Trenton's face when tasting that rye one for the first time😂😂. I was surprised he came around on it by the initial reaction. Another great video gentlemen!!
Guys I love this mix review setup. Really mixes it up for me to consider bottles I may not have, or have not tried.
Love this show! Please do more like it! Very well done u 2! Best bourbon channel period
Great video. Thanks again for the content. Will be looking to see if I can find some of these out in my neck of the woods.
another great video guys! new to whiskey/bourbon and really enjoying your videos. love your interactions and your individual take on everything. Trenton's descriptions are hilarious and great!
Great video. I felt the same about 2x0. Good but not for the price. On the lookout for the Bernheim. Thanks
Of the 4 I have only had the 2XO Innkeeper's Blend, and I must say it is so good. Extremely similar to The Phoenix Blend but much richer and bolder in both the nose and taste to me.
Keep doing what you do 👍 Always like both your inputs 🥃 Cheers
Thanks Tom!
I love the regular Bernheim so I'll be on the lookout for this...undoubtedly will be allocated just like most Heaven Hill stuff in my area...nice job guys!
Good stuff Guys! Haven't seen hide nor hare of 3 of those, but might be able to pick up the Bernheim to try. After my Larceny experience, I need to get back on the "wheated horse"...
SLB Classics
3:01 Great “Blue Moon” beer pun by Kurt that went unnoticed
3:19 Kurt cannot see small print
3:47 Trenton claims he has the best tasting notes
4:38 Kurt “for me, personally”
6:31 Trenton shows off his math skills
14:28 Kurt doing his homework
Nicely done.
I wonder if it was noticed by Kurt
@@MrKeppie1 I had really hoped so. But I guess not
Of course I notice @Jordan! Might take me a bit to catch up but I look forward to these every video! Hilarious
Love you guys. You two remind me of my Dad and I and your mom is the best she’s the voice of every woman with how we spend so much money on whiskey. And tell your Dad that he’s right on every whiskey especially Wild Turkey Rare Breed.
The 2XO is a high rye and lowish rye mix so you do pick up that rye spice. I haven't dug into mine too much yet but I was very pleased with the bourbon . I do tend to like a lot of oak in bourbon.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Bernheim Barrel Proof. (I actually got it for the small batch price of $34.99 by mistake) I really like the Innskeeper Blend much more than the 2X0 Phoenix Blend, but hard to pay the $99. 🥃
Another great video thanks
I didn’t recognize the new bottle and label at first. Old Potrero rye is one of my favorites. It’s a very unique flavor profile that I really enjoy. I always have a bottle on my shelf. It used to be produced by the Anchor Brewing (and distilling) Company in San Francisco but has since been sold and now I don’t know who produces it hence the new bottle and label I suppose.
Great video, love to see you do some more small brands. TonyB
I still half a bottle of Boilermaker #6, it got pushed to the back of my cabinet. I'll pull it out and have a drink tonight after watching you guys try it.
Didn’t want the Bernheim on allocation day at ABC store. Only bottle remaining on table 1 so I took a chance. Will definitely buy again. Wonderful surprise for me.
I was happy to see y'all reviewing the Inn Keepers blend. I was hoping to come across it, but after hearing what y'all had to say about it, not so much anymore.
Personal opinion. Make sure to get more than ours before a decision.
@@slbdrinks I agree, but from experience, if you guys don't like it, I generally do not either!
Liked the show! Not seeing these in Iowa, but really curious about the Bernheim.
That innkeepers blend seems interesting but at $100, it's a tough buy not knowing if I will love it. Thanks for the reviews of lesser known whiskeys!
I need to find that Bernheim, really want to add this to collection.
Bernheim is one of my favorites, great taste at a very good price!
I have yet to try a wheated bourbon. I think I will see if I can find Bernheim at one of my local liquor stores.
Thanks for the multiple reviews! I have been staring at that 2XO for a few weeks trying to figure out if I should buy it!
Cheers 🥃
It’s a tough call buddy. I liked it, but did I like it 100.00’s worth lol
@SLB Drinks I am trying to remember if you guys have had Found North. Just had bartch 005 and it blew my mind. If I can find whiskeys like that for $100... sign me up all day!
I found one in Chicago but cannot remember the batch # unfortunately.
They just sent us 4 more bottles so really looking forward to that video!
Love me some Bernheim. It’s a little hard to find sometime. But I love it
I would love to hear your feedback on Blade and Bow. I simply love it and the price tag is perfect
The Innkeepers wasn't available in NorCal until 2 weeks ago, so don't feel too bad about your release dates there.
Pretty rough for you to.
Loved the video guys. Wish I could find that Bernheim here in Rhode Island. I can find the Small Batch but not the Barrel Proof. Regarding the 2XO, I'm wondering how you think it stacks up to the WR Double Oaked? I know it's 10+ proof points higher than WRDO, but curious to know which one you'd pick between the two.
WRDO easily for me. Of course that’s my opinion
@@slbdrinks Thanks. I thought that might be the case. WRDO is a great value for money.
I had a chance to bottle my own Bernheim Original - Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey Barrel Proof during my Heaven Hill distillery tour in October 2022. It does have a bread/yeast taste. I paid $90. I would not buy the bottle again at that price. If I could get it at
Putting these on the radar. I saw the Bernheim and passed on it. Guess if I can find it again I’ll pick it up.
As I play Golf on a couple of courses which were landfills, I get what Trenton said!
Really appreciate watching the SLB, your tastes tend to align with mine. I usually categorize my tastes relative to cost a bit more than you do, and I suspect I won’t see any of these up here in Canada. I tend to be really uncritical of bottles under $35 (US$), they can end up being mixed drink stuff. The next group seems to be up to $70, and they should be twice as good as the lower group, and worthy of sharing with friends on a whiskey tasting night. Above that, I better see great reviews, and it better be spectacular in so many ways. I average maybe 2 ounces a week of straight ‘appreciating it’ whiskey, so a bottle could be on my shelf for a good long time. As somebody wiser than I said (and don’t ask me who)…life is too short to drink lousy whiskey (but I will add ‘with so many distillers making great product).
Thanks Bill!
The Bardstown KBS is absolutely amazing. Lol. Now I'm wondering if I should start going in the OPPOSITE direction of yalls recommendations. 😅 And I never got a "beer" note in the KBS as much as just a sweetness. But, the bourbon world wrote the book on subjectivity!
I have never had a liking for beer finished bourbons. It’s kind of like Guy Fieri not liking eggs lol.
I was extremely hesitant about purchasing the Bernheim because I’d never tried a wheat whiskey. I finally decided to pick it up and was also pleasantly surprised.
I was talked into it in Myrtle Beach. $28 very nice.
never had maker's mark?
@@drewgibson3319 of course, but maker’s is a wheated bourbon where this is a wheat whiskey. 51% wheat in the mash bill
@@jamesstreet1144 ahh good point
Larceny is a steal!!! Wheated
Inn keepers blend is delicious!!
Love the 2XO innkeeper and the Phoenix, passed on the bernheim not a big wheat whisky guy
another great video! How many bottles does you guys have?
To many!
@@slbdrinks My wife thinks I have to many and I have only 15 😂😂
Trent's favorite whiskey notes are pencil shavings and markers, lol!😅
Great show as always. Are the bottles 40 oz ( 1.14 litres)?Just wondering because of the pricing.
Unfortunately no, all 750 ml.
Hi Kurt & Trenton, I love your show and base my purchases on your guys tasting notes. Everything that you guys suggested is outstanding! Just out of curiosity, how many bottles do you guys have in your collection's. All the best Rick
Hard question Rick seeing I do not keep a running count. Including other spirits, mixers, liqueurs, amaros, whiskey, etc I would have to say close to 1k.
Not sure how many Trent has lol
I agree with the "other" Rick on all points. Kurt and Trent have rarely steered me wrong, and only where personal preferences differ. Have recommended SLB Basement Bar to any new Bourbon drinker I run into, ESPECIALLY for their videos on underrated, available, and value-priced Bourbons.
Totally agree with Trenton's price he would pay for the 2X0 bottle. $99 is too much to pay for a bottle from an undisclosed source and has no age statement. Sure it might taste good, but I don't see it being $99 good. I would look at the Oak Collection from Pursuit Spirits as an alternative at $75.
Trent "idk I can't math good" 😂 put it on a shirt!
😂
The Innskeeper is fantastic
Glad you like it!
Have you guys tried the Sugarhouse Rye? It's my favorite of theirs and not really close.
Have not but sounds good!
After the release of the Bernheim BP, I read it will be a two part release this year.
Nice!
The bernheim is just okay for me, very bland but it’s pretty inexpensive so that’s the trade off I guess 😂
Trenton breaking out the SAT words for this video...mascerated, my man!
😂
Innkeeper’s Blend just hit MI last week. Are barrel char levels standardized across distilleries/cooperages?
No the distillery can choose a certain level.
Informative per usual. I do have one question though. I've seen most of your videos, and I can't recall if you guys have said why you don't have water around to try the whiskeys at slightly different strengths (particularly the barrel proofs). A lot of the new barrel proof offerings have so much heat it gets in the way of the experience...unless you're just looking for the burn/Kentucky hug. I mean with scotch it is very unusual to not at least add a couple drops of water to it (to "open it up", etc.). Anyway, just wondering.
Good question. I have thought about it but unless doing a single bottle review it’s a time factor. We should think about doing that though non lesser time sensitive shows.
Ralfy almost always adds water, sometimes without tasting it neat first. I always thought that was a little odd. But to each their own.
@@tweezerjam I think Ralfy has always tried it neat, but you're right, sometimes he goes to the water quickly. I think because he's working off his notes often, and he knows from prior experience it "needs" water.
@@ikiruyamamoto1050 ralfys accent and rants crack me up. He’s a gem😂
Curious to try the Bernheim but not at cask strength 😂😂😂
Definitely worth buying. Add few drop of water if too high proof for you. You shouldn’t be disappointed. Has really good flavors.
Nice shout out to my hometown Seymour
I request a comparison on the 2023 Jack Daniel’s BPSB Rye against the 2020 release you love. I would like your opinion on how the supposed shelfer holds up.
Need to get that 2023 than would love to do that video!
@@slbdrinksit flys off the shelf at Binny’s. Two rounds of deliveries over the last few weeks.
Can you do a review on Devils River Agave Bourbon? I ask because on Total Wine reviews it shows every review (9) all gave it 5 stars. It’s only $20 but is it trash? They also have a standard barrel strength bourbon that has a 4.9 rating?
Never heard of that. Agave Bourbon??
Interesting!
Good one...Johnnie Walker review
If u guys are in Indiana, should do a starlight episode
We should. Need to collect a few more bottles.
Have you guys tried redwood empire yet? They make some good stuff!
Yes, very good!
Is the Boilermaker Series available anywhere in Indiana? My wife and I are big Purdue fans and I would love to surprise her with a bottle?
Unfortunately I am not sure. This one was sent to me. My daughter graduated from Purdue.
@@slbdrinks Smart girl 😁
Hooten Young whiskey, please review them.
Old Potrero's 100% Malted Rye releases are just a totally different experience than your classic rye whiskey. I recently got a bottle of their Single Barrel, Barrel Proof 9-year Malted Rye and I didn't know what to expect. I'm with Trenton - I got an earthy / compost-like experience at first, but it did mellow out to reveal more chocolatey flavors.
I have seen and passed on the 2xO releases as they are kinda pricey for NAS double-oaked products. As for the Bernheim - the bready-ness is off-putting for me in whiskey.
That 9 yr old bp Portrero sounds delicious
So Kurt, which whiskies do you not like other than Bardstown because of too much beer influence? I honestly like beer more that whiskey so I'd probably like them!
You would! I am just not a beer fan that’s all. All other whiskies 👍 lol
2XO is a keeper. Love both releases. However, at $100 Msrp, unfortunately I just can’t support buying it.
May have been already commented, but the Bernheim is going to be 2 releases per year. 02 and 08.
Thanks for the info!
NY gets stuff really late. It's always tough when I want to review something, because it may have been done like 20 times already. Lol
Have you ever tried Ole Soul out of Jackson MS
I have not yet
"Not a fan of beer." Gaaaahhh!!
I know! I have tried…
Innkeeper was good for me
Let’s go!!!!!
Your #1!
Is Blanton whiskey good?
I think it is pretty good for the msrp price of about 70.00. 2-300.00 or crazy prices like that? No way
I Agee with you, Kurt, on the KBS. It's definitely a pass.
Great content...It looks like inflation has hit the bourbon market 65-100 dollars is a little steep and I know its all relative to how much money you make... that you are willing to pay...just saying
So has the hype train
Stick to your budget. Plenty of good stuff in all price ranges.
@@slbdrinks I was at Miejers two days ago in Kokomo Russell’s 10 yrs was 32.99 now it’s 41.99
Shoutout to Sugarhouse brewing in Salt Lake
I wonder what a few drops of water would do for that Bernheim?
I need to try that! It has the body and richness to stand up to water and just may enhance the experience
@@slbdrinks Try adding the water and let it sit for 20 minutes. I bet that will be great. I'm intrigued with this bottle. Let me know if you try it. Thanks.
nice video
Old Petrero, The "Retsina" ( Greek Pine Finishes Wine) of Rye Whiskey! Opah!
Wow that sounds fantastic!
Landfillish - lol... When will we see Rebecca and Michelle?
That might take some major bribery lol
Was in a store the other day and the owner offered me the 2xo for $100....contemplated it temporarily and then passed
The Bernheim is only twice a year. Next is 823
Thanks for the heads up!
Does the Boilermaker whiskey look like it is going to be winner, performs well early, and then fails against less well regarded competitors?
I thought it exceeded expectations. Mine anyways
@@slbdrinks I am just having a little go at making fun of Purdue Basketball. Go Hoosiers! I would still be happy to try it in-spite of its name.
Ahhhh ok 😂
Landfillish 😂
Second?!?!?!?!?===============>Silver all day!!!
Not bad Tim!!
“If you ain’t first, you’re last”
Ha!
You can always tell that a guy works with his hands by the way he talks! But Kurt, who doesn't like a cold beer on a hot sunny day or at a family BBQ, ballgame, or around the campfire while swatting mosquitoes?! My roots are in beer and I'm pretty green when it comes to bourbon but I don't think I'll ever sway too far from a cold brew, even as I stumble my way through my newfound love of bourbon. Be well, guys...good show!
You would get along well with my brother lol
Bernheim is nasty
I am also new to Serious Bourbon tastes , I have
WT 101,BNB. Maker’s Mark, and E Graig. Small Batch, George Dickel Am I on the right track ? Advice will be appreciated.
Try Knob Creek 9yr, Coopers Craft 100, Early Times BIB, Russell’s 10yr, any Old Forester or Redwood Empire. Hope that helps and Cheers.
@@Russ_L Thanks I will try those this week. I really enjoy your streams.. You and your Son Trent make me feel as I am on a barstool with you.. Just great content..Again Thank You.
@@CorvetteBill364 Haha!! I’m not Trenton’s dad, just a fan like you. Have a good one!
You def have a good start! Russ’ suggestions are spot on!
