Great idea gil with the suction cups🙂I feed mine zucchini the same way, I never blanch/ boil it. Fresh is best! Great video mate🙂👍🏻green beans are a favorite in my tanks! They go crazy for them
Dear Gil: Oh my, I did it all wrong. First I pealed the two, zucchini squash I purchased, at Walmart, yesterday. Then I sliced them into chunks and cooked them, until quite soft, with my beans. Lastly, I put them in a bowl, to cool, before chopping (i.e. mashing) them up, and adding them to some, frozen, blanched broccoli I keep, in my freezer, for fish food. Next time, I’ll maintain the skin and see if my ancistrus will enjoy raw zucchini. Thank you for sharing this, interesting and informative video on vegetables, for aquarium fishes. I appreciate you getting such knowledge out, to other aquarists. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
Like I said in the video E.J, not all Bristlenose will eat the skin, although my two big guys prefer to eat that part first. I will be interested to see if yours is the same.
What a fantastic idea!! I am definitely going to pull out some old heater suction cups for zucchini and cucumber from now on! Thanks heaps mate! Another example of Aussie ingenuity at its best! 🇦🇺
Thanks mate. For my smaller tanks I went to the op shop and scored a bunch of cutlery forks for 10c each. Bent the end of the handles over so they hang on the edge of the tank.
@@Gilsfishroom that’s a great idea bending the handles over! I have 13 20ltr shrimp tanks that you have now saved me from having to pick the forks up from the bottom of the tank! Some how the shrimp always seem to knock over the fork 😂
This is a great video!! Thanks so much! I immediately followed your instructions and fed my tetras the green peas. To my amazement they immediately started snatching them up and taking them away to gobble! Unbelievable! No one is teaching this. Again, thanks!
Everyone needs a good 💩 I love fresh zucchini.. I only share the ends lol.. Smart move using the suction cups . . Nothing like a little bit of benni hill and some yakiti sax to make ya smile .. If I could only get the kids and grandkids to eat green beans.. Great video.. hi Terri
Wonderful video. So well edited and narrated - love the footage of that black and red monster with the broccoli in his mouth. I think I could grow those canned beans even here in Canada’s short summer and what with my brown thumb lol. Thanks for so many veggie options and greetings from 🇨🇦
Thanks for the excellent ideas for feeding veggies to fish. Your fish are absolutely stunning. My zucchini slices don't seem to sink even after boiling them for quite a while. Another you tuber suggested freezing them after boiling but that didn't seem to work for me either.
If the slice hasn't sunk in 5 or so minutes, I zap the mug in the microwave for a minute to keep the water hot. That is usually enough to make it sink. The thinner the slice, the quicker it will sink.
Just after I had fed my fish with fresh veggies, I see this. For people who don't mind and/or even prefer tea water, botanicals may also serve for that fiber. I know BN plecos can get huge. Mine is only 3.5inches after 2yrs + but I've seen larger ones than that of yours in real life.
@GV Aquariums Australia the body was around 9-10 inches. I'm not counting the longfin of it. Another thing I found weird with it was that it is a female. After reading and hearing a lot that the males grow larger. I kept checking if it was a common pleco, but it really is a BN.
I have been feeding my Plecos zucchini, but find I have to change my water a lot more frequently now. I use a stainless steel peg and push it into the substrate. Lol...usually, 4 slices are demolished overnight 😅. My tank has Guppies, shrimp and Plecos I rescued from my daughter in laws tank. Im getting another tank from my grandson to try ( lol) and separate the females. Ive tried pumkin and rockmelon, but Zucs are their favourite. Just clean and change the filter more often? Fellow Aussie here ( and new subbie)
My pleco loves cucumber. They also eat brocolli stalks - if you cut em in half and boil them for a minute. Let them cool off. Used to throw them all out, now they get used.
Earlier today I was looking at another UA-cam video dealing with the same topic -- feeding vegetables to fish. Interesting the way you feed yours zucchini so I have a question: Most of my fish are guppies so can I stick a chunk of zucchini on the glass like you did for my guppies or would I have to cut it up --maybe grind it -- because the guppies' mouth is not as big as your fish's mouth? Awaiting and would appreciate an answer; thanks. Blessings to you and all those you love.
I have been told that corn is difficult for fish to digest. If you are feeding small fish, you will need to blanch greens to soften them up. I'm glad the video helped!
Great video! How often do you put zucchini in your tanks? I just put a good size in my 45 gallon tank before going out of town for the weekend, and I was shocked that it was completely gone upon getting home. I have 2 plecos and 4 shrimp and 7 tetras. I prefer feeding them veggies over the algae wafers. How often do you put zucchini in your tank?
I don't have a set routine, I just feed it whenever I think to pick some up. I tend to feed the beans more often, as it's easy to keep a few tins in the cupboard. I reckon that you can feed zucchini as often as you like provided it is eaten in under a couple of days.
@@Gilsfishroom I just made a little video for you. This cucumber is the mini variety.I just cut it in half length ways. Its only been in the the tank 5min and it's nearly gone. ua-cam.com/video/vpCyFl-AFuw/v-deo.html
G'day Dylan. I have never fed corn, as it is not something they would naturally encounter. I know someone who feeds it to goldfish after removing the outer layer like I did with the peas. Sorry I can't help you more with this mate.
Here' link to the other video I watched about feeding guppies vegetables; I'm sending the link because the author said broccoli not good for fish health and you did mention that you feed your fish broccoli. Go for it mate! You seem to have plenty of ground at your place to grow a few zucchinis or some beans.

Yeah, the zucchini can make a bit of a mess. Try broccoli, it doesn't seem to break up as small and float around.

Sure is. Depending on your situation, you may want to remove the seeds first, but I don't bother.
Do they eat avocado
Avocado is poisonous to dogs, cats, birds and fish. So no, they don't.
