Yep. Provided you keep up with maintenance, it works just as well as new equipment. We did about 1,000 bales this year and I only had to make one small fix on this mower.
so nice to see these tractors out doing their job rather than being painted up and chucked in a shed as a collectible. IH made plenty of them, still plenty out there nice and affordable. We have enough of them preserved already.
God provided the daylight and plants, IH engineers provided much of the rest years ago! God bring our country back to the center of civilization and stop the madness we see on the TV box...
My brother has our father's '48 John Deere A. I always said that the Farmall M would do anything that his tractor would(he always looked like he wanted to hit me). We also had a NH Haybine like that. My brother would cut and I would rake with the Ford 8N then he would bale with the NH 660. As soon as he got a full hay wagon, I would take it away with the Ford. A lot of times we would make nothing but bedding hay with the first cutting and get good hay from the second cutting. Here in Ohio, we used to get the August drought and get all the hay made in two weeks if we were lucky. I am happy to see the old tractors and machinery still being used.
Great comment. Thanks for sharing. I really wish we still had that August drought. That's when you could catch up on all those fields that you put off for the bigger fields. The last three years have a been a struggle with rain from beginning to end.
i lived on a farm called bolinda vale 25 miles from deniliquin new south wales australia brings back great memories it was the first tractor i learnt to drive also drove a farmall h loved the vidoe keep up the good work
What oil do you use in your Belly pump to raise the haybine I have an m. as well and it seems like it is having a hard time lifting the haybine seems like it works fine for the first two rows and then it just keeps getting weaker.
Question though, why would you let the string run loose like that, so it might be able to be caught up in the pto? Not trying to be a wise guy, just curious.
Great question. It needs to run loose like that or it will pull the transport pin out as you go around a corner. I've seen that happen and it was a disaster! You'd think the rope would get caught in the PTO shaft, but it doesn't. It's just rides across the top.
@@smallfarmsurvival4026 im about to retire myself, i dnt blame you 👍i grew up on a dairy farm south of Rockfall,Illinois, by Tampico,Illinois, we had a super C, an M, & a 400 gas,International Farmall's were & are great durable tractors, definate work horses...im a union pipefitter & exray pipe welder now, hope to retire in a couple yrs...Local 23, Rockford,Illinois ...

Very common to have no fenders. They would be taken off to mount a corn picker and never put back on, if they were ever on at all. Farmer could save something like $15 in 1946 by not ordering fenders!
Factory M fenders were just the scallop shell style and it's more uncommon to see an M with fenders than without. They were commonly taken off to mount different implements and then never put back on.
He said in the video - hoping for a better quality next crop. With hay, you cut on a schedule to hit the right maturity for quality. If you cut according to height, you make a lot more hay, but you make a lotta junk.
Could you keep the camera a bit more in balance and not swing it around that much? It makes the viewer nauseous. You could use GoPro stabilisers like UA-camr AQUAHOLIC does. Also look at the filming techniques of UA-cam channel 'Just A Few Acres Farm' as an example.
I was gonna make the same comment. I have a stand tank that came with the farm, but they can be bought for $100 or less at many farm sales. Saves around 30 cents a gallon for not having road tax, but you gotta buy it 150 gallon at a pop. I fill up twice a year to run my 2020, 60, grasshopper mower, chainsaws. $90 a year savings, so the barrel is paid for in a year or so. Best part? No Ethanol added! Funny how FARM gasoline doesn't have ethanol in it... It keeps a lot better than ethanol gasoline
Ole Farmall sounds like it runs good, I had one years ago wish I still had it, thanks for sharing this video 🚜
The old farmalls are hard to beat! Love the two color paint scheme!
I absolutely love old school tools and equipment. There are fewer things more satisfying than a job well done with some old reliables.

Nicely done. Lovely old rig! The best never die.
So many of these old Farmalls still hard at work. As a kid in the early 70's used my grandfathers M a ton on his property in SE MO.
Two years later..... I'd love to see how these fields turned out! Enjoyed the video, thanks!
I have 2 m's and a 100...love those old red tractors
Everyone needs a tractor life is more simple and fun...................God save us while there's still time

Man, seeing that field at the 1:00 mark made my nose hallucinate the smell of fresh cut grass!
God it must’ve been great. Sweet music made by that old M. 👍🏻👍🏻
Good video! I like the cuts and angles. That takes a lot to stitch it together. Nice tractor too!
Thanks! I've been swamped this week with office work, but I hope to have a new video out soon.
Good video thanks
I've never seen an M painted like that.... Interesting colors.....
Love the M. have a 47' model

Great running M !
I had a 477 for awhile, never hooked it to my M, but ran it on my 961 Ford a bunch. Nice video.
Nice tractor brings back memories
Nice Jeep KJ, most underappreciated model.
That’s a nice farmall m I have a 58’ farmall cub that I’m trying to restore, and a 54’ farmall super c that I’m rebuilding the engine.
I just got me a farmall m with a farmhand loader i love it
Awesome video Buddy👍
That old girls runs nice. : )
We use to run a 477 with a super H. Only drawback was we didn't have a hand clutch. Made it rough in thick hay with no live PTO.
Yeah, there are times with first cutting that I'd love a hand clutch. How did the Super H handle the weight of the mower?
Did pretty well considering that we are in some pretty steep hills in south Eastern Ohio
Nice video. Your M needs a new steering wheel. They don't cost much. I bought one for mine.

Hallo smallfarmsurvival,
nice video, but most time the exhaust cap is closed. Is there any "bypass" in the system?
hey whats up farmall nice farm beautiful view

30w non detergent is what’s recommended.
I’ve cut mine 50/50 with 90w in summertime to keep haying with a weak pump.
What is the acreage of your farm?
The farm is about 70 acres and we rent another 20-25 acres of hay ground.
Very nice video hope to see more
Nice running like a swiss watch
Could run a gear higher. Love these old workhorses
How you raise your weather without hydraulics?
Beautiful fields
Good ol M's
Bet deer's all over that field.should grow back better now.

Nice vid
Out of curiosity, what test of gasoline do you use?
Typically the cheapest, 87. I do add STP gas treatment on a regular basis.
What the? No fenders.
I've never seen an M or an H that had fenders. Makes it a little dicey for passengers...
@@smallfarmsurvival4026 wasnt designed for passengers

Im noticing that flapper on the muffler is barely opening ... too tight ?
No, its just not running hard. If it were pulling 8 ft disc or 4 plows, shed be wide open then
M did well
Farmall Fanatic
About that time again 💥Boom💥
It is like 8 inches long. Why exactly are you cutting it?
He said in the video - hoping for a better quality next crop. With hay, you cut on a schedule to hit the right maturity for quality. If you cut according to height, you make a lot more hay, but you make a lotta junk.

Your brother is not a farmer. He still has his pajamas on.
He's retired, but trust me, we give him heck for that. :)
I noticed you put regular gas in your M
I found my M and JD 3020 run much better with at least 89 octane fuel.
I'll give that a shot next summer and see how it works. Thanks!
Why not have a gas tank on the farm? Going to a gas station and paying full price does not make sense
I was gonna make the same comment. I have a stand tank that came with the farm, but they can be bought for $100 or less at many farm sales. One reason is that people will steal the gas from it.
