What I love about Lynne Dawson is that she sings in honour of the words & music before her & doesn't "play" w every note to show off her abundant vocal capabilities. She keeps it simple, w a legato to die for. She makes Handel's message clear, not ambiguous or over complex. And that only a great artist can do.
This is the most gorgeous rendition I have ever heard of this piece. Truly angelic and inspiring! It brought tears to my eyes. Her voice is strong, clear and true: neither too dramatic nor too tentative. Perfect. The meaning shines through not only the words but through the music and through her voice. It brings me to my knees before God in joy and gratitude.
This has to be one of the most faith-reaffirming works ever written. No matter how many times I hear it, I am raised up out of the mere and profane; straight into the sublime and divine. She sings it with genuine warmth and sincerity. Thank you for uploading this performance.
Blessings from Taiwan 🇹🇼😇🧧💖🥰 What a BEAUTIFUL song 💖 to REMIND us that our redeemer lives so we will have ETERNAL HOPE 😇🥳 Hope EVERYONE will VISIT Taiwan when the pandemic is over. 🇹🇼🥳
So beautully and prayerfully sung, reflecting the soul of Haendel in his holy inspiration, soaring to heaven to join the angel choirs of heaven in praise of our redeemer. Prayerfully hope she keep singing in her full gift and devotion to Our Lord. holiest redeemer!
@mezzoly Handel's recognition of the voice as an instrument in its own right. One of the reasons I love his music so much. Lynne Dawson's interpretation is exquisite.
Lynne Dawson, my favorite lyric soprano! I just bought 2 CDs. I first heard your voice at Princess Diana's funeral. Stunning and gorgeous, your voice transports the heart and mind to heaven. I study your fine ornaments and intelligent interpretation. Brava!
She has a lovely voice, but yes, I agree her eyes seem to exude a sort of warmth only present in the most kindest of souls. You are lucky to have had her as a teacher!
Lovely, sweet voice, perfect for this work. Just the right combination of richness with a light touch. This isn't grand opera, after all. Notice the light shining upon her, as if she were one of heaven's angels. She even looks like an angel. At least, she sings like one, and one can tell she believes what she is singing about.
Lynne Dawson is, in my humble but accurate opinion, the soprano voice of the century. Very clear diction, no 'scooping', convincing, reverent performance.
Beautiful. Totally agree with others' comments. I wanted to listen to this this morning in memory of my Mum who used to sing it too. She believed that her Redeemer lives and that she would one day see him. What a comfort and a joy to have this truth in our hearts.
The moment I heard that Queen Elizabeth had passed today, as we were expecting it, I thought of this hymn, because the Queen was a believer in Lord Jesus Christ. We will see her in Heaven, all of us in God's Family.
I just found this today. It went along with the idea of my devotions this morning......so meaningful that Christ Followers have the only living God!! Tell your Mom how much I loved her rendition.
I heard her in Yorkshire when she was quite young and fell in love with her wonderful true as a bell voice, and was thrilled to hear her singing Verdi at Diana's funeral She gave it her all that day. This is an exceptional performance by a beautiful lady.
Absolutely beautiful. The melody is inspiring, the lyrics are powerful, the singer is lovely, the presentation is outstanding. I've lost track of how many times I've watched this. God bless you, G.F. Handel.
How do you follow the Hallelujah Chorus? With this quiet, confident expression of faith in Jesus Christ. This shows more of the mastery of Handel than 100 Hallelujah Choruses (not that I don't love that piece as well). This singer has just the right touch. Not meant to be overly dramatic...just quiet and inspired.
I know that my redeemer liveth And that he shall stand At the latter day, upon the earth I know that my redeemer liveth And that he shall stand At the latter day, upon the earth Upon the earth I know that my redeemer liveth And he shall stand Stand at the latter day, upon the earth Upon the earth And though worms destroy this body Yet in my flesh shall i see God Yet in my flesh shall i see God I know that my redeemer liveth And though worms destroy this body Yet in my flesh shall i see God Yet in my flesh shall i see God Shall i see God I know that my redeemer liveth For now is Christ risen from the dead The first fruits of them that sleep Of them that sleep The first fruits of them that sleep For now is Christ risen For now is Christ risen from the dead The first fruits of them that sleep
+Kathy Jones why not make a recording of your performance. I and I imagine others savour hearing the different performances. Each has something new to offer the listener.

Beth Boyle that saaad song is more your fave than Evry Valley, Rejoice Greatly, and the Hallelujah Chorus???? Aw, gee, whiz. (I get hurt easily so I would say that too everybody)
Wonderful. Wonderful. Lynne, God has given you a beautiful voice, and you have honed your skills so excellently! I grew up with my tenor dad soloing frequently with Handel's Messiah and many other Oratorios and pieces, and I have a nice soprano voice, and have taught music, but your Lovely voice is ... Perfect!!! Great melismas! I'm so glad I found this today. What a lovely tone to your voice, clear & so pleasant - it thrills the soul! (Great acoustics there as well) Thank you! God bless you.
So often you hear sopranos sing this piece and either pinch the vocal or wander in and out of being flat with vibrato so wide that you could drive a truck through it. This performance is nearly perfect. Round and expressive and full of brilliant musical nuance. I so enjoyed this and have added it to my playlist.
I love Lynne's voice. She sang at Diana's funeral. Kiri sang at her wedding. Two of the most authentic sopranos ever. To me Lynne is the best soprano in England at the moment. She is a truly beautiful woman too. Whenever the Royal Family picks a soprano, they choose quality.
Thank you for posting this wonderful moment . YEAR OF RECORDING -1994 - Handel: Messiah (Choir of King's College, Cambridge, with Lynne Dawson, Hilary Summers, John Mark Ainsley and Alastair Miles)
Thank you so much for posting. This clip shows an original rendition of the masterpiece , which is vitalised through the breath of a very specially gifted young singer.
Very nicely done. Her voice is very rich and beautiful to listen to, enjoy, and appreciate. Her interpretive ability in this piece is very subtle, and slight, without a lot of ostentatious show and drama. Perhaps that it what Handel intended. She knows that her "redeemer liveth" as shown in her facial expression, but greater concentration is given on technical delivery than drama, and I think this was rather wise on her part.
On Good Friday in the year 2021, a year filed with loss pain trauma and seemingly endless violence this might be the greatest source of hope. Lynne Dawson’s wonderfully nuanced, accessible and incredibly lyrical performance could make a Christian believer out of anybody who is lucky enough to hear her sing “I know that my Redeemer Liveth”.
Isobel Baillie, Eileen Farrell, Lynne Dawson - different interpretations but each has its own beauty. There are some versions of this music on youtube (no names!) where the singer is showing off; the three ladies I have named place their gifts and skills at the service of the music - that is their greatness.
Lynne, You sing with such clarity of tone and immaculate enunciation. So well done! You also have a beautiful countenance and are such a pleasure to watch. I'm left hoping that Jesus really is YOUR redeemer.
Yahweh the Great God himself who was very obviously the original author and originator of this piece of music! G F Handel & Mr Charles Jennens through whom this was obviously written by the inspiration of God!
As a dying man who preaches to dying men, this is some of the greatest encouragement I know. My eyes will behold Him, and not another. Amen.
Exquisite voice testifying of Our Lord🤍
@@acbulgin2 absolutely beautiful 🤍🙏

It is a truly wonderful recording. Lynne Dawson is a wonderful singer, and Stephen Cleobury,a superb musician of immense ability and reputation.
What an incredible talent this woman - this is what angels must sound like. Tremendous. Thank you for posting.
I love the simple, unaffected way she sings this. She sings the words like she means them.
Simple & unaffected. Perfect description of what makes Lynne Dawson's singing so moving. Along w her drop dead gorgeous voice, ofc.
I recently read this from her: "I always try to mean what I sing." 🙆
Beautiful

She was once my singing teacher and her personality was ever warmer than her voice.
Luis Ortega Why do I have no problem believing that? She looks so sweet.
LUCKY YOU!!
Wow what a privilege that must have been.
I could listen and watch her sing all day.
Lynne instantly puts me in a place to Worship our Risen Lord .
She has a lovely voice, but yes, I agree her eyes seem to exude a sort of warmth only present in the most kindest of souls. You are lucky to have had her as a teacher!
She is head of department at my college :) she is the loveliest person ever
Oh, so lovely. Volume, vibrato, tone, intonation, beautiful.
Such a wonderful orchestra. Good tempo.

For Handel, perhaps. But I love this rendition so much! I never get enough of it.
Manassés Martins For much that she sings. And certainly for early music, including Mozart, Schubert & Beethoven, not to mention Bach & Handel.
Beautiful. Totally agree with others' comments. I wanted to listen to this this morning in memory of my Mum who used to sing it too. She believed that her Redeemer lives and that she would one day see him. What a comfort and a joy to have this truth in our hearts.

A well disciplined and beautiful voice. Thank you.
This is undoubtedly the greatest rendition of this wonderful piece of music that I have ever heard. BRAVISSIMO.

Ms. Dawson's rendition and voice are superb. Thank you.
Wow! Beautifully, smoothly and just the right vibrato!!!!
My eyes are so full of tears....listening to this beautiful air .....my favourite from “ The Messiah ! “
I know that my redeemer liveth
And that he shall stand
At the latter day, upon the earth
I know that my redeemer liveth
And that he shall stand
At the latter day, upon the earth
Upon the earth
I know that my redeemer liveth
And he shall stand
Stand at the latter day, upon the earth
Upon the earth
And though worms destroy this body
Yet in my flesh shall i see God
Yet in my flesh shall i see God
I know that my redeemer liveth
And though worms destroy this body
Yet in my flesh shall i see God
Yet in my flesh shall i see God
Shall i see God
I know that my redeemer liveth
For now is Christ risen from the dead
The first fruits of them that sleep
Of them that sleep
The first fruits of them that sleep
For now is Christ risen
For now is Christ risen from the dead
The first fruits of them that sleep
Thank you. Fortunately, w Miss Dawson's diction, we are hard put not to understand.
To my eternal beloved EF.
What a voice! The quality!!! Wow~~~
Dawson and Cleobury: the beauty of this performance is beyond words. Many thanks.
This is just so perfect. It is my favorite song from the Messiah and Lynne does it so well.
Beth Boyle I have sung this myself as a solo in Handel's Messiah :).

I only disagree in that I think it IS perfect! Well expressed, Pete.
I think this aria is the best painkiller ever, Haendel always give me consolation.
She sings this almost like plainsong, very simple and direct but with a lot of warmth. My favorite version, bar none.
Also my favourite version. Bar none. 🎶

Beautiful. This is the best rendition I have heard.
It is The Best!
Agreed!
I have been listening to this the whole day and each time it sounds fresh and new. what a voice, what a great arrangement. This is absolutely superb.
Stephen Cleobury conductor R.I.P 1948-2019
I am sorry to read this. 😔 R.I.P.
A very soft and pleasant voice. This might be my favorite version of this beautiful song.
Beautifully sung and so lovely to look at. Dame Isobel Baillie recorded this also, during the war years, unmissable.
I want this sung at my funeral as well
I love this aria, too. Always moving, and yet soothing
Wow, she is spectacular!
Absolutely beautiful. I thank my daughter for passing it on.
I so love this version! For reasons I can't entirely put my finger on, Lynne Dawson reminds me of Lucy in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The haircut?
Absolutely!!
Saw her as Rodelinda in The Hague when she was in her twenties. Very impressive!
Not only a glorious voice but extreme beauty of face.
I KNOW that MY Redeemer liveth! (Job 19:25) Praise His Name! \o/ Have to learn this for my singing lessons - beautiful words
A great Handelian singer. So beautiful
I shall never forget Lynne Dawson singing for Princess Diana's funeral service-- that was ELECTRIC. From Verdi---------- I think!!
That was the best performance of Verdi Requiem’s Libera Me... hands down
Thank you so much for posting. This clip shows an original rendition of the masterpiece , which is vitalised through the breath of a very specially gifted young singer.

Dudley Ward I like Lynne but this aria really tears me up.
...no offense, Mr. Handel
