      @@johnnyskinwalker4095 Sansa playing Baelish was prob one of the only things I liked about season 7 because there was enough shown for me to believe it. When Sansa watches Brienne and Arya train together, Baelish is standing next to her and I can assume this is where he first gets the idea. Then he spends the rest of the seasons patiently nurturing that seed, gently nudging the idea, but never flat out saying “Arya is a threat” until the scene where he says the “sometimes when I’m trying to understand a persons motives-“ bit. Then Sansa is certain that he’s trying to divide them from there. She starts pretending to be “in his pocket”, ordering Brienne away from her and taking his counsel left and right again. Sansa doesn’t trust anyone anymore; it didn’t bother me that she didn’t confide in Arya or Brienne while turning the tides against Baelish, especially Arya whom she hasn’t seen in years. She (Sansa) believed that she could outwit one of the cleverest people in Westeros without anyones help… and she did.
      I’m not saying you have to enjoy it as much as I do, I’m just explaining myself. It didn’t feel nearly as out of left field as some of the events to come in season 8, at least to me.

    • @johnnyskinwalker4095

      @@TheRedcat14 It was completely unrealistic and badly written. Arya never want to be a princess. It was easy to see even from his point of view. She is a pure tomboy. Also all the made up conflict between the two, Baelish was not in the room so it was pointless to have them be in a made up conflict. Also it was stupid on Sansa to send Brienne away JUST AFTER Baelish said to her to keep Brienne close to protect her against Baelish, it gives him a clue. Then there was the Scoobe Doo reveal, YOU are the bad guy! lol And the trial which was a real joke. He could have easily destroyed their cases ten times over he is so smart, he would have had ten plans to get himself out for if such a thing would happen. The guy has many spies everywhere on Westeros(and Essos).
      The Worst of all of this is that the Baelish written by GRRM would NEVER wasted his time on Sansa and Arya. He has larger plans. By Season 7, it was evident that D & D wanted to get rid of Baelish quickly and he just sat around doing nothing other than pitting two girls against each other for no reason. Baelish was the Game of Thrones but these two bozos did not have the imagination to give him good material.
      They simply did not understand Baelish. When they have Baelish say "I see myself on the Iron Throne and you buy my side" to Sansa it's evident that D & D completely misunderstood the real Baelish of the early seasons. Baelish is smart to understand that power lies in the shadows where he's the best at. The actor Aidan Gillen even said that very thing that the Throne doesn't interest him. So he got Baelish more than the writers.

      @@johnnyskinwalker4095 “Arya is a tomboy” are you saying this to discredit the fight scene? Because the only reason I mention it; Petyr sees what she’s capable of here, he can now say “she’s a physical threat to you”. (To Sansa).
      “Baelish wasn’t in the room so it’s pointless”, I’m assuming you mean Arya and Sansa arguing about the letter Sansa wrote. This wasn’t acting. Arya wasn’t in on the plan against Baelish yet; only Sansa. Sansa wasn’t about to risk her plan on Arya’s ability to “act angry with her”. Arya is actually angry.
      Sansa sends Brienne away because she knows this will put Petyr at ease. Brienne has been outspoken against him from the moment they meet onscreen, and she’s been Sansa’s closest council.
      And the “scooby doo moment” was Sansa getting him in front of a crowded room of people who know his past actions, so he can’t squirm his way to freedom through lies. (Just as he tries to do, “your aunt was a troubled woman”, “I’ve cared for you since you were a child”, “if we could just talk alone”.)
      I thought maybe you’d bring some points to the table

      @@TheRedcat14 "Are you saying this to discredit the fight scene" lol no I mean looking at her nobody would think she would want to be a princess like Sansa. So it doesn't make sense how Baelish would ever think that Arya want to be Sansa. I remember him saying to Cat that he had Arya and she was "as wild as ever". And he knows Sansa knows Arya and there's no way Sansa would believe that.
      Arya and Sansa were arguing all the time even after the plan was in motion. And there was nobody to see it.
      Sending Brienne away won't put Baelish at ease since he's the one who suggested that Brienne should protect Sansa. If I'm Baelish, I'm actually start questioning it.
      About the Scoobe Do moment, I understand why Sansa did it, just that the way it was written was corny as Hell. It was....you Lord Baelish! Now take off your mask. The trial following that was bad because Sansa had no way to prove anything. So they killed someone without proof. I wished GRRM would have written it and we would have seen a competent Baelish being defeated fair and square and but a lot of Sansa's accusations were actually easily beatable. Like for instance she talked about Baelish pushing Lysa. But Sansa at the Vale told that it's Lysa that jumped. Baelish could have easily said "but she jumped, you said it yourself, Sansa. Do you mean that you lied?". Even Bran talking about Baelish betraying Ned, there is no proof. I bet none of these people even believe that Bran has powers.

    “A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing” was an expression of maester amens empathy and sorrow at the thought of his family being alone and isolated from one another. It didn’t mean alone targaryeans are terrifying and insane. It was not meant to foreshadow dany going crazy. The 7 kingdoms could be super peaceful, ruled by the best king that's ever been, she'd still show up with dragons and start a war because she feels like it belongs to her. Viserys from season 1 (paraphrasing) “…they’ve never shown me the love they just showed her in that tent. Not even once.” (When Drogo was promising to take the world for his son).
    Danny has had the support of “the people”/the public for basically the shows runtime at this point. We’ve grown so accustomed to rooting for her and expecting the world to, that when everyone starts to betray her; us, the audience, can really feel her isolation now.
    Just like you said; she went out of her way to help and save the North because that’s the person she is… and in return? She gets stabbed in the back. The more I rewatch it the more I realize this is unironically an excellent episode. The tension, the drama, the goodbyes, the blow off, the sense of treachery, the heartbreak, all of it hits right in the fucking feels. Dany's is a long telegraphed parable for the lusture of power and end justifying the means. Yeah the Dany turn could've been done differently, but let's be real. What actually made most of them angry wasn't the crudeness of the turn, it was the "I rooted for her so long for this?" factor. It's the heart-rending way the script is flipped on Cersei and Jaime and Valonqar. It was the old regime suddenly feeling more humane with those visuals of Lannister soldiers desperately ushering people to safety. It was the level of unexpected brutality unleashed by the heroes(TM) in conquering a city. It was the psychology of war at its purest form. We've seen pictures of liberated Dresden or Mosul and it's not all that different. It takes a lot out of you emotionally. It only speaks to the level of investment people had on this show for them to be that bothered. If something happening in a TV show can make people this angry, then its existence is justified.

Somehow when Jon said these things in his first meeting with Dany no one objected. They applauded Jon for not bending the knee to her. Let's really look into Tyrion's intelligence. That much ridiculed topic. The poor outcome of his decisions does not diminish the internal struggle that Tyrion has to go through.Tyrion hedged his bet on Dany to make the world a more just place. He knew she was an imperfect vessel and still in his misplaced hubris, he believed he could mold her into a perfect one. The first conversation Tyrion had with Dany was him telling her "stopping the wheel, it's a beautiful dream" and Dany replying "I'm not going to stop the wheel. I'm going to break the wheel". From then on it's a constant pattern of Tyrion counselling Dany to be moderate, even at military costs (like losing Casterly Rock). Because despite himself, Tyrion always knew he's made a deal with the devil and all his focus was in averting the impending disaster. It's *hard to be portrayed as charming and witty when the point of your character is a slow and painful disillusionment* . You can look at it as, "Tyrion lost his wits. It's not the same Tyrion who was dunking on Cersei and Janos Slynt". Or you can look at it as a broken man's losing (but honorable) battle to prevent the inevitable. Tyrion tries his best to stop a demagogue from taking power, a demagogue he himself had enabled, and in the process Tyrion dies a moral death.

    Sansa became a politician (quiet a good one). She learned the game well. And she doesn't only care about her family, she cares about the North and its independence. So telling Tyrion might not be the honorable thing but in her eyes maybe the right one. Also Varys. He always cared only for the fate of the realm, and he wants the right ruler for it. Comparing Jon's and Daenerys's kind of leading makes his decision, and I can also understand him. Especially when you look at the family history of the Tagaeryens and the state Daenerys was in. He knew he would die for this decision.
    Regarding Daenerys and Greyworm - they wanted vengeance. They lost everything beforehand. Remember Missandei yelling "Dracarys"? That's what she is doing. But vengeance is a bad advisor. It overwhelms her. And don't forget, she always had a knack for ruthlessness, mercy rarely was her trait. It was mostly her advisors who persuaded her otherwise then. And they are all gone now.

    - It was COMPLETELY unnecessary for Dany to kill all the civilians after they’d surrendered (not buying the psychological argument here)
    - why didn’t she head directly to the red keep?
    - this was Cercei’s defence plan? Her standing there and crying was a pathetic way to end her journey.
    - the Hound and Mountain battle was one of the better elements of the episode but it was obvious fan service
    - Arya spent YEARS pursuing her vengeance to kill Cercei, only to be sweet talked out of it once she got there, by the Hound??? NO WAY!
    - Cercei’s death scene is pathetic
    I don’t care about fan service, I don’t care about subverting expectations - it was ALWAYS John Snow’s character arc to kill the Night King and it was always Arya’s character arc to kill Cercei. I will forever feel robbed that these didn’t happen in the way they should have.

      3) Sometimes you just run out of plans and just stare lost on a balcony. Like Ceausescu.
      4) It was a mockery of fan service. A pointless battle which solves nothing, highlighting the absolute futility of vengeance. An eye for an eye. It's not even subtle.
      5) Yeah, I guess all those scenes where she bonded with the Hound, who very much acted like a father figure, were just for show.
      6) Cersei's death is only pathetic if you imagine her to be a villain, because you hate her and wanted her to suffer. Instead, she is presented as a frail woman trying to forever act tough and cling to power thinking it would keep her safe and now the whole world is crumbling around her. What you really hate is that in her last moments Cersei found someone who loved her and forgave her.

    So the thing is, showrunners wanted to make Sansa so "clever" and "experienced" for this last season that they literally made her clairvoyant, but didn't give an explanation, so instead of looking smart, she feels like she just loves causing trouble.
    What was intended is (I think) this: she feels that something is off with Daenerys, and she will be right eventually, showing her intelligence. But we didn't get an explanation why she feels this. So a bit of backstory: the Mad King wasn't actually mad first. He was a fairly cool dude with great ambitions, just like Dany. He went mad slowly, thanks to treason, imprisonment, illness, possible torture and mistrust. He started to turn towards legends, believing that he was a dragon like his ancestors. There is also a prophecy in the picture that led to an unhappy marriage (The Mad King and his wife/sister) and the "kidnapping" of Lyanna Stark. At the end, he wasn't himself anymore. After the Starks spoke up against Rhaegar (who at that time already took Lyanna), Aerys (the Mad King) summoned the head of House Stark and his heir to King's Landing (Ned's father and brother), and burned the father to death while the brother strangled himself trying to save his father. Now, back to present time, Sansa sees Aerys in Daenerys. The daughter of the man who killed her grandfather and uncle, the sister of the man who kidnapped her aunt. And the woman who now wants to take her "brother" and concour her newly freed kingdom. Dany might have looked like a good person, but after Joffrey, Cersei and Littlefinger, Sansa could not trust any outsiders even if they acted nice.
    So Sansa has reasons, it's just poorly executed. The same with Daenerys. She had this agressive side in her the whole time (killing the slavers without trial, etc), almost always restrained by her advisors. But this season all her advisors either died or left their brains somewhere in Essos to progress that same madness her father developped in dozens of years, so for most fans it feels rushed (because it is), or unjustified

    I feel like if this season wasn't so rushed, the decisions made as far as the story goes would have been better received. Speaking as someone who loved the story and the plot points and hated the fact it was so rushed, I believe the decisions made sense and, had they been more developed, the actual pay-off would have been great to say the least. I know I'm in the vast minority here, but I watched the show 5 times and each time I saw more and more breadcrumbs leading to the ending, I genuinely think it made sense for the story and thr characters. Game of Thrones was never a happy show, and the ending was a tragic one, exactly what the show had set up. It wasnever about the big moments, people sometimes died unfairly and alone, not in the most action-packed scene you could find ( take Stannis or Robb, unceremonial deaths that happened because), exactly like Jaime and Cersei, in my opinion at least.

John has never sought power, but time and again has been chosen by the people, and he has always done what is best for them with honor to the best of his ability. Dany has tried to help people and do good things, but since season 1 her main goal has been her sitting on the throne ruling Westeros. Someone not seeking power but again and again being chosen by his followers to lead and do so with honor is what the realm needs, his path is truly selfless where as Danys is based on her selfish desire to be queen, however much good she thinks she can do.

    Sansa is very misunderstood at this point in the show and it kills me how more people don't talk about this. She didn't just dislike Dany for random reasons, it's all about power for Sansa. Who were the main influences in Sansa's life as she grew up in King's Landing? Cersei and Littlefinger, who are VERY skilled at gaining and maintaining power. Sansa sees the threat to her power that Dany poses and she is fighting for herself. She is way more ruthless than anyone gives her credit for. At the battle of Winterfell, she allowed Jon to send his men in outnumbered and get slaughtered without telling him that she sent for the knights of the Vale. This was a POWER MOVE and it shifted power from Jon to her. She was more than a little shook at how skilled Arya had become and the fact that Brienne supported Arya as well; this was also a threat to her power. I believe she loves her family, but like Cersei, she needs power to survive this world and she will make those moves to get it, ESPECIALLY against a Targaryen with 2 armies, dragons, and no intentions to support Sansa's interests in keeping Winterfell as the sovereign ruling seat of the North.

Jon went and bent the knee because he fell for Dany but Sansa represented the people of the North who didn't asked to be ruled by anyone else. Sansa definitely pulled a Littlefinger here and that pushed alot of extremes. I'll never understand why people blame Sansa for the decisions Daenerys makes. Besides ... yes I can well understand that Daenerys is devastated to have lost two dragons, Jorah, Missandei as well as Jon's love, but this is NEVER a reason to burn thousands of innocent people. As I have written before, it has long been clear that Daenerys would go to the dark side, as she has always done when something did not go her way. If anyone gave her the slightest bit of resistance, she executed them. Over on Essos, people were either against her (sons of the Harpy for example) or 1000% on her side and it is dangerous to have a queen who does not tolerate that people have a different opinion than her. One last thing I want to say is that Daaenerys has always talked about the throne being her birthright and that is why she should sit on it, but as soon as she finds out that there is someone who has an even greater claim to sit there, then she gets hypocritical and wants Jon to keep it to himself. Im not a Dany-hater, I loved her in the first couple of seasons, but I think it was around season 3 that I could sense her state of mind and began to fear what the end resultat would be.

      Bravo. I agree with everything you just said. I was a Dany fan too for the first 3 seasons. But in Season 4, I started to see her in a different light. I saw that she was very intolerant of other opinions. She had to constantly be talked out of burning and killing people by the likes of Jorah, Selmy and now Tyrion. As I've said before, her sense of entitlement is much stronger than her sense of what is good and fair. Her hunger for power drives her more than any compassion she may have for the people. As another reactor brilliantly stated "Dany is how a bad person describes good" It's a shame that you can't seem to voice a negative opinion against any popular character without being labeled a "hater". But such are the times we live in.

      No Essos is not a good example. She didn't mind people disagreeing with her but rather how they went about it. The Sons of the Harpy murdered her men and council, people who pledged their life to her. She couldn't let that slide. That leads to dissention among the ranks. Having a leader who is willing to fight back/avenge you instills loyalty. She doesn't get hypocritical. She gets scared that even though she has all these accomplishments, a loyal army, dragons etc it can be undone by something as simple and insignificant as a penis. That's why she wanted Jon to keep it a secret. It can unravel everything she worked for and fought for.

    • @shawnneurohr6198
      @shawnneurohr6198 2 роки тому +3

      Uhh you do realize the type of world they’re living in right ? It isn’t sunshine and rainbows. She can’t win a war and rule by asking politely for everyone to be on her side. People going against her (like the harpy’s) leads to her own men getting killed, rebellions, and people trying to kill her. She tolerated people having different opinions unless it threatened her life or ability to rule. She could have easily seized power much earlier in the show but delayed it to help as many people as she could and she got betrayed for it. And she’s not hypocritical, it was her life long dream and goal to get the iron throne and has suffered and fought for it. She knows it’s not important Jon and that he doesn’t want it, that why she wants him to keep it to himself. In this world she was a morally very good leader up until this episode. Only 100% pure person is Jon and he literally did not want it at all and was tired of having to be leader.

      I've never seen people measure a character by such double standards as Daenerys.
      Arya kills an entire family and bakes men into a pie.
      Not all Freys were responsible for the Red Wedding.
      No one is saying she will take a dark path, though that would even be justified to say so.
      Sansa fed her rapist husband to his dogs and smiled while he died.
      Justifiably, no one says anything about that.
      But equally, Dany is criticized for looking cold while her abusive brother, who only seconds before threatened to cut her child from her womb, is crowned with molten gold.
      Tywin has wiped out two entire houses without blinking an eye.
      Children, servants and innocent people were killed.
      He ordered the killing of Elia and her children, as well as the organization of the Red Wedding. No one would think of calling Tywin mad.
      Tyrion told the lords of Kings Landing that he wished they would all drink poison and he would like to see them choke on it.
      However, when Dany executes slave masters and rapists, she is the villain.
      Where in the world of ice and fire are people not executed for causing mischief?
      Literally the first thing we see in ASOIAF is Ned executing a deserter who doesn't even deserve to die. By *NED* probably the most morally pure character in the series.

    That is a lot of blame placed on Sansa. I hated Sansa earlier in the series and loved Daenerys, but it shifted as I watched them evolve. My feelings towards Sansa were always complicated and I eventually got tired of Dany's entitlement. Dany didn't come to Westeros because she cared. She came because she felt entitled. She didn't come to save them from Cersei. It never mattered who was on the throne. It only mattered that it wasn't her. She was going to come with Drogo and he was very open about how they'd kill, rape, and enslave. People can either live in Dany's new world or die in their old one.
    "I am Daenerys Stormborn of the blood of old Valyria and I will take what is mine. With Fire and blood, I will take it" She was having a tantrum in Qarth when a guy wouldn't just give her a bunch of ships. The obnoxious Qarth guy and the witch that killed Drogo and her son were both talking a lot of sense, but we loved watching Daenerys rise above her season 1 mistreatment, so we still cheered her on.
    She should never have had a right to the throne. The Mad King was mad and needed removed. She could have stayed and ruled in Mereen, but that wasn't enough for her. She claimed the dragons were her children, but she used them like weapons and constantly did things against their best interest. I wouldn't even do that to my dogs.

    Unpopular opinion but I actually love the scene where she burns the city, looks incredible and honestly makes a fair bit of sense when you think about it.

    • @josephwantock1993
      @josephwantock1993 2 роки тому +1

      Um, not at all. Why did Daeneryes still burn the whole city after they had already surrendered? Not to mention she no doubt killed thousands of innocent children which is something Daeneryes would've never done before the last 3 episodes for no good reason

    • @Duskwalker68
      @Duskwalker68 2 роки тому

      @@josephwantock1993 because she realized that they were surrendering exclusively because they feared Drogon, which was the exact opposite of what she'd believed would happen throughout the entire show; she was expecting to be welcomed with open arms by a loving populace that she's rescuing, not to be utterly rejected by everyone including half of her own forces. Lannister troops were fully prepared if not eager to fight before Drogon's arrival and are pretty much guaranteed to rebel when he's not around, in addition to this the civilians quite literally chose Cersei over her even after she sacrificed a dragon and a ton of her army to save their lives. If you cannot be loved, you must be feared or you will not retain power; it's basic medieval rulership. She literally threatened to burn cities to the ground on multiple occasions when she didn't get her way, do you think she was planning on evacuating every civilian and child in those cities before she did so? If so, you're being very naive. Also what do you mean "no good reason"? The reason for doing it is the thing she's been trying to get throughout the entire show, I'd say that's a pretty good reason.

    • @josephwantock1993

      @@Duskwalker68 But the city surrendered? And not even two minutes after the bells began to ring, she starts laying waste to the streets of Kings Landing. She gave the people zero time to "love her" lol. There is a way to make the Mad Queen storyline work, but how it was presented in the show completely assassinates Dany's character.

    • @Duskwalker68
      @Duskwalker68 2 роки тому

      @@josephwantock1993 yes, they surrendered after Drogon completely destroyed their defences and they had no other option except death which isn't exactly a showing of support. My point is that they will NEVER love her and even if they did she'd squander that love exactly like she did before in Yunkai! She isn't freeing slaves from their hated masters to earn their love this time, she's a foreigner invading their country with dragons, mounted reavers and emotionless eunuchs while burning noblemen alive for refusing to break their oaths; not to mention she's a Targaryen and the daughter of the Mad King so she's been doing exactly what they were told she would. Nobody wants her as a queen and she realized that in that moment, the sudden realization that fear is her only remaining tool is why she burns the city. By doing so she proves everyone right and by extension proves that she is a monarch to be feared, even more so than her father.
      Totally agree that they screwed up the presentation though, there should've been ten seasons with a lot more character development IMO. I think the storyline does make sense but it was definitely poorly done and extremely rushed, D&D clearly just didn't want to do the work to make it amazing and the end product suffered greatly because of it.

    • @josephwantock1993
      @josephwantock1993 2 роки тому +1

      @@Duskwalker68 I can see what you're saying, and it could've worked if the show had written it to be that way. The problem is that Dany was always written to have a pretty level head on her shoulders. Sure, she had some controversial ideas about justice, but nothing she had done prior to the final 3 episodes could be considered as mad. King's Landing had totally surrendered. She needed to earn the people's trust and everything Dany had shown prior to then proved that she knew how to show empathy to those who weren't cruel. I wouldn't call slave masters innocent people and even though she burned the Tarley's, she did give them a chance to switch their allegiance from Cersei, even after they broke their oath to House Tyrell. I guess my point is that the show didn't need to end with Mad Queen Dany if they wanted to end the show after 8 seasons. But if they really wanted the show to end that way, they needed to do another 2-3 seasons for it to make any sense at all.

    I’m excited for breaking bad with you.
    I found your channel when you were just starting season six, so it’s been a fun last few months.
    I hated the ending so much that the next two times I rewatch the series I skipped the last episode. I finally watched it again and now I’ve seen probably five or six people react season 8.
    I wasn’t totally shocked with what happened in episode five, but I would’ve liked a longer build up for her flipping the switch. I didn’t notice it while watching you, great editing by the way, because you showed all of her reactions during the first part of the episode of feeling betrayed by the last couple people in her life.
    It looks like John was the last straw, although I’m not sure if he had reciprocated her love that this still wouldn’t have happened . I still have a feeling that if Sir Jorah had lived she would’ve never done that. If Missandei had lived I think it would be 50-50 still.
    I know there’s a few things that had to end the way George RR Martin led the directors to the conclusion, but I feel that not only was this hastily finished, HBO wanted 13 seasons. After season 6, the 2 crappy directors said nah, we can wrap this up in 13 episodes instead of 7 more seasons. They should have turned the series over to someone else.
    And towards the last two or three seasons they were so tired of fans guessing what was going to happen that they purposefully did things that didn’t make sense just so we could be wrong.

    Back in the day when HBO was releasing a weekly episode I would watch this with my girlfriend, she was a Daenerys stan and, weirdly enough, I was a Sansa stan. I saw all the hints that pointed out to Dany's potential fall to the Dark Side a couple of seasons prior, and my GF would not listen to my theories. Then, when Sansa was presented to us as Daenerys antagonist I was thrilled because I knew then. I was SURE.
    When this episode aired and we watched it, I looked at my girlfriend and said to her, with the most serious face: *Sansa was right.*
    She's still sour abot this XD.

      Your gf was basically watching Dany from Jon Snow eyes - She is not her father. She will be a good queen. So pretty.
      While you were watching it from the eyes of the narrator/story as one should. Sansa learning her lessons from Joffrey, Cersei, LF, Ramsay and eventually meeting someone who is a combination of them all just raises all red flags for her. People won't see it until they remove their rose coloured vision for Daenerys.

It's illogical, insane, shallow, contrived, and extremely half-assed. But I've loved following your reactions from beginning to end, even for episodes I hated, because they always seem genuine.
