Her time and the way people were are indeed long gone. But the Redeemer she sings of still exists and His name is Jesus Christ. He is alive for evermore. And all who put their faith in Him shall be saved. That is what the Holy Bible says. Bless God for beautifully composed music that shows us who God is and bless God for singers who use their talent to glorify the Son of God who died and rose again.
@@iandaniel5529 I grew up in the Roman Catholic church which traces its origin to St. Peter who was instructed by "Jesus Christ" to build his church. It turned out to be the largest criminal organization the world has ever known. In France alone, the Christian clergy sexually abused 219,000 children. In the USA, it's in the millions. These horrible crimes were committed by creatures supposedly made in God's image and doing his work on earth. Needless to say, I don't believe in any of that cr@p anymore, but I do admire the beautiful singing of Ms. Baillie.
It still exists in the minds of a fair number of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they still see the world and religion and music this way and perform accordingly.
I was very blessed to be able to meet and sing for Dame Baillie when I was 17, just a few years before her death. (Contrary to the notes on this video, my understanding is that she passed on 24 September 1983.) She was visiting a friend in Melbourne, Florida, where I grew up, and she and her friend attended a musical gathering that featured my voice teacher - also in her 80's - as the speaker. My teacher was Roberta Peters' vocal coach when she was a teenager, and her late husband, Erich Hertzmann, was a renowned German-American musicologist; she assisted him in his work locating original manuscripts that were hidden during WWII. I sang "Deh vieni non tardar" from Le Nozze di Figaro and possibly "Rejoice" or "Come Unto Him" from the Messiah. (Thank heavens my voice teacher didn't have me sing this aria! But she knew better even if I didn't.) Other than the Mozart, it's difficult to recall exactly what else I sang, but 44 years later, I will never forget what a lovely and gracious woman Dame Baillie was. I had no idea at the time who she was or how magnificent a voice she had, but I still felt that day as though I'd been in the presence of greatness. I treasure it as one of the highlights of my life.
This quality singing that is portrayed here is something that will stand the test of time and maybe into eternity. I think the word she paused to look for , was "worship". "A quiet conviction"
Yet the "Defender of the Faith" is silent, when Christians are arrested for preaching the Bible in the UK & Europe (Pride-ideology). No matter, this world shall pass. 2. TIMOTHY 3: "12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."
How wonderful to hear this great singer chatting. What a privilege. The singing voice was obviously still in good shape even at her advanced age in this film. And a word of delight about the lovely talents of the scholar in this clip too.
Dame Isobel must have been in her early 80’s when this was filmed, and the voice was as good as 50 years earlier. We often hear people referred to as “national treasures”, she was surely one. To quote a phrase, Ad fab.
God bless such singers. The world, including the UK, needs them. Psalm 92: 1 "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: 2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, 3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound."
Superb in every way and such an important historical memory. What a lifelong privilege for Dinah Harris and David Harper who were both excellent and very moving. Thank you so much for sharing.
What a wonderful film, Isobel Baillie is an idol of mine, is there any more footage? Her conviction for the words of the bible is wonderful! Bravi to Dinah and David also!
It is written: JOHN 8: 31 "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
What a treasure she was! Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for the opportunity of hearing this marvellous voice for the first time.
Yes such a singer all these years and the sincerity of singing of the Lord and my heart cried deeply
How beautiful! Thank you for posting. Truth personified.
not only demonstrating your beautiful voice, but a deep seated conviction that rises from the heart and brings tears to my eyes!!
I'm crying from too much beauty.
Her world does not exist any more. It's long, long gone.

The gates of Hell will not prevail against Christ’s Church. Do not despair.

La plus belle chanson.

The meaning needs to be behind it. Well said!

The female voice is so very beautiful ❤😂 Mike.
Dame Isobel was so wonderful. Such a sparkle in her eye.

The great boy soprano Derek Barsham took her place in concert in 1945 on her instance when I'll. She was described as having the perfect boy's voice.
Thank you for posting this. A memory of a better time. Isobel Ballie "if you have faith and it will be alright"

Great to see Isobel Baillie. Thanks for sharing.

"I try to give them the idea of the message behind the words" - so often this is lost with modern singers, not only in oratorio but also in opera.

¿Se puede hallar ésta entrevistatraducida al castellano? Sería tan valiosa!
Anyone else see parallels between Maggie Thatcher's speaking style and Dame IB's? Also, who's that dish at the piano? Cor! ;-)
