Handel’s music is for the ages. Magnificent voice, and a fine performance on the valveless trumpet.
I listen to this incredible music with the memory of young Sophy Scholl in my thoughts, who at 21 was arrested by the Gestapo in February 1943 at Munich University, that later resulted in her brutal execution by guillotine by the Nazis for her peaceful action resisting Hitler’s regime. It was reported that in the last moments of her life she looked up to the skies and said “It is such a splendid sunny day, and I have to go.” This was her realisation that she was never more to ‘feel the heat of the Sun’. Although her life was cut so tragically short, her immense courage and determined self-belief in what was right for the people of Germany, lived on just as the Eternal source of light Devine. Sophie Magdalena Scholl was born on 9th May 1922 and died a hero. A version of the text of the White Rose that led to Sophie’s arrest was later smuggled out of Germany, copied by the RAF and redistributed from the air by British planes flying over German cities as Allied propaganda that contributed to the inevitable defeat and fall of Nazi Germany. Incidentally Sophie loved the music of Bach and Handel and undoubtedly would have appreciated his wonderful melody. May Sophie’s memory continue on ‘with distinguished glory shine. To add lustre to this day’.
What a beautiful tribute to a young woman of unbelievable courage.
Her and the White Rose movement was captivated by the argument of conscience from Aquinas and Newman! Her Christian faith was her most enduring legacy.
@@jmcallion2071 Thank you she was a remarkable girl
She has no need of the light nor the "heat of the Sun", because she faces eternal heavenly light, now. "And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day-and there will be no night there." Revelation 21: 22-25. This is the inspiration for Handel's piece, "Eternal Source of Light Divine" --Jesus Christ--the Light and Lamp of the World.
I've spent months listening to other versions of this: somehow this one eluded me. The purity of tone of the soprano, the incredible "technical brilliance" of the valveless accompanist: the ensemble working together seamlessly - this is the best. Wow!!!
4 months later I have realised just why this is so good. Listen to the “attack” at 1:10mins - she doesn’t slide up to the note like everyone else - she hits it immediately. Her technique is magnificent. Every note is hit without the usual creep up to it from a safe note. Also, there are no false aspirates (when a singer sounds like a woodpecker by re-aspirating each new note instead of just running across it - e.g. what makes Maria Callas better than Cecilia Bartoli).
It's a secular piece.
Thank you Marie Sophie I consider it a privilege to be able to hear you perform this heavenly music at will. I loved it
❤
Point of Praise:
This is a period trumpet - no valves. What an uncommonly good performance. GJS
A beautiful rendition of my favourite song. Her voice is angelic and the trumpet crystal clear. Many thanks for making my day.
Transcendental, spiritually uplifting. It's a different world altogether. Thanks!
It was a being of light who bequeathed us his inspiration
@@nielstoledo6981 Very , very beautifully sung. King Charles,( then prince) chose this aria for the wedding, left to those two they probably would have chosen crap Rap instead
These unexpected gems from Handel are sheer ambrosia for the soul! You hear about water music and Messiah but these little forgotten delights are God's gifts!
I agree. This is the first time I have heard this and I am blown away by the whole performance….but, her voice! It is the voice of an Angel.
Hardly forgotten, just less well known and a symptom of the ‘greatest hits’ syndrome that seems to plague classical music in general.
@@michaelmitas7440 Yes, an absolutely beautiful performance. But actually Handel wrote this piece to be sung by a non castrato male, Richard Elford, whose voice was in the alto range and who was a lead singer in the Chapel Royal at the time. It's interesting that we often see the famous "Lascia ch'io Pianga" sung by well known male singers like Phillipe Jarousky on youtube when it was actually originally written for a female singer at the time. Of course, Castrato voices from history, high pitched male falsetto type singing and female singers all worked within the same general range and could exchange operatic parts or songs as needed.
Leave God where he is! Suffering is found in this world and nowhere elsewhere. Man can be divine as well as satanic. To meditate! *Lucien*
Simplemente hermoso
It's 90 degrees F here, and I have goosebumps all over my body!! What absolute perfection.
If life offered just one moment of happiness, then this music would be heard in it.
My blood pressure lowered 20 points listening to this.❤

I haven't heard such a beautiful performance for a long time
Awestruck, enraptured and absolutely bowled over. How did UA-cam's algorithm know to play this music to me? It's a miracle.
Magnificent interpretation in a wonderful setting! Eternal light forever.
I knew and loved this piece before the Royal Wedding.
The magnificent voice and the virtuoso trumpet were indeed the most outstanding elements of this concerto, but let us not forget how utterly incomplete their performance would sound if not for the excellent playing in the background. All these talents playing together have created something Handel would proud of, I am sure.
Thanks very much, a beautiful rendition.
magnifique ensemble ,voix sublime
Incredibly beautiful, thank you!

Fantástica ,maravillosa !!!!!!Que grande es nuestra Cultura !!!
Wonderful 🙏🕊❤💎
Wonderful! Congratulation!
Algo de divino nessa peça !
Do Brasil para esse maravilhoso ensemble !!! Bravoooo !!!
I like very much Händels decision to iuxtaposition the trombone alongside the voice of the chanting angel and maybe was his thought to provide an holistic summary of the creation itself, the trombone going for the celestial solemnity and the voice for the earthen angelousness.... ...anyway I do not like my confusion about the tuning ( I got < h > but isn't it supposed to be c?... ) and this is one heaven of an aria I could listen to all day long...
Le p'tit Daniel
Einfach nur göttlich
I can only imagine walking down the aisle to this song

Just beautiful... wow 💯
I have found a new star! Pollak sings Handel very well and is a charming and beautiful woman. In addition, stylish and skilled musicians. I thought the video would have gotten over 100,000 views! I listen to a lot of classical music and to my ears Marie-Sophie is a real star, and my girlfriend agrees with me.
Thank you so much! Maybe we'll get 100,000 views in future:)
@@concertomunchen7902 That would be great!
