trying for a bass on livebait

  • Autumn brings in the whiting and hopefully the Bass are following too.
    In this video I use whiting as live bait for Bass using a treble hook and have success fishing close in to a shingle bank.
    Sea fishing on a shingle bank that leads on to sand we catch some whitting and use them to tempt a bass.
    I use my favoured live bait rig for bass • the simple most effect... .

    Bit of food for thought for live baiting. I fish a normal paternoster style trace, small hook or hooks, with a bead above the swivel. While this is fishing I use a dedicated live bait rod to catch a wriggler. When the bait is caught I hook it onto a relatively short trace with a snap clip at the other end which is clipped onto the main line so it runs freely. The bead above the swivel stops tangles and the live bait trace is too short to tangle with the paternoster. When clipped on the bait can only swim down the line and does not suffer from being cast. Works a treat, just ignore the little fish hooked on the paternoster, they are for attraction, and wait for the rod to double over.

    • @SaltwaterAngler

      Ahh yes good old jiffy lemon ! For mackerel as bait I prefer free lining from the beach , here it’s shallow enough to not need a float.those tropic weighted floats are also good but plus 1 for the jiffy lemon 🍋

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 роки тому

      11 inches for livebait as well. A stinger could be useful where you have a baited small hook for them and a bigger hook so the bass eats the hooked fish

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Рік тому +1

      I’d be tempted to not spin it at all, under a float or free lined and controlled nicely in a good current. You can belly hook them and have the line coming out the head.
