@@lukesgoldies Have you ever looked up about Repashy Gel food, Hikari, Azayaka and Aquamaster fish pellets? These foods are said to greatly enhance color, growth and form all while keeping the fish immune to most diseases
Due to your recommendations on insta I bought the mizuho feed. I feed mizuho pellets at night, and I alternate between frozen blood worms and brine shrimp in the morning. Mid day is either mizuho pellets or repashy super gold. My goldfish was bought mid November at 1.5-2 inches and is now about 4-5 inches mid January 😱 I do 50% water changes twice a week. I always provide duckweed at the top that they graze on and I supplement peas twice a week
I learned a very hard lesson recently..... My goldfish became uniquely wedged in a decor castle, one that he would typically be able to enter and leave without problem. He stumbled himself trapped in a complex wedge. It would have happened after his morning feeding, and I was busy throughout the day, so it wasn't until evening time I discovered him giving up. I physically had to free him, in which I could determine he was extremely stuck. Im sure it hurt him while freeing him, but he had done most of his damage while likely squirming around until he had no more energy. It was so sad... tank medication and all, he only lasted a day after that. He was a big guy... he had stripped a lot of his scales off, tearing himself very deep, most fins were destroyed.... a very hard lesson to learn.
This could happen also with a big bushy bunch of plants too, as goldfish love to dig right into a big pile of plants and search for whatever morsel of leftover food. Sometimes they are stuck in the plant as it's really thick and they are so fat and round. They really do need you to keep an eye on them. They are essentially helpless fattie wigglers in water. I have a bunch of ping pong pearslaces (my favorite GF breed) and they are always wiggling into mischief.
As they said a hard lesson learned.. but up to that unfortunate turn I am sure you gave that guy the best life ever. I just rescued 2 goldies and I think whatever we can do for them now will be way better than the life they would of had.
This stuff is awesome!! I love any and all (healthy) goldfish content, and as they're the reason I'm getting into fish keeping, I am always searching for more tips and tricks on how make sure my little fellas have the best life I can give them. They bring me so much joy in just watching them exist, and I learn something new about them and fish in general every day, I really want to give them everything I can, so I super appreciate you making videos like this!! I just got some fancy goldfish and they didn't eat much when I gave them the pellets. Today I gave them some banana and they LOVED it. I plan to feed my goldies a variety of foods because pellets are meh. Tomorrow I'm going to introduce them to my favorite veggie, broccoli, and I can't wait :)
My toddler loves fish right now so we have gotten him a tank that fits 2 fish. Your videos are so informative on how to not just have goldfish as a first pet for kids, but how to really care for them like you would for other pets
I feed my ranchu and oranda with different pellets. Hikari is my favorite.m brand. Color enhancement with probiotics and Head growing with high protein and alternating them. Also prepare some lower protein pellets too in case in cold weather and you don’t have heater on, feed them with low protein. Also have bloodworm, duckweed, peas and lettuce. Also life spectrum has garlic fish food get it too. I also get hex shield pellets from life spectrum in case they have intestine parasites. For gel food, get dandy oranda super gold. That thing is great. Yes you are absolutely right, feed your fish with varieties of food! Oh man, I am broke with all these food I get for my babes
This is great, thank you. You seem like a great person and brighten my day. Ik it’s irrelevant but my girl just broke up w me and these vids brighten my day cuz i got a big gold fish named “bubbles” also is canned peas okay? Or just frozen? Again thanks man. Have a great day!!
Great video man! Learned a lot! My tank is finally free from ich. Ich-x saved the day while imagitarium was a total waste of money. Will slowly add goldfish back to the tank!
The guy at the aquarium said feed 2 pellets every other day, the pellets are so small. My fanvies are only 1.5 inches currently. Long poops though. I feel i need to feed them more. Ive got some other insect pellets and frozen bloodworms too. Should i do 2 pellets each for day 1 day 2 - One of the insect pellets day 3 bloodworm?? Thanks
Holy shit, I can't believe some people would feed their own goldfish with whey protein powder and egg. Sound like a bodybuilding is also happened into goldfish lol.
Eventually I want to keep at least three of these fish and I’ve rounded all the costs. I have done research on your channel on multiple websites. Do you think it would be a wise choice for me to eventually try to own one of this kind of fish?
Can you use a sponge filter in any tank? I have a 55 gallon Marineland that uses carbon based filters. Thank you for posting this - I have two ten year old goldfish and one just got swim bladder for the first time. I will switch their diet to what you suggest
Hey hey! this was great and very informative, thanks! Do you have any recs about how MUCH to feed juvenile goldies? i have two little guys, probably only an inch each and never know how much to give them
Hi Luke, I have a 12 gallon hexagonal tank, with 1 baby black moor. I am working up to getting him or her a 55 gallon tank as soon as the 12 gallon has properly cycled. I am 8 weeks into cycle now, the ammonia has disappeared now and I am now getting higher levels of nitrite. I have been doing 25% water changes twice a week and feeding every other day, sinking pellets about 6 or so and half a pea boiled and cut into tiny pieces, it takes him about 20 minutes to consume half a pea 😄 He is only about 2 - 3 inches long including tail. He is always active and has a good appetite and spends hours searching round for food. I don't want to overfeed him whilst the tank is still cycling. I am using 1 mL of prime every other day to bind the nitrite levels, and Stability 2.5 mL when doing my water changes. Am I doing everything right?
I feed my two goldfish, flakes, pellets, frozen peas and gelled meat such as: gel blood worms, krill, shrimp all in a gel form. No frozen apart from the peas. So I hope that’s a good diet for two fancy goldfish.
Hi Luke, just a quick question or to anyone who can help? I have a 350 litre (or 75 gallon tank) with 3 young goldfish which are always ravenous! Especially Blackey the black moor! He scoffs down 20 sinking sticks in one go in one sitting and wants more all the time, he is less than a year old. He even got a piece of gravel stuck the other day. I had to feed him a couple of peas to check he had spat it out and he was able to poo! I saw a vet on UA-cam who went to a fish with 'hole in the head' disease. The vet explained it was because the fish wasn't getting enough nutrition, so upped its diet. He said to feed 0.5 to 1% of the fish's body weight. We feed the small sinking sticks. We have a piece of tubing from a gravel vac attached with suckers to the glass as a feeding tube with a rounded glass dish at the bottom to catch the food so it doesn't get churned all over the tank polluting the water. Blackey is always there 1st he finds floating food hard to navigate. The other 2 like to be fed via a teaspoon dropping the food from the top. I have to feed them separately to Blackey or he eats it all. I feeding him 20 small sticks a day because he is bigger than the other two. And the other two 10 sticks each. They have a couple of small pinches of bug bites as a starter while I soak their sticks. Am I feeding them too much or not enough. I do partial water changes every week.
What protein-rich food would you recommend for those in the UK? I can’t find the mizuho food anywhere. I can easily get the Saki Hikari Fancy Goldfish food, though. Would that be okay with bloodworms, peas, and other foods as supplements?

Then let cool...then peel and deshell peas and feed peas to fish. Really fast and the peas are soft and ready to eat by fish.
Don't use flakes...makes a gigantic mess unless you want to shut off the HOB filters when feeding flakes and you also have other fish eating the small flake particle. For frozen bloodworm, place frozen slab pieces in a fish net, run under warm tap water, wash out the blood and it's a good way to flush whatever yuckiness out of the worms....then feed using a chopstick to get a portion into the tank, or use a tweezer, or your fingers......kinda gross though.
