This deck was tier 0 in wild until the card was nerfed.

    I feel like you tend to dismiss some cards a bit that are not in the top tier meta decks, but not to their own fault.
    Take Rokara for example. Yes, Enrage Warrior is not the best deck at the moment, but Rokara is a staple in that deck. So "I haven't seen her played since FitB" gives a strange impression of the card, especially when you tell the guests they can evaluate the cards in a vacuum. If I read the stats correctly, Rokara is in 1.5% of all decks at the moment, which should be around half of all Warrior decks (including control decks where she obviously doesn't fit in). That's pretty good, the class just sucks overall.

      Exactly. Same with Chatty Bartender. I played a ton of Secret Mage early in expansion and this card single-handedly saved me games against Imp Warlock and other wide board decks. The trick is not in having Ice block, but playing a secret you know they won't open, e.g. Oasis Ally if you have no minions on turn 3, Ice Barrier if they don't, etc. Obviously Sec Mage is not meta in standard right now, but that does not mean the card is bad. In Wild SM has about 60% winrate, guess which card is hard carrying against aggro.

    • @RatedManatee
      @RatedManatee Рік тому

      Problem would be somewhat solved looking at kept/drawn winrate compared to average and playrate, even if the class is bad.

    As much as I love your content rarran and I truly do, I don’t think you understand what “In a vacuum.” Means.
    In a vacuum describes something that stands alone, something cut off from other influences, something without links to the outside world.
    Meaning for hearthstone, the card should not be influenced by what currently is or isn’t in the game. Card like dantherus or the countess would be excellent examples. These cards that you used were all conditional cards influenced by what is in the meta.
    The dragon was influenced by if dragons were good.
    The bartender card is influenced by if secrets would stay in play a long time
    Olgra if enrage warrior was good etc.
    If you gonna show people “in a vacuum.” Cards, you need general, non-conditional cards.
    But again, I really do love your content, literally watch these the moment they come out and hope you continue to improve.

    Hey Rarran, first off, this segment is currently by far my favorite hearthstone content out there.
    I absolutely love it.
    Now comes the one criticism...
    Your knowledge of the cards itself...
    Both druid cards you started with don't see play because there's a stronger control archetype than using those.
    The secret synergy card doesn't see play because secrets suck so there's no real archetype (trust me, I tried...).
    Also, it's very relevant, what time cards come out in terms of power creep.
    If you asked me about rottenous drake being in the power of this meta I would say not strong enough, but it coming out like 6 years back I'd say frecking OP.
    Again, love the content keep it up!

    I don't really play Hearthstone anymore but whenever I see talk about Theotar, the Mad Duke I can't help but think - "You can see 3 cards in your opponent's hand". That effect alone seems quite good - maybe not good enough on a 4 mana 3/3 but not bad either. Of course you can see the enemy's class and what they've played for the first 3 turns so you know what cards to expect in their deck but having the info on what they already have in hand seems quite good on its own. The fact that you can also take one by sacrificing one of your own cards that will probably not synergize with the enemy's deck at all and you get to pick both the card you're taking as well as the one you're giving just seems like too much to me.

      In a card game vacuum, that makes a lot of sense… but Hearthstone has the problem that Rarran keeps highlighting (the main reason Theotar is so good)… a serious lack of interaction, combined with a fair few decks that rely on key cards to kill you from hand.
      Seeing cards in hand may be nice, but it’s honestly pretty rare that you’ll be able to see a problem card, and then have the capacity to play around it. Not to mention that you’re seeing them through Theotar, so you’ll likely want to just swap it out rather than hatch a plan to play around it.

    That last Hearthstone card might just be one of the best cards in a card game in general to be fair.
    YuGiOh - Choose 3 random cards from both players hands, and then reveal them and choose a card from each to swap
    Absolutely broken. You get to see the Archetype your opponent is running, see 2 pieces of utility or cards they have, disrupt combos and take a piece of a win condition, while also potentially giving them a brick. Insane.
    Runeterra - Would be pretty similar to Hearthstone but with the added benefit of being able to take a CHAMPION away from someone, or literally straight up steal a win condition. You could even pair it with something from Ivonia to bounce a problem card back to hand and then play this and steal the problem card (if you get a little lucky). You could also use this with cards that would benefit you to have your opponent play.
    Shadowverse - Same thing, except you could also steal something that is an essential Evolution piece for their deck, and give them a dud.
    I know it sounds like exaggeration but that card is actually legit broken. I think the only card game it can actually work in IS Hearthstone because even if it is “broken” it’s not game-breaking.
    By the way, I am a lurker, but I do love the vids. Thank you for the content, I do enjoy it, even if it’s silently.

    Chatty Bartender is very good, that's evident from its performance in Wild Secret Mage. There is just not enough synergy in Standard, but as stated in the beginning these cards should be evaluated in a vacuum.

    • @mikejunt
      @mikejunt Рік тому

      They do address its synergy with Ice Block; its not just a question of synergy, but that Ice Block in particular offers you a secret that you know can't be activated for several turns. Absent a return of Ice Block, its unlikely that you'll see another secret that your opponent can never activate in the early game even if they want to. Those kind of conditions are pretty rare.
      IB removes the fail case of having your secret triggered on turn 3 before you can play this; it also allows them to activate your secret after this is played and turn this into a 4 mana deal 2 to all enemies once, which is a fine card but not a particularly broken one. IB is what turns this into "Deal 2 to all enemies after each turn" and makes it into a board domination monster.

    I'll fight for Chatty Bartender here - Secret Mage might not have enough data on it, but I can say that when I've run the decks, Bartender's been pretty darn good. I'll also go to bat for Enrage Warrior, they have Acolyte of Pain for real consistent draw - Kibler's been absolutely rolling people with it too.

    Rarran, the greenthumb saw a ton of play when dropped in voyage because with guff you just straight up gained crystals off miracle growth and scales and such. Just doesn't see play *anymore* because druid swapped from big spells TO pay that off, to low nature spells for topes. Just a meta shift, I'm convinced if druid swapped back to big spells she'd come back. Just need like 1 cenarion ward type

    how does Flick Skyshiv work with Weasel Tunneler? does it kill it, then the weasels get shuffled, or does it shuffle them and then destroy them?

    • @charcharmunr
      @charcharmunr Рік тому +2

      My assumption would be the former. Because the destruction effect happens, then the deathrattle triggers after the fact.

    What’re your thoughts, for experienced card game players. You let them shuffle through the usable cards. Especially for the newer cards, let them shuffle through what cards are available.

    Funny thing about Rattlegore is that I'm pretty sure EVERYONE thought he was gonna be too slow and terrible. (albeit still seeming really cool and unique)
    To everyone's surprise, Rattlegore knew to be extremely nutty.
    Yeah, 9 mana 9/9 isn't usually something to write home about, but when majority of classes can't deal with it? That changes things. Plus, while 9 mana 9/9 could still feel bad vs heavy aggro, there are still some turns in the late game when you genuinely have a spot to play him. Maybe the enemy took a turn to draw, or set up for something next turn, or just play one big minion. Thus throwing Rattlegore into the mix just makes everyone, except Priest, go like "OH FFS", while Priest would usually just go like "Oh no...anyway."
    Also, while Demon Hunter did have that 1 mana Silence spell, and also that one Silence Rush minion that no one really played, it usually didn't do much, since Demon Hunter had HUGE difficulties dealing with just any big minion. So even a silenced Rattlegore was still a 9/9 they had no ways of dealing with. (now they have it easier vs it, but it's still a pain in the ass)

    What if for a video or a couple you had say yourself, a Yu-Gi-Oh player and a Magic player all in the same call where one video is guessing Yu-Gi-Oh cards and you and the Magic player can discuss and choose whether they are good or bad and the other video is you do that with the Yu-Gi-Oh player and magic player and lastly the Magic player does that to you and the Yu-Gi-Oh player. I feel you could get a good amount of content out of it and have the ability to hear discussions with two players that may not play the game very much or at all and get an idea of the thought process each are having in the moment. Either way I really enjoy this series and if my idea doesn't work for one reason or another I at least wanted to give that idea. Have a great day.

    Flik was insane tempo since sometimes you just hit multiple minions on board and even at its WORST it is slightly worse Vilespine Slayer.
    The real POGGERS play though in Galakrond Rogue was hitting this or DQA off Galakrond's battlecry and Flik-ing your own DQA to potentially auto win the game by destroying your opponent's copy in their deck/hand.

    An idea I'd like as an addition to the series - if it's not too much effort - is also telling the guest what people predicted for each card during release season, at least for the really deceptive cards that people got wrong. Like, people thought Rokara and Rattlegore would be straight garbage and both wound up seeing decent amounts of play. I feel like if they get those wrong it's only fair to tell them that so did the Hearthstone playerbase at large.
