I have schizophrenia and I’ve often thought about how glad I am to be living now. Only a few decades ago I might have been lobotomized, locked up in some institution forever and god knows what. Poor girl.
Right? People still treat mentally ill and especially psychotic people like pariahs at best, I dont think I would have survived my issues even 20 years ago. Hell I still get ignorant muslim brothers and sisters claiming all mental illness is caused by Jinn possession or not praying enough and like nah man, my brain is just whack and I didn't know how to deal with it, its nothing supernatural. Still, I feel extremely privileged in my experience with the system. I've only gone to decent facilities/practitioners or better. the worst thing I saw was a girl get yelled at for having a seizure in her sleep. Shitty and abusive to be sure, but no physical violence or anything absolutely unforgivable like that. My heart breaks every time I think of people in my position who weren't so lucky.
Monty Uchiha I definitely agree. I’m Christian but what I’ve been taught is that there’s a difference between being religious and doing all this extra stuff and then having a relationship with God. Idk if that makes sense but when you have a personal relationship with God you feel more free tbh

There’s a difference between people who are religious and those who have a relationship with God. Even Jesus hated religious people, in the Bible he constantly called them hypocrites because they called themselves holy and good yet they stole, lied, and killed.

My sister is going for a masters in psychology and I remember when she looked at this case she said that it was a combination of severe schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, and possibly some other mental illnesses which I have forgot. But I remember what she said made the matter worse was that her parents were abusive and on top of that they were pretty high up in the church and that if you had kids with mental illness it really put a dent on your reputation so what they did is they just fell back on the idea she was possessed and then listened to anyone who agreed with them while attempting to avoid any comments that she was mentally ill. This is one of the most disturbing cases of child abuse in all of history.

Nobody knows how she died...and i dont think there parents would ever lie about there daughter death....and they have experienced it.... (If she didnt eat anything then how does she have the energy to lift her sister or kicking out people during exorcism?)

I know a man who is about my size (and I’m 100lbs) and when he got off of his medication he would be able to go for weeks with hardly any sleep and anything to eat and would still be able to win multiple fights and throw his furniture around his apartment. It’s quite terrifying, but there’s nothing with the devil going on here. The parents used this as an excuse for their negligence. She was found with bruising all over her body, teeth knocked out, & unnecessary drugs in her system too. If I was that bad of a parent I would lie about it too.
I believe demons didn't let her eat if the parents had given her i.v even to hold her down with straps to get the nutrients she needed but didn't happen that why

My mom has seizures and severe psychologic issues. She's been in and out of wards my whole life and believes the scenarios she creates in her head. She had me and my sisters convinced she was dying of cancer at a early age and went as far as shaving her head and I remember walking in on her in the bathroom as she was cutting herself over the sink with shards of glass from the mirror she had broke. I can honestly see how someone would think it's possession. Eventually she got on the right meds and treatment after years and years. She's still a mother of 3 and has a bunch of grandbabies but seeing how she is now is mind blowing when you have those memories of who she used to be
And the doctors took one look at her and gave her worthless medicine that caused other side effects and made everything even worse as well. Poor girl 😥 very sad.
Actually if you read what she said during the exorcisms, a lot of it was about the inner-politics within the Catholic Church which turned out to be right- keep in mind this was a teenage girl out in nowhere basically, but had the knowledge of many things she shouldn't have, which is one of the signs of possession that's required for an exorcism.

Not saying that the Church haven't made mistakes but the first thing they try to do is to rule out mental issues, and this seems to be a legitimate case because of so many things said during the exorcism that were true things she could have never known as a girl living out of nowhere.
Looked up the medication; it can cause problems with skin and be deadly. Yes, side affects include conditions Emily Rose died with, including fragile teeth, red gums and bone and skin problems. The sounds she made could have been pure hell of skin and membrane problems from medicine alone. Ass in all the people holding her down for sometimes 4 hours. The half life of the medication would make it difficult for a loved one to associate problems with medicine. Doctors should have seen & priests doing exorcisms should look at medications; know side effects and half life of all medications or avoid doing exorcisms. I believe demons can take over a body; but this poor girl was being given pure hell from her medication. I can’t believe a medication that can kill is STILL on the market.
@@Karma4All- I think you are talking about Lamotrigine (I was on it for atypical treatment-rasistant depression) and she was on Carbamazepine. Those are two different meds. But answering your question: it's still on the market bc: 1) There are not many better options when it comes to medications on the market. Also, one medication is good for one person, but not really working for another one. 2) Not all of these side effects are actually visible for all of the patients. When I was starting to take Lamotrigine I was informed about the health-threatening and possibly life-threatening side effects that I should be looking out for- and if a doctor *AND* the patient are both well informed then it should not be a problem for the anyone.
Yeah, that would make some sense. Dunno how hard medication for epilepsy was back then but it makes sense to imagine that might have contributed to her decaying state.
I took tegretol for seizures (I have what is known as a seizure disorder, not epilepsy, there is a difference but I had many seizures as a child) in the 1990s. I had my first seizure in 1979, and at first took phenobarbitol, and then dilantin. I was two in 1979, Mom told me later that the phenobarbitol made me act so terrible that she had the doctor switch it. The dilantin was fine and I had no reaction to it. The tegretol that I took in the 1990s made me lose muscle control. Now here is a fun fact for you: When I would have a seizure I wouldn't to MY knowledge regain consiousness for about a week. HOWEVER, I was always told I woke up for a short while earlier than I remember and I was mean to anyone and everyone and insulted everyone. I never remembered even being awake.
the arthritis meds & sleeping pills that were prescribed to my elderly mom, made her hallucinate that she was possess by demons. She almost burned her house down, trying to exorcise the evil spirits. 3 years ago, her new dr got her off all them drugs. Now she's so much better
I don't remember the name of medication I took but it was these big blue pills. Medication was so potent that I would forget things, even my name. As time went on, I would begin to see things. Nothing scary like in the movies, though. Its like.. for example, I see my headphone over there at the table. I turn around for a bit, the headphone's gone. It did freak me out, though. I got switched to a less potent medication, though. A small yellow pill this time which helped out a ton and kept my epilepsy in check. Eventually, I was prescribed to ease off the medication until I was free of it.
It just sounds like she had schizophrenia and epilepsy combined with an obsession with Catholicism, combined with continual abuse and trauma, no wonder people thought she was possessed. The parents and her doctors were also obviously clueless.
Delusion can be heavily reinforced by things like religious and political beliefs. It's sad, if this girl was born today she would be able to live relatively normally through medication and psychiatric care. Or at least not die starving, bruised, and strapped to a bed.
@@dragonsember That's what they used to do in those days too, strap people down. I worked in an old catholic monastery that used to be a psychiatric ward, and it still had the restraints on the walls. Frightening.
@@Keluah I've worked with children with schizophrenia. This is a classic case of schizophrenia being misdiagnosed as possession. Some people with schizophrenia hear voices, see things and some even think they are being attacked by demons, it's so sad (obviously on a case by case basis and not true for everyone). Supernatural or not the child was treated horribly and it was just wrong.
I've always felt like this story was a combo of severe mental health problems and religious overfixation, and that those two things trigged each other and exasperated her situation.
With bipolar you can get delusions of grandeur and eg. think ur god etc "Persons with severe and persistent mental illness often present for treatment with religious delusions. I'm agnostic and my whole family is not religious as well and I would certainly like to believe the demonic possesion isnt real but there are evidences.. my own first cousin got possessed when she moved to her husband's home. A man had killed himself few days before who lived around the same area. She had no prior knowledge about the man. While possessed she kept asking for the man's bike when she cant drive and just saying things she had no way of knowing. The other time my parents were called for help in the middle of the night when another distant family (a young girl) got possessed. She had multiple dead people inside her which some people recognized. I mean you cant tell me it's all made up. Mental illness and possesion are two very real and different thing.

When I worked at the Gerichtsmedizinisch Instituet der Univearsitaet Wuerzburg, (Forensic Laboratory of the University of Wurzburg) Analisa's corpse was brought into the morgue. Her knees were devoid of all flesh, her kneecaps being clearly visible as there was also no skin left. We were told by her parents that Analisa spent most of the day kneeling on the wooden floor , scraping the skin off her knees while imprisoned in her bedroom. Everyone at the lab felt her parents neglected her and most probably planted the seed of her mental illness early in Analisa's life. I thought it was criminal of the church to allow the parents to remove Analisa from the hospital as did all my colleagues.

MOST of the time doctors are just randomly testing medicines to see what works for patients and they never know if it truly works for them or its just doing an okay job lol its all perspective. ALSO, schizophrenic/epileptics have it much worse they get cycled through so many drugs that are SHIT and when the human ones don't work they try stuff they would prescribe animals. Do you understand that this girls schizophrenia got severely worse after they were messing with the chemicals in her brain and then cold turkey stopping some of these drugs? AT 14 i had doctors prescribing me lithium salts, depakote, yada yada yada for fucking migraines! lol if you dont have mental illness or a PHd in some sort of practice around dont talk about it.

This story is so sad. From all of my research into her life and case, I always thought she suffered from mental illness. Now, knowing someone in my family has schizophrenia and learning about what they've been through, I'm more convinced. This family member had seizures when she was younger and at 17 was diagnosed as schizoaffective. The theory that some doctors have is that the seizures led to her becoming schizoaffective in her later teen years. I've learned that some people with schizophrenia have hallucinations and/or delusions about seeing demons or having them inside them. It's so horrible because, even though my family member is on medication for the illness, she still has horrible delusions and hallucinations and hears multiple voices (not as bad with medication, but it still can be scary for her). She's in therapy thankfully, which helps her to better understand her illness and how to deal with it. But, I see her every day (since I live with her) and it pains me that she has to go through this. I just can't imagine someone, especially family members, not nourishing Annelise even if it's with a feeding tube or IV. I feel the priests, in this case, should have had longer sentences because there was no excuse why she couldn't have gotten more medical help and nourishment through this time. :(

There is no medical condition that can explain her sisters hearing the knocks too, or superhuman strength. I'd also like to hear from her sisters to see if that part of the story is true. Others experiencing the phenomenon too is what gets my attention. I decided to move out of my house once I realized my children also saw the same things as I was seeing.

Emily Rose was my grandmother's maiden name, no kidding! When I saw the movie title 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' several years ago, it kind if freaked me out.

Not surprising. When I was 3 I started having seizures every day. Like every 10 minutes or so. Drs tried putting me on Tegratol, the same seizure med mentioned in the video, that med made me meaner than all hell, and violent, and had me cursing up a storm, even though I was raised in a family that never swore and I hadn't been exposed to most of that kind of language. The doctors tried a handful of different meds on me and they all made thibgs wlrse one way or another. Phenobarbitol ended up putting me into staticus elipticus. Basically a non stop seizure. I had to be hospitilized for 2 and 1/2 months until the right med, and dose, was finally found, which ended up being Depikot. So finding the right medication iant always easy, even today. And with certain forms of epilepsy the wrong medication can cause some horrible and violent outbreaks and create an incredibly mean and aggressive individual, when normally they are very sweet and loving.
Not to mention the fact that often times, epileptic can be thrown into epileptic fits, or end up seizing simply because of too much stress. I'm sure she was under a LOT of stress at the time that her symptoms worsened.
In some cases with meds, it gets worse before it gets better. And if you get prescribed the wrong ones or suddenly stop taking them without tapering off, you'll get worse.
It should also be known that high levels of anxiety can cause delusions , feeling of paranoia, etc. I remember one time as a kid I passed out for no reason, my mom thinks it was a weird reaction to a cough medicine. My mom use to pass out at doctors offices from anxiety. Heavy depression can also sometimes cause one to hear sounds or racing thoughts. Normal people can have periods of dissociation. She could have had a reaction to the medication. Sounds like some sort of deep psychosis. People who are heavily under the influence of drugs (like the cocktail she took) or even psychotic, their eyes can get so dilated that they look black.
ehhhh i don't know about that. I am not overly fanatic about exorcisms, religion or spirits in the sense you are talking about. But i absolutely believe in God, angels and demons. Ask yourself after all those months of taking epileptic medication and her condition only getting worse and the bizarre behavior she was experiencing... what else could it be? Possession is real, her family and priests saw things 1st hand day in and day out the "normal" days bad & ugly days. There really is know way you can sit there hearing the audio tapes, seeing her frail withdrawn morbid like body and conclude its all a mental illness with no spiritual influence. Rudy O'Neil You believe in whatever you want man, I will not try to chance your mind, but it was 67 (I guess, I watched the video a while ago), medication was not effective, and people will believe in whatever they was biased with, off corse a priest and a very catholic family will assume this is caused by the devil. If the same happened in a family of ufologists they would assume it was aliens meeting up with her, the thing is that just because you don't have an explanation for a thing at the moment it does not confirms your previous beliefs. All of this could be explained by epilepsy and metal illness, but if a person already believes in Satan they will assume it is possession.
It's observed that a family who is very religious always have children who are guilty driven emotionally if they give in to sexual desires. They start to hate themselves and consider themselves as a sinner and they end up like Annalise. Wish they could just live as normal humans.

In high school, 16, I struggled with anxiety and started having panic atacks. Due to some religious influences from my family, I started thinking those things were somewhat spiritual. I dove deep into Pentecostalism to get rid of my 'demons' to the point I became a fanatic. If I had any psychological attention maybe I could've avoided all of those stressing religious experiences.
Religion is the worse invention of humanity. Please watch Sam Harris podcast, he is a neuroscientist so he has very helpful content on how to let go of religion and gain sanity. There is no scientific proof of god.

well clearly she had some sort of mental illness. this "someone is sitting on my chest" happens to many people who experience sleep paralysis. all her other symptoms of visual/ auditory hallucinations are signs of other disorders like schizophrenia. add schizophrenia to an overly religious mind and u get the demonic possession story. well, I wish she had been born in todays time ...someone would have taken better care of her. and what the hell is wrong with her parents? even if they want to exorcise her...couldn't they have fed her in the intervals?

I have major depressive disorder with psychotic features (Hallucinations) but have never believe I was possessed. But yeah like you said, the overly religious would automatically sum up demonic possession. I do believe demons exist though. And they CAN hurt you but most of the time they don't even bother. They've got other things to do.
There's a common belief around possession that the suffering inflicted on the person is also felt by the demon. The idea is that if you starve and abuse the person, you're doing the same to the demon as well which would incentivize it to leave.
Yeah what an idiot. I mean I have seen people with epilepsy and there is no "specific" look to them. One of my friends had starting having seizures later in her mid 20's and she went from a full beautiful woman in to someone that looked frail and weak and sort of out of it. Her mother swore she had epilepsy but at autopsy they found a huge malignant tumor deep in her brain buried behind the temporal lobe.

Just because you don’t believe in possessions, doesn’t mean there aren’t possessions. I’ve been on the fence about this one for a while... and I guess none of us will ever truly know. But for me, I could believe either way almost. Keeping her on drugs that had such severe side effects, that’s a big deal. I’m just saying.
@The Realist Sociologist An autopsy was performed and they found no signs of schizophrenia or epilepsy in her brain so idk what ur talking about, I believe she was took to an hospital many times but nothing was working, and as I said they didnt find any mental issues in her brain while performing the autopsy. I feel like it wasn't just the wrong drugs that made her symptoms worse but the fact that she was locked in her room with likely little human interaction. Isolation would drive even the best to insanity but I'm no expert on this topic
I don't think the drugs made it worse necessarily, they just didn't stunt the progression because they weren't used for the right diagnosis, I assume 🤔 She needed anti-psychotic

And there are "educators" (read "nuns") who are in contact with our kids more hours each day than are the parents. Some of them had weird ideas of educating and of their own religion as well.
I think everyone should pass a test to take their baby home. Basic needs, carseat safety, what do for certain things etc. Would probably save so many lives

I was raised in a Catholic home by my mother - going to church and praying every night. Thing is she wasn't a nut about it, just normal once a week stuff, praying at night. Nothing crazy. But little me used to be so scared of going to hell and of the devil and what not, so much that I would beg my mom to pray with me so I could sleep. Eventually I grew out of it, became less religious but I still think back about how scary it was to me back then. Every day was a constant worry about being damned or being scared God would hate me Her mental illness definitely used her religion to drag her deeper in. Poor girl

I don't think religion is to blame but some people who use it in extreme ways. A religion is always based on love one another and do good. And that's awesome cause some ppl found their way to help others by religion. I grew in a Catholic household. But unlike others, my parents always told me that religion is all love based and that there was no need to fear it. I never had a problem with religion. I respect others and believe was raised good. I relate to that i was also raised in a catholic family and i used to be soo terrified of satan and hell. I was told that end of the world is coming and jesus will return to earth to take the believers with him and the rest will be damned. That shit fucking traumatised me as a kid every time at night when there was a storm outside or some loud shit i couldnt fall asleep cuz i would think that its the end of the world coming. Now im grown and im not religious at all.

As a person who was an epileptic and had to go through brain surgery to be rid of my seizures, I do have to say the blackouts sound like some sort of partial seizure. Especially if she lost control of her bladder. So the epilepsy drugs at first might've been a good idea and she just had to increase the dose to work. I don't know. This whole thing is just so sad all she went through.

@@simonacland9028 It depends on what part or parts of the brain are effected when a seizure is taking place. The seizures I had, I was partially aware of my surroundings. If you find yourself with a head ache, confused and tired all of the sudden, then it's possible you had a seizure. If you're really that worried, I would suggest you talk to a neurologist who can refer you to an epilepsy specialist. I haven't had a seizure in 9 years now. I don't miss them.

Blatty's book and articles about the making of The Exorcist were all the students at Anneliese's university could talk about. So she became obsessed with the idea that her health problems and seizures were caused by posession. Posession and demons were already suggested to her during the previous years by an elderly woman who used to chaperone Anneliese. This put the blame for her illness on the demons and not on herself, so she would not be rediculed anymore. In order to convince everybody, she started behaving irradically. She got so absorbed, that she could not stop anymore. This finally led to her death. Do not misunderstand me: the parents and priests are responsible for her death. They should have put her into mental care, but in stead they encouraged her in her behaviour as she was the center of their attention.
Speaking from experience, the wrong combination of antipsychotic and anti-seizure drugs can have unpredictable effects on a person. And then to remove a person from those drugs without careful medical supervision can just make things worse. As I watched this video, I immediately thought of my own experience caring for my mother after removing her from a rehabilitation center in Indiana. She exhibited a lot of these same symptoms. My mom was in rehabilitation following surgery. She had minor dementia, but did not have a history of diagnosed mental illness. She was, however, suffering delirium from a long hospital stay and had some behaviors that led the rehabilitation center to seek “chemical constraints,” with heavy dosages of antipsychotic and anti-seizure medications. With these drugs, she was transformed into a complete zombie. When I visited her and realized what had happened I immediately removed her from the facility and brought her to my home. Over the course of months, I worked with her GP to wean her off of the drugs. Removing medications restored her awareness, but also triggered some new and unusual behaviors. She was seeing demons, speaking in strange voices, screaming, banging on walls, breaking things, and exhibiting unusual strength. It was so unsettling and scary. I was working with her doctors, but ultimately I had to hospitalize her to fully stabilize her. Four months after taking her home, I finally had my mom back. These mind-altering drugs are not to be trifled with. I suspect that, along with mental illness, they played a role in what happened here.
I agree, in my own experience with my Bipolar Disorder, in my manic episodes I was delusional thinking I was God and I became hyper religious with buddhism and I was hearing voices and psychotic. And all of those symptoms appeared when I was under the wrong medication. It took my doctor 3 years to diagnose me and treat me properly and after 7 different combinations I'm finally stable. So yes, medications and side effects are quite horrible.
After I was diagnosed epileptic the doctors gave heavy doses of medication, then I had a seizure that was so bad they had to put me into a coma, And after that they gave more high dose pills. I wasn't the same, I became violent, I was always on edge and felt so much hate. . I took to heavy drinking because it was the only thing that made me feel normal, it made me feel happy and not so slow and fogged up. I take less medication now, but I strive for the day I take my last pill.

It took quite a While to find a med that wouldn't make me scream every nasty word under the sun when someone looked at me, or make me lash out almost involuntarily the rip someone's face off because incoukdnr stand the way they smiled, and I was 3-4 at the time. The hatred and anger were so intense that I still remember as couple of instances very clearly to this day. Plus, if I got one a different kind of wrong seizure med, I'd end up in staticus elipticus and damn near end up dead. I stopped having seizures for years but they came back when I was 21. Seizure meds still mess with me something awful, as do any kind of mood stabilizer, I found out. They seemed to make me beyond lethargic, but unable to sleep more than an hour every 3 or 4 days, and a non stop panic attack. Like my soul was being torn from my insides and dragged on a grater. Then another med made me pretty damn mean and just angry at everyone and everything. I hated it. My best bet was to stick with Valium and Depikot. Phenobarbitol, Tegratol, and Keppra I will never touch again. Id rather suffer the Seizures 10 tines a day than suffer those meds again. Has your doctor tried you out on any other anti-seizure medications? It seems a bit unnecessary to keep you suffering like that when there are so many different medication options these days. I mean, Yeah sometimes no med is going to work great and you just have to settle with the least unpleasant one, unfortunately. But, if your Dr hasn't tried at least a few other meds out on you, maybe you should ask them to. It may be worth it if you're that miserable. And I can definitely sympathkze with just how miserable those meds can make you. I hope you all the best.
Erma Gerhd ~ Yeah that was stupid....no epileptic "looks" like one. I am an epileptic but have not had a seizure since 2013 and no one would be able to tell if I am epileptic or not, unless they SEE me in seizure.

As someone that struggles with epilepsy, I can say that the medication probably did a number. When I was diagnosed with epilepsy, i was put on a very high doses of medication do to my seizures severity. I became violent, detached, anxious and most of all horribly depressed. I can see someone loosing their mind having terrible mind altering medication, plus being tortured one regular. No demons there, just terrible people that didn't try to help her mental condition out side of religion.

When my elder brother was 7/8 years old, he threw stones on a tree one day at the evening. Later that night he started having hallucinations and bad dreams. This went on for several months, and clinical treatment made no effect, exorcisms weren’t too helpful either, but it helped him to stay calm. Once he almost carried two full grown man outside of his room and pointed at the stairs, saying look, a bearded man with twisted stick is coming, please help me. After few daysduring an exorcism, the spirit or whatever, said he would leave but this is not fairwell. The boy shouldn’t have hurt him in the eye with stones. My brother is 42 now, til this day he can't sleep alone, if he does, he has bad dreams.

When I started taking tegretol. It says in bright red lettering, all CAPS, first adverse reaction is, SOMETIMES FATAL. it also can cause weight loss. At no point though did I ever feel possessed. I ended up going off the medication because it messed up mt blood levels. My red blood cells dropped. And my white bloods cells became very abundant. I was diagnosed with leukopena cause by medicine. I quit taking it and my blood levels have returned to normal. 40 years later I'm still going strong.

Some say that the possession wasn't real but idk man, those voices she made were a bit "too much" for her diagnosis. I've been admitted into a psychiatric unit 4 times in my life, ive seen schizophrenia and psychosis episodes but not to the point where they made voices like that. I think it's one of the few exorcism stories that could be quite believable.
Poor girl. She was already suffering from mental illness and the religious pressure, abuse/neglect and confinements definitely made it worse. May her soul rest in peace

I went to watch the film 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' when it came out at the pictures and there were two Catholic priests in the audience. They were dressed in their priest clothes and were sharing a XL bucket of popcorn and drinking coke! Seriously! I couldn't stop looking at them but they didn't speak to anyone or even really make eye contact, they didn't look very happy to be there at all, and I found the whole thing really bizarre! I am Catholic but I don't believe that poor Annaliese was possessed by demons. I think she was epileptic and also suffering from some kind of neurosis or delusions brought on by her parents overly strict and zealous religious beliefs. I think she was totally let down by the church and her family,who I'm sure believed what they were doing was for the best, but still... Can you imagine the agony of fractured teeth and broken knees,as well as slowly starving to death? Just horrific.

The girl was severely mentally ill and it was probably Psychosis she had. But with the way it sounds, she was kind of abused growing up plus an extreme religious upbringing.
The medications they used for epilepsy literally make you go crazy. I feel bad for her. Also discontinuing this medications abruptly cause hallucinations, shaking, nausea to the point of anorexia and even death. What a tragic story 😢

And there's something to it, because my spouse vacuumed the salt up when I wasnt home when day, during Spring Cleaning. And forgot to tell me to replace it. Sure enough I had a horrible episode of sleep paralysis that night. I found out that the salt was gone at about 5 a.m. when I woke up freaking out! I made mention that it was the first time that it had happened since I blessed and placed. the salt.. Only to be informed that it had been removed the previous day. That won't happen again. Sleep paralysis freaking sucks!!!!! For a while I felt like I was living out Nightmare On Elm Street. I'd stay awake for days on end. I'd sleep with the lights on, despite being a grown man. I dont wish it on anyone. Well, maybe a couple of people..

The first time that it happened to me, I tried with all my strength to throw myself off the bed. I was so horrified that I didnt care if I fell off my bed, and face planted on the the hard wood floor! All I managed to do was to rise off my mattress a few inches, and turn from my back to my side. That should have broken the sleep paralysis. It didn't. I could also hear my roommate walk in to the bathroom, which was next to my room. I tried to scream at the top of my lungs, the entire time that she was in there.. All that came out was a low, rattled groaning sound.. I felt like I could feel "something" approaching me from the direction that my closet was at. Something horrible. I began to pray in my mind, and called out a divine name. Each time that I did, it felt like whatever was coming, was pushed back. I called out seven times. Each time it was pushed back, and on the seventh time, the feeling vanished, and I was able to leap out of bed. I promptly ran for my door, grabbing my pajama pants off the foot of my bed as I did so. I really didnt care of my roommate saw me buck naked at the time! So that's sleep paralysis. Some people that experience it see entities. Never beautiful sweet ones mind you! And some even claim that those entities climb on top of them, and either sit on their chest, makingnit hard to breathe, or that they choke them. I haven't had that happen. And I hope that I never do! It may or may not be hallucination. But even if it is, it doesn't matter, it's as real as real can be when it's happening! I have no doubt that some people's lives have been ended during such attacks. It's weird, horrible stuff man!!!
Sounds like she had Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and maybe Schizophrenia. TLE can make you hallucinate and if her meds were suddenly stopped she would've suffered terribly with uncontrollable seizures. Poor girl 😭
I have major depressive disorder with hallucinations. The visual ones I know can't be real, but the auditory hallucinations are much harder to distinguish. Almost impossible to. But the thing of it is, there is a lot that goes on beyond our perception that we don't know about... For instance, background radiation.

It sounds like she had “sleep paralysis” at home and possibly an “absence seizure” in school that first time. I’ve seen those types of seizures. It’s like the person is awake, eyes open, like the saying “all of the lights are on but nobody’s home”. For like 30 minutes. No blinking, no movement, no reflexes, no swallowing or tracking moving objects. Creepy at times.

You can determine if the brain function normally once a patient dies, it can only be detected by MRI brain scan while the person is still alive. They misdiagnosed her it could’ve been completely different mental issue and they put her on wrong medication which made her mental problem worse. Plus religious, physical and psychological abuse was going on at home. They killed her, parents should’ve served time. An autopsy showed that they tortured her , they broke her knees, she had fractured bones and missing teeth that how much they assaulted her. They should’ve gotten life in prison.

My sister told me that during one of my seizures my pupils fully dilated and I had bitten my tongue, so when I came out of it I spit blood everywhere. Can you imagine what they would have thought in the 1600's, I'd be burned at the stake.

Anneliese was in such a toxic environment with these highly-over-the-top religious parents and friends of the family. Since I am German, I could understand these terrible and highly suggestive questions the pater asked her during the "exorcisms", and I could read the protocols (as far as open to public). This poor girl was so abused, I think the parents and all people who took part in this should have faced long times in jail.

My father had epilepsy due to a stroke, and we needed over a year to find the right dosage and the right meds (now he's seizure-free). I even think she wouldn't have developed psychosis (some time later, after the seizures due to epilepsy) at all, if she would have been far away, at school, somewhere else.
Well we do know that the cause is not imaginary friends but a combination of psychosis and epilepsy and also the mistreatment she had from her parents and priest.
Anneliese had epileptic seizures that caused her to have hallucinations this happens when to much electrical activity goes on in the optical lobe of the brain where they eyesight is. Back in the 1970's nobody spoke much about epilepsy and I know because I've had it for 35 yrs. but this was wicked what her parents did to her not giving her the tegretol and just letting her have a exorcism. Epilepsy is in the Bible in the book of Mark it's one of the oldest medical problems that's been around.

I have schizophrenia and I’ve often thought about how glad I am to be living now. Only a few decades ago I might have been lobotomized, locked up in some institution forever and god knows what. Poor girl.
Right? People still treat mentally ill and especially psychotic people like pariahs at best, I dont think I would have survived my issues even 20 years ago. Hell I still get ignorant muslim brothers and sisters claiming all mental illness is caused by Jinn possession or not praying enough and like nah man, my brain is just whack and I didn't know how to deal with it, its nothing supernatural.
Still, I feel extremely privileged in my experience with the system. I've only gone to decent facilities/practitioners or better. the worst thing I saw was a girl get yelled at for having a seizure in her sleep. Shitty and abusive to be sure, but no physical violence or anything absolutely unforgivable like that. My heart breaks every time I think of people in my position who weren't so lucky.

My sister is going for a masters in psychology and I remember when she looked at this case she said that it was a combination of severe schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, and possibly some other mental illnesses which I have forgot. But I remember what she said made the matter worse was that her parents were abusive and on top of that they were pretty high up in the church and that if you had kids with mental illness it really put a dent on your reputation so what they did is they just fell back on the idea she was possessed and then listened to anyone who agreed with them while attempting to avoid any comments that she was mentally ill. This is one of the most disturbing cases of child abuse in all of history.

I know a man who is about my size (and I’m 100lbs) and when he got off of his medication he would be able to go for weeks with hardly any sleep and anything to eat and would still be able to win multiple fights and throw his furniture around his apartment. It’s quite terrifying, but there’s nothing with the devil going on here. The parents used this as an excuse for their negligence. She was found with bruising all over her body, teeth knocked out, & unnecessary drugs in her system too. If I was that bad of a parent I would lie about it too.

My mom has seizures and severe psychologic issues. She's been in and out of wards my whole life and believes the scenarios she creates in her head. She had me and my sisters convinced she was dying of cancer at a early age and went as far as shaving her head and I remember walking in on her in the bathroom as she was cutting herself over the sink with shards of glass from the mirror she had broke.
I can honestly see how someone would think it's possession. Eventually she got on the right meds and treatment after years and years. She's still a mother of 3 and has a bunch of grandbabies but seeing how she is now is mind blowing when you have those memories of who she used to be
So a priest took one look at her and told her family that she didnt have a medical problem? That's some advance doctoring right there.
And the doctors took one look at her and gave her worthless medicine that caused other side effects and made everything even worse as well. Poor girl 😥 very sad.
Actually if you read what she said during the exorcisms, a lot of it was about the inner-politics within the Catholic Church which turned out to be right- keep in mind this was a teenage girl out in nowhere basically, but had the knowledge of many things she shouldn't have, which is one of the signs of possession that's required for an exorcism.

I was prescribed Tegratol in the 80's. The side affects can be enough to make anyone appear possessed.
Looked up the medication; it can cause problems with skin and be deadly. Yes, side affects include conditions Emily Rose died with, including fragile teeth, red gums and bone and skin problems. The sounds she made could have been pure hell of skin and membrane problems from medicine alone. Ass in all the people holding her down for sometimes 4 hours. The half life of the medication would make it difficult for a loved one to associate problems with medicine. Doctors should have seen & priests doing exorcisms should look at medications; know side effects and half life of all medications or avoid doing exorcisms. I believe demons can take over a body; but this poor girl was being given pure hell from her medication.

@@Karma4All- I think you are talking about Lamotrigine (I was on it for atypical treatment-rasistant depression) and she was on Carbamazepine. Those are two different meds.
But answering your question: it's still on the market bc:
1) There are not many better options when it comes to medications on the market. Also, one medication is good for one person, but not really working for another one.
2) Not all of these side effects are actually visible for all of the patients. When I was starting to take Lamotrigine I was informed about the health-threatening and possibly life-threatening side effects that I should be looking out for- and if a doctor *AND* the patient are both well informed then it should not be a problem for the anyone.
I really dont see anyone talking about the drugs she was on, I'm sure they had some nasty side effects initially.
Yeah, that would make some sense. Dunno how hard medication for epilepsy was back then but it makes sense to imagine that might have contributed to her decaying state.
I took tegretol for seizures (I have what is known as a seizure disorder, not epilepsy, there is a difference but I had many seizures as a child) in the 1990s. I had my first seizure in 1979, and at first took phenobarbitol, and then dilantin. I was two in 1979, Mom told me later that the phenobarbitol made me act so terrible that she had the doctor switch it. The dilantin was fine and I had no reaction to it. The tegretol that I took in the 1990s made me lose muscle control. Now here is a fun fact for you: When I would have a seizure I wouldn't to MY knowledge regain consiousness for about a week. HOWEVER, I was always told I woke up for a short while earlier than I remember and I was mean to anyone and everyone and insulted everyone. I never remembered even being awake.
the arthritis meds & sleeping pills that were prescribed to my elderly mom, made her hallucinate that she was possess by demons. She almost burned her house down, trying to exorcise the evil spirits. 3 years ago, her new dr got her off all them drugs. Now she's so much better

I don't remember the name of medication I took but it was these big blue pills. Medication was so potent that I would forget things, even my name. As time went on, I would begin to see things. Nothing scary like in the movies, though. Its like.. for example, I see my headphone over there at the table. I turn around for a bit, the headphone's gone. It did freak me out, though.
I got switched to a less potent medication, though. A small yellow pill this time which helped out a ton and kept my epilepsy in check. Eventually, I was prescribed to ease off the medication until I was free of it.
It just sounds like she had schizophrenia and epilepsy combined with an obsession with Catholicism, combined with continual abuse and trauma, no wonder people thought she was possessed. The parents and her doctors were also obviously clueless.

Delusion can be heavily reinforced by things like religious and political beliefs. It's sad, if this girl was born today she would be able to live relatively normally through medication and psychiatric care. Or at least not die starving, bruised, and strapped to a bed.

@@Keluah I've worked with children with schizophrenia. This is a classic case of schizophrenia being misdiagnosed as possession. Some people with schizophrenia hear voices, see things and some even think they are being attacked by demons, it's so sad (obviously on a case by case basis and not true for everyone). Supernatural or not the child was treated horribly and it was just wrong.
I've always felt like this story was a combo of severe mental health problems and religious overfixation, and that those two things trigged each other and exasperated her situation.

I'm agnostic and my whole family is not religious as well and I would certainly like to believe the demonic possesion isnt real but there are evidences.. my own first cousin got possessed when she moved to her husband's home. A man had killed himself few days before who lived around the same area. She had no prior knowledge about the man. While possessed she kept asking for the man's bike when she cant drive and just saying things she had no way of knowing. The other time my parents were called for help in the middle of the night when another distant family (a young girl) got possessed. She had multiple dead people inside her which some people recognized. I mean you cant tell me it's all made up. Mental illness and possesion are two very real and different thing.

When I worked at the Gerichtsmedizinisch Instituet der Univearsitaet Wuerzburg, (Forensic Laboratory of the University of Wurzburg) Analisa's corpse was brought into the morgue. Her knees were devoid of all flesh, her kneecaps being clearly visible as there was also no skin left. We were told by her parents that Analisa spent most of the day kneeling on the wooden floor , scraping the skin off her knees while imprisoned in her bedroom. Everyone at the lab felt her parents neglected her and most probably planted the seed of her mental illness early in Analisa's life.
I thought it was criminal of the church to allow the parents to remove Analisa from the hospital as did all my colleagues.

This story is so sad. From all of my research into her life and case, I always thought she suffered from mental illness. Now, knowing someone in my family has schizophrenia and learning about what they've been through, I'm more convinced. This family member had seizures when she was younger and at 17 was diagnosed as schizoaffective. The theory that some doctors have is that the seizures led to her becoming schizoaffective in her later teen years. I've learned that some people with schizophrenia have hallucinations and/or delusions about seeing demons or having them inside them. It's so horrible because, even though my family member is on medication for the illness, she still has horrible delusions and hallucinations and hears multiple voices (not as bad with medication, but it still can be scary for her). She's in therapy thankfully, which helps her to better understand her illness and how to deal with it. But, I see her every day (since I live with her) and it pains me that she has to go through this. I just can't imagine someone, especially family members, not nourishing Annelise even if it's with a feeding tube or IV. I feel the priests, in this case, should have had longer sentences because there was no excuse why she couldn't have gotten more medical help and nourishment through this time. :(

There is no medical condition that can explain her sisters hearing the knocks too, or superhuman strength. I'd also like to hear from her sisters to see if that part of the story is true. Others experiencing the phenomenon too is what gets my attention. I decided to move out of my house once I realized my children also saw the same things as I was seeing.

That's what I was thinking. No telling what kind of untested narcotics they threw at people for epilepsy back then.
Not surprising. When I was 3 I started having seizures every day. Like every 10 minutes or so. Drs tried putting me on Tegratol, the same seizure med mentioned in the video, that med made me meaner than all hell, and violent, and had me cursing up a storm, even though I was raised in a family that never swore and I hadn't been exposed to most of that kind of language. The doctors tried a handful of different meds on me and they all made thibgs wlrse one way or another. Phenobarbitol ended up putting me into staticus elipticus. Basically a non stop seizure. I had to be hospitilized for 2 and 1/2 months until the right med, and dose, was finally found, which ended up being Depikot.
So finding the right medication iant always easy, even today. And with certain forms of epilepsy the wrong medication can cause some horrible and violent outbreaks and create an incredibly mean and aggressive individual, when normally they are very sweet and loving.
Not to mention the fact that often times, epileptic can be thrown into epileptic fits, or end up seizing simply because of too much stress. I'm sure she was under a LOT of stress at the time that her symptoms worsened.

In some cases with meds, it gets worse before it gets better. And if you get prescribed the wrong ones or suddenly stop taking them without tapering off, you'll get worse.
It should also be known that high levels of anxiety can cause delusions , feeling of paranoia, etc.
I remember one time as a kid I passed out for no reason, my mom thinks it was a weird reaction to a cough medicine. My mom use to pass out at doctors offices from anxiety.
Heavy depression can also sometimes cause one to hear sounds or racing thoughts. Normal people can have periods of dissociation.
She could have had a reaction to the medication. Sounds like some sort of deep psychosis.
People who are heavily under the influence of drugs (like the cocktail she took) or even psychotic, their eyes can get so dilated that they look black.

Ask yourself after all those months of taking epileptic medication and her condition only getting worse and the bizarre behavior she was experiencing... what else could it be? In high school, 16, I struggled with anxiety and started having panic atacks. Due to some religious influences from my family, I started thinking those things were somewhat spiritual. I dove deep into Pentecostalism to get rid of my 'demons' to the point I became a fanatic.

I have major depressive disorder with psychotic features (Hallucinations) but have never believe I was possessed. But yeah like you said, the overly religious would automatically sum up demonic possession. I do believe demons exist though. And they CAN hurt you but most of the time they don't even bother. They've got other things to do.

There's a common belief around possession that the suffering inflicted on the person is also felt by the demon. The idea is that if you starve and abuse the person, you're doing the same to the demon as well which would incentivize it to leave.

Yeah what an idiot. I mean I have seen people with epilepsy and there is no "specific" look to them. One of my friends had starting having seizures later in her mid 20's and she went from a full beautiful woman in to someone that looked frail and weak and sort of out of it. Her mother swore she had epilepsy but at autopsy they found a huge malignant tumor deep in her brain buried behind the temporal lobe.

I was raised in a Catholic home by my mother - going to church and praying every night. Thing is she wasn't a nut about it, just normal once a week stuff, praying at night. Nothing crazy. But little me used to be so scared of going to hell and of the devil and what not, so much that I would beg my mom to pray with me so I could sleep. Eventually I grew out of it, became less religious but I still think back about how scary it was to me back then. Every day was a constant worry about being damned or being scared God would hate me

I relate to that i was also raised in a catholic family and i used to be soo terrified of satan and hell. I was told that end of the world is coming and jesus will return to earth to take the believers with him and the rest will be damned. Anneliese (born in 1952) was a pious girl from a strong Catholic family. She was part of that period in the Church when changes were happening in the holy liturgy. When communion in the hand was introduced, she instinctively felt this was wrong, so she stopped going to her parish and found one which kept to the correct way. It was also a time when many clergy stopped believing in many doctrines, for example referring to demons as medieval theology. It was a time of dissent in many parts of the Western Church. Anneliese Michel had a vision of Our Lady in her early 20s. Our Lady asked her if she was prepared to suffer much for German youth and priests. She agreed. The suffering would be in the form of demonic possession. She was to be a "victim soul". Anneliese was to show Germany and the world that devils really do exist. Throughout her possession, she still prayed, went to mass, said the rosary and received the sacraments.
She would be possessed by up to 10 demons some of whom revealed themselves - Lucifer, Cain, Hitler, Nero and Fr Fleischmann, among them. The 2 priests who carried out the exorcisms were not supported by their bishops - they suffered much. They knew she was possessed, having carried out all the tests that have to be done when deciding on a case - it is pretty meticulous. (Father Fortea talks about the assessment in his interview). The priests recorded the exorcisms which means there is a record of what was said. What the demons say is revealing. I am only going to put some of what they said, and these were published by Father A Faroni. Father Fortea includes them in his e-book.

As a person who was an epileptic and had to go through brain surgery to be rid of my seizures, I do have to say the blackouts sound like some sort of partial seizure. Especially if she lost control of her bladder. So the epilepsy drugs at first might've been a good idea and she just had to increase the dose to work. I don't know. This whole thing is just so sad all she went through.

@@simonacland9028 It depends on what part or parts of the brain are effected when a seizure is taking place. The seizures I had, I was partially aware of my surroundings. If you find yourself with a head ache, confused and tired all of the sudden, then it's possible you had a seizure. If you're really that worried, I would suggest you talk to a neurologist who can refer you to an epilepsy specialist. I haven't had a seizure in 9 years now. I don't miss them.

Blatty's book and articles about the making of The Exorcist were all the students at Anneliese's university could talk about. So she became obsessed with the idea that her health problems and seizures were caused by posession. Posession and demons were already suggested to her during the previous years by an elderly woman who used to chaperone Anneliese. This put the blame for her illness on the demons and not on herself, so she would not be rediculed anymore. In order to convince everybody, she started behaving irradically. She got so absorbed, that she could not stop anymore. This finally led to her death. Do not misunderstand me: the parents and priests are responsible for her death. They should have put her into mental care, but in stead they encouraged her in her behaviour as she was the center of their attention.

Speaking from experience, the wrong combination of antipsychotic and anti-seizure drugs can have unpredictable effects on a person. And then to remove a person from those drugs without careful medical supervision can just make things worse. As I watched this video, I immediately thought of my own experience caring for my mother after removing her from a rehabilitation center in Indiana. She exhibited a lot of these same symptoms.
My mom was in rehabilitation following surgery. She had minor dementia, but did not have a history of diagnosed mental illness. She was, however, suffering delirium from a long hospital stay and had some behaviors that led the rehabilitation center to seek “chemical constraints,” with heavy dosages of antipsychotic and anti-seizure medications. With these drugs, she was transformed into a complete zombie. When I visited her and realized what had happened I immediately removed her from the facility and brought her to my home. Over the course of months, I worked with her GP to wean her off of the drugs. Removing medications restored her awareness, but also triggered some new and unusual behaviors. She was seeing demons, speaking in strange voices, screaming, banging on walls, breaking things, and exhibiting unusual strength. It was so unsettling and scary. I was working with her doctors, but ultimately I had to hospitalize her to fully stabilize her. Four months after taking her home, I finally had my mom back.
These mind-altering drugs are not to be trifled with. I suspect that, along with mental illness, they played a role in what happened here.

I agree, in my own experience with my Bipolar Disorder, in my manic episodes I was delusional thinking I was God and I became hyper religious with buddhism and I was hearing voices and psychotic. And all of those symptoms appeared when I was under the wrong medication. It took my doctor 3 years to diagnose me and treat me properly and after 7 different combinations I'm finally stable. So yes, medications and side effects are quite horrible.
After I was diagnosed epileptic the doctors gave heavy doses of medication, then I had a seizure that was so bad they had to put me into a coma, And after that they gave more high dose pills. I wasn't the same, I became violent, I was always on edge and felt so much hate. . I took to heavy drinking because it was the only thing that made me feel normal, it made me feel happy and not so slow and fogged up. I take less medication now, but I strive for the day I take my last pill.

It took quite a While to find a med that wouldn't make me scream every nasty word under the sun when someone looked at me, or make me lash out almost involuntarily the rip someone's face off because incoukdnr stand the way they smiled, and I was 3-4 at the time. The hatred and anger were so intense that I still remember as couple of instances very clearly to this day. Plus, if I got one a different kind of wrong seizure med, I'd end up in staticus elipticus and damn near end up dead.
I stopped having seizures for years but they came back when I was 21. Seizure meds still mess with me something awful, as do any kind of mood stabilizer, I found out. They seemed to make me beyond lethargic, but unable to sleep more than an hour every 3 or 4 days, and a non stop panic attack. Like my soul was being torn from my insides and dragged on a grater. Then another med made me pretty damn mean and just angry at everyone and everything. I hated it. My best bet was to stick with Valium and Depikot. Phenobarbitol, Tegratol, and Keppra I will never touch again. Id rather suffer the Seizures 10 tines a day than suffer those meds again.
Has your doctor tried you out on any other anti-seizure medications? It seems a bit unnecessary to keep you suffering like that when there are so many different medication options these days. I mean, Yeah sometimes no med is going to work great and you just have to settle with the least unpleasant one, unfortunately. But, if your Dr hasn't tried at least a few other meds out on you, maybe you should ask them to. It may be worth it if you're that miserable. And I can definitely sympathkze with just how miserable those meds can make you.

As someone that struggles with epilepsy, I can say that the medication probably did a number. When I was diagnosed with epilepsy, i was put on a very high doses of medication do to my seizures severity. I became violent, detached, anxious and most of all horribly depressed. I can see someone loosing their mind having terrible mind altering medication, plus being tortured one regular. No demons there, just terrible people that didn't try to help her mental condition out side of religion.

When my elder brother was 7/8 years old, he threw stones on a tree one day at the evening. Later that night he started having hallucinations and bad dreams.
This went on for several months, and clinical treatment made no effect, exorcisms weren’t too helpful either, but it helped him to stay calm.
Once he almost carried two full grown man outside of his room and pointed at the stairs, saying look, a bearded man with twisted stick is coming, please help me.
After few daysduring an exorcism, the spirit or whatever, said he would leave but this is not fairwell. The boy shouldn’t have hurt him in the eye with stones.
My brother is 42 now, til this day he can't sleep alone, if he does, he has bad dreams.

When I started taking tegretol. It says in bright red lettering, all CAPS, first adverse reaction is,
SOMETIMES FATAL. it also can cause weight loss. At no point though did I ever feel possessed. I ended up going off the medication because it messed up mt blood levels. My red blood cells dropped. And my white bloods cells became very abundant. I was diagnosed with leukopena cause by medicine. I quit taking it and my blood levels have returned to normal. 40 years later I'm still going strong.

Some say that the possession wasn't real but idk man, those voices she made were a bit "too much" for her diagnosis. I've been admitted into a psychiatric unit 4 times in my life, ive seen schizophrenia and psychosis episodes but not to the point where they made voices like that. I think it's one of the few exorcism stories that could be quite believable.

I went to watch the film 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' when it came out at the pictures and there were two Catholic priests in the audience. They were dressed in their priest clothes and were sharing a XL bucket of popcorn and drinking coke! Seriously! I couldn't stop looking at them but they didn't speak to anyone or even really make eye contact, they didn't look very happy to be there at all, and I found the whole thing really bizarre! I am Catholic but I don't believe that poor Annaliese was possessed by demons. I think she was epileptic and also suffering from some kind of neurosis or delusions brought on by her parents overly strict and zealous religious beliefs. I think she was totally let down by the church and her family,who I'm sure believed what they were doing was for the best, but still... Not just because of how I was raised, but because I've seen and experienced too much not to. I dont claim to be an expert, nor do I believe completely in any specific belief system. And there's something to it, because my spouse vacuumed the salt up when I wasnt home when day, during Spring Cleaning. And forgot to tell me to replace it. Sure enough I had a horrible episode of sleep paralysis that night. I found out that the salt was gone at about 5 a.m. when I woke up freaking out! I made mention that it was the first time that it had happened since I blessed and placed. the salt.. Only to be informed that it had been removed the previous day. That won't happen again. Sleep paralysis freaking sucks!!!!! For a while I felt like I was living out Nightmare On Elm Street. I'd stay awake for days on end. I'd sleep with the lights on, despite being a grown man. I dont wish it on anyone. Well, maybe a couple of people..

The first time that it happened to me, I tried with all my strength to throw myself off the bed. I was so horrified that I didnt care if I fell off my bed, and face planted on the the hard wood floor! All I managed to do was to rise off my mattress a few inches, and turn from my back to my side. That should have broken the sleep paralysis. It didn't. I could also hear my roommate walk in to the bathroom, which was next to my room. I tried to scream at the top of my lungs, the entire time that she was in there.. All that came out was a low, rattled groaning sound.. I felt like I could feel "something" approaching me from the direction that my closet was at. Something horrible. I began to pray in my mind, and called out a divine name. Each time that I did, it felt like whatever was coming, was pushed back. I called out seven times. Each time it was pushed back, and on the seventh time, the feeling vanished, and I was able to leap out of bed. I promptly ran for my door, grabbing my pajama pants off the foot of my bed as I did so. I really didnt care of my roommate saw me buck naked at the time! So that's sleep paralysis. Some people that experience it see entities. Never beautiful sweet ones mind you! And some even claim that those entities climb on top of them, and either sit on their chest, makingnit hard to breathe, or that they choke them. I haven't had that happen. And I hope that I never do! It may or may not be hallucination. But even if it is, it doesn't matter, it's as real as real can be when it's happening! I have no doubt that some people's lives have been ended during such attacks. It's weird, horrible stuff man!!!
Ugh, I was on some bad meds a few years ago, didn't get out of bed. Just awful to want to get out and do things but be paralyzed in bed.
Sounds like she had Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and maybe Schizophrenia. TLE can make you hallucinate and if her meds were suddenly stopped she would've suffered terribly with uncontrollable seizures. Poor girl 😭
I have major depressive disorder with hallucinations. The visual ones I know can't be real, but the auditory hallucinations are much harder to distinguish. Almost impossible to. But the thing of it is, there is a lot that goes on beyond our perception that we don't know about... For instance, background radiation.

It sounds like she had “sleep paralysis” at home and possibly an “absence seizure” in school that first time. I’ve seen those types of seizures. It’s like the person is awake, eyes open, like the saying “all of the lights are on but nobody’s home”. For like 30 minutes. No blinking, no movement, no reflexes, no swallowing or tracking moving objects. Creepy at times.
She ate insects and lapped up urine though.. that's pretty messed up.

she obviously wasn’t asleep while most of this was happening lol. the whole part of sleep paralysis is that you can’t move… bc you are paralyzed lmao they had to restrain her a ton and she still had a lot of force and energy at like 90lbs lol. i had paranormal issues and there were times my body would often move on it’s own out of my control. i was put on medications for seizures too and no they did not work bc i’m not actually epileptic lmao
You can determine if the brain function normally once a patient dies, it can only be detected by MRI brain scan while the person is still alive. They misdiagnosed her it could’ve been completely different mental issue and they put her on wrong medication which made her mental problem worse. Plus religious, physical and psychological abuse was going on at home. They killed her, parents should’ve served time.
An autopsy showed that they tortured her , they broke her knees, she had fractured bones and missing teeth that how much they assaulted her. They should’ve gotten life in prison.
I think it's just because of the stress from her parents she was told to be more religious than an average . That led her to the point of halusination . She started to see things she completely lost her mind...

Whenever someone asks me "Do you ever wish you were born in a different time period?". Um no I have epilepsy they would either think I was a demon possessed or a witch. I'm good thanks though.
My sister told me that during one of my seizures my pupils fully dilated and I had bitten my tongue, so when I came out of it I spit blood everywhere. Can you imagine what they would have thought in the 1600's, I'd be burned at the stake.

I have temporal lobe epilepsy and I’m often told that I don’t look epileptic since I don’t have convulsions. Which is so stupid 🤦🏼♀️ It took me months to figure out the right combo of meds with my doctors. Some of them made my seizures worse. It could have been similar with Anneliese, if her meds weren’t the right fit for her epilepsy. I feel so bad for her, having to go through so much trauma and neglect. 😞
Anneliese was in such a toxic environment with these highly-over-the-top religious parents and friends of the family.
Since I am German, I could understand these terrible and highly suggestive questions the pater asked her during the "exorcisms", and I could read the protocols (as far as open to public). This poor girl was so abused, I think the parents and all people who took part in this should have faced long times in jail.
Agreed, not only did she have mental issues that were put on her by an unhealthy environment around her, she was essentially gaslighted into believing something entirely different, while her mental and physical state continued to deteriorate

@@ravenone6255 It was probably the wrong medicine or a wrong dosage. My father had epilepsy due to a stroke, and we needed over a year to find the right dosage and the right meds (now he's seizure-free).
I even think she wouldn't have developed psychosis (some time later, after the seizures due to epilepsy) at all, if she would have been far away, at school, somewhere else.
She was misdiagnosed which was the fault of the Doctors
