    Hey Man - Thanks so much for being so kind and decent enough to post such brilliant videos for the BMW M62 TU V8 engine alternator removal process.
    You are a very nice person and your videos have been a great help to me changing the alternator on my 2000 E39 540i which has given me months of transmission fail safe hell !!!! **due to the battery not getting fully charged** by a bad alternator !
    The electronics on these cars are so sensitive to just a slight drop in voltage !!!!!!! :-(
    Now with a cheap second hand alternator installed my E39 drives like a dream again :-)
    Now I can actually take off in 1st gear again when the car is warm and in sport mode instead of being FORCED to start up off the line in 4th or 5th gear ! after 10 minutes of driving which is very embarrassing for a BMW driver lol !
    Your videos are a true credit to UA-cam ! - Good luck in everything that you do :-)
    You are the best ;-)

    yeas you can open this altenator and change parts, fixed 2 of these my self and both of them has been same failure, there is 6 electrical diods. 3+ and 3- and only 1 of them fails dont know why allways the same, but that part cost around 2,5€ and takes some tin melting skils To replace it, altenator has been sealed whit silicone so just clean those old silicones and put New ones (heat proved) silicone becouse on these engines water coolant can raise To 105+ celcius

      You can't??? Lol, it took me about 30 minutes to replace the alternator on my truck...All i needed to was a ratchet and a couple sockets....plus the 170 amp upgrade replacement was under 200 bucks, while im positive this water cooled unit both doesnt put out 170 amps, and costs way more then 200$

      Michael G Right on 2 occasions Mike! It puts out 120 or 140 (depending on the year and options) amps and is twice as hard to replace than on most trucks. Oh and a good one costs $400 bucks!

      Yeah, thats why unless i was insanely wealthy I would never own a BMW,Mercedes or other high end unnecessarily complicated car save for a select few models

      Michael G Surprisingly, its pretty straight forward to work on. However, parts are another story....

      A re manufactured unit is less then $225 ;) and the one in the video is 150amp

    Great video, however you should have tried talking into (or a least towards) the mic/camera.

    Leave it to bmw to create the problem of a "leaking alternator"

    • @BMWorks_NL
      @BMWorks_NL  10 років тому +2

      It doesn't leak, after 12-14 years it's end of life.

      Homerraas
      But its a possibility. Where 99% of other cars have an air cooled alternator, there is no way a worn alternator could EVER leak coolant. But yeah, 12-14 is typical. The one I mentioned replacing in my truck was 11 years old when is started to go. Wasn't completely dead just yet, but the voltage guage would dip at idle when you head the blower or lights on.
