does give the wheel a completely different feel and if you dont use the buttons much, definitely worth it
With the whole problem of the Handbrake, I would recommend just clutch kicking. It feels a lot better.
you can only do that up to a certain speed and if you car has enough power for it. but its all good now. since then ive rigged up an actual handbrake for it ahaha

U can’t rlly clutch kick if ur going up downhill because ur have to much speed
I have a deep dish wheel coming and the adapter for my set up got a handbrake aswell but I haven’t wired it up yet waiting till the new wheel comes cheers for sharing this pal it’s helped me out :)

no one ever plays with the in car cam on consoles. I find that really weird. Why buy a wheel if your just going to play in 3rd person.
because its easier to drift? and its a game? If I want interior view all the time, I'd just go drive my actual car. I've done a whole series with the interior/bumper view. It's just not as fun personally, for me to play the game like that. Maybe if I was racing in forza Motorsport then might consider it

yeh it would, the only thing it doesnt really work for is if youre doing rally or drifting. it makes using the handbrake real annoying

Nice vid! I want to put a real driving wheel on this base with a rather long shaft extension. I do not need those buttons. Do you think one can leave those out and just mount the wheel onto the base?
you sure can, if you pull the connection through you can just mount that button box next to it so you still have things for menu navigation

Interesting mod. I want to do this with my G920 too, but I want a quick change setup for the wheel. I have the "squeak", so I was going to return mine, but since many people have this and said re-oiling the motors fixes this...and I plan to mod. I guess I'll just keep the wheel. Now... to actually remove all the buttons from the wheel and turn that into a "button box" would be ideal.
yeh, haven't got the squeak. I've wanted to do a custom panel. but problem is then you loose the shifters and that means anything with 7+ gears is out of the question aha.
Ive gotten the squeak so many times, to the left or right. Gotten it 4 times in the year ive owned it. Wanna know how it went away? Using it. I only got the squeak when i was away from gaming for a week or two at a time

Curious on an update. Has this had any adverse effects on your wheel base? Overheating the motors?
nah no problems. quiet the myth i think. because, the size of the wheel doesn't effect much except how strong you feel the force feedback. you wont overheat the motors though because when you think about it, theyre fighter your weight you put on it anyway. if that makes sense??

Do you find with the 350mm rim, that the steering is a bit less tight than with the standard rim? I'm thinking of going up to a 300mm rim with my G27, and I've heard a few people say it makes the steering different/sloppier/whatever. I mostly play Rally and A.C, just wondered how you found it.
yeh, just because you have a bit more leverage over the motors inside the wheel, the effect of the force feedback doesn't feel as strong.

How come my adapter. I put my wheel on and after a day my steering wheel keeps loosening and I took it off and noticed the adapter screw holes for the custom steering wheel are stripped? They can just slide in and back out.

yeh, had this one for a while but really only use it for the second channel. just because the video files are big as f*ck aha. But will be using it for the build videos on here as well now but stick to the action cam for the wheel cam

Did you have any issues with the d pad being very sensitive? Click it left once and it'll go 2 or 3 slots leff
could be a jammed button. had to remove and refit a few times to get it seated right
subway my man, with that adaptor the original bolts only have about 7mm of thread which goes into the base.. i did my wheel swap today, i bought some double length so they stick into the base as much as they did without the mods.
didnt yours come with the longer bolts?? i think i need to rewatch the video ahaha. i forget what even comes in half of these

Does the stock wheel work if you take off the circuit board for all the buttons
i believe so, you'll just need to have your controller handy to go through the menus. also wont have paddles either
for the handbrake i just use a flight stick and map it to handbrake and set it next to me works perfectly

Is there a way to change the buttons behind the wheel to a control box mounted at the side? With the hydrolic handbreak mod would be sick.
Have seen people do it. I probably wont because I still use the paddles sometimes as well. And definitely need them if you drive a car with 7+ gears

yeh still going no problems. changing the wheel does nothing to the motors. because no matter what wheel is on it, it still has to fight you holding the wheel anyway. make sense??

well the adaptor is specifically made for the wheel. and then aftermarket wheels are pretty much all the same bolt pattern

centre hole doesnt matter. its the bolt pater that does but they're all a pretty standard fit

How much does your wheel weigh and will there be any problem if I put a wheel that weighs around 2.4 pound will the motor strain or something please let me know and did you have any problem till now
haven't had any issues and running an even heavier wheel now. because really, your holding that wheel and fighting those motors anyway. wheel weight doesnt really mean to much

yeh, just because physics is a thing you definitely don't feel it as much but can't complain, not overly fussed about it to be honest

if you get a deep one, you will need "deep dish" paddles to reach. theres loads of people selling them but these ive found to be the cheapest - ebay.us/UXhFCR
flat one is do-able with stock paddles but definitely easier with longer ones, the ae the only two options i can find for extended paddles for flat wheels,

TruX I have steel to weld up a new one. But sticking with the wood first to experiment with things and then after ive tried it all with wood and got it just right. Do a final build with it in metal. Just becaise its a little eaiser the change things around woth wood. Where as metal, well, once its welded, it gets messy pulling it apart all the time to change it up

uh, not really as it becomes pretty hard to hit the handbrake, which is why i've since done a handbrake build

weight doesnt effect it. because it has to fight against you holding it anyway.

Hi I’m just wondering what your settings are for the wheel please
kinda go all over the place hey. but main ones are rotation is 660 i think. centre spring scale about 90% up. and force feed back is 100% (only because im running a bigger wheel. stock wheel maybe go to 70-80%)

whydont you try manual w/o clutch and reprogram the clutch pedal for handbrake, that way its seperate to standard brake, and you till use sequential or h shifter for gears :)
yeh nah, i like using my clutch aha. i've already done a handbrake for it which made it way easier

You can use a regular controller for the menus, but idk if having the buttons disconnected causes problems or not .

I'd argue the original drive mechanism isn't designed for that "leverage." Could wear out the gears faster
Exactly.. Which is why I want to increase the stock diameter but not crazy so that self steering isn't drastically slower and wearing issues.
you wont get any 'wearing issues' because when you think about it... it fights the force of you holding it anyway. the extra 400g of a different wheel isnt going to do anything. it might just react slower for something like drifting when you go to throw it

as long as the bolt pattern fits then yeah. and don't see why it would be a different pattern either.
