    Thanks for this helpful tutorial, you're a legend.
    I didn't have a suitable tool to remove the viscous fan, so I removed the fan itself via the 3 bolts that mount it to the viscous coupling using an allen key. It didn't provide quite as much clearance, but was adequate. Anyone else; don't remove the four bolts from the belt pulley itself; it detaches the pulley from the viscous coupling and doesn't help!
    I also left the radiator in, mainly out of laziness; I'm happy to jet wash through the grille! I also left one or two other hoses that weren't in the way (Mine seemed to have subtle differences; it's an M62TUB44, UK model) and removed the radiator shroud and expansion tank as one piece.
    All in all a very short and easy job, but well worth watching this first!

      Glad you got it out without removing the radiator! I make the combination to remove and clean it as the coolant is out anyway

    That big wrench you showed is called a "Headset Wrench" and they are indeed used on bicycles and most bicycle shops have them for $10-15. 32mm is also one of the most common sizes for them along with 36mm, so they're great for all kinds of stuff like this where you need a thin wrench for a big hex!

    very helpful although i found i could remove the alternator without taking out the radiator and the hoses, i rotated the alternator and moved it to the left and at the centre of the car it came out easily. strangely most of the coolant seemed to stay in the motor

      @@BMWorks_NL hello I replaced my water cooled alternator and my red light battery comes on and of then it complete stays on and my test cluster 9 says voltage is 11.2 but then outta nowhere the alternator jumps back up do you think it's possible that the remanufactured one I installed is defective

    • @BMWorks_NL
      @BMWorks_NL  5 років тому

      Rocio Leon sounds like your voltage regulator isn’t doing what it should, to be sure check battery connections

      @@BMWorks_NL like the terminals a mechanic said it could be that it was because it's a used one. What is the voltage regulator isn't that inside the alternator? I did check my cables the negative one has some corrosion not around the tip but in the terminal cable entrance it's white.... I just came to do some
