Thomas Ellis Certain parts of America, Mexico and Canada, Argentina, the Caribbean, England, Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the world are full of Gaelic descendants.
Dae Dalus I didn't literally mean just America, but in the US the number of people who claim Irish ancestry is 35.5 million that's more than any other country in the world and it's over 11% of the USA's population (those people aren't Irish they just have Irish ancestry).
Thomas Ellis You're right. Mostly on the east coast too. Ireland is extremely misrepresented here in the U.S., even by the descendants. Having Irish blood means very little if you are ignorant of the history and culture of the country itself.
Dae Dalus Yeah they are all over England Irish here Irish there I would know I'm of Irish descent(1/4 Irish) but this video is wrong that flag is the flag of the republic of Ireland not Ireland & only Americans would make that mistake & is quite offensive to the Northern Irish that should have been St Patrick's flag they were flying. That is the problem with Americans they all think they are Irish when half of them are Ulster Scots not even Irish. The Americans need to start respecting the Northern Irish's views just because they don't want to join the republic of Ireland that doesn't make them any less Irish than the republic of Ireland. After all as of now I don't blame the Northern Irish as the republic isn't doing to well at the moment & is down their with countries like Portugal which isn't good & will take time to recover, not to mention the fact that they had to borrow 7 Bn of their old enemy the UK.

Been in Ireland for the last 5 weeks. Most incredible experience of my life. I have never been less homesick and as heartbroken to leave a place as I am now. It is such a beautiful country with many incredible people. It was an adventure I will never forget and will hold with me for the rest of my life. Spending my last night listening to Irish music and sipping my Guinness. Cheers.
This song is great. Makes me proud every time and I'm not even Irish. I love the cultural pride and openness Also, I'm African so I respect anyone who stood up to the colonialists! Keep doing you, Ireland. :)
in my eyes everyone can have irish pride, irish pride goes deeper than just being from Ireland. now irish pride is the pride of being free and believing in freedom. LET US ALL BE IRISH PROUD
A celebration of love towards alk Irish. Finally a country that is emancipated from its history and that has a population of human beings who undestand the true meaning of inclusion and compassion. To all with Irish blood, love is in the air. Love is love. I support marriage equality!
Teresa, I think your spelling your name wrong...it's Mackdonah. That is, if you claim to be Irish. Stay down with your working group buddies who know all and tell the truth about all.
"I put the drink down, I couldn't drink like a gentleman. But that doesn't mean I can't make a drinking song for the rest of em." - one of the most amazing lines in Macklemore's entire anthology.
Amazing song.! I liked too much. Greetings from Argentina to the Irish people. In here we have a hero called William Brown, he was irish and he helped to get my country's independence. He was a captain of our navy and fought for us. I rise my glass for Ireland!!!
I'm Irish-american. My sister got to go to Ireland last year. Can't wait until I have the privilege. Love being a Gavin. Originally it was O'Gavin until my family moved over. Can't help but feel blessed and grateful.
Any native -born Irish that want to dispute my heritage can look at the lineage and hardships my family went through being IRISH. Nothing ,but purple hearts in all the wars that mattered and being told, " No Dogs! No Irish!" when they got off work wanting a bite to eat.
nobody wants to dispute your heritage. but there's a difference between heritage and NATIONALITY. it's quite simple. if you're born in Ireland, you're Irish. If you weren't, you're of Irish "descent", it's quite simple.
I was talking to an older woman who grew up in Germany and was asking her about her childhood etc. Very nice woman. She stops in mid sentence and says "you must be Irish". I told her I was and she said she can always tell an Irish person by how friendly they are and what a sense of humor they have. So I have that going for me, which is nice.
Ireland! The most patriotic nation on Earth. So patrotic in fact, that the second most patriotic nation on earth ('Murica) tries to claim that they're all Irish, too. Sending love from England.
I'm the furthest thing from Irish but this song is sick! 100% Serbian here, but this song is inspiring. Spread love and peace around the world to all nationalities and races. We are all beautiful!
I am Irish myself, and seeing all these comments hating on the Irish saying that we are weak, yet the British Army could not defeat the IRA, which is a paramilitary? They needed to resort to killing civilians to attempt to get at us, yet it is them who called the truces over the many years of conflict an yet they consider themselves a "superpower"? Don't make ignorant comments against the Irish just because you are uninformed of the truth, the censorship of the fight brought home to England is to blame for that. I end this, proud to be an Irish Republican, Tiocfaidh ar lá - Our Time Will Come
Firstly, Killing civilians is a somewhat strategy of the British they used it in the Boer wars in an attempt to make the enemy surrender & it worked, Lord Kitchener was the man who thought of that so you can thank him. You're an Irish Republican that makes me laugh Republicans are just narrow minded twats. I have no issue with Nationalists but Republicans have a history of violence. The IRA was like a revolt it was no simple matter well the defeated them as the Provisional IRA demobilized hence why the Real IRA was created as they did not agree with the decision. You clearly know nothing on Britain or Ireland because as far as a war goes I think we won because Northern Ireland is still in the UK & also the IRA no longer has political support so if they tried anything big they would not get away with it anymore.
lewis bates You merely said that killing civilians is a "strategy" when it is clearly a war crime. You call Irish Republican's "narrow minded twats" when clearly the British don't give a shit about anyone but themselves? They invaded Ireland, the RIRA were in their right mind to protect what was their country, you think the English wouldn't do the same if they had been colonized? Notice how America reacted to it, the only difference is, the British were too afraid of losing this war as it would leave them "vulnerable" to attack from other countries as they may use this as a launch pad. If you can't respect the fact that people would give their lives for the freedom of their own country, like the English would have when the Normans invaded them in 1066. How can you consider that the war was won by the British Army when it was them, who had to pull out of the war. A "superpower" has to pull out of a war with a paramilitary? The problem with the British Army is that they don't know they are weak, they've always had the Americans backing them for some reason in which I don't understand, but that's irrelevant. I agree, that right now, the IRA shouldn't do anything due to the recession in the Republic of Ireland. The British invaded us, took our six counties, and ended up having to pay into our country for as long as it lasts. We'll enjoy the free cash, but another reason in which it wouldn't work is due to the Unionist party in Northern Ireland. They wouldn't agree to have us freed due to their loyalty to the Queen. But one day, Ireland will be a united country.
Toure Skills Ireland won't be united. It is a strategy as such. I have no issue with the Irish as I am 1/4 Irish myself(Ulster) but I'm staying Loyal to the Monarchy. I have no issue with Irish Nationalist but hate Irish Republicans. America backs us because of alot of thing the USA was originally founded in British colonies. We made them rich during WW1/2 by them selling us weapons for a couple of years. Loads of people invaded the English that's why I probably have Viking ancestors,Norman etc the difference is we integrated but the Irish won't.
lewis bates After a while, there will be another uprising. Eventually we will get sick of it. We seen an example of this back in 1916 when there was no backing for the IRA, even by Irish people. But when the martyrs were executed disgracefully by the British Army, opinions changed. Once the Republic regain economic status I predict that there will be another uprising. You say that the English made America rich, when all they did was sell them weapons? That's no reason to back a country. When China turned communist, America still remained to trade with them even though that they were in conflict with them to avoid the domino theory as they came out as communist unexpectedly. Ireland was also invaded by the Normans so I don't see your point. It is not our duty to be invaded and integrate, you have a decision whether to fight for your freedom or be forever ruled by someone else. Notice how America broke free after being colonized by the British. Why do people not hate on the Americans? The reason for that is trade.
Toure Skills America broke free because of taxes nothing to do with Patriotism for America that is a terrible & incorrect example. Well Britain & America have the same language, Britain was a superpower 2 superpowers making an alliance you aren't going to lose many wars are you? There is alot of British-Americans so obviously they would back it.
love this song. I must say it's amazing how irish people are bounded with their tradition. It's nice to see that there are some nations which didn't change culture and tradiotion for progress, but kept them during they've moved forward.
I'm an Irishman, born and bred in Ireland, and I love my Irish-American cousins across the pond (the Atlantic Ocean) but I dislike the way we Irish are constantly associated with alcohol and drunkenness. There's so much more to being Irish than getting drunk. Ireland is the land of saints and scholars. Gaeilge (Irish language) has a rich history in poetry and philosophy and music. There's nothing wrong with having a few drinks to promote conviviality and have a good time, but there's so much more to being Irish than that.
***** I'm not Irish and as far as i know have no family roots in Ireland. But i support this completely. People seem to be confusing stereotypes with genuine culture, and although I love this song for the tune, it is a little upsetting that Macklemore&Ryan Lewis try to sum up the Irish as "alcohol".
G11B No I'm not Irish at all, that's why I come from a predominantly Catholic background & was raised as a Catholic but I've always rejected Catholicism, my Great-Grandfather was Irish but married an Ulster-Scot & had children(my Grandma) who married an Englishman who had children(my mother) who married an Anglo-Scot(my Father) all of my family members that I stated are Catholic apart from my Father who is a weak Protestant. The IRA are nothing more than violence loving cunts, always were always have been.
I'm proud to be Irish and live in this wonderful country! fair enough history wasn't kind to us but we bid our time and now were the most respected nation in the world! hon the Irish! up tins!!!
Funny to think that about 100 years ago Irish people weren't even allowed to apply for jobs in most of the U.S.A and England .We were referred to as paddys which was just discrimination,It's great to know that we're no longer looked at as lesser beings and are usually friendly. :)
Im an Irish man born and raised. I have no problem with this song being made, this man has every right to make a song about his heritage, plus its a kick ass song!
I’m a straight white red headed freckled American male… St. Patrick’s day is the only day where I get to celebrate and feel proud of my genetic make up… it feels like a big deal for me because it seems like the rest of the year I’m supporting my LGBTQ, Black, Native, Female, and Asian brothers and sisters, but saint paddy’s… that’s my day ❤❤ and don’t forget, it doesn’t matter your ethnic background, you are all invited to celebrate our culture with us. ☘️☘️
If you are legit Irish then it is great, but if you're just an American or whatever you may be then it is still a good song but there is better for the day itself mate let me know if you need some pointers ;-)
Ireland is a beautiful country, I myself am from Donegal, i dont care if we lose in gaelic, i dont care if anyone thinks my accent is funny, i am just proud to be apart of my country
+MasterHD I'm from the King's County (Offaly) and I am really proud to be Irish because of things like the 1916 Rising. #longliveireland #100yearsstrong
I'm proud of my heritage and for all the people "offend" by this song, should realize that there's nothing wrong with expressing your heritage. even if your not a true born native.
Irish Americans are different than true Irish, but we are still proud of our heritage. My great grandfather came into a world that said. "Irish need not apply," but yet,we are still here.
My great grandfather came here too with Irish not apply. But once again, we are all still standing! Love you girl! One gen to the next! That’s all that matters!
Seen Macklemore live in Dublin in 2016 and he sang this last. To this day was the best experience I’ve had in my life. My proudest day ever to be Irish
Toast to those who made it on a boat to New York. So much emotion in that line. Where I'm from in Ireland has seen thousands make that trip, some succeed some don't. Glad it's getting mainstream recognition. Go raibh maith agar, Mack.
My family doesn't really embrace being Irish. I'm the only living person alive in my family that even looks Irish. Red hair all the way down my back and freckles even where the sun hasn't touched haha. I always got teased for it. This makes me feel good. This makes me feel proud to be me.
Darragh Duffy We have Irish heritage. I never said that the only thing that made me think I had roots there was because of hair color. I only said I'm the only one that LOOKS like I do.
I'm half Irish, and I've always thought that was the cooler side of my heritage. When I was a little kid I was always really upset that I wasn't fully Irish. I've come to accept it by now but I'm still sad that I don't have that dope accent.
I love how the people who live in Ireland say that American born aren't real Irish. Are you telling me that if you move to another country you won't raise your kids and grandchildren to be proud of their heritage?
Shannon Patton I half agree with you. I'm an American. Not Irish. My grandfather and grandmother on both sides came from Ireland and I grew up with Irish pride learning Irish culture. They made my sisters join an Irish dance group. I learned a lot from them and my parents. Now my son is growing up and I also tell him he's American first and Irish second. It will eventually phase out but it takes a couple generations. My sisters make my nieces join Irish dance groups because they say "if I had to do it so do you" lol much like the American Greeks and Italians
As a born and bred Irishman it’s refreshing to see so many foreigners have so much respect for us as a nation. Sometimes we get too caught up in our own politics and are ashamed of our country but at the end of the day I love being Irish and I’m thankful that we are respected as a nation across the world and the same goes from us to yous ☘️🇮🇪💚 Sláinte! 🍻
First generation immigrant and dual citizen! Proud of where my dad comes from and even prouder to finally have the passport to the most beautiful country in the world!
As an Irish man I can't help but feel a swell of pride. We are in trouble. I hope you all hear this. Ireland is in trouble we are losing ourselves to a corrupted government. One day we may be gone. Can't you hear us. Don't let the emerald Island eire fade away to the love of greed and money. Anyone who hears this. Spread the word. We need your help.

Everytime I listen to this song all I think of is my Irish heritage, God love the irish!!
Cheers.
Sláinte mo chara 🍻🇮🇪
This song is great. Makes me proud every time and I'm not even Irish. I love the cultural pride and openness Also, I'm African so I respect anyone who stood up to the colonialists! Keep doing you, Ireland. :)
hella abodomoveya
those who have been colonised, those that did share and still share the struggle will always have a special connection
Amen to this guy 😂😂
Best ever song I live right next to Ireland ❤😂🎉
You need to listen to Damien Dempsey -Colony.. greatest song ever written about the subject
not even irish, but this song makes me want to be irish so much
in my eyes everyone can have irish pride, irish pride goes deeper than just being from Ireland. now irish pride is the pride of being free and believing in freedom. LET US ALL BE IRISH PROUD
Irish proud is anti inperialism
I can get on with this!
This is a great song. If I was Irish, I'd be proud.
A celebration of love towards alk Irish. Finally a country that is emancipated from its history and that has a population of human beings who undestand the true meaning of inclusion and compassion. To all with Irish blood, love is in the air. Love is love. I support marriage equality!
I am Irish ... and proud to Irish ... everyone who has a link to ireland should embrace it its the best place on earth 😁☺
I'm irish but not giving me irish vibe tho
Great grand parents where Irish but I’m Scots Bhoy born n bred.

Teresa, I think your spelling your name wrong...it's Mackdonah. That is, if you claim to be Irish. Stay down with your working group buddies who know all and tell the truth about all.
@@lauramarierutter808 true. Why are there so many spellings of Hagan. There is Hagan and hagin. Thats Gaelic right? Just asking. All the best.
Mackelmore knows the story, Irish bloody is running through his veins . He stands with the oppressed in this world just like us here in Ireland 🇮🇪
"I put the drink down, I couldn't drink like a gentleman. But that doesn't mean I can't make a drinking song for the rest of em." - one of the most amazing lines in Macklemore's entire anthology.
I'm not irish but I know about having a rough history..Love you guys! AYE AYE
I'm irish and I can tell ya I'm so proud to be Irish🙌🏼🙌🏼
100%Irish here and this song makes me so proud...up the Irish show your stong roots 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Amazing song.! I liked too much. Greetings from Argentina to the Irish people. In here we have a hero called William Brown, he was irish and he helped to get my country's independence. He was a captain of our navy and fought for us. I rise my glass for Ireland!!!
YES👍👍👍🍀🇮🇪
he is talking about the best country ever im so proud to be irish
As an Irish American.. This is one of my fave songs.. Proud to listen to this song
I'm not Irish but Irish blood runs through my children's veins and ever since this song hits different
I'm Irish-american. My sister got to go to Ireland last year. Can't wait until I have the privilege. Love being a Gavin. Originally it was O'Gavin until my family moved over. Can't help but feel blessed and grateful.
Hope you have already been but if not hope to welcome you soon ♥️🇮🇪
Makes me incredibly proud to be Irish.
I agree.
House of Pain vibes are strong with this one. Macklemore killed it! Happy St Patrick's day 2024, lets get it!
Awww I love that!! 😭😭
You also probably had a pint of whiskey in your hand. Dead give away 😂☘️
Ireland! The most patriotic nation on Earth. So patrotic in fact, that the second most patriotic nation on earth ('Murica) tries to claim that they're all Irish, too.
Sending love from England.
You don't know the Algerian.... They're crazy
John Smith Enlgand..The Ugliest nation on earth...bad bodies, worse teeth....Well atleast you guys r good at futbol....Wait, no you arent....Fuck off
Yet ye call ur self GREAT Britain
Danny Flannery Woo! Thanks, I'm irish. Dia Dhuit

For Jacob Scott Lundy. Rest in peace, brother. I love you always, my dude. Till we meet again.
I'm proud to be Irish 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I like this song but remember our ancient royal kingdoms, and warriors instead of just drinking the whiskey.
I'm Brazilian. I love this country, Ireland is amazing!!!
Found out I was half irish yesterday. Time to show the Irish pride
I'm the furthest thing from Irish but this song is sick! 100% Serbian here, but this song is inspiring. Spread love and peace around the world to all nationalities and races. We are all beautiful!
who cares if u r serbian how is that relevant?
AMEN Brother JESUS CHRIST Saves 🙏❤️🙌✌️💪☘️✌️
Tellement ❤
5th generation Irish-American. Family came here, worked the railroads, and ended up in New York. Couldn't have wished for any other kind of heritage
I always used to wish I was from Brazil or England but this song made me feel proud to be Irish ,thanks Macklemore
German Irish here, proud to be half Haggerty...
Same here!
I m not even Irish but I love this song ...wtf
Ionut Dragos No shit man😂 me too
Im Japanese, but I want to raise my glass with Irish people..
This is so true
+G11B Ulseter isn't all northern Ireland there is county Donegal, which is Republic Ireland.
Michael Hegarty There are 3 counties in Ulster in the Republic of Ireland(Cavan,Monaghan,Donegal)
I'm from Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
I'm proud to be Irish and live in this wonderful country! fair enough history wasn't kind to us but we bid our time and now were the most respected nation in the world! hon the Irish! up tins!!!
I am not Irish but I like Ireland... RESPECT :)
I'm very very proud to be Irish Irish
I am not from ireland but i have to admit that the irish people make great beer great music and great friends
Funny to think that about 100 years ago Irish people weren't even allowed to apply for jobs in most of the U.S.A and England .We were referred to as paddys which was just discrimination,It's great to know that we're no longer looked at as lesser beings and are usually friendly. :)
friendly to each other as nations, didn't come through very clearly.
Im an Irish man born and raised. I have no problem with this song being made, this man has every right to make a song about his heritage, plus its a kick ass song!
Ireland is the land of poets and scholars.
Might only have a drop of Irish blood in me, but I'm as proud of each of my roots as if I was 100% of each one of them. 🎉
I'm not Irish, but this makes me cry.
Proud Irish & Filipino mix here! Happy St. Patty’s Day to my Irish Dad, Grandma and Grandpa in heaven.
How can you be proud Irish if you think it’s called st “patty’s” day? IT’S PADDY NOT PATTY!!
I wanted to like you comment but I can't help agree with Maisie...
Best song for St. Patrick's Day!
Morgasm172 thats just your opinion man.
Damn straight I second that!
ACproductions No its really not
If you are legit Irish then it is great, but if you're just an American or whatever you may be then it is still a good song but there is better for the day itself mate let me know if you need some pointers ;-)

+MasterHD I'm from the King's County (Offaly) and I am really proud to be Irish because of things like the 1916 Rising. #longliveireland #100yearsstrong

NeilLennon legend
*Dromore!!* 😅
Always so extremely proud to be an Irishman; County Mayo x
I'm proud of my heritage and for all the people "offend" by this song, should realize that there's nothing wrong with expressing your heritage. even if your not a true born native.
I'm Kenyan but I'm lifting my glass to the sky and live the night...
Irish cele-fuckn-bration.
Irish used to be called "the new niggers" in America. People forget no one deserves oppression.
Seen Macklemore live in Dublin in 2016 and he sang this last. To this day was the best experience I’ve had in my life. My proudest day ever to be Irish
One of the only rappers I want to see live
Toast to those who made it on a boat to New York. So much emotion in that line. Where I'm from in Ireland has seen thousands make that trip, some succeed some don't. Glad it's getting mainstream recognition. Go raibh maith agar, Mack.
All of Ireland is celebrating today-can't say I blame 'em!
My family doesn't really embrace being Irish. I'm the only living person alive in my family that even looks Irish. Red hair all the way down my back and freckles even where the sun hasn't touched haha. I always got teased for it. This makes me feel good. This makes me feel proud to be me.
Hannah Vandehei Being ginger isn't being irish you could be scottish
Darragh Duffy We have Irish heritage. I never said that the only thing that made me think I had roots there was because of hair color. I only said I'm the only one that LOOKS like I do.
+Darragh Duffy or just ginger
When one of go to war, we all go to war. Irish and proud my man.
Dr. Phil's lily white ass you dont have to be ginger to be irish and you dont need freckles you dumb fuck
I’m 3rd generation Scottish. All the great grandparents were Irish. I feel a bond still there with my ancestors although I love Scotland too.
Am I classed as Italian as I'm from Roman decent?
+Shawty Gamer am I classed as north african because I am a homo sapien?
Brian Powers yeah but it only goes so far! 3 of my grandparents are Irish but I'm not! Ya great granny's grandad being Irish doesn't make you Irish!
im Irish to the core , I raise a glass too all the fallen soldier's.

+John Downey Just perfect yesterday

First generation immigrant and dual citizen! Proud of where my dad comes from and even prouder to finally have the passport to the most beautiful country in the world!
As an Irish man I can't help but feel a swell of pride. We are in trouble. I hope you all hear this. Ireland is in trouble we are losing ourselves to a corrupted government. One day we may be gone. Can't you hear us. Don't let the emerald Island eire fade away to the love of greed and money. Anyone who hears this. Spread the word. We need your help.
Leo's on the ball m8 what u sayin?
Wacko
Scots/Irish heritage here. I have both of their attitudes, which can get interesting. Even more when my Viking blood comes out.
