Maxed Out - How I Built my 100 Ton Forging Press

- As requested in the comments of a previous video, here is a closer look at Alice my 100 ton forging press. As a traditional blacksmith, it's also nice to have a machine that can turn a simple bottle jack into controlled forging power.
Max Randolph is a blacksmith artist who specializes in fantasy blacksmithing and sculptural metal art, located in Paso Robles, California.

The engineering for this is just as genius as your creations: strong, magical, simple in function, and incredibly multi-dimensional. Wow! So cool.
Thank you Anastasia! You are too kind 😊
Never fail to amaze, I learn so much just from watching 🖤
I’m so glad, thanks for watching!!
OSHA? Who's that? Never heard of her. Haha. Alice is amazing and terrifying at the same time. I love it!
You’re not having fun unless you’re in a little danger ⚠️
Max your a amazing craftsmanship my friend. Wow. I would love to see more tools in the shop video series. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Forge lit. Keep Making. God Bless.
Thank you so much Jared! I will definitely share more tools around the shop 😁
What a cool setup.
Glad you like it!
I just happened on this video and because I think it is so awesome I had to like and subscribe without even looking at the rest of your channel .
Welcome! Glad to have ya!
Awesome build
I'm glad you like it!
The way your brain works is just mind blowing to me!
Oh gosh, thank you Diana! You are too kind ☺️
You blew my freaking mind 😁 genius and creative. Instant subscribe!
Thank you so much!!
I wish I lived closer to you. I would love to collaborate on a project. I am working on a press now. It's only 5 ton, but it should help me draw out material to make swords much quicker. Thank you for uploading this video. I get so inspired every time I watch anything you post.
That means so much to me! I’m glad you like the content! Good luck with your press my friend!
Wow, incredible problem solving right there!
Thanks Dave! Alice has been a huge help in my shop
Don't say ''There's some things I would change'' right in front of Alice. You'll hurt her feelings.
Haha you are too right Nathan! How could I be so callus!!
@@Max_Randolph_Studios thanks for responding you made my day.
@@nathancase6485 Absolutely Nathan!
Bro , this is soo cool
So glad you like it!
It's amazing what can be done with a bit of Imagination max , And yes I would like to see Moore of your incredible inventions .👍🤠,
You got it Douglas!
ingenious!!!
😁😊
what an absolutely beautiful machine!
if i was to build a press like yours, i would go for a 50-75 ton press using smaller bottle jacks so it will be quicker.
but i do make mainly hand tools, knives and small ornamental things.
so i do prefer tools that work quicker but more gentle, rather than slow but crushing.
in any case i love seeing other people's work and ingenuity, trying my hand at making and customizing it to my needs!
keep up the great work, i love seeing what you do and make!
You’re spot on! If you need less pressure then a pair of 20 tons out around there would be perfect!
@@Max_Randolph_Studios i hope to do that sometime, But i first need to finish the treadle hammer i started building last year 😅
Too cool 😎
Thanks ☺️
VERY cool build! A friend and I joke how sketchy some home builds of devices like this are but you really did make something that SEEMS pretty safe insofar as where the operator has any reason to be when in use and the fact that that's on the OTHER SIDE of anything you could easily catch any given appendage in or otherwise hurt yourself, right on.
I'm equally interested in your file rack on the wall towards the end; I take it they have some kind of slot on the side the file sneaks into? I see the hole HAS to be narrower than the width of many of your larger files so can think of no other way you would be able to hang them up, looks GREAT!
Hey if you’re not in a little danger, you’re not having fun! 😉
That's truly ingenious Max!. Has she ever broken down? Week spots you had to change?
She has never broken down! It’s crazy actually, she’s so solid. I’ve only had to bleed out an air bubble a few times out of the Jack, that’s it.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
😁😁😁
Can you do a short video on your forge door foot pedal setup?
Great idea! Let me work on that!
Big wheel go bbbrrrrrrr!!! 😅
Hahaha
I am curious about the mask on the wall in the backround near your wooden mallet, can we get a closer look please?
Yes! I’ll try to bring that up in a future video so you can get a better look, but I’ve used that a sort of mold for past works.
That is insanely creative.. Did you design it yourself?
Yes, I did!
@@Max_Randolph_Studios Thats amazing! Do you have a history in engineering or something like that?
@@WildHuntKnives Not really, I'm not formally trained.
@@Max_Randolph_Studios Thats wildly impressive. Love your work all together and your infectious enthusiasm
@@WildHuntKnives Thank you so much, that means a lot to me!!
I was more focus on your boot ,what brand it is??
My boots are made by Red Wing! It’s been my chosen boot for many many years!
You ever think of revamping all your metal tools to make them look like dwarven tools?
Oh that would be too cool!
I'm convinced there's absolutely nothing you wouldn't be good at if you tried.
You are too kind Alisha! Trust me, there are lots of things I struggle with.
@Max Randolph Studios Everyone does with some things but you're talented for sure and it shows.
man, this is genius. and much more cheaper.
So glad you enjoyed it! I’m always looking for ways to make my own tools and save a little.
how fast can it go?@@Max_Randolph_Studios
Definitely don't want the dog wagging the tail around that thing while it's running!!
Haha good point! Thankfully they typically stay out of the way when things get serious in the shop
Alice who the f**K is Alice😁Pardon My French
Ha! You are looking at her in this video! This is Alice, my 100 ton forging press 😄
