I feel better about feeding them once a day , between 8-10pm because I'm always home during that time and their lights have been on for a few hours at that point. I fast them once a week. I decided that having them on a routine that I knew I could stick to was best. I over feed a little cuz I have shrimp/snails/bottom feeders in the tanks and want to make sure they get some too. Good video!
When I fed my fishes 3X a day, the water became cloudy due to uneaten food. The nitrate level became so high that some fishes died. I now feed my fishes once a day up to 30 seconds of eating with fasting twice a week. The water is so clean and clear and the nitrates became low. No fish died since then.
When I was young and in my prime I would eat all the time. Now that I'm old and gray I might only eat once a day. When I was a bodybuilder I would eat 5 to 7 thousand calories a day. So I watch what my fish eat and take into consideration their age and activity level. Also as you said the food should be of quality. I do cut down on the protein like bloodworms as they get older.
This is easier with pellets but you can do it with flakes. Feed the fish one piece of food and wait until they eat it before adding another piece. Continue until they lose interest. When the pieces start sinking to the bottom stop adding food. If I have a bottom feeder like corys add a little extra. This will give you a good idea of how much to feed. Most people feed way too much.
Thanks Irene. Great video. I just bought one of those floating feeder cones to try. To feed smaller amounts and make it easier to clean up any extra. Setting up a new 5.5 gal and will try it then.
For angelfish I feed them 3 times a day as the food says(the granules are pretty small that's why I feed them so frequently) For smaller fish I feed them 2 times a day
I feed twice a day. Tetras & Rasporas in one tank. Tiger Barbs in another. If they dont go at it aggressively in the am feeding then I skip the pm feeding.
How much they can eat in 2-5 minutes - is an instruction I never understood. A new hobbyist who has never seen an expert feeding the fish will definitely overpollute the tank based on that instruction.
When feeding, I watch to see how much the fish eat to judge the amount to put into the tank. Then what little remains, the clean up crew on the bottom gets.
Same, I keep balloon mollies, glass cat fish and Khuli loaches -- the balloons are pretty efficient at getting food and scavenging leftovers, so I try to make sure the khulis get some of the food during feeding time (the glass catfish are easy because I can SEE they have food in their belly lol)
i'm struggling to figure this out atm. i got some otocinclus two weeks ago, and they demolished the algae i'd grown for them in just two days - so i started feeding them algae tablets, cucumber and squash, which they seem to love! however, now there's a lot of algae again, and i guess they're eating their fill on the things i feed them? however, i'm really scared of underfeeding them since i've read that their gut bacteria will die without food, and i'm constantly paranoid that they'll die (doesn't help that they hide under the filter where i can't see them, so it's difficult to check if they're all alive and well). should i fast them until the algae's gone?
Thank you so much for the information! This was so helpful! :) love watching your content. What are the little black nano fish @2:49?? They look so neat!
I feed mine 2 times a day, in the morning, n before bed, because I do have a pleco. N i slowly feed as much as they can eat for 5 minutes. Meaning, I will put in 3 pellets, n will not add more till they are gone. I also gotta wash the algae wafers because the oscar WILL eat them, belive it or not. I currently have no ammonia n nitrate, or nitrite, but I do have to clean the gravel n do water changes like 2 times a week (I have 16 fish, most of which get to 10 inches or over).
Great video Irene, thanks so much for all YOUR hard work! 🤗❤️ Not a member/subscriber to aquarium co-op anymore, only here to support Irene. She’s an amazing remote content creator. Aquarium Co-op is very lucky to have you Irene.
I've had a betta for abt 1.5 years now and have also added a 30 gal community tank to my collection. This tank has cherry barbs, neon tetras and shrimp. This tank has been up for abt 3 months. I've been researching and reading and watching youtube channels to gather more knowledge. Now I'm starting to worry abt getting Planaria in my tank, ESP my community tank as it has shrimp and I LOVE my shrimp! (Want to get a shrimp tank, kind of love!) Do you have a video that educates us on the worms and how to treat, if/when I end up with these pests? Sorry to stick this here but since the worms are said to be a result of overfeeding I figured this question kinda fit here. I've been seeing
Hey I’m looking for a response from anyone who know the answer. So basically a friend of mine has some black neon tetras and one of them is getting really skinny and sickly while the others are super fat. She tried to remove it and feed it separately but they are really fast and it’s hard to get the fish alone. How can she get it to eat more? Does she really have to remove it everyday in order to feed it sufficiently
Maybe the friend should quarantine the sick fish in a separate tank for a few weeks then she can really tell what the problem is. That can also help prevent spreading whatever illness to the other fish.
Now, I have a suspicion that one of my family members are feeding them secretly. One of my mollies is not interested with food anymore. He's always at the bottom.
I have 50 red nose rummies. 2 gourami dwarf honey and 10 sterbai cory. I'm struggling to get ANYTHING past the rummies. Ever after lights out. But they all seem happy and healthy. And growing. Can't be too wrong. I thinkni over feed to get food down to bottom. Then sneaky throw to other side for gourami. Down to an art now
You could try to pick up the food for the corys with a pipette and reach into the tank to drop the food directly in front of the corys a few times a week. Maybe this will keep the tetras at a distance and as a bonus, the corys get very tame and easy to catch.
@Kina they absolutely Doo yeah. Even the large sinking pellets. They picke em up and play chase with them. One drops one another gets it. But that's helping spread the food around as bits fall off I'm sure. Corys are getting big. And healthy. So I'm not too worried. Just so fast!!
Good afternoon, hope all is well. I'm sorry to have to do this here (I'd rather send a private message) but I really don't know how to contact you and I just wanted to make sure someone involved with the business knows that there are at least 2 moderators on the CARE forum railroading new members (or at least just me, don't actually know if they've done this to anyone else) who aren't showing complete deference to them. The moderation is really out of hand. In my 2nd ever post (on my topic/thread) I said something that could have been taken as rude (but apparently wasn't) and the person I was addressing (a longtime forum member) actually apologized to me for how they responded and yet a moderator felt it was necessary to step in on their behalf and warn/threaten me (but not them). When I called that moderator out another, nicer, moderate started to try to mediate (although that first one doubled down and didn't apologize for needlessly side railing my thread) and then next thing you know a 3rd moderator steps in and shuts everything down..... I just wanted to share an experience and get feedback yet these moderators interjected for no good reason and ruined any chance of productive conversation and have penalized me even though the only thing I did wrong was maybe say something slightly rude and then call them out for unfairly going after the new person (probably because they thought it would be easy to do).
i have 1gold fish and 3 guppy fish in my aquarium. the problem is-when i feed them the guppyfishes eats most of the food cause they're faster than goldfish , thus my goldfish remains starving.
Feed so much they eat up everything (100%) within under 5 minuttes. if there is leftovers floating around afer its overfeeding, i have about 50 fish, diffrent size and types.. they clean up a good chunch of food really fast:) i have to make sure there drop enough food to all types of fishes.. many bottom fished also need little extra food on top of the algea they eat.
Their stomachs about the size of their eyes. Good example. I overfed when I first got into the hobby. They're adorably convincing. At times I'll purposely overfeed to get some behaviors to show that they otherwise wouldn't. The depth of their cognitive abilities, co-operative hunting, manipulation of their environment, etc... incredible! Not something I expected with "Just a fish". To compensate I remove any remaining food followed by a water change. Well worth it.
My betta foerschi (male) got super wigged out when I got him a female tank mate of like kind. She is aggressive and is also a little piggy. He is getting a little better but he is looking skinny so I hope he comes out of this phase. Also I have a female betta in a tank with white clouds and neons and she is getting very plump, too plump for her own good. The other fish feed pretty good but having them together with the betta (as she wants as much food as she can get) isn't the best.
I have a GIANT GOLD FISH but not that big I have a tiger fish I think the shiny orange fish I hate is a lion fish I sent remember the names but I named them stripys, tangerine ,godly is a female yep she is a female and chris.
Not true at all. My fish know exactly when its time to eat and when they're gonna get fed. When that light turns on in the morning they know what time it is lol

try once every other day. it is healthier
Bro I got one guppy from my brother how much should I feed him?
When I was young and in my prime I would eat all the time. Now that I'm old and gray I might only eat once a day. When I was a bodybuilder I would eat 5 to 7 thousand calories a day. So I watch what my fish eat and take into consideration their age and activity level. Also as you said the food should be of quality. I do cut down on the protein like bloodworms as they get older.
By eating once a day, you are radically slowing down your metabolism and depriving yourself of nutrients! Not good for hoooomans
I like what you said, that is so true ❤
You are very easy to listen to and you speak sensibly about your topic. The same as Cory and the main reason I sub to his channels.

My goldfish won't eat then for some reason, I've tried
How does this work if u have lots of fish in a tank
THIS is easier! Thanks! Do I do the same with the pellets?
I feed my fish once every two days heavily. I've noticed I avoid alot of issues including death from overeating.
great information!

not good at all. once every other day.. thats it.
Hands down Irene is my fav YT fish vid producer. Being new to the hobby ive learned so much from her. Ok ill say it...doesnt hurt that shes so pretty
One thing I don't get is that I often feed only 3x a week and still get loads of pests like snails, limpets, hydra, etc.
Great advice. You cover a lot of area in a concise way.
Wait wait wait, there is another aquarium coop channel and i didn't know about it😳 instant sub

So true
Could adding ostracod, copepod, and amphipod cultures provide a more self sustaining and natural alternative to manual feeding?
I have 3 molly fish and idk how to get them eat equally. The food sometimes sinks before they can eat it and one gets more than the other
I think you have really covered all the bases.
Snails will eat leftover food.. I have constantly multiplying ramhorns and so far they keep tank algae and leftover free
Irene has so much charisma 😍
This was the best fish 🐠🐟 video ever ❤

i feed every other day , my fish eat snail eggs and tiny creatures in the tank anyway
Very well said

What is the name of the product that you stuck to the inside of the aquarium glass ?

Xtreme all the way! Thanks for the advice!
I’m having trouble getting new fish to even notice me dropping food in, how do I get them to come to the top of the tank?
what do you feed them instead of fish food
Telescope eye goldfish: My goals are beyond your understanding
Thank you for sharing this video 👍😀
I have 30 fish. I usually do it 6:30AM and then at 9:00PM. I feel like my timing isn't adequate enough.
Hi how to take care of fish when we out for somedays
Always enjoy your videos.

Alternate days feed is fine?
You are a good teacher love your video thank you cute little 👍😁

Question if anyone can help! Do I leave the light on all the time for the Angelfish fry???
So useful, thank you so much!
Hello new subscriber here from Philippines I'm a Swordtail hobbyists too
This was great, thanks for this!
If you crush cayanne pepper into their food mix I find it adds a little extra spice that they seem to get crazy over
only if they are mexicans lol

any good dither fish for a femle jack dempsey. mine is relatively chill and leaves 2-3 inch fish alone. would buenos aires tetras and platies work
Haha, Irene this was great, you're so cute! Thanks for the info!

I've been seeing
Regarding worms: if my fish came from a place where they were treated, can the worms come back? Or once treated they are gone?
Problem is eggs!! You kill the worms but you must follow up with a second dose and maybe a third with a little rest in-between. I hate c r w!!!
Thank you :)
Thank you so much🙏

4:52 beautiful fish .... ❤... What puffer is that?
How much food should I give my two goldfish while doing a fish in cycle?
I feed my fish about one to three times a week only. Basically I skip days.
Now, I have a suspicion that one of my family members are feeding them secretly. One of my mollies is not interested with food anymore. He's always at the bottom.
My fahaka puffer laughs at the notion of his stomach being the size of his eye. That’s one bite for him.
I'm watching my friend fish this week how often do I feed them I'm new at this people's he on vacation this week
I have 50 red nose rummies. 2 gourami dwarf honey and 10 sterbai cory.
I'm struggling to get ANYTHING past the rummies. Ever after lights out.

@Kina problem is all the tetras get it. Fast

@@kiri23234 way to shy for that. They scatter as soon as I come near tank...
They're getting big so can't be missing out. Not too stressed just amazed how fast and greedy the rumbles are. Love them tho

I have one raphael catfish that is 7cm long I feed him onece a day I give him one sinking tablet that is like 5 mm in diamiter I brake it into 4
I Wonder if its to mutch
Fish aren't guaranteed in wild food even daily so one time a day unless you have danios that steal all food so pinch food to 3 corners for all
i have 1gold fish and 3 guppy fish in my aquarium. the problem is-when i feed them the guppyfishes eats most of the food cause they're faster than goldfish , thus my goldfish remains starving.

Wow i feed my fish evety 3 days.
This woman is soo wrong. Feed fish max 3 to 4 times a week. If it's an old tank even less. There are living things in a healthy tank.
wow all this time i fed them 1 time in 3 months and they lived very long
Their stomachs about the size of their eyes. Good example. I overfed when I first got into the hobby. They're adorably convincing.

This a misconseption that fish should be fed everyday. I feed mine twice a week, and some of them lasted ten years. Too much food -
poor health.
Agree I fed all my fish 3 times a week.
personally i feed my fish twice a day

The problem I am having is getting my fish to eat! Small fish big tank. If the food doesn’t float near them, they won’t get it
My fish constantly beg for food and as a new fish keeper i had to learn to not cave into my fishes begging😂 (i have 3 fish, rascal, twink and emo)
A rounded belly on a female could mean she's ready to have fry, not just that she's overfed
