For all of the people complaining about the monologue at the end not being shown in full, PLEASE understand that this was not by choice.
Whole lot of people in the comments acting like this is a horrible failure of a reaction all because we could not include things that were copyright flagged. That monologue is the main reason this reaction was blocked and taken down the first time, and there was simply no way to include it.
Feel free to criticize and leave opinions on the edits. But please, do understand what you’re talking about if you’re gonna say something about a reaction I spent *literally* dozens of hours and attempts to get watchable.
Short version: Be happy this video is up again at all, because there is NOTHING more I could have done to get any more included on this reaction.
So, for everyone enjoying, I’m more than happy you’re enjoying. For the ones whining about this reaction all because something wasn’t included that we tried to get in, when you have NO idea how much work went into this one, and accuse me of being lazy, go kick rocks.

Small town cops had a problem with Vietnam vets for a couple of reasons, 1 because they stayed at home while the vets were fighting and felt insecure because of that,2 because a lot of Vietnam vets came back and became hippies because of what they went through and cops hated hippies , that’s why he said something about Rambo cutting his hair, the movie is about police brutality and the discrimination of outcasts

I think the biggest problem with Rambo is the same problem that both Star Wars and Star Trek are suffering through...too much parody and people believe the parody is the real way the character is. For example, in Rambo 2, after trying to rescue the POWs, getting abandoned by Murdock (his commanding officer), getting caught and tortured by the Russians and Vietnamese, seeing the woman he loved get killed, and finally making it back to base with the POWs in tow, a pissed off Rambo grabs a gun and blows away Murdock's computers (which he'd bragged about were so great earlier in the film but really were pretty useless). In his fit of rage, Rambo points his gun skyward and roars while shooting off rounds. Pretty cool, pretty badass scene if we're being honest. However, that scene has been parodied and made fun of by so many different forms of media, that now people look at the Rambo character and think "Oh, he's just a mindless meathead muscle guy who shoots guns randomly everywhere while screaming like an idiot!" That's not really Rambo at all. He's always been pretty quiet when not in action, and even then, Rambo prefers to quietly ambush and/or trap his enemies over just jumping out, screaming, and firing his gun all over the place. I think that's why First Blood surprises so many people. They are prepared for the dumb muscle guy, but instead get a very serious, sad, and intense movie about PTSD, suffering, and loss.

The Vietnam War protesters here in the states, while the intent may have been commendable, went too far in their activism. Not much has changed in that department.

There's no real evidence that spitting on soldiers ever happened.
What we have are anecdotes. Primarily from right-wing groups with a vested interest in villainizing anti-war activists.
Rambo, the character in First Blood, at least the original book, was about the negative impacts of war on combat veterans, and the communities they were unfortunately left to survive in.
That ending monologue, despite being good acting, wasn't the intent of the novel as written.

    Taken from a Reddit review:
In the book, as with Rambo, Teasle is a veteran, who enlisted age 18 in the Marines to fight in the Korean War. Like Rambo, he experienced the horrors of combat; like him, he covered himself in military glory at the Chosin Reservoir. Like him, Teasle returned home to nothing, unsure of how to deal with his experiences and personal trauma. But this is where Teasle and Rambo diverge. Where Rambo dropped out, Teasle invested.
Teasle’s war record and experience make him a shoo-in for the police department, which he translates into a long and satisfying career, quickly becoming head of the Sheriff’s department. He channels his angst, grief, and loneliness into his career, then gets off work every day to build his own house by hand, reveling in how good it feels to construct something permanent and valuable. He falls in love with a local woman- genuinely falls in love, not merely settles- and gets married. He maintains close ties with his foster parents who he lived with before going to war. He becomes a pillar of his community.
But Teasle does have something else in common with Rambo at the start of the novel; he can’t keep what he wants intact. Rambo’s desire to be free of all obligations to society is consistently denied to him because he’s a vulnerable drifter getting hassled everywhere he goes. But in the last few years, Teasle’s investment in his community has been going sour.
Teasle’s wife leaves him to go stay with her sister in LA; it is very likely he’ll be getting a letter from a divorce lawyer pretty soon. He got into a fight with his foster Dad over something dumb and they haven’t talked in months. The loneliness is coming back. All he has in the job that he takes pride in. He drills his men to make sure they’re capable and professional officers, determined to make sure his town has the best police it possibly can. He takes what pride he can in knowing that he can at least keep his little section of the world orderly and clean by being Johnny on the Spot if any trouble pops up in his town.
So, Teasle, ultimately feels he cannot give up in his pursuit against Rambo because he would be giving up on his ideals and accomplishments.
The movie never addresses the character's background, so it in essence makes him a bad guy out of seemingly nowhere.

Based on a best-selling novel from 1972 by David Morrell and released in the same year as Rocky III.
The beginning of Sly's 2nd iconic film series and he hadn't intended to make it so.
This first installment adapts the novel with balances of the emotion, suspense and action.
Looking at the realism of soldiers at war with themselves.
PTSD is nothing to play with and soldiers of such woes deserve to heal.
Through Rambo's eyes we see the mistreatment of vietnam veterans, uncalled for actions by corrupt, ignorant opposition.
Someone on the humble being forced to not back down and fight back.
Rambo's struggle and presence definitely gave this town something to think about.
This is one of Stallone's best as actor, writer and another screen icon in his career.
The late Richard Crenna as Col. Trautman was perfect casting.
He put a face on what makes him Rambo's mentor and only real friend.
The sequels do make Rambo more of an action hero.
But to purely understand the mind of such a character is to always remember where it all started.
Both endings of FB part 1, original and alternate are incomparable.

Fun fact. Stallone is a pretty prolific knife collector the first two Rambo movies featured knives by Jimmy Lile, the next two (and all the Expendables movies) by Gil Hibben. Part 5 was from Dietmar Pohl of Pohl Force. And Cobra had both Herman Schneider and Michael Walker knives.

There's another film in the same vein, called Hunted (2003), with Benicio Del Toro, and Tommy Lee Jones.
That said, the ending of First Blood is a complete turnaround. People didn't expect it, but it might just be Stallone's most important work, because it finally got those Vietnam vets the attention they desperately needed.
If you haven't already, you might want to see Red Dawn (1984) - another important film of the generation.

Stallone has fame, is known for his “action hero” roles but think he’s often overlooked for his acting skills. His creative writing of “Rocky” should be enough, then add it to this film he’s more than that. The breakdown of Rambo at the end, is so well done. I believe that scene helped so many Vietnam vets to start the healing process. Hey Jay, have another great Stallone filme for you, think it’s one of his best roles & shows his versatility as an actor; “Oscar”. It’s a gangster film with an excellent script, top tier cast & I promise you’ll love it. Take care man!

You'll still get some people who think Stallone is just another of those 80's action muscleheads. Then you get to that ending and you see he can actually act. I'm still more of a fan of Rambo when he is action hero like in Rambo 2 compared to this movie, but this one everyone needs to watch.

At the end of thr original novel, Trautman takes Rambo's head off with a shotgun, as he was the only one who could get that close to him.
In the original deleted ending of the movie, after Rambo hugs Trautman, Rambo takes Trautman's sidearm, hands it to him and begs Trautman to kill him. Trautman refuses and tries to holster his sidearm, Rambo tries to pull Trautman's arm back towards himself, the gun goes off and Rambo is shot in the gut, killing him. This ending footage was later used in 'John Rambo', where it wakes Rambo from a dream about Trautman (made up of flashbacks from the previous films).

"They drew first blood, not me!"
Fun Fact: The role of "Radio Operator" was played by assistant director Craig Huston.
Action Star Fact: Brian Dennehy did his own stunt when Teasle falls through the ceiling of the police station. The actor shattered his ribs when he landed.
Mystery Actress Fact: The actress who played Delmar Barry's widow/mother (it is not made clear which she is) was surprisingly never credited for her small but vital speaking role, nor has ever been identified to date.
Shout-Out Fact: According to Sylvester Stallone in the DVD commentary, the names of the people on Rambo's team in Vietnam (as read by Col. Trautman (Richard Crenna)) are actually names of various people of the film's crew, including make-up artist Michael Westmore and costume designer Tom Bronson.
Art Before Ego Fact: Sylvester Stallone hated the first cut of the film so much that he tried to buy the film back and destroy it. When he couldn't do that, he suggested that the producers cut much of his part and let the rest of the characters tell the story. That cut the movie time in half and set a precedent for future action movies.
Epic Wardrobe Fact: The large piece of rotten canvas that Rambo finds in the woods and cuts into a makeshift coat was in fact not a movie prop, but a real piece of rotten canvas found by the film crew during the movie's production. Since there was only one piece, Sylvester Stallone joked about how the canvas became a treasured prop on the set. After filming ended, Stallone kept the rotten canvas and still has it in his possession to this very day.
Lost In Adaptation Fact: The first name John was given to Sylvester Stallone's character for the movie. In David Morrell's novel, the character is known only as Rambo. Also the iconic knife that Rambo carries is not mentioned in the novel. In the novel, Rambo murders people left and right while the movie version tries to avoid killing anyone. In the novel, Rambo has long hair and a fully grown beard. In the film, he has long hair and stubble. David Morrell, the author of the original novel, stated that he prefers this film over his novel.
