Awesome video and history on GoldField. My wife and I look forward to all your videos, and look forward to the next. This area has always interested us, looking forward to learning more before we visit it the fall. Safe travels!
Very good video. I live in Goldfield, you came up with some photos I haven't seen. I always pictured the Side Board running parallel with Main. Nice job!
Hey, thanks for sharing. Been through there many times myself. Even considered moving there and opening up an assay office. Getting to old now. Kind of set in my ways. So many towns lost to fire back then. A match carelessly tossed, a lamp left burning, even an ember that escaped from the woodstove have taken there toll on many of them. Would be a fun place to explore for a month🙂
There were several fires during Goldfield’s early days however the most devastating fire was July 1923 believed to be started by an explosion of a liquor still at a residence
Great video. Thanks for taking us along. I've got a spitoon from the goldfield hotel. Doubt it's a original. I read that they were going to revive the hotel in the 80's but never did and had a bunch of spitoons made for it but they were sold
Thanks for the kind words. I think the hotel has been under several different ownerships and each of them have tried to restore it. I am sure it is a very expensive endeavor.
Thanks Dan, I've driven through there many times never knowing it's history. I will definitely stop next time through to view some of which you talked about.
Passed theough there about 10 years ago. Me and my husband and two girls love old towns. We pulled in and drove around looking at all the old buildings. We stopped at the old highschool and looked around when some nice people invited us in. They took us on a tour and explained how they were renovating the school. It was so beautiful. We stayed for a bit and they told us the history of the town. Very nice people.
Great story. I have family in Northern NV and I have passed through this town several times without stopping. I am so glad I finally made the effort to spend time there. Great history.
My Grandmother lived in Goldfield with her father, a doctor, after the SF earthquake. She recalled seeing Diamond Lil at a bar as she peeked in and all the prostitutes waiting for custmers in front of their cribs. She said to get to Goldfield one had to take the stage coach - from Reno? She was 10 years old when she arrived and stayed until 14. Your presentation is much appreciated and i could see her at the places you mention.
Ha! I don't get near ghosts although my moniker suggests ghosts, I steer away from all evidence of ghosts. Thanks for watching the video. I have heard that the hotel is haunted, and some paranormal folks visit specifically for that purpose. Not me!
passed through in 1994 while transporting rvs. never knew the history. thankyou!!!!
They filmed part of the Movie Vanishing point there. The part of the DJ who was broadcasting info to Kowalski was filmed in the Goldfield Hotel
My favorite place!

Yes, fire has destroyed many buildings in these old towns. What an unfortunate event.

@@GhostTownWonders My sister and I are curious as to what started the fire?
@@daniell6317 it is said that an alcohol still exploded in a private residence downtown
@@GhostTownWonders wow. Thanks. Just think how the town would be today if that didn't happen. Sad situation.
@@daniell6317 in 1923 most of the town was empty and people had moved on. Nobody left to fight the fire.
Another excellent video with a very well done presentation of the town's history. Thanks again Dan.
Thanks Brian. Glad you enjoyed the video
