- Another sunny day, ditching the car and hopping on the motorcycle. But first, we needed nourishment in the form of roti and talkarie before heading up to Lopinot. Seeing the other side of the mountain was literally a breath of fresh air. Come with us and enjoy.

What a journey! You guys not only live smack dab in the middle of what may be referred to in some parts of the world as a NATIONAL FOREST, but also ON A VAST HISTORIC SITE!!! Put another way, what tourists pay millions to travel and see IS YOUR BACKYARD! Consider this great fortune by pretending to be a tourist from, say, Russia just for a few moments.
Thanks for slowing down the pace of the video and zooming into interesting things along the way - churches, old buildings and architecture, street vendors, trees, leaves, fruit; too much to mention, but here's the benefit in my view - it's very much a VIRTUAL TOUR GUIDE, and 'Sana's voice is PERFECT FOR THE ROLE! Hint, hint.
Very soon, or maybe it's already happening, but it'll get bitterly cold in some parts of the world. Virtual Tours like this will be the only escape for many viewers.
Great highlights of the Place you ordered the food; nice and clean too!!! I particularly like how you guys interact with the local folk in markets, and along the way. Can't wait for Episode II.
'Sana's summary of the History of Caura and Lopinot was fascinating! He has that talent, and I can listen to him all day long!
Here's a little something to add to your Tour; perhaps it may be of some small value for your audience.
The CHARACTERS WITH THE STRING INSTRUMENTS AT THE LOPINOT ESTATE are depicting what Trinidadians call a PARANG GROUP or a PARANG SIDE. Lopinot is FAMOUS FOR what's called PARANG MUSIC or PLAYING PARANG, or simply PARANG, and PARANG MUSIC COMPETITIONS are held there around Christmas time if memory serves me correctly.
The people of Caura and Lopinot are a rich and unique mixture of Amerindian, Spanish, Mestizo, Pardo, and African heritage, and this exotic blend of cultures and traditions is something which is strongly reflected in PARANG MUSIC itself.
The word PARANG is interesting! While Wikipedia defines it as a composition of two Spanish words - parranda, meaning "a spree”, and parar meaning "to stop", I politely beg to differ.
My analysis of the word PARANG is based on the fact that the Singers and Musicians in the ORIGINAL PARANG GROUPS or PARANG SIDES as they're called in Trinidad is a small group of, for lack of a better term, STREET REVELLERS who went, and still go, from house to house typically without invitation playing STRING INSTRUMENTS and singing PARANG TUNES AND SONGS in exchange for a drink which is traditionally RUM.
That act of playing music and gallivanting is more akin to GOING OUT ON THE TOWN (or one may describe it as PAINTING THE TOWN RED so to speak), and the SPANISH EQUIVALENT IS PARANDEAR; literally pronounced as: PA-RAN-DE-AR. I should point out that since Trinidad has been heavily influenced by Venezuela, Trinidadians often pronounce Spanish words like their Venezuelan neighbors; as a result, when Venezuelans pronounce the LETTERS "AN" in a Spanish word, they say "ANG" so they add the letter "G". This is basically why the Spanish word - PARANDEAR - would be pronounced - PARANGDEAR, but remember the "G" is not in the formal spelling, it's just a Venezuelan insertion. Hence Trinidadians get the word PARANG and PARANG MUSIC by leaving out the -DEAR portion of: PARANDEAR!
One more observation. Lasana would make a brilliant RESTORER OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS!!!! Hint, hint, hint until next time.
I drank in every single word. I felt like you were right here with us. Next to us speaking and sharing these wonderful pieces of info. We pay attention to everything that you say. Everything! Thank you my friend ❤️
@@ellisfoodandmore6008 Thanks for your kind words. One day we'll certainly sit and have a good chin-wag. Glad you pick up on the hints, and just for laughs, I can taste the food you guys cook as if I were right there, no kidding. Keep on keeping on; I'll keep dropping my hints whenever I catch the opportunities based on your content. Stay well, keep smiling, and chin up always.
Ellis, If I remember correctly, that old building at 14:04 used to be a Masonic lodge, located in Arouca. We used to live not far from there (Corner of Railway Road). I haven't seen that location for over 47 years. Thank you for history lesson. Cheers!
Nice History lesson, my Grandmother's family name is Rivas from Lopinot, Mom grew up in Caura and have some long lost family in Lopinot 🙂🙂 we also have family from Lafillet and Blancheusseuse, my siblings and I were born and grew up in St. James P.O.S. and all my August vacations as a child was spent in Blancheusseuse with my parents and siblings, the best times of my life ❤ that food is making me hungry!!! 🙂🙂 Trini in Brooklyn

Everything is just beautiful lush greenery natural landscaping historical buildings makes me wonder how it use to be back In those days. Parangderos cocoa house colonial building beautiful dirt oven society has failed us today if only the younger generation could appreciate these things. I don't mind they upgrade the building but I would like them to keep it most original as can be I just love the rustic look of the house with the moss on the roof and the bridge that you cross to reach the house. You have a beautiful family thankyou for educating your little girls on these historic places and many more things. Thanks for the vlog will be looking forward to many more God bless you Sana and the girls 👭 Ellis.
Thank you Cherry Ann. Yes. You said it perfectly 🥰 💞 the good thing is we can live our lives simply and try to attain a certain level of happiness and contentment. Can't wait to go back and share with you 💕
Greetings from Grenada 🇬🇩. Love your vlogs. Stay blessed.
Heyyy sheril. Wow. We welcome Grenada in the house 🥳 🎉. So happy you are here with us ❤️ Love to Grenada.
Excellent coverage of the Lopinot complex, haven't been there in over 20 years. What is disappointing is apart from the parang monument no developments to improve the experience and increase tourism for the area. Improving the experience may include dirt oven baking and sales on weekends, having guided tours, educational activities for the kids. So much untapped potential there and its easily accessible.
I totally see your vision. When I was there I heard talks about some plans for renovating.
Great adventure you guys know your stuff your daughters and so beautiful like mom.👍🇨🇦
Awwww. What a smile you brought to my face 😀 😄 🌞
🙏Namaste. This was so informative and fantastic omg. Beautiful !!!😍😍😍 and Allyson see that. " curry lover's " place I must visit there. Mos of all it took me back to my childhood days. Hi Barbara so happy to have you with us. Sending love and blessings to Tobago 🇹🇹 🙏🏻 ❤️. Wish you can visit it sometime.
That was an incredibly wonderful road trip for so many reasons. Delicious looking traditional style meals which had me salivating....lol. That ride through to Lopinot was a real history lesson. The beauty of nature and the wonderful landscape so captivating and invigorating for the mind and spirit. But, moreso the historical relics were so nostalgic in that it reminded me of my grandparents with the cocoa house and all that lush greenery. This was certainly a breathtaking trip. Thank you guys for taking us on that educational journey. Stay safe....🙏🙏❤❤

So nice!enjoying de vid!both of you having ah time!do enjoy whenever both of doing these vids!enjoying from south Trinidad!!!!
Hey Martin. So good to have you with us. I'm originally from deep south. Palo Seco. 😃
Is the Tourist Board promoting these places and arranging tours. When I visit Trinidad, I never get to see these places. You should start a tour company. They need to learn to promote the places that could be used for these kinds of tours. I remember going on a tour in the outskirts of the Puerto Vallarta area in Mexico and we were taken to a medium size back yard to see plants and fruit trees. They then cooked a snack meal outside with tacos, etc., and we ate. They even had a small souvenir shop. We continued to a forested area, did a walk through and then headed to a catered barbecue that they had on the beach. They combined those three places for that tour. I have been to so many in different countries where they do all sorts of interesting combinations. I think it is a sideline that you could think about. I am glad that they are going to invest some money to refurbish the place. I am really enjoying your videos. Love the family.
Hi guys. Lovely view’s and history. Love you guys, enjoy all your videos Keep it coming.👍🥰
My hometown. The area where you saw the cylinders, that ravine was once used by the villagers in Surrey to fetch water for cooking etc. Most of the residents used to go there to wash and bathe. At that time there were no pipe bourne water.
