Starring: Colin Beavan, Michelle Conlin
Author Colin Beavan, in research for his new book, began the No Impact Project in November 2006. A newly self-proclaimed environmentalist who could no longer avoid pointing the finger at himself, Colin leaves behind his liberal complacency for a vow to make as little environmental impact as possible for one year. No more automated transportation, no more electricity, no more non-local food, no more material consumption no problem. That is, until his espresso-guzzling, retail-worshipping wife Michelle and their two year-old daughter are dragged into the fray. Laura Gabbert and Justin Scheins film provides a front row seat into the familial strains and strengthened bonds that result from Colins and Michelles struggle with this radical lifestyle change. - Фільми й анімація
Just watched the doc, and although I'm already vegan, shop at farmers markets and my local veg coop, buy in bulk, use reusable containers, recycle, switch out my light bulbs for more energy efficient versions, purchase as much organic as possible, have an urban garden, and so on, I must say, I still feel inspired to do more! Thanks to the entire family for being such a great inspiration!
Wow they both look much healthier towards the end! Their skin looks better, they've both lost lots of weight. Awesome! Fantastic that she avoided diabetes with more activity and healthier food! Just avoided decades of chronic illness. Good work No Impact Family!
Good for him! We have a similar guy in the UK, he lived for a year without money. He was a bit idealistic, but apparently the experiment was a success. I'm happy for him.
his last comment is sooo true, it makes me physically angry when people/shops wrap individual things in plastic, or cucumbers :(
yes a cucumber wrapped in plastic kinds pisses me off also. It's always the English cucumbers or the pickling cucumbers. Makes absolutely no sense at all.
+pierre g I was JUST about to say the same thing!
I've refused to buy so much shit because of the packaging
I watched this movie and I really loved it, it's hard to get back to basics when you're "spoiled" by technology
Can you tell me if they ate lacto-ovo-vegetarian or pure vegetarian i.e. no flesh, Egg or Dairy? The word 'vegetarian' by itself means different things to different people.
Very engaging movie. And its message, for those who are open to hearing it, is that when we live a more natural live with less consumption an a connection to the outdoors, we are actually happier. Most of us in the West never get a chance to find out what it feels like to be a homo sapiens in our
This video definitely made me cry. What an amazing project! My boyfriend and I have been working on doing a lot of these things... It's always encouraging to hear others' stories.
1:40 "This is what you call kicking Dad's ass."
LMFAO
I love watching documenturies so. This one looks pretty good. I know I couldn't handle going without electricity and tv...
Can't wait to see what habits I can adopt for myself and my family!
People call this crazy because they are insane. What could seem crazier to an insane person than sanity?
such a good comment! you bring the stuff to the point! :)
I just watched this at school .Very good at not trying to flip out . This helped me think at helping the environment.
Had to buy this after seeing it on Saterday morning.
I read the book. It definitely had no impact. I still do the same things and I'm happy about it. I already live a relatively minimalist life, so I produce very little waste (maybe a bag a month, to every 6 weeks). While I drive almost 100,000 miles a year (for work), personally, I don't do that much. (Most errands are done on the way to or from work.)
I still use things like A/C, and refuse to stop, because I need to sleep comfortably more-so than I need to impress climate freaks. I have a TV, but I stream content, because most network based TV is trash, but it's off most of the time.
If I was to put a finger on one thing I could improve, it's to have fewer parasytic draws from plugged in devices. They might only use a few milliwatts of power, but 24/7/365 - it can add up.
Yea, interesting point. But sometimes when someone does something extreme, maybe it could move us to make at least small changes to improve our lives and maybe there could be a ripple effect. We're going to see the next movie either way, right? :-)
Just saw this doc and wow! What an eye opener! A little extreme for me tho' (well, a lot extreme) but it does makes me realize I could do more to leave the earth in better shape. Just recycling, walking ocassionally, buying some local food and turning off lights doesn't cut it. I'm feeling very guilty for having just replaced my 15 yr old tube TV (which I rarely watch) with a new HD LCD...
I think this sounds so cool! Not sure if I could, but I might like to try! :) Thanks for posting this
funny how for me to watch this at a theatre, or even in my home, I must have an "impact." Eh...
While reading the book this is exactly how i imagined he sounded XD
anxious to see it, perhaps it will help change just ONE wasteful habit of everyone that does watch! Great job!
Loved the book. Inspired me a lot! Can't wait to see the movie.
this man and his familly are my heroes!
Does anyone know where I can watch the whole film ( no imact man)?
Anapao, you are contributing every hour of everyday. Did you throw something away today? Did you buy something you didnt really need in the last week? Are you on a computer right now? If we all stopped consuming so much crap it WOULD absolutly cause a reaction in the markets. The key is making this idea the manstream
Awe, that's a great idea! I encourage you to use phosphate-free soap as well because bath and washing water goes almost straight to our rivers, which increases algae production and destroys biodiversity.
I loved this book, but I didn't know there was a movie! Where can I find this movie?
Please tell me what it's called the song that starts from the minute 1:45?
I want to know too🥺🥺🥺
Are they still getting running water though? That has an impact...
@ThePOODLE12345
I'm really impressed by your comment. That you can just kind of take a step back and analyze your daily actions. Some ppl don't give it a second thought when they toss that bag they just got.
I tend to get so frustrated at people because I have this notion in my head that consumeristic wasting people are all brain washed who will be forever stuck in their ways. It's this terrible superior way of looking at them, I know.
And you sort of proved me wrong. Love it!
@mlschott its not about the impact its about the lifestyle. Finding ways to actually benefit outselves without making an unneeded impact. billions of clean water a day are getting contaminated as they go down the drain, unused, and into the sewer. its not about making no impact, its about making less impact and being happier and healthier. if watching the film shows you how much better life can be, then that is a positive impact.
Is anyone else here from HONY?
Yes
interesting concept....some things i could do in my own life would be to watch Less TV...take the stairs more, & re-cycle.
thanks!
What is that song at 1:45?
Dad's Dream #2. I'm currently trying to find it myself.
The difference is he's not eating $1,- hamburgers.
I live like this if you don't count my computer (energy sucking device) addiction.
this was an awesome movie I would recommend it!
Love the book
o em geez i know right?
kind of odd that he doesn't use his TV but makes a movie that we have to watch on ours. he won't be expending energy but he's going to cause thousands of people to expend their energy. i hope no one buys popcorn at the theater
this is great!
hi i am from argentina and my inglish teacher question me What's a no impact man? and i don't have idea can yoe help me?
super interesting!
I think this is a great idea but really wonder whether I could do it. The average american has an ecological footprint almost 4 times the global average and if all humans lived to our level it would take more than four earths to supply the resources. Hard choices are going to have to be made and maybe No Impact Man is leading the way.
It's not out yet.
What did they do on day 366?
+Michael Leo trip to donald's mate
This looks like Morgan Spurlock's 30 Days experiement....times 12.
He lives in manhatten, nobody needs a friggin car there.
@sugarplums86 maybe thats why its free on youtube...
HONY :)
ditto!
and this looks interesting, i think i'll watch it!
natural environment. Well, it feels much better than to be one in the artificial environment we've created. Perhaps we will become liberated from our technology through our technology. And perhaps we will have to find a way to curb our relentless creative drive.
here cos of lauren singer lol
Interesting.
Who can translate it in French for me ?
@drakoJinVI18 i am reading it too. it is an eye opening project...
This dude went to the extreme just to avoid using condoms...
Umm hey, if you need to do your laundry w/o electricity, the Best thing to use is a clean, sterilized (brand new is best of course) toilet plunger. Its better than feet (sigh) and better than a washboard, buttons and finery die on washboards.
I lived in an extremely rural area for a few yrs and bcs of that I can even pioneer a piece of land, no electricity or running water and go to bed clean as a whistle every night, even in the dead of winter.
@katieshealinggarden you should really read his book before you criticise him. He is much more happy with his life than he was. It's not that fact that we use technology. It's not about that. It's about a lifestyle change. He was seeing what it would be like to NOT use these things for a while so he could choose what actually benefits us as a human being. He is much happier and healthier and more social and has more SEX without making trash or importing food.

@Arrivinglate Thanks for trying, but it's no use to argue with trolls or people too stupid to present their arguments in a logical way.
To everyone saying No Impact Man should go move to the country and live on the land, he actually talks about that. Because so many people live in urban environments nowadays, his goal was SPECIFICALLY to see if he could succeed in the city :] City dwellers make a HUGE impact by numbers alone. If they can't learn to reduce their ecological imprints, yikes!
lets all go hug trees :)
Looks like a wonderful movie! I want to see it. For our family it would be No Impact Woman. I am GREEN my husband is BLACK. What is bigmovies4free?
@NickiSwims try to find a torrent
Great movie. Lol to the person who says the earth dies. We die when we screw up our living environment (food, water, air, weather) not to mention the rest of the animals on this earth. The earth lives on with or without us, and hopefully some plants might make it too, maybe some cockroaches :p
what IF the entire world did this just ONE day hmmmmm
@byungchan123 Then basically human progress would fall back about one and a half day...
Hashtags a lame!
@LilMissNature i do. =/
water
oh my. what does he use instead of toilet paper? O,O
I bet they don't live like that now. It wasn't meant to be long term, and if it was they set themselves up to fail.
"Maestro" is partly right:
some "Whites" tend to discover "alternative" behaviours as a "BRAND new" life style mode, not all but certains, .. we have to sympathize with the poorer people and notto be angry about critics, ..?! Solidarity!?
@bigal20241 u too, dam I got a lot of fans !!!
Think think think !!
@Vixlacimaa Got to love the internet trolls.
I think it's neat that he is trying so hard to conserve and not make an impact...however...I think it's impossible to do and there will be bazillions of people who don't care no matter what you say and they will be enjoying technology til the end and he will be struggling all his life to make a difference. Catch 22.....It's like war......you fight, you lose...you don't fight you lose.....sad
Coucou Mme Tran
It was a sneaky way to put his wife on a diet and make a few bucks.
Let's see... He is writing a book, and all his "No Impact Man" stunt is filmed, i saw people do way worse then this to sell things. If he was really the real no impact man, he would had done it and a filmmaker, journalist or TV crew would had discover him.
But no, he is a writer and he is basically doing a stunt for a year, so there after he will be popular, and people will love him, and he will spend jetfuel all year long to go to the seminar and talk, he would become the super impact man.
Чекнутый
Lol its fucking funny to read all the negative comments wich attempt to denigrate this documentary and/or the family involved into this.
Do something great instead trying to sell your own shit, wich we dont need or even want.
I will do something great. Thanks to all the people who shines with an exemplary behavior :D
o cara nao limpa a bunda, q nojo
the wife pisses me off , there daughter has more self control and maturity then her .
Poor people want to be like the White priviledged,so it is the all system whose concerned, you completely missed the point!!
Yea African/Asian poor maybe ... not American / Western poor... still wasteful because of the environment.... its systemic and inherit in society, not class based
And smell like dirty stinky tree bark? No thanks. Take advantage of what our ancestors set up for us. We walked out of caves and have modern technologies but I'm all for choice, I made mine. *turns on A/C, X-Box360, Charges Cell phone*
too bad he's being documented, causing electricity to be used by cameras, microphones, etc.
FAIL
made million by doing this publicity stunt i reckon.its a not a good message.
Everything dies including the earth someday so why t make your life difficult trying to prevent the inevitable.
whatever
Only pretentious wankers buy those. :D
this guy went too far -plain and simple. He was better off becoming an Amish
This s stupid! Don't get me wrong, it's great what they are doing and we should all do so as well..However, Society is too far gone! It's all down hill from here. It's impossible to save the planet now, it makes me angry and sad with no right because I don't contribute shit! like many of u on here! This is just another hunger for publicity. I know they r trying to show that man can live a year without doing too much harm, but if they would have kept living like this 4ever, it's another story!
this is obnoxious.
