There is something so comforting about hearing J open each video with the word "Alright." It truly makes everything feel "all right" if even just for that moment.
When you said you weren't going to cry through this movie, I thought..... hmmmmm famous last words, hahaha. I saw this with my mom, dad and sister not long before the death of my dad, and it was one of the first times I saw tears in my dad's eyes.
This has always been a comfort movie from my childhood, not sure why. The music, the characters, the small little country pumpkin town, the love and the heartache; everything feels so organic, heartwarming and touching. The script alone is beautiful 🥹
Oh man, I am dyin' So many times J got the rug pulled out from under him, only for it to happen again a few seconds later. Then his reaction to the ending. This might be my favorite reaction so far.
J you are killing it with these morning reactions! I work in the evenings so it's awesome to watch before work! BTW your Napoleon Dynamite reaction is my favorite reaction to that movie... you are awesome!
Based on the novel by Fannie Flagg, an amazing Southern storyteller. Her books are wholesome with lots of unexpected twists, full of eccentric characters and always hilarious.
J, I'm usually a Horror guy, but I have such a special nostalgia for this movie. I was 20 when it came out, and I took my Momma to go and see it and we loved it. She's been gone 15 years, and I cherish those memories. Thanks for doing it.
Still one of the greatest movies ever!!!!!!❤ To this day I still say "secrets in the sauce" 😂 Jay's face when he realized the funeral was for Buddy's arm 😂😂😂😂 hilarious
Man this movie I watched 100 times as a kid. Anytime it’s on my mother would watch but damn the death of Ruth has me crying everytime Edit: I cried watching it here. The town reminds me of my childhood hometown. Apparently the book suggested Iggy and Ruth liked each other that way. Idk if it went any further than friendship but it’s clear there’s something more between them.
14:31 she likes likes her, they both like like each other, it is openly showed in the book but the movie relies on subtext (for obvious reasons). But it still is the gayest non gay adaptation of a book ever. It is a 90s hollywood movie so i did not expect much representation, but for what it showed, i do respect it. I repect it because they tried to make it as gay as possible even without being explicit like the book is
well this was a lovely little surprise! thank you ❤ yes, they absolutely were a couple. the book that the movie is based on never stated it outright, but the child ruth had was always referred to as "ruth and idgie's little boy".
I live just south of Atlanta and The Whistle Stop Cafe is about 35-40 minutes further south down in Juliette, GA. It became a pretty popular tourist attraction for fans of the movie. Jessica Tandy was riding high after Driving Miss Daisy (1989) and would continue to work and finish her career with Nobody's Fool (1994).
Hey friend! LOVE your Reactions, but if you haven't yet could you PLZ react to *Steel magnolias, *Terms of endearment or *Split? hope you and the fur babies have an Amazing day 🌺
Terms of Endearment, YES❣️ That hits close to home (terminally ill in hospice care currently). I won’t say anything further as it may be spoilers for the movie but it would make my month if J reacted to it. Steel Magnolias as well is such a southern charm gem. J already reacted to Split 🙂 It would be a nice change of pace for the two other movies to be checked out - especially with the most elite cast of actors and actresses in both of them.
Coming from the south, I love both the movie and the food. We fried everything, and I often crave a big basket of fried green tomatoes, okra, squash, corn fritters and hush puppies Just the sides all fried and served with a little ranch. Can't eat that way now I'm pushing 40, but I can taste it in my dreams
I am not from the south, but I have had fried green tomatoes. And if you don’t like red tomatoes, you probably would like fried green tomatoes. Some years ago, I took green tomatoes and sliced them thin and put them on my dehydrator and made tomato chips or dried green tomatoes. I made a pesto of basil, oregano, and fresh garlic, and put that on some of the tomatoes before drying them. Talk about good eating! That was some good eating
20:24 "He's mean cuz his daddy is his brother" 😂😂 Ngl no matter how times i watch this movie it always gets me 😢 I think the elderly women is Idgy, she went and got the honey and put it on Ruth's grave before Evelyn got there.
She’s not Idgie. She introduces herself as Ninny Threadgoode & clearly says she was married to Idgie’s brother, Cleo. The book makes it clear that Ninny & Idgie are two different people. Ninny was adopted by the Threadgoode’s after she was orphaned at the age of 9. She married Idgie’s brother Cleo when he came home after going to school to be a chiropractor. At the end of the book Idgie & Julian are in Florida selling fruit & honey at a roadside stand.
This was literally the first movie that ever almost made me cry. There was a segment of the show 20/20 where some adopted Vietnamese children saw their birth parents for the first time in 20 years. They were adopted by Americans and they flew to Vietnam to see their parents. That was a real tear jerker.
When I first watched this movie, my mouth dropped when I realized that Mrs. Thredgood was the Bee Charmer and Idgy telling this story. As always..... enjoyed your reaction. Great movie.
I’m your biggest fan. 🤣 Dude, seriously give fried green tomatoes an honest try. I don’t eat tomatoes except as salsa or pizza sauce, but I love a good fried green tomato.
Many thanks for the re-upload, Blank! This is one of my favorite reactions ever - JL's quick wit and compassion on full display here for a beloved film (and book) from my youth.
You keep plugging away at the best movies in my opinion!! Thank you for sharing your reaction videos, you wonderful personality ans your precious fur babies!! May God bless, protection, watch over, you/your babies and your family as a whole, my brother ❤
Getting here 8 seconds after you uploaded is wild haha I love this movie! It's my grandmas favorite and definitely up they're for me! Kathy's character has the same name as me which was always cool lol and it was always funny to me that this is my slightly homophobic grandma's favorite movie because idgy and Ruth are SUPER lesbian coded 😂😂😂
Always feels good to be a part of the early gang 😊 This is one of my favorites because of my grandmother who just happens to have the name “Wanda” so “TOOWAANDAAA” was her phrase and she made it her own. Even said it on her deathbed to the doctors - she was a 🧨 - I think all of us have an endearment for certain films thanks to family members/friends and then we always have a special little association with them everytime we watch them. It’s a gift, in it’s own special way 💝
Fannie Flagg was an actress, comedian and author. She wrote the book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. It was later optioned to make this movie because of the 2 stories. The story between Everlyn and Mrs. Threadgoode and Idgie and Ruth. And how Frank Bennett died.
If you love Kathy Bates, you gotta watch Dolores Claiborne. Her acting is amazing in it. I won’t say more except that it’s a dark movie, just so you know the vibe before diving in if you choose to.
this movie got EOM turned into EOMJ 15:24 hahhaha i am so glad you reacted to this. you have reacted to some great movies but this is one of the classics! you've had over 100 more likes from the time i started watching the reaction til the end and if this reaction don't get you to 100k subscribers it should be a crime! as always, enjoyed your reaction! peace @eom reacts
They like each other like other in the book but only like each other in the film. lol…the powers to be in 1991 didn’t think people were ready for girl on girl in a movie. Also some people boil the meat before they bar-b-q it. That’s what is in the pot, boiling meat.
Funny Was just talking to a lady I work with about this movie yesterday. I never saw it. She mentioned a dude got made into bbq. I said “what the hell kinda movie is that?” Lookin at it now, this looks like one of those old time wholesome movies. Kinda movie you don’t often see anymore.
Grady wasn’t bad. He was warning her about these guys. He couldn’t do what he wanted to do or say what he wanted to say. Not in those days. He really seems crazy about Ruth and Idgy
In the book he worked security at the train station & would tell Idgie when shipments of food were coming through so she’d know which trains to hop to throw food to the homeless. Grady was a good guy except for stepping out on his wife.
A man of mine would think twice before he did it & if he did I can guarantee it wouldn’t happen again. I learned from my mother how to deal with such men & it’s always a good story to tell any perspective beaus. It’s not a pretty story but it gets the point across pretty good. My mother’s 2nd husband & his girlfriend got the “point” before they even knew she was there. And when he was finally was released he found out the bank accts were closed, his name was removed from the deed & the title of the car. His clothes were in the trash & divorce papers were served the next day at his parents house. SOB only got the clothes he was wearing & whatever change was in the pockets. Even the girlfriend dropped him after my mom walked into her house in the middle of the night & went after them while they were in bed. But to be fair I’m fairly certain that would be a dealbreaker for most people.
I married my husband in 1980. No phones or anything. I was a traveling rodeo queen pulling a horse trailer and lost at least once a day. I am directionally challenged to say the least. My dad used to tell my husband that the only reason I married him was that he is an encyclopedia of the atlas. Guy can get anywhere from anywhere anytime without have having been there before. Amazing. I am consistently lost. Mostly because I’m singing or thinking and end up two hours past my turn. Shameful!!! Hahaha Been married 40 years and I still call him instead of using a map or phone. Just easier now with a phone.
Big George is played by Stan Shaw he also played the character Toomer Smalls in the movie The Great Santini (1979) with Robert Duval Just be aware this movie hasa scene that will probably tear u to peices. You'll cuss me for the suggestion but also thank me in the same breath.

About 20 years ago on a very windy day I was picking up my mother and sister from the train station, and my mother had a hat box that fell, and when it fell in the parking lot, the wind swept it away, and I had to chase this hat box that was blown across the parking lot. It was like a comedy scene that hat box kept getting away from me.
Alabama, story written by Fannie Flagg and the Whistle Stop is now in Iron dale AL, right near the tracks. I grew up watching Fannie Flagg on local morning TV In Birmingham.
Mary-Louise Parker, the woman who played Ruth, is one of my favorite actresses. You would probably like "The Client", with her, Susan Sarandon, and Tommy Lee Jones. It's fire!❤
Love this movie, and I'm just saying, you ever drop down here to TN, there's a Whistlestop Cafe about 20 minutes from me in Baxter, pretty solid food and they have live music. Right next to the old train station, I think a lot of train towns had a Whistlestop.
Speaking of the actual food, fried green tomatoes are one of my favorite things when they're fixed the right way. It's the only way I'll even eat tomatoes. J, I'm a little surprised you've never had them, being from my area.
I live in GA about 20 miles from Whistle Stop Cafe. They make the best fried green tomatoes. A friend of mune bought up yhis movie set and made it into a tourist stop! Jay, you would love it here. Great place to visit!
There is something so comforting about hearing J open each video with the word "Alright."
It truly makes everything feel "all right" if even just for that moment.
When you said you weren't going to cry through this movie, I thought..... hmmmmm famous last words, hahaha. I saw this with my mom, dad and sister not long before the death of my dad, and it was one of the first times I saw tears in my dad's eyes.
OMG I immediately dropped what I was doing and came to watch. I know you are going to love this movie! I am so excited! 🤩🤩🤩
Me too. Didn’t know this was coming.
Same!
Exactly. Just got the notice. I'm here. ❤
Same!!! Fabulous movie ❤
J fried green tomatoes are delicious! Don't think just try them!
The book makes their relationship quite clear
You need to watch Driving Miss Daisy! Morgan Freeman, Dan Aykroyd and Jessica Tandy (the little old lady in this) are fabulous
Agreed!!
Yes!
This has always been a comfort movie from my childhood, not sure why. The music, the characters, the small little country pumpkin town, the love and the heartache; everything feels so organic, heartwarming and touching. The script alone is beautiful 🥹
To this day I still use the “TOWAAANDAA” 😅 My grandmother whom passed years ago was named Wanda and she was a pistol all the way to the end 🕊️
4:41 Jessica Tandy. Legendary. From Driving Miss Daisy. 😊
Aw, I love Fried Green Frank . . . I mean Tomatoes. 😏
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hiya Dame.
Oh man, I am dyin' So many times J got the rug pulled out from under him, only for it to happen again a few seconds later. Then his reaction to the ending. This might be my favorite reaction so far.
God revisiting this movie at 40 hits different
I was 12 first time I saw it and seeing it in ones 40's truly does hit differently.

I'm here for it J ... So happy you are watching this one. A masterpiece for sure. I met the young girl playing this part. She was humble.
Interesting choice for Slasher Saturday. Well there are knives in it 😅
Absolutely dropped everything to watch! Oh I love this movie so much.

Secrets in the sauce...😂😂
Great movie choice! I had a teenage crush on Mary Stuart Masterson so hard ever since I saw Some Kind of Wonderful (you should see that!).
I just watched this the other day!! This movie is so great! Kathy Bates is so good😍
2:47 - “I ain’t crying this week.”
You sure about that?! 😏
(After watching your reaction) Okay, you held it in.
Boyyyyy I been waiting for this one.that movie has more ups and downs and twists and turns than an Arkansas highway.awesome reaction.

Idgie is the old lady ❤❤
Idgie was her "nickname "...😉👍🏼!!!
No, she’s not. She clearly said when she met Evelyn that she was married to Cleo Threadgood, Idgie’s brother.
Except that she's not.
I too had suspicion that Ruth and Iggy were lovers.
One of my favorite movies!
If you liked this , try this movei called "The War," it stars Kevin Costner and a young Elija Wood.
U can cut every hair off my head but I aint telling you ding didly ding didly ding dang dong.

The Libnickys!
The Whistlestop Café is still open today. Town looks just like it did in the movie. Went in there and got of course fried green tomatoes.
Funny

Such a wholesome movie , Had a good giggle at the 22 songs remark lol I forgot all about this movie and was great watching with you.

The secret’s in the sauce baby!
We have a whistle stop cafe in Alabama. Great food!
Deja Vu?? We watched this movie already.
Growing up the older women around me like my mother and her friends would shout To Wanda constantly and I still do it now. ❤ this movie so much.
We all know the feeling of someone stealing our parking space. If only we could do what she did!
Ugh one if my all time favorites, I cry everytime, such a beautiful film
J the reason im even watching this! Always heard the title growing up but todays the day lets go Kathy Bates!
You're so sweet. You have a good heart, J❤
I'm so glad you reacted to this, it's such a beautiful film ❤
Loved your reaction and YES the were gay. It needed to be toned down due to the era, but the book was clear. One of my all time favorites! 💖💕💖😘
My favorite Jessica Tandy movies is this one, Driving Miss Daisy and Cocoon. ❤
Ahhhh! I wanted CinePals to watch this one too!! So glad you’re watching. 🥰
Thank you for brightening my day! This is one of my favorites. I have the book but haven’t started it yet. I just finished reading “The Help.”
Big George is played by Stan Shaw he also played the character Toomer Smalls in the movie The Great Santini (1979) with Robert Duval
Just be aware this movie hasa scene that will probably tear u to peices. You'll cuss me for the suggestion but also thank me in the same breath.
Kentucky Boys 4 life
I also suggested the great Santini during the secondhand lions reaction.
Great movie and great reaction!
And there were two BIG actresses in here. The great Jessica Tandy ("the old lady") and the great Cecily Tyson (the old woman who killed Frank)
Thank you.
Fabulous reaction ❤👏👏 I loved how you got into it. Tawanda!!!! The secret is in the sauce. 😂😂😂
You gotta do 'Dolores Claiborne'
When I was a teenager in the early 90's me & my friends used to go fishing at that dam every weekend.
The first video I watched this morning. Soon as I saw Fried Green tomatoes I was like yep good way to start the day. I absolutely love this movie ❤
I didn’t realize until now that this was released after Kathy Bates’ oscar winning performance in misery the year before.
Whistlestop cafe is still open in juliet, ga
Alabama, story written by Fannie Flagg and the Whistle Stop is now in Iron dale AL, right near the tracks. I grew up watching Fannie Flagg on local morning TV In Birmingham.
“he’s mad cuz his daddy is his brother!”😂😂😂
Btw That was Miss Cecily Tyson - who hit Frank Bennett with a skillet! One of the greatest actresses ever. Same age range as Billy Dee Williams.
23:11 Forgot to bleep that one and I am here for it staying in. XD
Driving Ms. Daisy is next right? Jessica Tandy, older Iggy here, plays in that one with Morgan Freeman. So good!
I laughed way too hard at "He's mad at you cuz his Daddy's his brother!" 🤣🤣
...I miss Jessica Tandy & Hume Cronyn. Great actors, cute couple.
She had another great role in "Deloris Clayborne". Amazing actress !!
They are from Alabama but it was filmed in Juliette GA
Mary-Louise Parker, the woman who played Ruth, is one of my favorite actresses. You would probably like "The Client", with her, Susan Sarandon, and Tommy Lee Jones. It's fire!❤

Oh god i cry EVERYTIME. 😭😭😭
Mary-Loise Parker also plays the.mom in the Netflex series "Weeds". It's a fun ride
