- Lacrimosa (III. Sequentia) from Mozart's Requiem with Latin lyrics and English translation and my drawing.

The fact that this masterpiece once existed as a thought or idea in a person's mind just baffles me. It's unnatural how beautiful this is.
and not only that but it was probably written up in one try, without any mistakes or errasing of ideas
Sorry this is not what mozart made.
@@ascpisces who made it?

As a soprano that regularly sings way higher than the staff, this song is hard. I almost passed out because of how high the notes are and how far and few between the rests are. Props to all the sopranos 200 years ago for singing that live and in a corset.
Amen, I sang soprano for this recently and it was extremely difficult, but absolutely worth it.
By contrast we basses have it easy.
I got the first parts good then the others were hard
@@IsaacAsimov1992 Yes but not really. The basses in this song have in the middle of the song, half steps up with octave jumps. Then after a measure of rests, the basses sing a D4 which for some isn't so pretty. But overall, this song is high for everybody.
Thr corset doesn't constrict your ability to sing this because opera singers have their corset cinched when the lungs are at full capacity so you don't faint and have space for breathing. If you don't breath using a corset or it is small on you or you cinchet it too much
0:52 Mozart died here. From this point on, his pupil Franz Xavier Süssmayr completed it based on Mozart’s notes.
Incredebly incredible
He left the chat on a high note
Shout out to the pupil he did great
@@rosesaremerry yeah lol
No wonder it felt different after that point, but the theme was still there
Big props to Franz Xavier
It is hard to believe this music was created two hundred and twenty two years ago. Mozart did this without the benefit of modern instruments, electronic amplification, auto tuning and computer arranged composition. It was left unfinished when Mozart died in 1791 at the age of 35. This was the genius of, in my humble opinion, the greatest composer that ever lived. He composed over 600 works. Buried in a commoners grave, who died without money and in debt. Few mourners attended his funeral. After his death, his fame grew and over time, those who love music realized how great he was. You do not have to know and understand classical music to love Mozart, you have to simply hear it. Herr Mozart, you did not die on that day in December of 1791. You live in your music, which is still played 222 years after your death. You are loved and you will never be forgotten. As long as human beings have the ability to hear your music, you will be immortal. Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, the greatest composer ever!
Well, as like as Jean-Sébastien Bach ;)
(more than 1 thousand compositions)
samados969 he lived roughly twice as long. So ya know, consider that. Mozart never grew old which is sad.
What I heard from my dad is that those compositions were the ones we still have today. Bach probably had more than 2000 compositions but a large chunk were lost because the paper on which he wrote his compositions were used to prevent trees from dying in the winter.
I agree with most of what you say.
However, considering that great music is also loved by other animals, I offer the following amendments:
Herr Mozart you are loved and you will never be forgotten.
As long as all higher animals have the ability to hear your music, you will be immortal.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, you are one of the 4 greatest composers ever - along with Bach, Beethoven and Schubert.
(Although I believe that you are correct about his baptismal name, Mozart preferred to be called Wolfgang Amadeus, by which name he is most commonly known.)
Sergio Koolhaas you know Mozart's favorite keyboard instrument was the organ, but because of the trend of the classical era, organ music was losing popularity and was mostly improvised and not written down on sheet music. As demonstrated in Fantasia in F minor for organ K608, Mozart could write double or triple fugues like a baroque master even in his early 30s. If there was a huge demand for organ music like the baroque era, and Mozart had just a little life time, we would have had more "baroque" compositions from Mozart even more than Bach or Handel.
I'm a hard core atheist and this piece makes me want to fall to my knees and pray to God that I don't burn in hell. These choir singers sound like wailing souls, and it's so beautiful and divine and horrific at the same time . . . but it's also perfectly structured and memorable. Genius at its best.
Thus spake?
Genius indeed, and inspired. There is power and truth in this requiem. God lives and you have felt it. We are all sons and daughters of God. Seek Him and you will find peace and happiness not only in the eternities, but in this life as well.
I couldn't agree with you more. What a horrifyingly beautiful piece, unparalleled.
Christopher Sharp This is my second time hearing it and reading the translation...wow....it gave me chills....I was so moved and felt like crying. Amazing piece.
I feel exactly the same way! I was raised an atheist and the only thing that ever makes me feel like I could be religious is gorgeous music like this. I'm pretty sure religion was borne from feelings like that... feelings of awe and beauty.

RIP Mozart who tragically was taken from this world 229 years ago today. He did not deserve the early death he got.
Well, really; 35 was probably a fairly good age in the 18th century.

There’s something about Latin that’s so haunting
Especially when it's sung by a big choir
The Latin language has always been fascinating to me, to the point where I've actually heard certain words and phrases enough to actually understand them. No wonder the Christian church chose it as it's "divine" language all those centuries ago (though ecclesiastical Latin, which the Christians used, was technically slightly different from classical Latin, which the Romans spoke)
I get chills every single time I listen to this piece. So incredibly profound and moving.
Exactly!
I believe when Mozart composed this, he knew he was going to die. I also believe Mozart was asking God to not only forgive him but also the sins of mankind. This is evident in the Lacrimosa. The Lacrimosa is a prayer from Mozart to God and it is an incredible composition, both musically and in the words Mozart used in his prayer. "That day of tears and mourning, when from the ashes shall arise, all humanity to be judged, Spare us by your mercy, Lord, gentle Lord Jesus, grant them eternal rest." Mozart was only 35 when he died and he was buried in a commoners grave. Very few people came to see his body cast in with the other poor souls who could not afford an elaborate funeral. There He lay until the grave was full and lime was cast upon the dead. What is important to me is that even though his body was dead, his music will never die. This requiem is still performed around the world, 224 years after Mozart died. Because God loved him and blessed his music, I believe Mozart showed his thanks to God by composing this Requiem, which is a prayer of comfort to those who have lost loved ones. The words are in Latin, but the translation of the entire requiem is beautiful and moving. I'm not an expert in classical music and there are those who would argue the greatness of Beethoven, Handel, Bach, etc., but this requiem is one of the most beautiful and moving musical compositions my ear and heart have ever heard. No computers , modern instruments, or auto tuning assisted Mozart in the composition. It was done by someone, in my opinion, who was blessed by God and is our gift from Him. Mozart composed over 600 works which are still played around the world so many years after his passing in 1791. He remains, at least to me, the most incredible composer that ever lived.
Yeah. Weird, though, Mozart died at the 8th measure.
His life was very dramatic

For singers, particularly basses, this is an excellent piece to use as a vocal warm-up. In nearly all the vocal lines, there are intervals that limber up the voice without strain or artificiality. Just a friendly tip.
This is a GREAT piece for alto and bass and tenors 💯💯💯

Yeah, the same happened to me. I listened to black metal and then I became a Satanist. That's just how it is, you listen to a particular music and then get converted to an ideology that you know absolutely nothing about and has a specific set of rules and a proposition on how the world works. That's how mind-blowingly fu***ing stu*id both of us are.
I feel like I feel Mozarts pain when I hear this song. I conducted it once for a class and was in tears, it was so emotional. Now reading about Mozart, his past, music and life, I can only feel sympathy for his last strands of sanity near the end of his life... R.I.P., to one of the greatest composers of all time...
I thought for a long time that no speakers could ever amplify that crescendo at 0:40 properly, then I saw this performed live at the Sydney Opera House. I can now die whole.

Mozart was definitely angelically possessed.
There's actually a theory he had autism
The first time I listened to this masterpiece was about 15 years ago when I was watching a documentary about WW2 and when they showed the part of the Holocaust, they chose, fittingly, Lacrimosa as the background music. Seeing the horrifying footage alongside this music, it hit me hard. Couldn't sleep well for a few days. Music can unleash all sorts of different emotions. And Lacrimosa is that poignant.

Tears run down my face when I listen to this. Simply a masterpiece.
I went to visit Mozart's grave in Vienna back in 2018. This tune was hurling in my head on that day. Will never forget this. ... Its almost symbolic that around his grave Viennese built one of the country's noisiest highways, encircling the entire cemetery...
Does anybody notice the heart beat symbol to the left of the hand and then it going flat?

Mozart was and always will be a legend. He was writing this as he was dying, and sadly he never got to finish it himself. But despite that, it’s still a beautiful piece that you can truly see the passion in.
For James. I kissed and held your hand to my face as we listened to this together and you cried. I never knew at the time what the words meant. You died not long after. You died a day after your birthday on 11July 2023 and not a day goes by that I don't miss you my love.

Let's be honest, none of us will be that lucky. It is reserved for special people.
0:52 That's how far Mozart got into the composition before he died.
When I hear the Amen of Lacrimosa, it's almost like the gates of Heaven are opening to me...
God, it's so beautiful.
This is sooo hard to listen to without feeling like your going to fall to the floor praying for mercy and your feelings now of sorrow! I'm nearly crying!!!
so beautiful music... though it is sad... but i have always been someone who loves the sad music and arts much more... it seems more honest, and it seems to go directly into the heart...
This piece of music is mind blowing
:P! Yes well supposedly maybe he had an I.Q. of 208. Mine is unlikely to be that high(AND DERP)but I still enjoy what I created and video recorded! Watch the videos on this channel because you will enjoy them!
I saw this in concert a week ago, and now I'm writing a concert review for my class at school. I'm now listening to this for the 5th time just now, and even if I listen to it 10 more times today, it will never fail to move me.
I first heard this on "Hey Arnold" way back in the late 90s, and I've since never forgotten it. I've always appreciated how classical music was well woven into the fabric of tv shows designed for kids.
...Then I started searching for Beethoven on youtube and I fell in love with him without me really knowing it. Then I found the Turkish March by Mozart also on youtube, then Eine Kleine Nachmusik, then the 40th symphony and of course, I loved them all, then Mozart quickly became my 2nd favorite composer. I found classical music to be something so extraordinary, so beautiful and special for it gave the feeling that no other music have ever given me...

I’m amazed that the world’s greatest musical talents of true music spent the bulk of their time and energy on making the best sacred music possible for the Traditional Latin Mass. Both these composers, like Mozart et al. and the Traditional Latin Mass are the perfection of Music and Worship of the True God while still on earth.
I always hear this amazing and heartfelt piece of music in movies and TV shows but I know nothing about classical music. I heard this and saw the title closed captioned on an episode of the Australian tv show "Mr. & Mrs. Murder "- binge-watching during covid19 "stay-at-home" orders. Finally I could look for that great music "Lacrimosa".🙂🌹. Thank you

I love how the poster makes the hand jitter up and down in the beginning of the song, and when the 1st verse comes it, it stops. Symbolizing the heartbeats (shown in the picture too). SOOO DEEP
The melody speaks to me..... your channel is fabulous!
did anyone notice the picture in the back? Look really closely at the thread the hand is holding.... deep
+Anne Gendron-Herndon Wow, I never saw that. Thanks, it truly fits.
+Anne Gendron-Herndon Im confused. is it holding musical notes?
+Doodle Six When Mozart wrote this piece, he was on his death bed and dying. I think he died before he even got to finish this song. The thread the hand is holding shows a heart rate monitor line, half of it shows a beating heart, the other half shows that it is dead. It represents how Mozart died halfway through writing the piece. It is a really great picture for this song.

This one, this one's my favorite out of all the Requiem.
Truly a masterpiece.
This is by far the greatest music that Mozart wrote and that has been written. Best and most moving Requiem.
Ah, how the artwork fits so well, the life line passing through the angel of death's hand going into a flat line, so simplistic in its message yet so powerful.
I shall have a small orchestra play this song at my father's funeral.
...a small orcestra? I hope the funeral is a success my friend!

A man is fortunate when before he died have the chance to ask for forgiveness and mercy of God for their sins .

How is it not?
PhyreI3ird actually it is a spng it got lyrics.
ביל סדט This is not a "song" in a technical classical sense. A "song" in Mozart's day was a piece of music, typically with one vocalist, and very well defined verses sung repeatedly to the same melody. A song, or "lieder" in German, usually can stand alone as its own work. The Lacrymosa and all other portions of the Requiem are merely "movements" from a larger mass setting. The movements are necessarily part of a larger work.
an atheist touched by lacrimosa is spiritually purer than a believer who is not.
thanks for this, beautiful!
