I loved the last shot at 5 min. It's the one I remember most. I used to ride the left brake to keep the tractor pulling straight. The mill boards used to get a beautiful mirror finish after a while and the points would wear smooth and slick. There is also a wonderful smell of the freshly turn earth, and birds flock over the area catching earthworms. Everything around here has gone no till and you don't see a lot of turning plough action any more. It's all Roundup and Monsanto corn.
Wow!! This brings back memories.. When I was growing up, plowing the fields on my Allis Chalmers (sp) was my job after school on our farm in rural Idaho... Those were the days.. 😉 Many, many years ago... We love ya!! God bless!
Just happened on your After Hours channel. Really nice insights to you and family. I grew up with Farmall's a Super A, and an H. Nice job plowing, 2 bottom, 14"? I always loved the smell of fresh turned soil...
What I love about these old tractors (and machines in general) is watching this you really understand what horse power is. If we had to do the same job by hand it'd be days of back breaking work. Yet that thing makes it look easy and it can do it all day long. Pretty neat when you think about it. Take care, Jay
Watched all 3 videos on your H spring service and tractoring and really enjoyed them. Thanks. I am fortunate enough to get to maintain and use my 86 year old Father-in-Laws Farmall 140 B and Farmall 230 that he bought new from the IH dealership in the 40's and 50's. Either one of them are older than I am but you can get new parts for them all day long. I just finished rebuilding the PTO Mule Pulley system that drives the belly mower on the 140. It had more *gorilla weld metal on it from makeshift repairs than original steel. Fun little project. When I got it all bolted up with a new belt on it and started to do a test mow, I caught my FIL wiping dust from his eyes when he didn't think I was looking. *Gorilla Weld = big, strong and ugly
Reminds me of "Rural Heritage" on RFD-tv. No wasteful music, commentary, etc. Just the simple joy of working the land, no matter the horsepower (or mulepower) 🙂
Nice, the only thing different that I would do is to start in the middle of the field and have two furrows on each side of the plow area so I don't waste a trip back. meaning I would be plowing in both directions.
I disagree, when you have a day that nice, what's the rush. I could plow all day on a tractor that nice. (but it would be quicker, plowing in both directions)
Or run thru it a few times with a potato picker is what me and my old man did. Not good for huge rocks but good for getting all those pesky potato sized ones out
Great video, Erick. I first learned to plow with a 2 bottom plow just like the one you are using, but hadn't been modified to hydraulics. The tractor was also a Farmall H, but with a wide front end. As I spent most of my early life working and managing dairy farms, I graduated to much bigger and more modern equipment, but have very fond memories of doing just what you showed here. Thanks. Have a blessed weekend.
Working hydraulic pump. That's kinda nice to have. I have a short video or two of a tumble plow on my channel. Tumble plow will keep you busy. Interesting fact some may not know. John Deere got it's start with plows.
I've used the old drag plows in the past with the trip , no hydraulic. Looks like you're getting it done very well Eric. I'm surprised you don't have a lot of rocks in up state N.Y. , soil looks great.
I grew up on a farm that had an "H" as the "utility" tractor. I cut a lot of hay with a sickle mower, harrowed a lot of ground, smoothing the soil in front of the planter (starting at age 10). Planted a lot of oats and alfalfa with a broadcast spreader pulled by an "H". But I never plowed with the "H" as we were using a 6 x 18 bottom plow which is a bit more than an "H" can handle. An "H" has only about 26hp which is less than some garden tractors but I'd like to see any garden tractor pull that 2 bottom plow. And the "road gear" on that thing is really something. Practically kills the engine just trying to get going in that gear.
Grandpa had an M with the close front (row) wheels and an H with the I-beam, spread apart wheels. For many years I thought this front wheel configuration was the difference. Close wheels meant it's an M and front wheels looking like an "H" means it's an H. Nope! Before he passed I was corrected. The M was a 3 bottom row tractor with a PTO and bigger engine and his M was a "Super M" with a 45hp rebuild done. Stuff we need to know about tractors :D He loved that H, man. The M was a beast of a work horse and the H was just more versatile to him. Me, I liked the little 50's ford.
I am assuming the hydraulic cylinder brings the plows back up? It was mechanical on our Oliver trailer plows. What a pain in the ass to get them to come back up sometimes, especially if you started turning before they hooked to come up. I must say your dad looks as happy and content as my dad used to being on the tractor and plowing! He absolutely loved it.
Yeah this is the 44"H" which means hydraulic. You are talking about an old trip type. They can be temperamental. Hey.. rumor has it you are coming to see me on Wednesday?
The last time I drove a farmall u could run in 4 th gear , plow a inch or so , move your draw bar one hole or so So your plow will take the full width Otherwise it was good to hear a old rundeeperdeeper
The last time I drove a farmall u could run in 4 th gear , plow a inch or so deeper, move your draw bar one hole or so So your plow will take the full width Otherwise it was good to hear a old farmall run
Is there a reason you break in only one direction? If you didn't want to break from the outside in why not break from the center so you would break both going and coming? Just wondering. Love to see the old H doing it's thing.
The last time I drove a farmall u could run in 4 th gear , plow a inch or so deeper, move your draw bar one hole or so So your plow will take the full width Otherwise it was good to hear a old run
When you get the plow pulled in.. the frame should be even with the ground you're plowing-- level ground should have a level (crosswise to the direction of travel).. its close.. but the back moldboard looks a little high...The old trip 44 I used has 2 levers to get it right... it will come out damn near perfect flat...
What great video! I've never plowed a sidehill, so it was educational. Just curious, how did you get hydraulics on an H? Is there an aftermarket kit for them?
How are those 38" tires holding up? I was sold a set with the lugs as far apart as yours seems to be. They made it two seasons of actual farming use before the lugs started tearing off the carcass of the tire. Not only that, they are about 2 inches shorter in height when stood side by side. It's almost like they are one size smaller than labeled.
In the earlier video, Eric talked about not plowing very straight. If he is looking back at the plow, but his dad is looking forward and a little to the side, maybe that's how to make things a little straighter. Then look at the furrow on the way back to the starting point to check for problems. Of course, since he had issues with the plow working correctly in the other field, Eric just may be paranoid. :)
Haha yeah deffinetly not dads first day plowing . The farm he works on now he plows with an 8 wheeled JD that pulls 10 20" bottoms. They just put in over 900 acres of corn.
It's plowing straight now and flippin sod like it should so your Dad & you made a good adjustment. According to my video play time you just plowed in 30 seconds and you seemed to be plowing at a FF pace...

Plow: I think you should have gotten a bigger plow or a tractor that can pull a bigger plow. I think you should have a plow that is at least twice the capacity of the plow you have now.
A 73 year old Farmall tractor still working like a champ, it's a beautiful thing!
Hope you make a million bucks at this, far better than TV. Reality at its realist. Props from Alberta.
There's something very therapeutic about running a tractor. I look for excuses to get on mine. Nice work out there buddy.
@Torin Cody definitely, been watching on Flixzone} for years myself :)
Hay wagon and drive the kids around, but I’m also halfway looking at going to shows when I get done restoring 😂

Nice video. I inherited a 46 H from my dad when he passed away. It was the first tractor his dad ever bought new. Their a lot of fun to drive.
That's some awfully nice pasture you're plowing up there.
Is it weird that I found watching this to be relaxing and peaceful? Wish I could be out in nature like this.
Just happened on your After Hours channel. Really nice insights to you and family. I grew up with Farmall's a Super A, and an H. Nice job plowing, 2 bottom, 14"? I always loved the smell of fresh turned soil...
Working great, I can smell the fresh dirt old old tractor smells!
It is a great smell :)

Gives you a pretty good perspective on it for sure.
It was very pleasant watching this Eric. Right now I am camping watching an old video of you in nature on the farm.
Nice straight rows Eric O!
Watched all 3 videos on your H spring service and tractoring and really enjoyed them. Thanks.

That's Cool that you still get have and enjoy working with your Dad cherish every moment I don't get to anymore since May 21,2013
I remember my Dad plowing with a old Massey when I was a kid. Loved the smell of the freshly overturned soil.

That old 45 Farmall has still got it. I love old school everything nothing like it 👍👍👍👍👍
wade hicks: It’s an IH H Farmall!!
@@dennishayes65 he means from 1945
Great video, great looking Farmall H
My father in law had a Farmall Cub tractor. He did most of the restoration on it, was a fine tractor! Yours is a real nice tractor!!
Real tractors are red :)
+Outdoors With Eric O I'm going to pretend you never said that...
r we still friends?
+Outdoors With Eric O. Yes, haha :p
Wheewww
Dad's doing a great job Eric :-)
Imagine running that thing 70 years ago trying to run a farm. Brutal! Nice work.
Not when you just upgraded from a one bottom and a horse!
God almighty...I cant even imagine plowing behind a mule or horse all day with that type of plow. Those were some tough folks.
Wouldnt bother a man.
very relaxing change for you I am sure, nice to see all the surroundings.
Looks like paradise.
Looks like a lot of fun. Eric O.
i love people who make these type of videdos

Mechanic by day and Simple Life Kinda Man After Hours Love it great video as always Eric O @After Hours With Eric O.
I plowed a bunch with an old Super C, and we used an old Super A for cultivating, and weed control duties.

How do you manage a dairy farm. Ive never known one to need a manager.
Looks like a good time. Great tractor! We recently rebuilt a Farmall H that has an A frame lift
Good stuff Eric, straight as an arrow.
As long as you save the beer for later it is haha

Lovely ploughing

Nice. I spent many hours as a youth pulling 4 and 5 bottom plows, disking, harvesting. Field work was my favorite. So I became a physicist. 🤦♂️
30 years ago I owned a David Brown P25 (1954ish))and a David Brown 990 (1963ish)
When I was around 18-20 years old ;)
This classifies as “oddly satisfying “
I plow with a '41 H, and Deere 44H plow with 14" bottoms. They're a well matched pair.
Good Job Boss..........
Looks perfect.
I've used the old drag plows in the past with the trip , no hydraulic. Looks like you're getting it done very well Eric.

No computer and it is still getting the job done ✅
It’s Eric O’Farmer on a Farmall.
You just cannot get the real sound these tractors made when plowing..That high pitch engine screaming was unique they were Farmall
Beautiful grass tho. No weeds. Almost hate to see it tilled up but I'm a hunter so I get it. Gotta have food plots.

it is pretty satisfying actually

nicely done ploughing job. what you really don't want to do is hook into a big tree root.
