    I came across this video by accident and my honest opinion is... You are the Bob Ross of carburetor rebuild.

    One of the most complete instruction videos i have ever watched. I took my SRM 225 Echo Weedwacker carburetor apart and forgot how to put it back together. Not to mention how to clean it. This gentleman saved me from buying a new srm 225 @ $219.00 plus tax. His instructions were clear and the video perfect. My weedwacker started on the first pull after following his instructions. Awesome is all I can say and thanks so much!

    You are the man. I lost the "little roller" when I blew out the carb with compressed air. Somehow I saw the little roller fly away and was able to pick it up. I had no idea where it was supposed to go. After looking at several schematics I still couldnt figure out where that damn thing went. I but the carb back together without the "little roller" and of course it wouldnt idle correctly. After watching several videos I was about to order another carb. Then I found your video at 8:54 is all needed. I put the little roller back and bam its working great. Thank you

    Mr. Glen - Just want to say thank you for the great video. You provided the confidence to try this on my own. My Echo 225 was getting a little harder and harder to start every Spring, and this year, it was done. My plan was to just bite the bullet and purchase a new unit, but poked around UA-cam first for possible fixes and I ran across your Carb-cleaning/rebuild video. It inspired me! Now, I wasn't brave enough to take it apart, but buying a replacement carb wasn't prohibitively expensive, so I got a new one, and replacement fuel lines, etc. Everything proceeded smoothly with the exception of the grommet that holds the fuels lines to the tank - that grommet seemed just a little too big, but after awhile, I managed to wrestle it into place. After putting everything back together, it started right up - Yeay!! However, I'm not convinced I succeeded - after using it for about10-15 minutes, it started smoking from the exhaust, which it's never done before. Since my knowledge of small engines is limited to your video, I'm not sure what to do. I suppose I could keep using it, but I'm afraid that I'm damaging something permanently. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

      Too much smoke is either too much oil in the gas ( fuel mix problem) or too much fuel getting to the cylinder (carburetor metering problem, soaked or clogged air filter, choke engaged either partially or fully). In any case, you’re not doing damage. Remove the air filter, then make sure the choke can be fully opened and closed with the lever. Go through the start up process and see if the problem has cleared. If the problem did not clear and if you didn’t buy an OEM carburetor, you should replace it with an OEM and try again. Other than that, it’s going to be a trip to the shop. Good luck.

    Be very mindful of that tiny roller on the pin that rides on an inclined plane on the rotating throttle core and causes it to raise as the throttle is opened , its very easy to lose if you are not aware it's there after you pull out the throttle barrel asembly as it can pop of its pin when wen tilted or when you blow out the carburetor with compressed air , good luck finding it , the rotating throttle core has an inclined plane that rides on this tiny roller and raises against the internal return spring "raising the metering mixture needle that is in the very center of the rotating throttle barrel. if that roller is not in place it will throw the fuel mixture way off making it very unlikely the machine will run and the throttle arm will also catch on one of the screws making the throttle bind.

      Sometimes I have to back back through a carb again. Not often but it happens to all of us. Boggs sounds like not enough fuel. If you replaced the fuel lines, fuel filter and primer? I would probably go back through the carb and double check everything. Maybe soak the carb overnight in seafoam. Make sure the carb primer circulates the fuel good. Also check your spark arrestor on the muffler. I would just start double checking everything. If all else fails you may need a new carb. Good luck and Thank you.

    Excellent instructional video!!! Do you happen to know if they make a spiral metering diaphragms for echo products, like walbro does for their carburetors? It seems that would eliminate hardening of conventional metering diaphragms over time?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  2 роки тому +2

      Echo like many other OEMs buy carburetors from ZAMA, Walbro and others. Echo does use Walbro on some products.
      And the spiral metering diaphragm is offered on some of those carbs. Unfortunately carb failure and problems are not limited to just the metering diaphragm. And while I agree this is an improvement to that specific part in the carburetor. I have seen no improvements in service life of the carb. Because you can engineer a diaphragm to last longer but you cannot fix the human factor. Most carb and fuel related repairs are from what the customer pours in the fuel tank or what he leaves in the fuel tank for months. The carb also has the fuel pump diaphragm, primmer bulb and primer check valves that has not been improved.
      Thank you for your comment

    they sell a whole carb kit with fuels lines and plug. It would be cheaper and faster to just do that, its like 12 bucks on amazon.

      Those cheap china knock-off carbs are unreliable. I have had bad luck with them. Your factory OEM carb is much better. Your better off just fixing your original carb.

    Great video. My GT225 won't start even when I primed the motor. I did confirm that I am getting spark. Could it still be the carburetor? The fact that it doesn't start when primed makes me doubt. Any thoughts. Should I still go ahead and replace the carburetor anyway.

      This carb repair kit is 14.00 dollars. The oem carb from echo is 50.00. China knock-off carbs are cheaper but unreliable. I've always had better luck with the original carb. In most cases its just rotten diaphragms.

    On my PE-225 the cold start switch won’t move up into the cold start. Any ideas?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  3 роки тому +1

      Usually what happens is the wing bolt is over tightened and crushes the air filter. The the wing bolt then over extends to the point that it interferes with choke/cold start. The choke will hit the bolt and will not close. Loosen the bolt and check choke to confirm. Replace air filter and snug down, do not over torque.

    Why will cleaning that with Berryman B12 Chemtool ruin that carburetor?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  3 роки тому

      Check valve located in high speed nozzle is non metallic. Usually plastic or rubber materiel. When that is damaged by strong solvent you just ruined the carb. Seen it many times.
      Thank you

      @@IFIXIT4U - Thanks for the reply. Well that sounds like a good explanation. I'm not mechanic, as you can tell. B12 is carburetor cleaner...I guess that's just for automobile carburetors?
      Naphtha is no slouch on harshness. I used it to clean AK parts that had years of carbon buildup, that I couldn't get off any other way.

      Always install a new repair kit when you clean the carb. Make sure lines are hooked up correctly. The white primer block may be bad if it still wont prime.
