Can't express how amazing this interview is. Tyrone sharing his ideology on music and living it, is sincerely priceless. He's passing on some serious JUJU and experience. He's an incredible member of the Vaughan Family of musicians! Thank You for THIS!
Thanks to Tyrone and Pedal Pawn for this loving talking about my Best Hero and his family! No one can be the same stuff in one word : Texas Hero , Texas Blues ,NumberOne, Powerful Soul , Perfect Electric Guitar Tone …! My best greetings from Italy … you got here a huge “ devoto “ fan ! Hugs 🤗 💙❤️💙 ! 👋
Cool to get to hear this interview. I met Stevie and Jimmie in Dallas and was able to shake their hands and speak to them in the 80s right after Stevie`s Texas Flood album started getting airplay after hearing him on Q102 FM and expressing my amazement. My sister`s husband grew up with him in Oak Cliff and they knew him and took me to meet him at a Jimmie Vaughan show in the Dallas area. Stevie was very paranoid that night that he was drawing attention away from his brother but I came there to meet him to tell him how much I loved the song Pride And Joy. I`d never heard anything like it before. Amazingly I also met Darrell Abbott that same month outside of Dallas at a big lake and got a guitar lesson from him, Foolin by Def Leppard, on a Fender acoustic. He also taught me how to tune a guitar. I did at least remember that part of the lesson. I was a singing drummer in a band at the time and was able to tune guitars for our band before practice afterward. I didn`t actually start playing guitar until I stopped playing drums in bands in 1999. The first song I learned the next year was Be Like That by 3 Doors Down, then Sleep In Your Arms by Willie Nelson, then Tell Lorrie by Keith Whitley, then Outside by Staind. When I came back to Dallas in 1985 to do a construction job I went to see Darrell play clubs with Pantera and never forgot the name. My sister told me in late 1988 that they were probably about to hit the big time but that contract fell through but then they got another one. I couldn`t believe what I was hearing when Cowboys From Hell came out.
I became a fan of Jimmy Vaughn about a week or 10 days after i piked up texas flood shortly after its release. I was in a mom and pop record store, and the owner had befriended me as a budding roots music fan in a time of punk/new wave/hair metal radio domination. As i paid for texas flood, the owner asked me if I'd ever heared of the Thunderbirds. When i said, "not yet", he put a record on the store system. I went back the next week after I cashed my paycheck. Picked up as many texas based LPs as i could aford that day. In the following few years, i saw SRV play 5 times and i swear, the best show was the one when the fabulous Thunderbird opened, and Jimmy joined Stevie on stage for part of the show. Fantastick and honestly just a geeat deal of fun. I also saw the Thunderbirds play a show at a club. Great times. Il always be a fan of that whole family . They all are a part of my life that bring me joy when i need it. If im ever within driving distance of Tyrone Vaughn playing, i will be there.
i recon it should be every musicians goal to visit the clubs in America. the quality of live music is full on. It's also great to listen to mature musicians talk of how to approach playing guitar.
Great interview guys! Both Ty and Chris…… Excellent commentary on how Stevie played fast at times but it never sounded rushed…. Also how Jimmie dials back his volume a bit…. Well done guys! H. 😎😎
i am watching the whole interview in school right now (I am not allowed but I don't care because guitar is more important than school for me) but this is the best podcast on your channel. Please keep going I love it!🎸🎛🎼🎶🎵
If you are in touch with Tyrone ask him if he knows the name JOE HURT.....? Joe and his relative were on the Montreaux tour with Stevie... Joe gave Stevie his first Hendrix records he told me and Stevie would go home learn it all come back gimme another one lol and Joe would say well I just gave you one and Stevie would play it back.. Joes Relative had the greatest guitar part collection id ever seen in one spot before EVERYTHING in organized boxes and tables were deep in the booths so two booths wide two deep with every vintage guitar part you could imagine need a real decal still in the wax paper right this way how bout for 4k I could have got a sheet of original pickguard material for flying v or explorer only from the 50s.... we were talking about it and he said look if you laid things out you could get about 6 guards.. They had original paf rings tips all the parts and if you needed pickups also get your wallet out cause he had that too... Tyrones Daddy would know that mans name its Joe Hurts relative....Im not sure if Joe is still around he would know him as HEAVY CAT... NOTORIOUS STORIES ABOUT HEAVY CAT..... Id bet Heavy Cat was near where Tyrone grew up in Dallas just an educated hunch... I would like to speak to Tommy Katona and Mimisounds im not super far from them and they should come play The DUMBLE AND STEVIES CAB.... I DONT THINK THEY WOULD HATE IT LOL..... I spied they are building a guitar and had some custom color bodies I made and Necks from 280 year old wood old stash from Boogie Bodies guitars you know those guys who built Van Halens first necks. THAT WOOD....... please ask them to check Buckners phone please Detailed photos there of the custom colors and amps cabs ect.... Id like for them to make a TEXAS GUITAR WHICH WAS MADE IN TEXAS BY A NATIVE TEXAN WHO IS ME......... HOWDY YALL DONT BE SHY COME SEE AN OLD FAT MAN.......
I own Srvs old 4x12 cab its a 68 basetweave cab cane front metal handle cab he gifted to another player..I bought it in Austin next to Saxon pub...years ago its for sale in Texas if anyone is interested...... Tommy Katona has the contact information. lived in Austin since 1981 through 2003 still have it must sell.... near Dallas Tommy Shannon knows the cab...
Tyrone is a lot like his Dad. Plays a lot like him too, you can tell he picked up a lot from his Dad. I always hated how people compared Jimmy to Stevie that didn’t understand it wasnt a competition, and never was. It was just the blues.
I feel like if SRV gave me a guitar I'd cherish it... If my uncle gave me a guitar I'd cherish it too. However I can't sell anything, which is a curse. You wouldn't sell a guitar gifted by your idol, bit maybe you'd sell a guitar gifted by your uncle. So when a legend is just your uncle, that's a different story, it's not that unfortunate to sell that guitar, in the end.
Americans are hurting badly at the moment and they need the money which is why things are being sold... so people can eat... when people cant sell anything to eat its gonna get real bad real fast and it already is real bad real fast. LOOK AROUND.. YOU SEE THE TROUBLE THIS COUNTRY IS IN...????? I own one of his old 4x12 cabs when you go to sell it nobody to be found to buy it...... Tommy Shannon knows the cabinet he commented on it stating he remembered the Happy Birthday Texas sticker on the back knew it soon as I described it.. So its for sale to the best offer and you see market value on something that old as is is near 5k just for any 68 basketweave cab.... Its the economy and people are suffering.... thats why everything is for sale........
@@henrykobee Was just thinking the same thing, SRV is my hero and just a mountain of a figure in my mind. But for him, it was just crazy uncle Steve, who likes to have a bit of drink. Most can relate to that side of it. He probably doesn't worship his uncle like we do. He definitely has love for the man tho. Seems like his dad was his hero.

Glad to see you're carrying the torch, Tyrone. Your Uncle Stevie-exquisite playing. Your Dad, Jimmie-equally exquisite.

Lovely to see how Tyrone encourages and compliments this young guy. He seems like a really good guy.
