore from New Zealand.
Can't think of much that will keep me away. I have huge respect for people who go it alone and I know how hard it is as I spent about a 18 months helping out bands touring in the UK by driving for them/giving them somewhere to sleep/cooking etc etc etc.
I am a 51 year old classic rock music fan. Macklemore is the only rapper I listen to. His music has become so inspirational since he went to rehab. He doesn't tell it like it is but like it should be! Thrift Shop (I also shop at thrift stores) and Same Love are my favorite songs but I haven't heard any of his stuff I haven't liked. Kids should be encouraged to listen and to tell their friends to listen to his music. I would love to meet him and let him know how much I respect him. Peace Out!
What a great guy. I love the fact that he is so open about himself and just presents himself the way he is, un-corrupted and unaffected like the rest of the artists out there. It would be an honor to meet Macklemore someday :) #respect from australia!
Your views and edits are crazy man... I just finding that I love photography and film and editing.. You and Ryan Lewis are some inspirational dudes.. keep it up people are watching.
Jabari, man, this was great! This documentary was amazing! I respect Ryan&Macklemore alot more now. And this documentary taught me some valuable stuff on work ethic and how if you don't get signed it's not the end of the world....you just gotta work hard and strive and you will make it. Great work, man!
Seattle stand up!!! So much raw talent in the northwest its about damn time someone from the town gets on the map. Not to mention these boys are keeping it REALLY real unlike most of TV and the radios garbage. Keep doin yalls thing... Mad respect
Love to see this amount of hard work. Major props to the two of your for proving that hard work pays off! Don't ever give in to a major label. The quality will go in the trash completely. Corporations will dilute your art no matter how hard you try to keep it pure.
Keep the documentaries coming! Real inspirational, makes me want to keep putting 110 percent into what I believe in and what I want to do no matter what I have to sacrifice.
Macklemore is absolutely amazing. If anyone deserves to be famous I would it should be him. He puts so much time and effort in his music, and his life in general that he deserves it all. He is a true inspiration.
I'm glad Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are independent doing everything themselves. Putting real hard work into what you do like that and not hiring other people to take care of everything for them makes this music that much better and it reflects in his writing.
I sooooo agree! He is soo deep! I can not get enough of him! He really makes me believe in myself and it is amazing to have a person like Macklemore who talks about real life stuff. It is worth listening to all of his stuff, all the way back to 'Open Your Eyes", when he called himself Professor Macklemore.
thank you for this. i hope this gets a lot of publicity. I've only recently found macklemore and ryan but can all ready call myself a big fan of them and now a big fan of your work :D
Yea, really couldn't have planned that it was just the stars aligning, we've known each other for a while but this was the time the world needed to see something from us
I will support Macklemore for as long as he keeps putting heart into the music, it's all any artist should strive to show to the people. Thank you for the Doc., it's hella good!!
macklemore you have inspired me to be who i am today you are the reason people wanna hear my story and i get your message of your music and i love your music
I have so much respect for Macklemore as well as Ryan Lewis! To see somebody who has had so many struggles in his life be such a hard worker and not give up on life is amazing! What an inspiring duo! The documentary was put together amazingly! Great work Jabari! P.S. Can you get me to meet Macklemore?! haha Just kidding!!
Wow Jabari! I was absolutely blown away by this documentary you made!! Such high production quality and just really well done! Ben and Ryan's story is so inspiring, their DIY and egoless attitude is one that needs to be adapted by more people in the industry. I liked them before this video but watching your video and seeing the passion first hand made me love them. I have so much respect for what they are doing and think it could totally change the industry.
REAL TALK....... My local station here in Detroit just started playing "Thrift Shop" so I can be honest I haven't heard of your music before then. But by looking up your music and listening I have to admit you are an awesome artist. BIG UPS to Jabari also! The documentary is heart touching and real! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS!
Whether they're underground or overground, speaking to me or millions of people I'll always love their songs. Because they speak truth, they speak to me and I don't want to hear anything else. They're just real.
Fantastic look into the hard work these guys have put in to make this dream a reality. I love his music and I had no idea what they put into it til I saw this. (Jabari) Great Job on the documentary, very inspiring!
Great document! U never rly think as rappers as Nice Guys but when you watch stuff like this, you get to see they're ppl too. Macklemore seems like a real nice guy. And he's rly brave for coming out and sayin he's an addict. He's probably gonna help people one day by sharing his own life expieriences. Well done :)
I can appreciate where they are coming from. Being true to your art is its own reward, but figuring out how to make it your business, is the icing on the cake! #MuchRespect
Shared it on facebook! Originally saw it from a friend who posted it on facebook, and then someone shared the video after I posted it! Your stuff is getting around!
This is Freaking Awesome! Ima fan now of Macklemore not only for the "Thrift Shop" song, lol! but bcuz I can relate to him in terms of recovery (taking your life back). I just pray that he stays positive & humble no matter what. God Bless You All!! Thanx Jabari for sharing this documentary & taking the time to do it. It is an inspiration not only for people who want to be rappers but for anyone who needs that little bit of motivation to keep their heads up & know that we all are somebody.
You captured JUST the right moment in their career before breaking through worldwide, and I can imagine that it was not that easy to get them for that. Great work, Jabari :)
Great documentary! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are a shining example of what hard work, diligence, and believing in yourself can accomplish. Your editing and commentary allowed those qualities to come through, while entertaining viewers. Congratulations!
I think it's pretty crazy that he is so down to earth and right there with everything that goes into his music. I wouldn't have guessed it by the "Thrift Shop" video, even though the lyrics reflect on this, but that's because I'm used to the most popular "musicians" saying anything in their music - mostly stuff that is far from the truth and far from their hearts. It's refreshing to see an artist who isn't just a puppet on strings for executives using them as monetary investments. Props man!
Funny how i just heard about him through somebody before Thrift Shop hit the radio, listened to all his & Ryan work. now i already got him in my top 10, great quality hip-hop right here

Really enjoyed this documentary! Love the truth this guy speaks, so down to earth! Would have been a great experience getting to do this with these guys.
One of the things that drew my eye to these guys was the fact they released their stuff independently. They weren't the "lucky few" that were found by a record label; they made success happen with their own sweat and tears. My goal is to become a working artist one day, and while animation is a different breed of art than music, watching them still inspires me. If they can be this successful on their own. I sure as hell can find a way to make money off my art.

That's the truth.

This is the reason why I love independent music. This whole documentary explains it all

Love to see this amount of hard work. Major props to the two of your for proving that hard work pays off! Don't ever give in to a major label. The quality will go in the trash completely. Corporations will dilute your art no matter how hard you try to keep it pure.
He is so magical. How could I live without his music? Dunno.
His lyrics are medicine for everything bad.

Saw Macklemore yesterday in San Diego! UNREAL.

Macklemore spits the truth. I listened to him since 10' jabari, thank you for posting this. Love it.

New Jabari Presents on the fist Monday of each Month, thanks Ricky!
Whether they're underground or overground, speaking to me or millions of people I'll always love their songs. Because they speak truth, they speak to me and I don't want to hear anything else. They're just real.
I like this interview, so real and raw. Exactly the type of interview I was looking for. Pure Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
We have a value village in my city, Mackelmore came to it when he had a concert here.
One of the few artists I have a huge amount of respect for.
Macklemore you are an absolute ledge. A sign of what a free mind can still do do in a confined world.
Fantastic look into the hard work these guys have put in to make this dream a reality. I love his music and I had no idea what they put into it til I saw this. (Jabari) Great Job on the documentary, very inspiring!
I got chills man....really love his music and i have alot of respect for Macklemore
I respect what you explain and mean in your songs. I respect you for who you are Macklemore!
Nice man ! Really got the chill and good vibes from this one ! Nice shots and somehow this just caught the mood of the artist. keep up the good work !

Enjoyed watching the Doc Jabari! Thanks for uploading/sharing!
Shared it on facebook! Originally saw it from a friend who posted it on facebook, and then someone shared the video after I posted it! Your stuff is getting around!

It's refreshing to see an artist who isn't just a puppet on strings for executives using them as monetary investments. Props man!
Love from France. Beautiful people. Hope to see them in tour in France soon.
Funny how i just heard about him through somebody before Thrift Shop hit the radio, listened to all his & Ryan work. now i already got him in my top 10, great quality hip-hop right here
Possibly the best interview I've ever watched
Been listening to Macklemore and Ryan for over 2 years now, way back before they blew up! When Otherside just came out and all Macklemore's videos had under 200k views. It's crazy how fast he's accelerating in the music industry and with the announcement of his appearance on Ellen I think things are about to get CRAZY.
Really enjoyed this documentary! Love the truth this guy speaks, so down to earth!
Would have been a great experience getting to do this with these guys.
I am VERY Impressed not only by the filming but My Macklemores point.. hence why we LOVE Him n Ryan as an artist!
Macklemore is the most real musician out there right now. Props to him & Ryan Lewis.
Great documentary, and these guys are just incredible. They deserve all the success that come their way.
I'm so excited I'm going to his show this next week! I love Macklemore he is just amazing!
Macklemore visited my school, it was amazing but its hard seeing that at one point he was like me. Great Work with the documentary Jabari.
Great documentary my man, these guys are coming up quick so you did them and the people that vibe their music a good service.
Nice job :) I like how u showed real emotion, that's the best in Documentries! Are you making more vids about Macklemore & Ryan Lewis?
