    The Eldris is the perfect pocket knife for me. A year or two ago, I started searching for the perfect "pocket carry" fixed blade. I tried a friends Esee Izula and bought a Tops MSK 2.5, but wasn't really loving the handles on either knife. Around the same time I bought my MSK, Mora released the Eldris. I knew I had to try it. But I still had my doubts. When I first held My Eldris I could tell that the handle would not be the problem this time. It feels great, more like a full size knife. Unlike the Esee and Tops, It feels a lot more substantial in my pocket. I like this because it doesn't move around a lot. So overall the Eldris quickly became my favorite knife and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a Simple, Robust, EDC friendly, Woods-worthy knife. Sorry if this comment is a bit to long.

    I carry three knives. The garberg, the kansbol, and the Eldris. They all have their individual roles in my outdoor adventures. The Garberg is my knife of choice for the heavy work. The Kansbol is great for camp chores and meal prep. The Edris is just a handy knife to have for those quick cutting jobs where a big knife is a little overkill. I’ve owned all three of these knives for quite a while and they have performed so well that I have retired most of my overpriced fancy blades. I absolutely love Morakniv.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 років тому +1

      Couldn’t agree more Chase! The expensive blades do the same job and they got a real nice look but in these conditions you might as well buy three knives from Mora or like I did a knife, an axe and a saw, all for the price of a fancy knife! Thanks for your comment brother!

    I love the Eldris so much so that I have 7 of them. I have one suspended from my steering column in my car, I have one attached to my chest pouch, one hanging from my neck, one in my pocket , etc.. they are light weight and are perfect for most everyday chores.

    Nice review Ted! I have a red one with the neck/ferro rod kit, really like it. It tend to go with me everywere and i find myself using it for almost all knife and firestarting tasks. Lighting up stoves etc. Small and light weight. I have as well an hunters axe, just the size larger than the one you had in the video. Fits perfekt in my packpack. The eldris fits perfect in my armpocket at the Fjällräven Keb jacket.

    The Morakniv Eldris reminds me of the Roselli Bear Claw which I have in the ultra high carbon steel. The handle is full sized, but the knife doesn't come with the option of neck carry. I think the Eldris would be useful as a knife for day hikes and light camping. The flatter grind near the tip for slicing cuts when prepping foods or processing game

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 років тому

      I think you’re on point! Light camping and a great EDC knife! Since I got this one I haven’t used the Mora bushcraft black at all, this one does the job for half the size!

    Yes I liked it allright :-)
    Becoming a knife collector is really not my ambition, but for some reason I really want an Eldris. My main knife is a Casström no. 10 and I don’t see it easily replaced as I like it a lot. But, well, the Eldris is just so cute and still a real tool - your review leaves no doubt about that! Not sure I can restrain myself :-)

    Did you ever consider something such as a swiss army knife? Most of the time a Victorinox Outrider is my backup (and primary) knife, if going "UL" the huntsman. Both have a blade thats great for carving (even fixed on the outrider), scissors for cutting bandages or cordage plus a saw thats okay for smaller branches and perfect for use on a ferro rod. Additionally the awl is nice for small bushcraft works and the tweezers are great for removing ticks. I used to carry a mora bushcraft survival (none black from back in the days ;)) plus a bahco saw but for longer hikes the SAKs are much more useful and lighter :)
    Main problem is where to carry them because on my regular belt it interferes with the backpack waist belt. During fall or spring I can wear my beloved long fjallraven karl trousers which have a small pocket on the left side which perfectly fits a SAK :) Too bad the otherwise pretty high tech keb gaiters do not have such a pocket and switched the smartphone place from left to right side.. damn muscle memory.. have to relearn ;)
    Having small blade accessible within seconds for small carving tasks, striking a ferro rod or cutting salami is still something that draws me a bit to the mora eldris even though I probably really don't need it :)
    Anyhow, thanks for the nice review.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 років тому

      Thanks for watching and for your comment! I do have a couple of Swiss Army knives, big and small! They are kept in my car for the time being, they are of course very useful but at the same time I find that I really don’t use all that they offer, all I need is a small knife and that’s where the Eldris turns out to be a perfect companion! I know what you mean with the Keb trousers however they are meant for a more technical use case, I would go with a pair of barents or something along those lines, more pockets and a better fit for bushcraft! Thanks again for watching!

  • @danaconover8363
    @danaconover8363 5 років тому +3

    I have a number of "bushcraft" knives of various sizes and designs which i use regularly. Lately I have been using smaller rat tail designs like Heller because of the weight/convenience consideration. I would not have any issue relying on that knife as a primary blade since I rarely see a need to baton or chop with a knife. An axe or hatchet is a better tool for that work. 99% of the time i use my knife for food processing, carving, or fire starting all of which can be accomplished with a short blade. That being said I would still like to win that S1.

    Hej Ted
    The Eldris is a great small knife. I have been thinking repeatedly about getting one as I prefer smaller fixed blades outdoors. You simply have more control over a small blade. The main reason I didn’t get an Eldris yet is that I love natural handle materials. I own a bunch of Helle Nyings and a Fällkniven WM1/3G I have customized into a small Sami style knife. I would never part from this.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  3 роки тому

      It would be nice if they would do something like that for their blades too, the price point may go up a bit but the natural fee and the environmental impact may be improved!

    • @Fuxjaga
      @Fuxjaga 3 роки тому +1

      In Scandinavia there is a great tradition of selfmade outdoor/hunting knives. Morakniv is offering almost all blade types as blade only. So you can get the basis for a selfmade. The rest is up to gathering materials, your skills and patience. There is a good book by Bo Bergman describing the “how-to”.

    • @Fuxjaga

      Anyway an advantage of the Eldris out of the shop is that it is very rugged even under wet and dirty conditions and cleans easily afterwards.

Knife is something I need to add to my gear list alongside with a pair of goggles, which should also strike a balance between their size and image quality. And by the way good job on the music front.
