Looks like a nice solid original bug! Good work, there should be a foam gasket that sits between the frame and the tank. I'd have been tempted to take the connector of the thingy on the fuel gauge, put a nut on it down on the gauge and try it. Original is always better than aftermarket.
@@mobilemotorsport often are. Don't expect anything good quality. I ordered one and it was terrible, ended up replacing it with some foam of my own that had glue one side. Stuck it straight to the tank. Pretty sure I did a video including it.
Thanks for the video. I just picked up a 76 with similar issues. I ended up just buying a new gas tank but it didn’t come with the fuel sender unit. Just curious where you picked yours up form. Thanks 🙏
Great video!! I have a 73 and I appreciate your video. I'm looking to do some of the same updates. What made you use the hi/lo pressure fuel pump? What improvements did you notice since installing it? Thanks again for your videos.
I planned on installing a Dual Carb system down the road but later changed my mind. It does give a lot of fuel for a stock carb but I regulated it down to almost 1psi to not flood the carb. The Carter pump is designed to be dead headed and has an internal bypass so i did not need to route any return lines or anything!
Great work and nice Video and i was curious i saw you removed the charcoal canister vent. do your tank just vent via your gas cap and did you see some issue of pressure and also gas smell, i got a 75 and i will love to removed my canister. and keep it sample.
@Mars36912 make sure you have a vented cap. I had a horrible smell of fuel before with it all leaking so the little scent right after fill up wasn't so bad. You could probably use a small generic canister off amazon if you want a cleaner look
Great Video! Hey what size fuel hose do you use? I think I have nailed down the fuel filter part numbers (7023006D and 702323) but I wasn't sure which size fuel hose to use. Is it 1/4" or 3/8"? I'm making me a parts list to buy. My tank needs to come out and get flushed for sure. I think all the rain we got here in GA wasn't too friendly on the bug.
You know the work is gonna be good when the thin fella with no belt is wearing a cap indoors.
Very nice video!
Good to know! Thanks for the info!!
Mate I'm about to make some restoration videos on my Karmann Ghia. I'll be going through the exact same process. Thanks for showing me how!
Feel free to ask Questions! Good Luck
need to get that fuel filter out of the engine compartment. a lot of times they leak and cause fires.
Nice work!

Very nice work, it looks amazing 👏
Thanks! Instead of backfiring, it now shoots fire out of the exhaust!

Good call. I'm going to have to order a new tank seal! It was completely gone before removal

@KevinBoswell-l1r 1/4 inch will be fine unless your running dual carb or a high flow engine
I do have a dual carburetor actually, you may have told me how to fix my fuel problem! Thank you!! Again…great video!
@@KevinBoswell-l1r you want low pressure but high flow. Too much pressure will overpower the float and flood your engine
I want a Beetle now! Think it can be a kart tow rig? 🤔
Definitely! It pulls hard (for a bug) now that it gets the fuel it needs
Nice work!
