This kind of stuff is just uncalled for, you are destroying mother nature just to make a youtube video. Some pf these rocks are millions of years old i just don’t agree with that type of stuff.
Mother nature does much worse, 8 months out of year this area is under water, after next season mother nature will hide all signs of our presence which was very minimal

Black sand itthe second heaviest mineral found in the pan with gold. Usually you end up with black sand and gold at the bottom or your pan. lots of black sand is a good sign you may have lots of gold as well, not always though.

Back in the 1960s my Mom and Dad were working a CD small claim in Northern California and were making it tourist trap items using moss. They burned the dry moss and panned the ashes for fines. They then took black sand and put it in small metal gold pans and sprinkled some fine gold on the sand and then shellacked it into the pan and made a wooden stand for the pan for display. We sold the heck out of those for several years.

This is a burning passion that I have. When I was 9 years old, I found my two small pieces of gold that was in the host rock. The pan I used was a pie crust pan. 😂 but where I live isn’t a good state. But o would love to get out there learn how to and where to look.

Head to the Auburn state rec area, at the confluence of the North and middle fork American you can find good gold panning

Aren't gravel bars like that around 8:15 generally a spot to dig into?
could be, the material right on bedrock tends to be the richest here we found and its easy to dig and process.
I wish The California that I live in was where this is. I live in the part that looks like the toilet needs to be flushed badly, where it’s really really Hotter than Hot and I think the gold got left behind for the San Francisco rush and could possibly out due the 49ers by alot but has yet to be discovered.... but then again, I’ve been wrong a couple times in 41 years... maybe a few times..... but that’s stretchin it a bit.

Very nice. Too hot for me at my claim. Looks like temps. are starting to come down a little. Also need a simple movie maker program so I can make some new videos myself. how is it odd to not find anything when you already worked the area and found the gold.
I was breaking open bedrock the last few trips and found great gold almost every time, this trip I continued doing the same yet when I opened up a crack the gold just wasn't there and it's odd given the fact it was so much of the opposite prior.

Yes the popping is something I'm working on, mic is a little too hot and clipping with any real movement. Just picked up a different mic and mount and working on a custom hand rig to minimize this.

This looks like so much fun! I'm curious, when you go out prospecting, do you have to get some sort of license to remove the gold you find? In some places where i've been camping they have signs asking you not to remove rocks or artifacts. How does one go about doing this legally?
There is plenty of land here open to mineral entry "gold panning" no license required!
