I used to have FOMO. However i realised that i had to make a choice because i don't have the room or money for them. Now i carefully think about what i want and stick to it. Hi Chris, you're right, I, ll be patient and wait for you to sell me that 1/4 Villains I mentioned to you the other night. Lol.. Don't forget me,I was first to ask.🙏
Awesome video. Congrats on the DK Master Race!!! Always loved that piece and happy it’s in the Bat Bunker now!!! Personally pre-ordering for me is for payment plans…it makes the high price more digestible. But, shipping destroys that in a way, especially when it’s 300$ plus.
Hey, thanks for checking out the video! I'm stoked that you enjoyed it and that the DK Master Race has found a home in the Bat Bunker. Pre-ordering does have its perks, but shipping costs can definitely take a toll. It's like they're trying to steal our hard-earned collector's coins!
Ah, the classic case of FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out. It's a struggle we all face in the collector's world. But hey, at least you've found your ultimate grail!
I don't do PO's , never felt comfortable doing them due to delivery time frames, year or year and a half is unacceptable for me, if I miss them out so be it. My only exception is when I order from MYC or some other companies where the ES is so small (less than 100) that made almost impossible to get those pieces second hand at reasonable prices.
Very interesting topic 👍😊. Regarding pre order and the sales. We should ask ourselves the question. If they sell, for example their Harley Quinn Arkham City for a 35 percent discount at Sideshow and 50 percent off at Prime 1. Then we can all assume that they overpriced the statue very high at the beginning. I don't believe that they sell with a high loss. I think at 35 percent off they are still make some money on it. At 50 then maybe not. That ES was high but I keep asking myself that. But indeed with all the sales I read online more an more that people are waiting with pre ordering to see how a statue is going. Regarding the Fomo. I try to limit myself to a maximum amount on active pre orders. That helps. And I also try to keep myself to my buying plan, to my focus. But for another example I do get Fomo sometimes. When you are waiting for a statue coming in from retailer A, but online you see that everyone else is getting the statue in from other retailers. When this project keeps going on month after month after month then Fomo can sneek it. Because you never know if that retailer will get all the pre order stock in. So at that point fomo can creeps in.
I appreciate your insight! It's always great to hear different perspectives on the collector's dilemma. It's a constant battle between managing our budgets and giving in to the fear of missing out. Stay strong!
Fomo is for the newcomers. Once you learn your taste, and after you have used a ton of your liveable space fomo goes away with a quickness. You can almost always find a licensed piece down the line, you might need a little patience, and you might need to pay a small mark up, but you'll likely find it.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! It's true that once you find your taste and have limited space, FOMO tends to fade away. Patience and a little extra cost can often lead to finding that licensed piece down the line.
I used to have it. Not so much anymore. I've been collecting a long time. There's a lot of things I never thought I'd have that I now have. If you want something, you can usually find a way to get. I've preordered a lot but things like rare books sometimes you just have to be patient.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's inspiring to hear that with time and patience, you've been able to acquire the items you never thought you'd have. Keep up the great work!
You were spot on about how things were! FOMO was a thing 3 to 4 years ago, but it's the opposite these days. If buying a statue, you should plan on keeping it for life because it is near impossible to sell even at a 50% loss. Remember when XM magneto on throne was 3k!? Now you can pick up 15 better Magneto statues for cost. If I sound jaded, it's because I am, as this was once a great space, but greedy folks and China production straight killed it. I get you have to continue to make content, and you should, but man, the days of really treating these as collectibles are over. I still have some pieces that I love, but I'm glad I liquidated a few years ago because nothing would move in today's climate. By the time the market even considers a correction, there will be so many statues in the space that the hobby will never be the same.
I think people who have fomo for characters they’re not a fan of, sell them x amount of years later and have more money than common sense is really stupid tbh
Honestly only statues I pulled the trigger right away was the prime 1 skin poison ivy, prime 1penguin and jnd Clark Kent and Reeves Superman.. I been patient with my other statues though.. great video..
I missed out on the XM Hulk Transformation piece. For me it’s the one that hit away. I didn’t have the money at the time as my wife and I were saving for our house. But man it bugs the hell out of me that I missed that one. It’s still being listed for double retail even in this market. 😢
It can be really frustrating when you miss out on a collector's item, especially when it's still being listed for double retail. Hang in there, and hopefully, you'll come across another amazing piece soon!
I constantly have FOMO. Most recently I had it with my Jazzinc 89 Batwing when the company announced they had extra inventory from people dropping their pre orders so I got it instantly, then it happened again with Jazzinc Justice League batmobile signature edition when my waitlist converted after I forgot about it and had already bought other stuff. I bought it as well lol
Dude, FOMO is real, especially when it comes to collecting. It's like the universe knows when to tempt us with those limited edition drops. But hey, at least you scored some sweet additions to your collection!
the fomo plus the aftermarket like you talk about has absolutely hit me recently with the desire to stop, or slow down collecting. Pre ordering a Hot Toys figure for like 300 to watch them go for about 100 on ebay is a bit too crushing. I don't collect for the ES or for rarity but knowing I'm wasting so much more money than I used to sucks. But then the fomo kicks in with "what if this is another Yondu" that goes for like £500 and I don't want to pay that aha. Hate it. edit but I suppose the one side of this is that yondu does kind of keep his value so .... It's harder to buy because it's so expensive but it at least keeps it's value better.
Collecting can be a love-hate relationship, can't it? It's like a never-ending battle between your heart and your wallet. But hey, at least you have the potential to score a Yondu-like figure and make some serious cash! Keep your eyes peeled for those hidden gems!
Yeah of course. It’s why I did back to back 80 hour work weeks 2weeks ago so I could put down that nrd on the Indiana Jones set without it eating into my regular check.
I think the market is adjusting a bit to these huge edition sizes. Sideshow seemed to lower the ES of some statues recently, like the Wolverine Ronin only having 500 and basically selling out before going in stock. Recent Joker and Ivy being very low ES. The new Arnold T2 by Prime 1 only 500 and 300 ES for the platinum and deluxe. That's fairly low for a super popular actor/character and film. That's one that I will most likely pre order on Sideshow, as I do not want to miss out on that. It's a personal grail item to me, and I am less concerned about getting a good deal/steal on it because it's so important.
It's true in my case but only of a characters that I like. For example, I purchased the Prime 1 Rebirth Wonder Woman during the SS sale. I kept going back and forth whether to get her or not. It didn't help because she had the almost sold-out alert. But deep down i know I'll see her on sale for even lower than what i got her for.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always interesting to hear how others navigate the world of collecting. Your insights are much appreciated!
Ive limited myself to only collecting female character and only ones that I dont really second guess if I want them in my collection or not. The moment theres any doubt, its a no. So that alleviates a lot of the stress and/or FOMO associated to some statues.
Im patient , my problem is I procrastinate alot which is a good and bad thing because I could miss out on a piece I like due to new pieces being released before the end of the year that im waiting to see but I most certainly dont lose sleep over it , some good stuff is coming so im being patient .
It's great that you're patient and not losing sleep over it! Just remember to stay on top of those new releases so you don't miss out on any pieces you like. Good things come to those who wait!
OMG, I totally get what you mean! It's so much better now that items stay in stock and come back with discounts. No more feeling like you missed out on the best deals!
I used to preorder all the time. Now I only do that for something I really want. Like with hot toys, I got 11 of them this year, and paid full price for 3 of them, which were preorders. The rest were from sideshow daily deals, or the secondary market. Then I bought 5 of them between spooktacular and Black Friday, I really wanted them but was too lazy to buy them at release. So my laziness paid off 😁
Looks like you've mastered the art of strategic laziness! It's all about finding that perfect balance between getting what you want and not breaking a sweat. Well done!
The fact that nothing sells out during PO is a sign of the times. "Grails" are selling for retail sometimes less. I have PCS 1/3 Goro for retail and cant move it lol
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always fascinating to hear about the ups and downs of the collector's world. Keep holding onto that PCS 1/3 Goro and who knows, maybe its value will skyrocket one day!
FOMO only hits me when a new version of a character comes out and it's not as great as the one I missed out on but then I remind myself that it's only a matter of time before a new one releases but also waiting is the hard part!
I totally get what you mean! It can be tough when you feel like you missed out on a great version of a character. But you're right, there will always be new releases to look forward to!
I don't know if it counts as fomo but there are statues that were released and sold out before I ever got into the hobby that I wish I could have gotten
I totally understand that feeling! It can be frustrating when you discover something you love only to find out it's sold out. Don't worry, there are always new and exciting collectibles coming out, so keep an eye out for the next big thing!
FOMO can be tough, especially when it comes to things we love but can't afford. Hang in there, and remember that there's always something new and exciting just around the corner!
i think FOMO has passed for most collectors nowadays. Thats why sales are down but if companies provide better pre-order incentives this could probably be remedied. Maybe a drawing for those who preorder by a certain time, where you can win in stock items and merchandisers can kill two birds..they sell pre-orders while moving old items or provide better PO discounts or exclusive items only during that limited 30day window..all these can be done....im not sure why these companies are so stubborn with change.
Thank you for your insightful comment! It's great to hear suggestions on how companies can improve pre-order incentives and make the collector's experience even better.
Question! Would you buy a statue that you’ve been wanting that had some mostly unnoticeable damage and perhaps one are where you could tell something was missing? Also this piece would be 50 to 60 percent off and wouldn’t have to pay shipping. And it looks great until you really get up close besides a small missing piece
It really depends on how much the missing piece bothers you. If it's something you can live with and the discount is significant, it might be worth considering!
Ah, the classic collector's dilemma. It's like we're in a constant battle between wanting to complete our collection and not wanting to break the bank. The struggle is real!
no, I don't have enough room or money to have fomo. If a new piece comes out which I find more great then I sell a statue and get the other one. There are nearly no chances you miss out 100 %, you always get a piece on aftermarket, today mostly even under retail. If there really is a piece with low es, that sells out fast and rises in value after the release I have to bite the bullet or I just don't get it.
It's all about finding the right balance between your love for collecting and your budget. Keep up the great strategy of selling and getting new pieces!
I totally get it! FOMO can be a real struggle, but it's great that you're able to resist the urge and wait for sales. Saving some cash is always a win!
That BWL Prime1 will be going to the grave with me 😅 I am selling a good amount of statues. But I can’t part with any of TBWL from all the different companies as well. Also I’m keeping g my Punchline Prime1
Thanks for sharing your experience! FOMO can be tough to overcome, but it's cool to see people who have more self-control. Keep doing what works for you!
I think fomo can really get you sometimes especially when it is something that you really want but it can also cause you to to use a lot in your bank account unnecessary and I've had occasionally these feelings when it comes to six scale figures cuz you have something for you so you don't want to miss out on you buy them immediately and then in a few months when you get them you end up it's still in the warehouse and they're discounting it for $20 or $25 off which is why to avoid myself being that trap I just keep a monitor on figures and statues that I really want and when I see a blue screen happening then I capitalize especially now when the prices are going up and you want to capitalize on deals as much as possible because sometimes you don't want to get put on that wait list because sometimes it will convert and sometimes it will take months like I'm dealing with now to get certain things that you didn't immediately obtain you just got to pace yourself at the end of the day and try your hardest not to break the bank
Ah, the age-old battle between the collector's heart and the bank account! FOMO can be a tough opponent, but with a little self-control and strategic monitoring, we can come out victorious. Stay strong, fellow collector!
Thanks for pointing that out! FOMO can definitely be a challenge, especially when the ES numbers are low. It's always good to stay informed about the collector's dilemma.
I don't have fomo, My budget only allows me to buy 1 or 2 statues a year so I have to be selective. I wish I did have fomo though as I missed the boat on penguin and poison ivy but i live to my means and i wouldn't swap the 2 I got this year punchline and joker
FOMO? More like FOM-NO! It sounds like you've got your collector's game on point, even if it means missing out on a few gems. Keep rocking those punchline and joker statues!
FOMO can be tough to deal with, but remember that it's normal to feel that way sometimes. Just take a deep breath and remind yourself that you're doing great!
I dont think i have fomo with statues. Most of my statue/figures came from comic cons i went to through the yr with my close friend. I generally bought wht i truly wanted at tht time like i did with sideshow rogue. Ive been holding off for the poison ivy deady nature. I want her human flesh version. Statue so gorgeous. Im mostly like gonna preorder her. I have the same feeling i have for her like i had with rogue. I need her😂😂😂
That's a great perspective! It's important to remember that we can't have everything and there are limits to space and money. It's all about finding a balance that works for you.
I am 100% guilty of that. I have really bad anxiety as is and PTSD from way back in the day, I’ve never used that as an excuse or crutch to get out of being a participating member of society in a positive way, but due to certain neurological differences, items are an extremely weird trigger for me to feel like I need it and I can’t explain it any other way than maybe an addict trying to quit cigarettes and they are only on day 2 and someone is smoking next to them lol. That’s the anxiety gut feeling. Now thank god I’m in a blessed enough position through smart saving and hard work through the years, but it is to the point where you spend so much that would have been way better invested into the market or your 401k, real estate etc.. to grow that money and then 10 years down the line you’d have way more money etc….. hobbies are my kryptonite I am a cereal hobbyist and collector.

Not any more. Only for very very specific pieces. My problem is more that I'm addicted to this damn hobby 😆
After seeing the sales prime 1 and other companies have had recently my FOMO is gone. People aren't buying and waiting for sales.
I totally get it! FOMO can be a real struggle, but it's great that you're able to resist the urge and wait for sales. Saving some cash is always a win!
That BWL Prime1 will be going to the grave with me 😅
I am selling a good amount of statues. But I can’t part with any of TBWL from all the different companies as well.
Also I’m keeping g my Punchline Prime1
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's always interesting to hear about fellow collectors and their dilemmas.
There's absolutely fomo for me though usually I end up coming back and snagging it.
FOMO is real, my friend! It's like a never-ending battle between our wallets and our desire to have all the cool stuff.
@@BatmanStatueCollector FOMO, at least in my case, usually wins. 😅 I admire people who have more restraint.
FOMO is going to get a lot worse as these pieces are starting to have really low ES numbers.
💯 I do.
I need her😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's great that you've been able to make thoughtful purchases and hold off on impulse buys. Enjoy your collection!
No, I don't. You just can't have it all. Space and Money has it's Limits. It's not the End of the World, not getting a beloved Piece.
That's a great perspective! It's important to remember that we can't have everything and there are limits to space and money. It's all about finding a balance that works for you.
I'm 💯 convinced that every human does or had it in their lifetime at some point indeed 😂
Without question
