Too many comments holding (and I stress this) a * 15 year old boy * to the artistic integrity & originality of apparent seasoned, mature, adult players.
Emulating your heroes, clothing style included, is a step in the process of maturation we have all experienced, whether it be musicians, sports stars, etc.
The difference here is that Rhys’ journey has been captured on camera, which has brought him many benefits, but also leaves him open to unfair criticism of this formative stage of his development.
There are early pictures of SRV dressed completely like Jimi at gigs, and he was much older than 15. We allow him that phase, but not this kid?
Let him do his thing
Thankyou!
Fr
Yeah it bums me out to see people disparaging him. He’s incredibly talented and appears to have a bright musical future ahead of him.
Absolutely well said. It's shameful to see so much bitter criticism of such a young talented musician from other adults. All of our favourite guitarists have, including SRV, are licks borrowed from their heroes and put together in a slightly different way.
Please shout this from the valley to the mountain tops.
i don’t think people who aren’t autistic understand how deeply those of us who are get into our special interests. they quite literally become who we are.
when Rhys mentioned being on the spectrum in this podcast it made his love of Stevie make so much sense.
when you’re autistic and find something or someone that you love so much that you want to revolve your entire life around it, it can change your life for the better for ever.
seeing an autistic teenager get out of a dark place and developing confidence they never had before by dressing and playing like their hero brings me nothing but joy.
Everyone needs to relax. He's 15 years old. He's got his whole life to evolve he is only just beginning.
people are worried that alcoholic\drug addicted adults are going to put their issues and stress onto him
I played hundreds of shows in the 90s as a singing drummer then solo acoustic guitar shows by the thousands from 2000 until 2016 and barely remember any of it...just bits and pieces. I met Stevie and his brother in 1984 at a show in a Dallas club in 1984. I heard Pride and Joy on a local radio station while visiting my sister and said, "Who is THAT???" It sounded so exciting and new. Her husband grew up in Oak Cliff and knew the Vaughans so they took me to meet him. I didn`t know at the time how lucky I was to speak to them and shake their hands. Stevie though was very worried that his growing popularity was drawing attention away from his brother because he was a guest that night at his brother`s show.
Cool story! Thanks mate:)
What an impressive young man. As a life long Blues lover, it gives me great joy seeing someone as young as Rhys connect with and carry the Blues torch forward, we need more like him. Best of luck on your journey Rhys, I'll be watching/listening. 🎸
Big admirer of Rhys. Can you imagine how good he's going to be when he's 30!?
People rarely get better once they get good. Look at vids of Joe B when he was this age. He hasn't gotten any better.
Diminishing returns man. As a guitar player you probably have 3 humps to get over, with the first one being just passing the initial learning process. It’s easy to plateau after you’re proficient.
@@rcanderson4328and the other two humps?
I have an Austic son. When they get into anything, they give it all their attention and concentration.
It's good for this young man to be able to follow someone he identifies with.
Stevie Ray would be supportive.
Literally watching and thinking "I bet he's on the spectrum" and sure enough. Incredible. A lot of admiration for him.
It's fantastic that Rhys has been able to really help his mental health though the power of music. Forget the 'oh he's just a Stevie Ray copy cat' the lad sounds like his mental health really was making him house bound so for me good on him. And for keeping Stevie Ray alive for a bit longer...Brilliant
If he’s 15 he should never hear anything about being a copycat he should be at that age
@@BuryMeInBabylonPeople are wild. We all start by copying someone. At 15 I was still putzing around the basic pentatonic scale thinking I was the next Hendrix.
As we age, we imitate the players we love. If you listen to your heart you'll find yourself.
It s good that u found blues when u r at the young age before indulge in rock n roll to metal genre, because blues is the root of them all, and it s the gateway to your own style of original music.
He was into punk, rock and metal before he even knew who srv was lol
We don’t need another SRV this kids got skills I think he will find his own way like Eric Gales 😊
Or like John mayer
Adulation and emulation need to morph into something more original, which is scary and difficult.
He’ll get there.
Hey Rhys, Keep Bending Em!! Making your Mum very proud!! I'm sure of it!! And your Sis!!

This kid is awesome cause he knows that great blues comes from inside and to not over think thing's to much. Its so awesome to see a young kid being so into the blues and srv. Yes there are alot of srv people out there but i feel at some point he will add his own flavors to it and make it his own thing then thats what i wanna watch take shape so im gonna keep following this kid.
Well done gents. It is amazing how addictive SRV music is. Personally I was introduced to SRV 1984-85 by a friend of a friend whose being studding 1 year in Texas. This guy had the 2 first records LP,s with SRV with him back home. Since that day music was never the same again, it was SRV all the way. And I never stoped listening to SRV.
I listened for as long as I could and then I fast forwarded and he never played the guitar 🤪 his name is not even in the title so it’s not easy to look his music up. WTF
I love how Marcus and Rhys represent Blues playing in England and America, Hope they meet one day 🤘
Being an SRV fan myself, I understand the fascination, but it comes to a point where you have to be you! The whole point of playing guitar is to express yourself.. How is that possible when you're trying to be a clone? In my opinion, the worst part of doing this is that most of them could be great players on their own merits! Stunting their growth musically & limiting career growth! Stevie was wise enough not to be a Jimi, Albert & Robert Johnson copy.. steal a little & make it your own!
Before I'm crucified in the comments, let me make this very clear, this young man is amazing & I'm not doubting his potential.. maybe the title should be different?
He is 15 and needs encouragement only!
@@xfu1993 I totally agree, but he's trying to make a career & world doesn't need & will never have another SRV!
@@dans1328 Are you his mom? Grow a pair!
@@g.graves89392 months later and you're still bitterly jealous of the young man's talents. That's no place to be handing out advice from. Srv copied Jimi constantly. Furthermore if I was his mother I wouldn't need a pair (of balls, presumably).
@@dans1328 Are you triggered?😢
This kid's on a good path going forward - has the insight to respect those that forged the road for those to follow - that's appreciable. Also it's so important to find the correct instrument - and THAT alone can take years to do. Those that know, know your sound primarily comes from your hands - but the play-ability of THE correct instrument just brings YOUR sound to the forefront . . .
Great Video. Rhys can do whatever he likes. I think what he is doing is great! keep it up.
There only one srv no one can replace him but using him also inspiration is good
Have to say, Stevie Ray Vaughans are not family pets where one dies and you just get another one. There was one, in his time. Tired of hat and strat players that wanna be him.
Agree, be yourself, keep going you will find what that is.
Dude I’m 13 and love the blues so much and southern rock!
He has so much insight for a 15 year old. You can really tell he is reflective, and extremely aware of his surroundings. Very intelligent, and very well spoken.
Kid looks more like Ronnie Van Zant
Again, when this young man develops rhythm and timing, give me a call.
I would love to meet Rhys. From one young player another he is a great example of what all of us kids should aspire to be like. Sure i can play pretty well but i have a big ego persay. And rhys is a pretty darn good player and he has no ego problem. Altho he is graced with the luck of the algorithm and his clearly awsome parents. Rhys you shred
This kid seems like a cool dude in addition to being a killer player. Remember: They hate us cause they ain’t us!
The hardest part about being an artist is being creative. Very few people have creativity. I can play those Stevie songs just as good a rys, but we can't invent that stuff. Even some of the average guitarists are excellent song writers.
I Can't stress this enough. Anyone can play guitar. But very few people can write amazing songs.
Learn to write songs not play guitar
It would be interesting to see how many of these young kids that fall into this srv thing don’t have a father figure around. Im no doctor but i bet theres something to that.
Yeah, it’s either hordes of Srvs out looking for their daddy’s or murderers. It’s always one or the other
Your comment is weird and creepy. Good job 👏
And why would you bet on that? Spend a lot of time with young fatherless kids?
Likely baby boomer parents. They’re the ones that like to neglect spending time with their kids and being a positive influence. They’d much rather spend their time and money on RVs and Guitars that they can’t play for shit.
I’m more concerned that this company pedal pawn seem to be exploiting a clearly vulnerable child to sell their products. How low can you go . Welcome to 2024
There will never be a NEXT....
I love Stevie, but how about he be the first Rhys John Stygal first. There are sooo many Stevie clones, Instead of copying a style, so close that you're being compared as the next SRV. There are 30,000 cities in the USA, and there is at least one Stevie "prodigy" in each one.. Come up with something modern/original/marketable or the prodigy thing will wear off as soon as he becomes an adult. There are many blues prodigies that are now roofers. If not, then he'll be a Joe Bonamassa without the vintage guitar collection gimmick, and just like him, standing on the shoulders of many great bluesman, playing stolen licks to a dwindling aging audience.
Everything is an imitation of everything else and grows
Very harsh but accurate take lol. Especially about bonamassa. Imo.
This is nothing but the truth.
Who gives a shit play what you love the rest of it doesn’t matter.
You didn’t even have time to watch the whole thing before you wrote your stupid comment😂. Were you on a roof?
He’s a kid. He will find his own thing with time and experience. It does no good to bash him and discourage him from doing things this way if it inspires him. This is part of his journey.
The world doesn't need another SRV. We need musicians to be themselves.

44:50
Wow,, It's Rhys.
I have seen him playing some blues, and It's awesome.
Been watching Rhys for a while. He’s got it
That’s awesome! Yes, he sure does 🤠🎸
you mean the next next next next next SRV? there will never be another but if there was its Derek Trucks hahah and he doesnt play like SRV like the so called "next SRV" we keep hearing about since the 1990s haha. Simply put there will never be another Stevie Ray Period. John Mayer and Derek Trucks have made THE big time playing lead guitar in blues pop rock ....ya.
Be yourself that’s the only thing you’re going to do great!!! No one can be a better version of you other then you.
BE ORIGINAL!!!
Kid is a great player. I hope he evoles as he ages. When i was his age, i was pretty much trying to be a white jimi. I eventually found my own identity.
Step into your own shoes. That's where you'll really shine, kid.
By the way. Everyone keeps talking about amps being too loud. Try a JHS little black amp box. Holy cow I can crank the amp but control the volume with the amp box. It sounds killer with my Fender Blues Deluxe 40watt amp. Either with the Texan Twang in front or the Kingtone Blues pedal. The new version. Sounds absolutely killer
Unless he's run away from home, his parents need to chill with the promotion. Let this kid develop out of the spotlight, let him grow up and experience life or he won't be a great artist. You can't become a good artist without life experience, including loss, misery, failure, learning from mistakes. PARENTS! Get your shit together, protect your child and quit trying to make money with him. Leave your talented child in the oven until he's at least 18. He's talented, but he's not some spectacular rarity - especially here in Texas, he'd be one of many talented SRV 15yr olds who actually grew up in Texas blues. Stop talking to a 15 year old about "life", are you kidding me? All 15 yr olds are morons, no matter how they appear. And frankly, Interviewing a 15 yr old child for profit is sleazy as fuck and clearly made me uncomfortable.
Haven't we been here before with Jonny Lang? He's not SRV! He's himself. I know we miss Steve Ray but pressure we put on these uoung artists is unreasonable.
I hope Rhys isn't forever saddled with being a SRV caricature, yes he gets much inspiration from the man but hopefully he can channel this, and other influences, to create a new sound that further pushes the boundaries of blues guitar. He is still young so hopefully it will come.
@@MrMcflanigengaming No one asked you fool
@@MrMcflanigengaming lol you must be new to reading 📚 so on this occasion you are forgiven for misinterpreting my comment.
@@largeeng yeah I can read 😂 More negative shit from a asshole. SRV was saddled by Jimi Hendrix. So why do you love SRV for it ,but wine like a little vile nimrod when this kid does it. Try enjoying something.
Sebaceous Ray Vaughan
360p gang!!! I wouldn't watch many videos in 360p, but this was an exception to that rule. Great video/podcast!
he is the best
So, generationally, can this guy be called the next SRV? Or would it be more accurate to call him the next KWS? Or maybe just call him RJS? Or Rhys if he prefers.
Like Stevie said when asked about Hendrix.. "There's only one Jimi Hendrix, and there is only one Stevie Ray Vaughan. And I'm him". He is NOT at all the next Stevie Ray Vaughan, nor should he or you want him to be. He should want to be the FIRST "Rhys Stygal".
I absolutely love this lad!!
I have been listening to SRV since I was a teenager but I still can’t play like him, this guy can!!
The trouble with trying to be a Stevie Clone, is IT CAN NEVER HAPPEN! I have watched close to 100 SRV concerts the past 4 or 5 years, and everyone has a different solo in it. I mean EVERYONE of the songs! Each and every night was different! THAT CAN'T BE TEACHED! The kid should also be listening to Derek Trucks!!! Derek is the same as a SRV, in the sense he plays different EVERY NIGHT! SRV and Derek never play it safe. So good luck kid, but set away from the Stevie comparison, ASAP As John Mayer said in the SRV Tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he makes it clear, there wont be another SRV.
Great PC! This kid is AMAZING!!
cool young man😊
He's an intelligent young guy, his intellect is way beyond his years, but he's like all young people who like to dress like and emulate their heroes, completely normal, give him a break. Good luck to him with his guitar playing and wherever it takes him.
people are also forgetting he’s autistic also, and being super harsh and critical against a young lad doing something positive with his talent
Could you describe your hat young man
Next Clint Eastwood.
SRV fan wetdream...
me and rhys are very similar, i feel we could be good friends
ive been playing for a year less than him but im nowhere close to his talent
That’s awesome mate, keep bluesing on 🤠🎸
Do you listen to your countryman, Dan Patlansky ?
Awesome upload. Really enjoyed this interview, such a good lad this guy.
in south africa its crazy hard to find people with a passion like this for the blues
Blues isn’t as popular as you may think. Among guitarist it’s very popular but that’s about it.
It wasn’t that popular when Stevie turned it around either
@@Pablo-mw8cdyeah this has been my experience too. Seems like mainstream in my world. But in the bigger picture, it ain’t that popular.
Give me a break already - How about covering some guitarists that don't aspire to be a deceased legend or play in tribute bands?
How bout you sit there and enjoy this young man who plays like SRV ..but he never got a chance to see him on tv ... plz stfu
He’s not too bad at all. All the hater’s saying he’s not even nearly as good as Stevie. Come on guys he’s 15 yrs old. Most of kids his age are still trying to learn how to play Nirvana or Metallica. I think he should be encouraged to play the blues. Maybe not trying to be like Stevie but trying to get his own sound and style rather than trying to simply copy Stevie. It’s fine being 15 and playing like Stevie. But in the end there’s only one Stevie. Folks should give him his due but try to develop their own sound. Just my opinion
This guy has already had more promotion as the next SRV, than SRV received in his entire recording career.
Impressiv what difference the Internet makes
Stevie was the next Hendrix. Even recorded covers by Hendrix. Maybe try being optimistic
@@MrMcflanigengaming there was one Hendrix.. Stevie loved Jimi of course, but he was and always wanted to do his thing..
it’s only the media and goons that like to say the next..
@@Texasbluestunes Stevie didn’t just love Hendrix he idolized him. The same way this kid does. He even addressed what where talking about in the video. I guess you didn’t watch it.
@@MrMcflanigengaming he idolized Albert King too. You take offense and keep bumping about this.. it’s ok..really, He’s a kid. He’s entitled to have idols, we all did. What’s messed up is that many adults out there, while showcasing his abilities, which are no doubt strong, are doing him a disservice, in my opinion. Can we put this shit to rest?
I gotta resonate....lol.
As long as the kid matures into someone who ultimately follows his own path etc etc etc then he will have the most amazing future. If. However he stays as a meme of Stevie, then things will pan out very different long term.
Wow….so what song is he famous for?
who cares. he’s a 15 year old lad, who’s dealt with adversity, become a great player at an early age and is doing something positive with his life. stop being bitter.
So jealous.
i’m born in the uk, been playing for 10yrs self taught and stevie ray vaughan kinda took over my taste in music at the age of 16/17. no one i know knows who he is phaha
Tell me about it man, I'm also from UK and 90% of people my age (27) have no idea about the music I listen to, usually preferring rap, electronic and pop music. Seems like most young people have no interest in music older than the 90's
@@youreatoilet yh bro i’m 20, i do listen to a lot of american rap tho but when i want to play guitar i always have artists like srv to listen to before i play
no disrespect to this kid, he's got huge talent. But SRV didn't become SRV by being BB King or... he became himself. To say the NEXT SRV, how about just be Rhys John Stygal. SRV can never be replaced.
Agreed. A click bait title.
LMAO......the next Michael Jordan is never the next Michael Jordan.
I Fully support the kid tho. ✌
He has to be able to be himself first, let alone a SRV clone.
What a fantastic video have you read music while playing guitar chris have a wonderful day ❤😊
Looks wise is between Marcus King and John Popper lol
Hey. I really like your videos. I have been watching you for several weeks and you are amazing at guitar. I play guitar too. I have a UA-cam channel called Huntley Gray and I play Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Anyone else having trouble with the video loading?
This one is a massive file, it seems to be working on our devices, hopefully it will work soon for you 🤞
There's only one SRV so many have Stevie on the brain hey just be your self the SRV has already been done....
we dont say the next SRV because there was only one im sure his family get offended by that, have some respect, try the next SRV prodigy they said that about kenny wayne shepard and john mayer and johnny lang , ive heard him play and he has some great chops but he isnt , nor will he or anybody else be SRV so STOP IT. dude dont let them do that to ya , you will end up loseing your sense of who you really are .
It caught your eye, made you click and comment, didn’t it?
what now its just click bait, yeah, try this....instead of click bait make it more interesting , and dont insult an icon in the process.
The Next SRV? Hell tf no not even close
Just cause you can’t play better than this kid?😂
@@Vampire102 what would you know little kid.. obviously you're not a guitar player or an SRV fan
10:26
I can't even get it to load 😢
Apologies for the issue, you’re not the only one, it’s a huge file this one but hopefully it will be better tomorrow ❤️
the time it takes to get any of SrvS licks up to speeed with the accuracy he does is ridiculous.. not to mention the dynamics, giant strings, loudness… come on.. and anybody hating on it is just a hater who learn can barely use the pentatonic scale ….. anybody who says anything to u challenge them to post a cover… u won’t hear from them again
Oooo u r so cool. Yea, man , oh yea man, ya know, . .... yea gush , swoon, even Stevie only garnered a minimal niche audience, and ironically for the same reasons.
Young guitar players should create their own style not copy someone else.
Sorry boys and girls, there will "never" be another SRV. No one will ever do what he did with a guitar. None before nor none since. To me he was the guitar Mozart. No one bangs 13ga strings and breaks them on a regular basis. Emotion, tone, flawless raw power. Never again.
Oh geez ..gimme a break. There's all kinds of great guitar players. I love SRV, blew me away when he first came out, but there's Gary Moore...Joe Bonamassa...no such a thing as the greatest.
My fav guitar player is the one I listened to that day .
Open your ears, all kinds of fabulous players in the world.
If you know the Blues, you know he was a melting pot of a lot of Greats, some say it was just Albert King and Jimi Hendrix, shortsighted imo, when i see young people that play so well, i believe that they are an old soul that is coming back around, John Mayer is very capable of carrying that torch, but i think he does not want anything to do with any comparisons, Jan S....keep the Blues Alive I miss Gary Moore soooooo Much,
Not a single note ?
He’s no Stevie Ray. Stevie was a true original - often copied but never bettered. The lads got skills but he needs to find his own path - his own sound & if he’s good enough then he may do well on his own terms - otherwise he’s just another clone.
Are we not gonna play? Just sit around talking...
Thanks for the comment. This is a podcast, there’s about 10 videos of Rhys playing on our channel from the same day 🤠🚀
He doesn’t quite have it. Tommy Katona is the man.
He started playing in March 2020.... so, stop bashing him.... he will always be 100 times better than the average wannabe here behing his keyboard...
You should sound like your soulmates without shame. We should look like our family gladly. No one accuses symphonies of being Beethoven clones, they judge the wisdom and soul of the interpretation.
I’ve tended to think the ‘just a clone’ thing in the past but then I look into history and find virtually everyone was called a clone when they were this young. Srv himself heard the Hendrix clone accusation even after he was a legend, by voices that sound jaded today, not objective. I think if it’s your true soul and spirit today, your reality, is more important than who wrote it or how it relates to past artists.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Max quality 360p ? ;/
4K is currently rendering, huge file on this one 🚀
find your own path john, stop copying people, weird champ.
No note is played
“John Mayer - meh?” Come on, Rhys
Please please please.... we need to stop doing this. There will never be another SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie VH, Alan Holdsworth, Danny Gatton, Prince, Miles Davis, John Lennon, Bob Marley.. etc... PERIOD!!!!
To say the title of this vid is a stretch. He can play srv songs doesn't make him the next person to do what stevie did. I don't see this kid inspiring players like stevie did. He's a new generation elvis impersonator.
He's 15 and can play similar to SRV. Envy is always an ugly trait. As he develops, so will his genre.
Too many adverts, Too Too many adverts
Stygal Rhys John - SRJ
Playing dress up.....musically.
7:30 Rhys is clearly quoting Stevie and he's getting told he's constructing incredible sentences. Painful viewing.
