Great progress John! I'm looking forward to seeing that transload facility get built up. The more I think about it, I think I want to also include a transload option in my next layout. Seeing a bunch of hoppers lined up like that just looks cool!
Thanks Joey! Yes hoppers are one of my favorite cars and being able to shuffle them around adds a lot of ops potential to a smaller area. Thanks for watching!
Nice update. Atlas shows another batch of those center partition cars on their website in production due 2nd Q of 2022, but it doesn't show any container ship date yet so who knows when they will be over here... You could always get 2 Walthers cheapies just to test the track radii. Two of them are less than the price of one Atlas basically. They actually aren't too bad, especially if you plan to build your own lumber loads you don't even see the loaded cars.
This is looking fantastic so far! Very simple and clean; I like how the staging is in a separate room too; give the layout a large feel! Looking forward to seeing more progress! Cheers!
Great job! Love the track plan so far. For my hand throw switches I love the Blue Point manual switch controllers with the push/pull knob setup in the fascia. Worth a look.
You’re definitely aware that transloading facilities are the modern team track. There are a lot of possibilities of any imaginable industry within 300 miles (BNSF pitch). Looking forward to the progress. Congratulations on the house.
John, Wow you are making great progress on your layout! The transloading area looks fantastic, you have plenty of room for the trucks and will have lots of switching for that one facility. The weathering on your cover hopper car fleet is very realistic. That is an excellent idea to hold off on installing the sidings at the Home Depot facility until you have the cars and backdrop installed. I am looking forward to seeing the progress on your layout.
Thanks Tom! I was trying to make as much use of the time I had at home. Trying to get the essential stuff done so I can focus and take my time with the fun stuff ;)
I'm glad to see you're back! I found you previous ventures to be really inspiring, and now that I've moved into my first apartment, I'd hope to give this a try this winter! Great start and I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with this!
Thanks! I love hearing about others inspired to start a layout. The small switching layout is the perfect way to try different techniques and enjoy the hobby
John this is looking like it will be a nice operations oriented layout. Don is a great guy to have around with his awesome skills and he should a great motivator to get things done. The speed in which is gets things completed with amazing realism on his layout awe inspiring. Thanks for keeping us update with your videos.
Thanks for sharing your progress, John. Very nice to see. I second the suggestion for rerailers in staging. My car storage consists of ten tracks about 4 feet long each, five tracks per shelf section, separate from the layout. I have a rerailer at one end of each track and they are very helpful, especially since I carry cars with a set of "train tongs" made from large grill tongs fitted with rectangular shaped foam sections held in place with duct tape. I can transport the cars to and from my layout without ever touching them and rerailers make it easy to place them on the storage tracks. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thanks Andrew! Yes it’s a great idea and will drastically minimize frustration getting cars back on the track. The train Tongs are brilliant! Thanks again for watching!
Thanks a lot John. The layout is looking great. A lot of great moves. The rolling stock is fantastic in your weathering. Good luck and truly can't wait for updates. Take care and have fun cause that's what it's all about.
You've honestly been inspiring for me to make my own shelf layout. Thank you for sticking with it and I'm mental taking notes every video (currently trying not to have my wiring be a disaster lol)!
Great job John so glad to have my partner back.i based my layout be caused I seen your layout.i all so got back in to the hobby. I'm redoing my layout need more reastate.i want to put in some towns so I have to re do it. Great to have you back.
that is so cool John, looks like you got more room to run on this one than your old one. nice train you ran in the beginning! And I know what you mean about getting the wiring right. Ain't it nice to be on a fresh build so you can apply all the lessons you learned from the old one! Sweet video man :)
Looks amazing so far! Atlas has another run of Centerbeams coming eventually, and Rapido just announced that they are making some. Keep up the great work, and thanks for the update!
Layout looks great John! I can’t wait to see the train go into the closet and come out with your Hawaiian shorts, dress shirt and Scooby Doo tie. The wiring is tricky but it’s easy to program. Can’t wait for more!!
Thanks. Yes I can do that. With it being a larger area I’m still debating on the method I will use. Either foam sheets or the plaster method. Or maybe even a combo of both.
Looking good John, I like your idea about keeping the chemical track to just one spur. It is tempting to put more track in but as you point out there will still be ample operations. You do such an excellent job with your scenery, buildings and details so the extra space will be of value in that regard as well. scott
Looking good John, you move fast! One suggestion for the staging yard - I found having a re-railer on each end of each staging track is pretty convenient!
Hey John heard you mention in the video you were looking for some Centerbeam cars. Not sure if you’ve heard but Rapido is releasing their own run of the NSC 72’ Footers which we get all the time at the 84 Lumber warehouse I work at!
If you need centerbeams to test out on the curves the Walthers Mainline centerbeams are the same length as the Atlas versions and they're quite inexpensive.
Hey John you made awesome progress on the layout . It really looks nice , the small changes you did should make running easier . Can't wait to see the Transflo yard go in .
Making some great progress, very nice. FYI...Micro Engineering has been up for sale for a while. Not sure it they closed down or found a buyer yet but that's why stock is running out.
Yes unfortunately I think the production and stock is slowly disappearing. It’s a shame as they had some of the most realistic looking turnouts and track. Hopefully someone picks up the line and it continues.
Nice sounding locomotive. What brand is it and what type of sound decoder are you using. Great seeing you back on youtube and the new layout is really coming along.
Thanks Gary! It is a new Walthers GP9 with a Proto 2000 GP7 shell. The board is a new ESU power pack board with a ScaleSound speaker. Might be the best sounding locomotive I have.
Wow, you're kickin butt John! You've done quite a bit, and it looks awesome. That staging setup is going to be really nice for future operations. Oh and that geep sounds amazing too, what setup is in it? I'm very glad you came back to us, you're much appreciated. Train World has Atlas centerbeams on pre-order right now for $39.99. They are out of the yellow TTX scheme but the brown NS version is still available for pre-order. I will also talk around to some people and see if I can round up a couple for ya. Dave B.
Thanks Dave! The Geep is a Walthers loco with a ESU keep alive board and Scale Sound speaker. It might be the best sounding loco I have done yet! I’m going to pre order a few of those Atlas cars today lol thanks for watching bud
Nice progress John…layout looks so neat/clean…maid comes in often 😊….trans-load area gonna be a neat switching area…doing your special concrete in that area?
John, so excited to see an update, I guess I have missed others. I didnt know you started a new layout. Did you move or just start over where you were? I love ME track, I buy it from time to time to stock up, sometimes you can get some deals on ebay but the shipping is horrible. Have you ever considered hand laying? It looks great and can be tedious but is a lot of fun. I use ME rail for that too. I have built switches on scraps of old paneling at the bench and the paneling acts like roadbed, I cut it to shape and bevel the edges for a good ballast profile. tack it to the layout with silicone to hold it down and its easy to remove if you wanted to scrap the layout. Your locomotive sound is so awesome, sounds as real as it can get. Cheers Rob
Looks great John! Did you guys end up moving!? Hence the new layout? I’ve been totally MIA myself with the hobby and here on UA-cam so if you made an announcement, my apologies for not seeing it. Hope you’re doing well friend! Sean
Sean it’s great to hear from you! I was just thinking of you the other day and was hoping you were ok. Finally getting into the 3D printer. Yes I moved finally into the house I was building over the past couple years. I just started the new layout about a month ago. Great to hear from you! -John
If you start building a project, there’s a pretty good chance a manufacture will announce it lol. Although I got a great deal on this undecorated GP9 and had the GP7 shell.
Thanks lol it was a few long nights but I’m trying hard to get the basic layout structure done. Hopefully by the next update I’ll be planning some scenes :)
I think they make an interesting "universal" industry you can add to a layout that accepts all types of rail cars..
Looking great John,I think I see a locomotive video coming at some point after spotting that undecorated locomotive..🤔👍
If you're worried about centerbeam on tighter radius, Exactrail makes 60-ft ones instead of the 70+-ft ones.
Thanks for that. I will check them out. Hoping to be able to make the larger ones work. Especially with Rapido releasing their new ones!
@@RailserveJohn I am looking forward to the rapido ones too!

Hi, just now viewed this update. The layout looks great! and Im glad too, you kept up the channel. I’ll be looking for your next one.
You are more than welcome John. Looking forward to helping you out with more when you get back.
Thanks Don. Plenty more projects to do!
This is looking fantastic so far! Very simple and clean; I like how the staging is in a separate room too; give the layout a large feel! Looking forward to seeing more progress! Cheers!
Thanks! Yes I was pretty set on having staging separate from the layout. It does make the layout feel much larger…
Great to see you back in action - very excited to see your new layout taking shape. Best wishes from the UK. Ian
Thanks Ian. I actually just returned from from Scotland.
Great job! Love the track plan so far. For my hand throw switches I love the Blue Point manual switch controllers with the push/pull knob setup in the fascia. Worth a look.
Thanks. I am also a fan of the Blue Point. Something about the manual action that I like
Wow, did I miss a few weeks? You really made great progress. This is going to be a really nice layout and you can still use the rooms. Great job John.
Thanks. I took a little break in the summer but am back at it.
Glad you’re back. Look forward to seeing the progress.
Thanks you!
Nicely done! The scenery will pop it out! A great inspiration..
Thank you!
You’re definitely aware that transloading facilities are the modern team track. There are a lot of possibilities of any imaginable industry within 300 miles (BNSF pitch). Looking forward to the progress. Congratulations on the house.
Thanks. Lots of switching opportunities in these facilities.

The speed in which is gets things completed with amazing realism on his layout awe inspiring. Thanks for keeping us update with your videos.
Thanks Scott! Yes it had been great working with Don and pretty crazy how we live just a block from each other lol
Thanks for sharing your progress, John. Very nice to see. I second the suggestion for rerailers in staging. You've honestly been inspiring for me to make my own shelf layout. Thank you for sticking with it and I'm mental taking notes every video (currently trying not to have my wiring be a disaster lol)!
Thank you for Watching Christopher. I love to hear others starting their own journey though a new layout. Just remember to have fun! -John
That locomotive in the beginning of the video sounds awesome 👍
Thanks! It’s an ESU decoder and scalesound speaker

Looking really good John....safe flying
Thanks Duane. Lots to do so at least some time away I can plan a bit more
that is so cool John, looks like you got more room to run on this one than your old one. nice train you ran in the beginning! And I know what you mean about getting the wiring right. Thanks bro. It sure is nice to have a clean slate. As much as I love the old layout starting fresh just feels like the right thing to do.
Looks amazing so far! Atlas has another run of Centerbeams coming eventually, and Rapido just announced that they are making some. Keep up the great work, and thanks for the update!
Thanks! Yeah I will be looking for that new run and for sure picking up some of those Rapido models
John, looking good. I like the transload area, it should make for some interesting switching.
Thanks Bob. It seems to be a layout favorite especially for future operators on the layout.
Your rolling stock looks very realistic with the weathering!
Thanks Dave. I have so much more to do lol
Layout looks great John! I can’t wait to see the train go into the closet and come out with your Hawaiian shorts, dress shirt and Scooby Doo tie. The wiring is tricky but it’s easy to program. Can’t wait for more!!
Lol now you are giving me ideas….. 🤔
The new layout is coming along nicely John! Can't wait to see how you use the tank cars on the layout. Cheers Brian
Thanks Brian!
The new layout is coming along nicely! When you do the pad fro the trans load facility can you please try and show your process this time? THANKS
Thanks. Yes I can do that. With it being a larger area I’m still debating on the method I will use. Either foam sheets or the plaster method. Or maybe even a combo of both.
Nice video! Keep them coming. Very nice weathering on the freight cars!
Thanks Jeff!
The rail sounds of the diesel are most impressive.
Thanks John. I am excited to get this new loco in service
all in the dream sir, what you have invisioned is going to be perfect for what you want to do. I kind of like it.
It is nice to see something come to life that you have been thinking of for years. Thanks for watching Sparky
Awesome John!! Great to see you back into action looking forward as you start your new layout 😎 Derail Darrell
Thanks Darrel! Feels good to have something started and trains running!

Thanks for the Comment Scott. I’m anxious to get the upper lighting valance up so I can see things better
Yes, lighting makes a big difference!
Man that looks great! Awsome work, looking forward to seeing what's next.
Thanks buddy! Chipping away little by little at the structural stuff so I can get to the fun modeling ;)
Thank you for sharing. Very nice.
Thank you for watching :)

looking good, cant wait to see it progress,

Fantastic progress!

wow i really like your work station got a lot of paint the layout looks great thank you making another video
Thanks Dwight. Yes I really wanted space to work. It was really hard not push the layout around both rooms lol
Sweet tunnel action brother
🤙 it sure is an interesting tunnel lol
making good progress there John
Thanks Digger!
I really like the height you chose for the layout.
Being a NJ based layout, to make a left, do you have to turn right first
Hahahaha the most accurate comment yet!
Hey John you made awesome progress on the layout . It really looks nice , the small changes you did should make running easier . Can't wait to see the Transflo yard go in .
Thanks Jerry! Seeing all of those trucks and trailers will look pretty cool!
Nice update man it’s looking good 👍
Thanks bud 🤙
Looks great John. Will you paint the cork in the transload facility or are you going to put down styrene or use another product?
Thanks Kyle. I’m still planning out the “paved” area but will most likely use a grey tinted plaster.
woot woot! thanks for sharing!
Thanks Drew. It’s slowly coming together.
Sweet! Looks great!
Thank you!
there is the railserve locomotive shop in downtown longview
Nice. I see them from time to time

Doesn't it just hurt that Rapido is doing a GP9 now.... I was building a Maple Leaf Trains GP9 slug and well I guess not any more 😆

@@KingTrump2024 LOL every time
I had to ask myself if you work 24/7 on this..2 weeks ago you had a drawing...like everybody else I'm chomping at the bit to see the transload area.

What's the height of your layout?
Track height is at 51”
