  • Is it time for another scrap challenge? I have all these leftover scraps from my #100days100blocks quilt. Since I need a quilt back, I am going to sew as much as possible together to make a big scrappy afterquilt. One problem - I’m leaving the country & the clock is ticking!

It was just a few years ago that the local long armers near me all said we could not have after quilts because they were too difficult to needle thru that many layers, so disappointing. So I gave up. Then thanks to you I decided to ask my new long arm quilter if she could do it. She said "of course, this is not hand quilting, these machines are made for that". I was so excited. If not for you Karen I would never have asked. A delayed joy of after quilts has been awakened. Thank you.

The first time I made a back using up pieces left over from the front, my friends sort of sniffed like I was a cheapskate. I’m so happy to see you legitimizing this creative but thrifty habit.

Karen, your quilt is absolutely stunning! I love these colours, and the judicious use of solids in strategic locations really show off all of your piecing work. I’ve not been a fan of ‘sampler’ quilts before, but your modern layout and fabulous afterquilt has me doing a 180 on that opinion. Congratulations on your finish!

I just guess I'm trying to say that your videos and chats are so refreshing and fun and I've learned so much along the way. I particularly enjoyed participating in the sewing room cleanout challenge at the beginning of the year and now you've given so many cool ideas for all of the scraps acquired during a project. Beautiful, but piecing back overwhelmed me, however. It’s a treasure for sure.

Gosh! I like the back as much as the front! Great advice. Thanks for all the videos!

The colorway here is beautiful. I can really see you have an eye for bold colors that aren't too much or too monotone! I save a lot of scraps for really wild and chaotic crumb quilts but I might try to do some blocks at the end of each project in more coordinating fabrics and accumulate them over time into a bonus quilt. We love weird/wild quilts in our home. Not what the customers get but they are the most loved around here!

And FYI I just love a plain solid or lightly textured backing because you don't have to choose between the benefits of a pieced and wholecloth quilt. One side shows the piecing and the other side features the quilting! I always want to do wholecloth but that requires a level of self restraint LOL.

What a beautiful quilt both front and back. I love how methodical you are and how resourceful. I, too, have started doing after quilts. It seems less wasteful, saves money, and keeps my mount scrapmore at a doable amount. Thanks you for sharing all of your time and talents with us Karen. I want you to know how much I appreciate you. 😊

Beautiful! I just love both the front and the backing! I sometimes struggle with making scrappy backings and you have given me great ideas for future backings. Thank you so much, Karen!

Great video and perfect timing Karen. I put the borders with cornerstones on my 100 days 100 blocks quilt top yesterday. Yes this year's. I had to finish up quickly to get organised for the upcoming wedding of my youngest son.
I love your quilt and beautiful colour scheme and your first layout. I intend to piece my backing as I have all those beautiful Tula prints leftover too . Your great tips will certainly help in the process when I have more time. Thanks Julie .Sydney Australia ♥️🇦🇺

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. You have made a beautiful quilt on both sides. I really love a double sided quilt, when so much work goes into making a quilt top it is worth making it reversible. Thank you for sharing.

And I love the idea of using them as is without cutting other than straightening the edges.
