Shocking but true: On the way from the farm to fork, more than half the food goes to waste. Most of it before it ever reaches consumers. For instance every other head of lettuce or potato.

Does food get "wasted", or is the "wasted food" sorted for its merits, where the lesser quality is too poor to eat (e.g. bruised, has worms, overripe, etc). Further to that, "wasted food" still has valuable nutrients in it, which can be hauled and made into green fertilizer to be spread on fields again.
