    Thank you much kind sir!! our weed eater was doing the bogging down thing...it wouldn't stay running... so my boyfriend bought a replacement carburetor and it still did the same thing... he came in all defeated and frustrated... We did one Google search & found your video and watched it ... took it back apart and removed the little brass piece that was preventing our success and now it works like a champ thank you very much! Thanks for this detailed explanation. My new (year old) Echo 266 trimmer had never run well and I had no idea where this adjustment screw was. So despite your fine CYA advice to leave it the hell alone, I made the adjustment after throwing the little brass jobber-do away. I am writing from the cell which had been reserved for a politician, but my trimmer now runs great! I hear it outside the prison wall, trimming away like a champ.

    • @BearsWorkshop
      @BearsWorkshop  4 роки тому +3

      Sorry to hear of your incarceration but having a trimmer that is running properly is definitely the upside. Please understand that cells can be shared and you might shortly have company. My Echo GT-225 had been bogging down over last year and this year it would simply cut out (shut off) when applying throttle. This saved me a trip and #'s for repair. Thank you so much. I ended up drilling the plug in the core then was able to pry the outer circle of it out very easily.

    I just did the same thing to my neighbor's Echo string trimmer Saturday. It had barely any power and needed the carb passages cleaned out anyway from sitting for 2 years with ethanol gas. After the clean out It still needed the main jet adjusted richer. I adjusted the needle out until it was too rich and was not running clean, then back in until it ran strong. Happy neighbor. I've done this to my Echo edger, Stihl Chain saw and leaf blower. thanks for the video.

I had seen the brass plug and didn't know what it was, and not seeing an adjusting screw I figured there wasn't one. Removing the plug was tough, but once I could get to the screw, wow, the trimmer works again. Also, it's worth noting the throttle should be re-attached to the carb before it's reinstalled. Ask me how I learned that...

    I do like the video and I am always learning, but, you do not need to remove the carburetor. FIRST, remove all of the fuel including the primer bulb fuel. I heat up a easy out that fits snug into the black plastic insert until its red hot. I then carefully push it into the black plug and let it cool down. Then I pull the easy out straight out and the black plug comes right out. The screw is then right in view for the adjustment. 3 minutes tops if you cool down the easy out with a water squirt bottle. I have done this multiple times with Echo equipment and it works every time.

    That adjustment screw is for high speed only. There is another similarly plugged adjusting screw (on many models) down inside the center of the plastic plate that rotates when squeezing the trigger and it allows adjustment of the low speed mixture. As this video is 4 years old, I suspect no one will read this.

I put new fuel lines and filter and I made sure the lines were on correctly. It seems like the fuel mixture is off but I don’t know for sure because I can’t get it to run long enough to tell. I'll probably be doing this, I watched a few videos, yours had the best step by step instructions. I have an Echo GT-225 and the stupid thing has never run right. This year she won't stay running, being over 8 years old I ordered a replacement carb with other components to get her back up and running. Knowing the way they adjust the carbs from default it is a guarantee you'll need to adjust it.

    Chinese aftermarket, Zama type, I have two identical for echo trimmer, neither carb will tune in and run as the original. So I have been trying to figure out why. Opened all for a look at each of the metering system. Found that both aftermarket had a different needle fulcrum arm setting compared to the factory OEM. OEM was set level to the height of the metering gasket, both aftermarket were above the gasket at different setting each. The aftermarket both ran extremely rich even after turning the main jet needle all the way closed. Then attempted to close the low speed idle needle to see if that would reduce the fuel as the two jets are the fuel entry points. I was able to make it idle by turning the set screw for opening the barrel more and closing the needle to some point of equilibrium. Then fine tuned the high speed main jet at wide open to get its best run out. End result was still not optimum. The high end would momentarily switch between a smooth high rpm then drop back to a to rich stumble lower rpm. These switches lasting only around a second each.
    The second aftermarket I attempted setting the meter arm at a position slightly lower than body level hoping that this would reduce the amount of fuel. Well it did just that but then could not get enough fuel for idle and no matter the idle speed set it would die. So I set it back to level with the body and it functioned as the first one after setting the needles. My conclusion is the fuel passages, needle closure points are just to large, on the main, compared to a high quality factory Zama.

    Do you adjust the same screw if your idle is cutting out? I replaced the carb last year and it works, but the top end is to low. Now I replaced split fuel lines , vent, and fuel filter and I can't get it to stay running at idle for more than a few seconds after priming. I'm thinking it's getting to much air or just using up the fuel in the engine and not pulling more.

    Have had mine apart several times cannot get plug out still trying. Is it easier to pry out or should I find a screw to tap it out. Have had the carb out several times now bulb and new fuel kit from echo not filling bulb when pressing sounds like air seeping as it’s depressed. Could the gasket behind it be causing this if it is on backwards? Good video.

      Put something sharp like an awl into it and then pry it out.

    Good video, you should have told them about the hidden high speed adjustment screw on top in the center of the barrel shaft nut. It's needed to maximize tuning

      Wasn't that the screw he was adjusting? Isn't the high speed screw typically adjusted with the engine under load like he demonstrated or was that just a mistype and you meant the hidden "low" speed adjustment screw that's set while engine idles? Cuz now I'm a bit confused.

      One video indicated finding the sweet spot by going back and forth between both screws a few times, listening/adjusting as you go, as in this video, so both adjustments are optimal, in accord with Pulliam's Law.

    My GT 225 is a couple years old and has always started easily and has run great. This year, it ran rough and was hard to start. Almost like it was not getting fuel (the bulb would not fill). I disassembled the carb, cleaned the clunk and fuel lines and it ran better but often bogged down after a short while. Sounds like I need a carb adjustment, as well. Do you agree? Should I be looking at something else. I'll give your advice a try before I buy a new carb.

      Adjust the carb first. Then also check compression.

    This is probably a long shot but I live in hope! I have problems with my hedge trimmer carb. I cannot find anyway of adjusting the carb. It’s a German motor and the carb is a SK-C26LE/SA. Can you help me? Have you ever heard of it?🤣

    • @BearsWorkshop

      Get the screw back in there. I would try going in all the way till you hit resistance then back it out 1 turn and try and start and then keep going to till it starts.

    I had the bogging down problem with SRM-225. Would start, idle, and die when I pulled the throttle. I saw a few other videos before this, but I think this video was the best description of the process.
    My carb is running rich now and we’re back to slice ‘n’ dicing speeds without boggy death.
    FWIW-I’m not a fan of fast-forward work because I like to see every step, but that’s how I learn. Maybe you could post zoomed regular-speed videos in a playlist for beginners as an accoutrement(you already have the content, why not offer variety for different audiences?).
    I will reply with the results of field trials of my carb adjustment after I go hack down the jungle that has grown while my trimmer has been out of commission.
    Thanks Bear!

    Nice video! What is it when the primer doesnt want to fill with gas? Just replaced primer bulb. Since it doesnt fill with gas, it has a hard time retracting.

    • @BearsWorkshop
      @BearsWorkshop  5 років тому +1

      That is usually a clog in the fuel line. Change the filter first. If you don’t have one just take it off to see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes a dirty carb can also cause that. Good cleaning is where to start.

    • @BearsWorkshop
      @BearsWorkshop  5 років тому

      The fuel line going back to the fuel tank also needs to be clear. If not that I would still think that there is something in the carb.

    • @BearsWorkshop
      @BearsWorkshop  5 років тому +1

      Also if you can take the carb off with no lines attached and hit the bubble. If no lines are attached and you still have the same problem then it is the carb. If the problem goes away then it is the lines.

    I think this is what I'm looking for, but can not find my exact issue anywhere on the net. My Echo GT-225 is a few years old. Recently I noticed that the head runs REALLY fast in relation to how much throttle I give it. The best way I can describe it, is it's running too fast and when I release the throttle the head keeps spinning (on idle?) for anywhere from a couple to 5+ seconds. It seems like it's using way too much fuel as well, so I think a carb adjustment is in my future. I will try this and also adjust the screw counter clockwise to see if that helps. While it's gotten a little warmer here, I don't have any altitude issues. Do these things just need to be adjusted over the years?

    • @BearsWorkshop
      @BearsWorkshop  4 роки тому

      Yes the do need adjusted over the years. The head is supposed to spin very fast and will take a few seconds when you go back to idle. You might want to adjust the idle screw or but depending on what you have.

      More than likely but me personally, I would rather void my warranty then try and make a claim and send in the unit for a month to get it adjusted.
