Hey Khoa! To me, price and allocation (time to find the bottle) are a big factor as it doesn't matter how good it is if you can't find it or it's too expensive (i.e. George T. Stagg, etc.). There are too many good bourbons out there to waste money and time hunting down these unicorns! (but I do hunt as well, so.... maybe I'm the problem, LOL). Just found your channel, enjoyed the review. I'm probably the odd one here, I found my 2XO AO while on vacation and really liked it. I prefer it to my Eagle Rare. I enjoy double-oaked bourbons quite a lot. Woodford DO and OF 1910 are my go to sippers and this AO is right up there with them.

Also the fact it's about the same cost now and more readily available, it makes it a nice alternative for it. Good analysis, sir. Can you believe i found it for $20?! It's a surprisingly great sipper. I would compare it to Eagle Rare, right up there., can put up a good fight. Definitely a by at $50. IMHO.

That is such a great review! I have yet to buy a 2XO, but now that they have a lower priced offering I’m pretty sure I’ll grab one when they hit my area. However, I am LOYAL to the first bottle that I found that I really enjoyed and keep going back to, Eagle Rare! It is going to be hard for me to displace this one as I get it for about $38 after tax. Been on the fence about 2xo from the beginning. All 3 sits on shelves around here. Debuting at 100$ is a little high for my taste. So much good stuff below that price point even for double oaked style. #loyal

It's becoming easier to find . I found it at a grocery store for $45 . Eagle rare is much richer and more viscous. I will say comparing a neck pour to a almost empty bottle is not preferred. 🥃 Cheers.
I agree on the neck pour vs almost empty bottle, but I do go through my bottles more quickly than others (friends, samples, etc.) so hopefully the whiskey didn't change much. Also, I wanted to do the comparison but didn't want to buy another Eagle Rare 🤣🤣🤣. But you're right, Eagle Rare is better but the 2XO isn't so bad if you can't find an Eagle Rare. I think allocations are improving for this. My local store got this in and they have it for $46 vs Total Wine’s $43. What stinks for me is my local just put in a new loyalty program. I have to spend $500 to be allowed to buy Eagle Rare at $55. No exceptions. So no comparisons anytime soon.

@@WhiskeyBank I spoke to the owner about his take on the loyalty program. He said TW can get ER and sell for $41-$43 in our area because they're the Home Depot of liquor. He had to take on a lot of bottles to get ER so his retail price is $55. Some stores sell ER by us for $99. He then showed me the big amount of meh Scotch he had to get to just get the few allocated bottles he got so I guess I can understand why. I told him I'll get to $500 eventually.
@@TheReal_DeanD Hey Dean! The supply and demand will always set the pricing in your area, but my comment was based on the fact that you had to use loyalty points AND pay $55 for the bottle. I understand the stores needing to buy so many other bottles to get the eagle rare and blanton's, but usually when you use loyalty points, they will sell it at MSRP or slightly above it. I would understand if it was $55 just on the shelf with no need to use any points. Maybe there is much more demand in your area than mine for an Eagle Rare and $55 is a deal. At least you have the relationship to ask these questions with the owner and the owner being honest with you is also fantastic!

Don’t think it’s in the ER category so far because it lacked that fruity quality. Nice review David. For me, each 2XO blends got better. The Phoenix blend was meh and not worth $100. The Innskeeper Blend was more complex and pretty good. I thought the Tribute Blend was fantastic. I agree with you, if you can find a Eagle Rare at MSRP or below the 2XO price, buy the Eagle Rare all day~ but most of us normal people (LOL) can't find Eagle Rare at $35 on a regular basis so I was happy this was comparable and similar. If and when Eagle Rare becomes an "always on the shelf" bourbon again, 2XO will need to either step up their game or lower the price. It pains me to be the lone naysayer but I don’t enjoy this bottle at all. My aversion to corn forward flavors hit me hard with this one. For me, it doesn’t come close to Eagle Rare. Ben Holladay, Bardstown Origin, Remus store picks, BT store picks are all better to me (understanding that some are significantly more expensive than this bottle).
I can see how you get those notes as when I say the "young oak", those can certainly be a turnoff and come out as "grainy" or corn forward. Eagle Rare is a great bottle and hard to beat, but also hard to find so I was glad it was "similar", but definitely the Eagle Rare is better. The other bottles you choose are fantastic!! The Bardstown Origin Bottled in Bond is one of my favorites this years, especially at $50. Thank you so much for your view and comment! Hey Khoa! To me, price and allocation (time to find the bottle) are a big factor as it doesn't matter how good it is if you can't find it or it's too expensive (i.e. George T. Stagg, etc.). There are too many good bourbons out there to waste money and time hunting down these unicorns! (but I do hunt as well, so.... maybe I'm the problem, LOL). Another great review. I'm learning more from your content per minute than any of the biggest-name tubers. Those little images of vanilla, charred wood, fresh lumber you weave into the conversation are so impactful. Just found your channel, enjoyed the review. I'm probably the odd one here, I found my 2XO AO while on vacation and really liked it. I prefer it to my Eagle Rare. I enjoy double-oaked bourbons quite a lot. Woodford DO and OF 1910 are my go to sippers and this AO is right up there with them.
Hey Bumpandrun! You're not the odd one here as many people do enjoy this one, as much as or even more than the Eagle rare. Also the fact it's about the same cost now and more readily available, it makes it a nice alternative for it.
I'm all for bourbons like this that give some of these allocated bottles a run for their money as hopefully this will create enough competition to bring all prices down and the secondary markets to go away 😆 (one can dream).

That is such a great review! I have yet to buy a 2XO, but now that they have a lower priced offering I’m pretty sure I’ll grab one when they hit my area.
However, I am LOYAL to the first bottle that I found that I really enjoyed and keep going back to, Eagle Rare! It is going to be hard for me to displace this one as I get it for about $38 after tax. But I’m glad you did a comparison of them as that probably helps me understand what that 2XO pour would be like.

Been on the fence about 2xo from the beginning. All 3 sits on shelves around here. Debuting at 100$ is a little high for my taste. So much good stuff below that price point even for double oaked style. #loyal

It's becoming easier to find . I found it at a grocery store for $45 . Eagle rare is much richer and more viscous. I will say comparing a neck pour to a almost empty bottle is not preferred. 🥃 Cheers.
I agree on the neck pour vs almost empty bottle, but I do go through my bottles more quickly than others (friends, samples, etc.) so hopefully the whiskey didn't change much. Also, I wanted to do the comparison but didn't want to buy another Eagle Rare 🤣🤣🤣. But you're right, Eagle Rare is better but the 2XO isn't so bad if you can't find an Eagle Rare.

I think allocations are improving for this. My local store got this in and they have it for $46 vs Total Wine’s $43. What stinks for me is my local just put in a new loyalty program. I have to spend $500 to be allowed to buy Eagle Rare at $55. No exceptions. So no comparisons anytime soon.
Hey Dean! That does not seem like a good loyalty program as that is too much money to spend for $55 Eagle Rare. If it was for a $35 Eagle Rare, I might understand but they are charging secondary pricing AND loyalty points?? No good. @@WhiskeyBank I spoke to the owner about his take on the loyalty program. He said TW can get ER and sell for $41-$43 in our area because they're the Home Depot of liquor. He had to take on a lot of bottles to get ER so his retail price is $55. Some stores sell ER by us for $99. He then showed me the big amount of meh Scotch he had to get to just get the few allocated bottles he got so I guess I can understand why. I told him I'll get to $500 eventually.
@@TheReal_DeanD Hey Dean! The supply and demand will always set the pricing in your area, but my comment was based on the fact that you had to use loyalty points AND pay $55 for the bottle. I understand the stores needing to buy so many other bottles to get the eagle rare and blanton's, but usually when you use loyalty points, they will sell it at MSRP or slightly above it. I would understand if it was $55 just on the shelf with no need to use any points. Maybe there is much more demand in your area than mine for an Eagle Rare and $55 is a deal. At least you have the relationship to ask these questions with the owner and the owner being honest with you is also fantastic!

Love your reviews. I bought this American Oak recently and have only had the neck pour, so need to get into more but initial impressions were good. Don’t think it’s in the ER category so far because it lacked that fruity quality. But loyal BT product drinkers need alternatives because of their odd distribution and seemingly wonky prices at times. Cheers 🥃
Hello Keith! Yes, eagle rare is better and I would take it over the 2XO any day, but like you said, not the easiest to find at msrp for some people. Nice review David. For me, each 2XO blends got better. The Phoenix blend was meh and not worth $100. The Innskeeper Blend was more complex and pretty good. I thought the Tribute Blend was fantastic. I bought the 2XO American Oak last week and cracked it open last weekend. It was very enjoyable and I like the price point of $50. I have 6 bottles of Eagle Rare that I paid $35 each, so for me, price does not come into the comparison against 2XO. Like them both for what they are, but I am LOYAL to Eagle Rare. 🥃

I agree with you, if you can find a Eagle Rare at MSRP or below the 2XO price, buy the Eagle Rare all day~ but most of us normal people (LOL) can't find Eagle Rare at $35 on a regular basis so I was happy this was comparable and similar. If and when Eagle Rare becomes an "always on the shelf" bourbon again, 2XO will need to either step up their game or lower the price. Hopefully more good competition like the 2XO will lower the demand for Eagle Rare, making it much more available. I always appreciate you taking the time to view and comment on my videos! It pains me to be the lone naysayer but I don’t enjoy this bottle at all. My aversion to corn forward flavors hit me hard with this one. For me, it doesn’t come close to Eagle Rare. Ben Holladay, Bardstown Origin, Remus store picks, BT store picks are all better to me (understanding that some are significantly more expensive than this bottle).
I can see how you get those notes as when I say the "young oak", those can certainly be a turnoff and come out as "grainy" or corn forward. Eagle Rare is a great bottle and hard to beat, but also hard to find so I was glad it was "similar", but definitely the Eagle Rare is better. The other bottles you choose are fantastic!! The Bardstown Origin Bottled in Bond is one of my favorites this years, especially at $50. Thank you so much for your view and comment! I'm going to go back to it tonight to see if I get the corn forward note as well~ Cheers!
